I do not own the rights to NCIS: LA.

This scene has been in my head since I watched the season 8 finale.

Chapter Four: Sam

Kensi POV:

"Kensi" I look up as Callen whines next to me. I roll my eyes and look up from the paperwork I was finishing and see Deeks was not at his desk and Callen was staring at me.

"What?" I look at the clock 5:15pm which means we still have 45 more minutes of work before its officially the weekend.

"Sam comes back to work on Monday." Callen stands up and sits down on the corner of my desk so I have no choice but to pay attention to him. I raise an eyebrow and continue staring at him. I know he is referring to Deeks and I telling him about our engagement but I still wasn't sure if it was the right time. It had been months since Michelle's death and with Thanksgiving coming up next week, I know he has enough on his plate.

"You need to tell him Kens. Before he comes back and realizes everyone else knows something he doesn't."

"Fine. I will talk it over with Deeks. Speaking of Deeks, where did he go?" I look around the bullpen and it is deserted this time on a Friday. Even Nell and Eric are gone, off to a convention of some sort.

"He went to the gym about an hour ago. Why don't you two get out of here. Make sure you talk to Sam!" I quickly grab my bag and sling it over my shoulder before he changes his mind.

I find Deeks in the gym running on the treadmill. He spots me and hops off grabbing a towel and wiping his face off.

"Whats up?" He asks as he walks over to me. I smile and slug his shoulder.

"Callen said we can leave. Ready?" He nods and holds up one finger as he jogs into the locker room.

How in the world are we going to bring our engagement up to Sam when he has pretty much ignore all forms of communication the last few months except Callen?

Later that night, we were laying in our bed getting ready to go to sleep when I realized we didn't talk about Sam.

"Babe. Are you still awake?" I whisper from my spot on his chest.

"No. Whats up?" He runs a hand down my back and places a kiss on my head.

"We have to tell Sam this weekend." I glance up at him and see a slight frown form on his face.

"Great. I guess I will just plan my funeral now. Forget wedding planning." I roll my eyes and squeeze his side.

"Don't be dramatic. I'm sure it will be fine. If not, well a funeral has to be cheaper than a wedding. Right?"

Next Day:

Deeks and I are in the car driving to Sam's and I can't stop being nervous. Sam and Callen have been like my big brothers since I joined OSP. When Michelle died I think a piece of all of us died, we let one of our own down.

"Hey. Stop. We did everything we could." Deeks squeezes my thigh as if he knows what I'm thinking. I smile back at him as we pull into the lot where Sam has parked his trailer.

"Lets do this."

We walk hand and hand through the sand and where we reach his trailer and it looks quiet.

"Callen said he would be here today." I say before I knock soundly on the door.

"Sam. Open up! Its Kensi and Deeks." Only the sound of waves could be heard crashing in but no sound of Sam.

"I guess we wait until he comes back?" Deeks asks as he sits on the sand with his back against the trailer.

I sigh and sink down next to him. I lay my head on his shoulder and lace our fingers together as I stare out at the ocean.

"Hey, where's your ring?" Deeks says after about ten minutes of silence. I look down at my left hand which is resting in the sand.

"Its on my chain. Didn't think we wanted a repeat of the whole Callen situation." We laugh and Deeks lifts my hand up against his looking at our left hands.

"I can't wait until there is a ring on our fingers. Even if we don't wear them at work, just knowing we have them." Deeks whispers playing with my ring finger. I smile and pull him in for a quick kiss.

"I can't wait to officially be yours. Kensi Deeks. Well when we aren't at work at least. Could you imagine? Hello I am Special Agent Kensi Deeks and my partner LAPD Detective Deeks." We both laugh and I look into his eyes. I can't believe after everything we are finally getting our happily ever after.

"So you finally asked. Hmm." A deep voice rings from above. We both jump and look up to see Sam standing a few feet away staring at us.

"SAM!" I quickly jump up and rush over to give him a hug. He pulls me in easily and gives Deeks a nod.

"Where have you been man?" Deeks says as he pats Sam on his back once I have taken a step back.

