Yu-Gi-Oh ! GX : Destiny's Dawn

CHAPTER 7

"I hope you are ready for a crushing defeat, Zane Truesdale, because this is the beginning of the end for you!" Zane's opponent, the strange man that had stalked Zane and Alexis said, "I have watched a lot of your duels and analyzed your playing style…Thereby figuring out the flaws!"

"A fan, eh? If simply asked for my autograph, I'd gladly give it you." Zane said with his usual, frowned expression.

"Very funny! You won't be cracking jokes after this duel. Without further ado, I'll start-" He said, drawing a card from his deck. "For my first move, I summon the powerful Mechanicalchaser, in attack mode." He stated as a winged round machine, with many hands holding weapons and a sword beneath its main body appeared. (ATK/ 1850 | DEF/ 800)

"Then, I'll equip my Mechanicalchaser with this: 7 Completed!" The man informed. "With it, I can boost either its attack or defense points by seven hundred! Since I summoned it in attack mode…then obviously, my choice will be the former! Bringing its attack to Twenty-five hundred and fifty points!" A seven was inscribed in Mechanicalchaser's body and the machine grew in size, signaling its increase in strength. (ATK/ 1850 → 2550 | DEF/ 800)

The man snickered, "Oh, not bad, huh? I already have a monster this powerful just in my first turn. I set a face down card and end my turn. Let's see what you've got, Zane Truesdale."

"You'll be in for a surprise, buddy." Alexis told him. Still confident that Zane will win.

"Alright, I'll admit, that's not too shabby," Zane stated, "My turn! Draw." He said, picking from his deck and looked at his hands. The man stared at Zane and a twisted smile was beginning to form. (If my theory is true, then he will not hesistate to use his iconic combo. No card in his deck is capable of beating my Mechanicalchaser-) He glanced at his powerful monster before shifting his attention to Zane. (-Except his fusion monsters. Go on, the clock is ticking.)

"You think that thing scares me? You're in for a surprise." Zane coolly said. "Since you've been watching so many of my duels, then you know what I'm about to do. I play this- Power Bond!" Zane showed the man his card before playing it. The man couldn't contain his smile- He knew Zane was going to play this, he had started many of his duels with this card and usually those duels were swift.

"I fuse the two Cyber Dragons that are in my hand." Zane stated as indeed two large, metallic dragons appeared and screeched, "And fuse them to summon my trustworthy Cyber-Twin Dragon!" The two Cyber Dragons flew into the air, intertwining with each other until a brilliant light was formed. Once it subsided, it revealed a mighty creature; A Cyber Dragon that possessed two heads instead of one. (ATK/ 2800 | DEF/ 2100)

But Zane was far from done as he waved his hand. "That's not all, due to Power Bond, its attack points are doubled; Bringing Cyber-Twin Dragon's attack to an impressive Fifty-six hundred!" A purple aura surrounded Cyber-Twin Dragon, the monster roaring as it got an impressive boost in power. (ATK/2800 → 5600 | DEF/ 2100)

Zane's lips slightly curled into a smile, "How did you like seeing it live? A whole different feeling than watching it behind a screen, isn't it. It's too bad because this duel is already over, My Cyber-Twin Dragon can attack twice in a row! GO, Double Strident Blast!" Zane commanded as his monster opened the mouth of one of its heads and fired off a deadly energy beam towards Mechanicalchaser.

"Have you forgotten about my face down card, Zane Truesdale?!" The man said as if he reprimanded him. "Trap card activate; Negate Attack!" Zane wasn't too moved by it, however. Cyber Twin Dragon's attack was deflected by an invincible barrier, protecting Mechanicalchaser from doom. "Your battle phase also ends. Oh, and don't forget; Because of Power Bond, your life points are lowered by the original attack of your cyber dragon. That's nearly three thousand points."

"Is that so?" Zane asked. "What?!" The man went, surprised. "My battle phase does end; But my turn doesn't! I'll use this; Cyber-Kirin!" Next to Cyber Twin Dragon, a smaller yet still ferocious creature taking on the shape of a metallic hound appeared. Its stats weren't impressive, but the effect was what Zane needed. (ATK/ 300 | DEF/ 800)

"Then, I tribute Cyber Kirin. In doing so, I'll make any effect damage I'd take this turn zero. So no, I don't think I'll be paying anything." Zane said, with Cyber Kirin vanishing.

"Tsk..lucky." The man scoffed. "I place the remaining cards in my hand face down then end the turn." Zane added as two face down cards emerged.

"You're just delaying the inevitable!" Exclaimed Zane's opponent as it was his turn then drew a card. The smile on his face as he saw the card he drew was put bluntly…evil. "Hah, you know what! I don't like that ugly thing on your field, so I'll get rid of it…Activate System Down!" The man went.

"System down?" Zane echoed; he had known about this card; it was one of the few cards that presented a real danger to his playing style.

The man clenched his hand into a fist. "That's right. By paying a thousand life points, I can banish all Machine-type monsters my opponent's side of the field and their graveyard. So goodbye, Cyber Twin Dragon!" The man was enveloped in a blue aura as he paid a thousand life points. (Strange man: 4000 → 3000 LP)

"Not so fast." Zane said, revealing one of his face down cards. The spell card, De-Fusion. "I target my Cyber Twin Dragon and return it to my extra deck. In exchange- I am allowed to summon my Cyber Dragons from the graveyard to the field!"

Cyber Twin Dragon shone until the silhouette split into two; A duo of Cyber Dragons was formed instead. (ATK/ 2100 | DEF/ 1600)

"No matter; did you forget, Zane Truesdale? System Down's effect still activates." The man said, his smile didn't falter at all. "Your Cyber Twin Dragon might have avoided the worst- But your Cyber Dragons aren't safe." The ground shook as a large tower sprouted from it. Two lightning bolts surged from an antenna that was on top of the tower and struck both Cyber Dragons, reducing them to ashes as they were banished.

"You're left defenseless…" The man stated in an eerie tone, while Zane narrowed his eyes at what was going to come next. "Battle! My Mechanicalchaser attacks you directly!"

With a wave of his arm, the mysterious man's monster attacked Zane, makings his lifepoints drop immensely. (Zane: 4000 → 1450 LP)

But the stranger was not quite finished with his turn. "Ahaha! I'm not done yet! I activate this card: the continuous spell card- Prohibition!"

"Prohibition? That's not good." Alexis stated, starting to worry. But Zane was still quiet and cool; he wasn't fazed at all. "By declaring the name of a card, it can't be used as long as Prohibition is still on the field. Since you used Power Bond- I'll remove all of your ability you use to call your fusion monsters. The card's name is…Polymerization!" He exclaimed as the card Polymerization appeared above the two duelists, trapped inside a steel cage.

"So not only have you used Power Bond, you can't also use Polymerization," The man informed Zane, "You're not winning this. I told you already," He shrugged, while grinning. "I have observed many of your duels, and thus was able to figure out your weaknesses. Fame isn't always a good thing."

Alexis looked at Zane. "Zane…No, I know he'll find his way out of this one." She told herself, ridding herself of any doubts she had.

"I agree." Zane nodded in response to what his opponent said. "Especially in the world of Pro Dueling, people will see your deck. And they will work tooth and nail to figure out your shortcomings." Before he paused. "But I'll tell you this. It takes a good duelist to make it to the pros…but a great duelist to stay in it!"

"What do you mean?" The man asked, frowning.

"I'll show you," Zane replied, drawing a card. "Get this, I drew Pot of Greed. So now I'm going to draw two more cards." The emperor stated as he took two more cards from the top of his deck. "And I know all about System Down. This is why I made sure to make precautions on my side, I'll reveal my face down card; Return from the different dimension!"