"I was out getting food. What are you two doing here fraternizing on my property?" Deeks nervously laughs and looks to me.

Sam shakes his head and opens the door of the trailer and gives us a knowing look. We follow him inside and sit down at the small table located in the entrance.

"So I will repeat myself, what are you two doing here?" He says as I starts to place his groceries away.

"Well.. You have been ignoring our calls and texts. We wanted to talk to you before you came back to work on Monday." I say as I nervously link my hands together on the table.

"I wasn't ignoring them. I got them. I just don't have a lot to say right now. I appreciate you guys reaching out though. It means a lot." Sam says as he rubs his hand across his face.

"Were getting married." Deeks blurts out. All eyes go immediately to Deeks. He did not just blurt that out. I can't believe he just did that. I slowly look over to Sam who looks like he is trying not to laugh.

"I know. I heard the conversation when I walked up. Congrats guys." He pulls out three beers and sits down across from us.

"When and where did you finally pop the question Deeks? Let me guess. On the beach on vacation?" Sam asks with a smile while taking a long pull from his beer.

"Um really funny story actually. Kensi asked me." Sam spits his beer out laughing so hard. I wipe my face which is now covered in beer.

"No freaking way. Not after you had been bugging me for months! You even had a ring!" I turned to Deeks who looked like a fish out of water.

"Yeah… We've been engaged for about 5 months now." I said cautiously. I see Sams eye bulge out. He then looks like he is thinking hard.

"5 months?! Why are you just now telling me?" Sam asks and then stops. Realization seems to hit him like a brick.

"You got engaged around the time Michelle died." He said simply. This is what we were afraid of. I look at Deeks who looks like he would rather puke.

"Yes. I proposed around then. I think it made me realize how easily it could happen to any of us and I didn't want to waste more time waiting on him to propose." Sam nods his head and doesn't say anything. He looks down at his own left hand where his wedding band stills rests.

"Should I assume everyone knows?" I nod and he lets out a long sigh.

"Were you afraid of my reaction? Is that why you waited 5 months?" Neither Deeks or I had anything to say so we said nothing and continued to look at our cans. I hear a chair slide back and a thud before strong arms wrap me in a hug.

"I am so sorry you didn't think you could come tell me your news. Michelle knew you two were it for each other before I think even you did. She would be so happy to hear that you two pulled your heads out of your asses." Sam lets out a quiet laugh with a mix of a sob as he releases me. I can feel the tears falling down my face as I am looking at him.

"Kensi. I am so happy for you. You deserve happiness. You deserve the kind of happiness I had with Michelle, even if that is with Deeks." I laugh and look over at Deeks who has stood up and is in a man hug with Sam.

"Treat her right you hear me? Don't take any day for granted." I see Sam whisper something in Deeks ear and him go paler.

"Hey now! Don't be threatening my fiancé." I say jokingly and both turn to look at me with surprised expressions.

"Only I can do that." We all laugh and Sam grabs his beer can again.

"To your engagement!" Sam says.

"To Michelle." Deeks says.

"To friends who become family." We all clink cans and smile at each other.

Monday Morning:

I pull into my parking spot and look over at Deeks who is furiously typing a message on his phone.

"All good?" I ask as I grab my bag from behind the seat. He grins at me.

"All good. Just telling Bates that we are engaged now that our whole family knows." He says as he climbs out of the car and over to my side. I grin. Our family.

I look down at my watch 9:15am, Hetty said to report at 9:30am today. I grab Deeks's collar and pull him down to me for a long kiss.

"I love you" He mumbles against my lips. I smile and pull him closer to me.

"Awh come on guys. I thought you had a rule about this kind of thing." I release Deeks and look over his shoulder to see Sam and Callen smirking at us. Deeks gives me a cheeky grin.

"Hey! We still have 5 minutes before we are on company time. I can kiss my fiancee if I want!" We laugh and walk into the mission.

"Hey babe!" I turn back and look at Deeks who is looking pale all of a sudden.

"Whats wrong?!"

"We still have to tell our mothers."

And thats all folks! I have plenty more ideas for NCIS LA so stay tuned :)