"Zane! You're doing great!" Alexis cheered him on, while the man was start to sweat. "I give up half of my life points," Added Zane. "Then, I can summon as many of my removed from play monsters into the field. Come back, Cyber Dragon!" Zane roared, his iconic monsters coming back from the dead into his side of the field. (Zane: 1550 → 775 LP)

The man was shocked to see the two cyber dragons back, but then, he remembered Prohibition's effect. "Hahaha! You nearly scared me out of my wits, there! So what? you brought back your Cyber Dragons. Not only are they weaker than my monster; They won't be staying for long. Remember, Return from the different dimension's effect is that they will still be banished during your end phase. Oh, and did I mention, you can't fuse them?" He said, "All you did was pay half of your life points just to put on a show."

"You couldn't be more wrong. This duel isn't going any further than this turn. I summon The Light – Hex Sealed Fusion." A blob which had light coming out from the holes on its body appeared next to the Cyber Dragons. (ATK/ 1000 | DEF/ 1600)

"What the hell is that?! I've never seen that monster in any of your duels!" The man pointed at it, he truly didn't have knowledge on it.

"See, that's the problem. None of my duels went so long that I've had to use this monster," Zane explained, "You should be proud; You made me use it. In a way, you're better than a lot of people I faced before. But you made a fatal mistake in thinking that my entire deck could be summed up by using just two cards." Zane shook his head after scolding his opponent. "I activate The Light – Hex Sealed Fusion's second effect. When it's on the field, I can sacrifice it, alongside any other fusion materials to special summon a fusion monster. You've seen my Cyber Twin Dragon- But have you seen a creature that's more majestic and powerful?"

The man's heart skipped a beat at hearing that. "Y-You don't mean…"

"Yes, that's right! I summon the all-powerful CYBER END DRAGON!" Shouted Zane as the three monsters disappeared, leaving particles of light behind them, followed by a powerful gust of wind that heralded the descent of a mighty being.

A massive behemoth that had three Cyber Dragons as heads, it roared and made everything else seem puny. (ATK/ 4000 | DEF/ 4000)

"No! This wasn't supposed to happen!" The man complained, staring in awe at the creature who in return looked down at him like some sort of ant. He then looked at Zane and saw the emperor closing his eyes, revealing another card. Limiter Removal, before Zane activated it.

Cyber End Dragon's attack doubled; Coming at a whooping eight thousand attack points. (ATK/ 4000 → 8000 | DEF/ 4000)

"Super Strident Blaze!" Zane yelled with Cyber End Dragon opening its three mouths and fired three different beams, merging into a single one while it soared through the air and destroyed Mechanicalchaser. "WAAAAAAARGHHHH!" The man screamed before the impact sent him flying, and his life points dropped to zero. (Strange Man: 3000 → 0 LP)

"Hmph, and that's that." Zane said as every card vanished and his duel disk deactivated. "You did it, Zane! I was worried you might lose." Alexis admitted, Zane simply nodded before looking at the man. The two then approached him.

"You've lost. So now speak up. Who are you, and what are you here for?" Zane asked him harshly. The man on the ground laid still for a second before he chuckled. "Hehehehe…you truly are something else, Zane Truesdale. A promise is a promise; My name is Owl…" He introduced himself. "Try to remember it because this isn't the last you'll see of me!" He stated as he backflipped from the ground, landed on his feet then ran away into the forests.

"Hey, he's running away! Let's go after him-" Alexis was ready to chase him but was prevented by Zane who held her arm. "It's no use, Alexis, he's fast. We wouldn't be able to catch him." Zane said. "And it's pretty late anyways, it's too dark. You should just go to your room and call it a day."

"But Zane…we can't just let that strange guy roam free. We have to do something about it." Alexis protested. Zane nodded in agreement, but this wasn't the time for it.

"I know. I'll see the chancellor about this, something real fishy is going on." Zane stated as he looked at the direction Owl ran in, he was nowhere to be seen currently. "Things won't be peaceful in this academy soon."
