The Right Thing to Do.
It had been a week since the war.
Kamino Ward's incident months ago looked like a small scuffle in comparison to the devastation that had been wrought upon Jaku City. The half of the entire city was all but wiped off the face of Japan, hundreds of thousands of citizens were now homeless, and dozens of Heroes had lost their lives in one fell swoop by the newly dubbed Symbol of Fear, Shigaraki, whom had managed to escape with the remains of the Paranormal Liberation Army. Only a handful of people knew the truth however, Shigaraki had All for One, which made him infinitely more dangerous then anyone on the planet right now.
In a hospital room in Mufasu ward, these thoughts encircled Izuku Midoriya's mind as he laid in his hospital bed. He was one of the few hundreds of heroes who had been wounded during the war, however his were more decisive then most of the other heroes. He had fought Shigaraki with EVERYTHING he had, breaking his arms once more but without hesitation because it was to one goal, stop Shigaraki, end All for One. And he failed.
Thankfully due to his training, his arms were nowhere near as badly hurt after his classes' summer training experience. And even more, Eri had been more then willing to use her Rewind on his arms to heal them. She's going to be great. Izuku thought with a small smile that vanished as he thought of the rest of the aftermath. He had known from Todoroki about his father's past, a subject that he never sat right with him, he had seen that Endeavor was trying to be a better person, but it still didn't erase the past. However his son, his OTHER son, Toya Todoroki, had been revealed to be the villain Dabi during the war, his identity, and the past of both him and his father had been brought to light.
Along with the fact that the pro Hero Hawks had been an undercover agent for the Hero Commission investigating the PLA, and had killed one of the Villains, Twice.
Deku vaguely remembered him from their brief encounters, he didn't seem all that dangerous in comparison to the likes of Shigaraki and Dabi. But it didn't matter how dangerous he was or wasn't, he was killed. By a HERO.
That, along with the students of U.A. being involved in the conflict, some like him being forced onto the front line even, caused just as much uproar.
It was all a lot to take in. And that was what publicly happened.
He had managed to unlock two more quirks, Float, the one which All Might's mentor Nana Shigaraki had when she possessed One for All, and Danger Sense, the fourth inheritor's quirk, which he didn't have a clue how to control. By that count there's only three left….. Izuku thought with melancholy. But that's not what worries me….
Shigaraki, he could track him.
Miro, who had regained his quirk thanks to Eri, had come by yesterday and explained to him that the running theory was that Tomoko of the Wild Wild Pussycats' quirk was what was used to target the heroes. But only Izuku and Bakugou knew that he had targeted him.
Kaachan. the green haired inheritor thought sadly. His classmate, his rival, his teammate…..his friend. He had taken a blow meant for him by Shigaraki. He remembered how he had been so abruptly knocked aside in the air, only being able to watch helplessly as his friend was impaled by Shigaraki. It was all his fault, Bakugou had told him that what he did was 'damned if not the stupidest fucking thing he had ever done'.
And he was absolutely right.
He got hurt, he could have been killed! He….what if he's not the first?
The thought terrified Izuku. The rest of his class had been involved in the war as well, some of them were hurt like Todoroki, and other students like Nejire or Tamaki. And then the other half of his class who went to support the heroes who were securing the hospital were all endangered by that monster that Shigaraki somehow managed to control!
And that's what it came down to again. Him and Shigaraki.
Ever since that day when we talked at the mall…I somehow knew that we'd wind up facing each other but….not like this. he thought as he sat up in bed. Looking down at his arms, he bandages wrapped around them and his fingers like he was a mummy, the damage done to them was mitigated, but they were still sore and hurting from time to time. When his mother came to see him, he swore she looked like she was going to have a heart attack. Unlike last time this wasn't on U.A. or him, this was on the Hero Commission, which was admittedly a relief to him.
U.A., his friends…..he didn't want them to be hurt anymore…
But this all led to one question that had been spinning in the back of his head all day. What if Shigaraki attacks U.A. next to try and get to him?
He though of U.A. falling apart like Jaku City did and it terrified him. But it wasn't just U.A., what about his home? His mother?! Or all the people In this ward!? He had managed to fight Shigaraki off yes, but in his current state there was no way he could defeat him. I can control One for All up to 40%, that's not enough to beat him though, and I need the rest of the quirks in One for All if I want to even stand a chance, and I haven't even started to understand how Float works! I still have trouble controlling Black Whip for extended periods of time, and I have no clue how Danger Sense even activates or-or-or- his anxious thoughts made his heart hammer in his chest.
He was so far away from ready. Meanwhile Shigaraki…All for One, whomever was in control could just as easily show up at any moment and crush him and the school. Aizawa had already been crippled twice over by Shigaraki! And he couldn't do anything to stop it!
Would…..would it be safer if I left? he asked himself. When All Might's mentor died at the hands of All for One, Gran Torino had him go to America to finish his training safely away from All for One's influence and reach. The idea of running away, it felt wrong, like how he had to let Eri go back to Chesaki when he first met her despite his gut feeling of knowing something was wrong. But ultimately it had been the right call, there was no doubt that if he had tried to fight Chesaki right then and there, he'd have died and it'd be for nothing.
Maybe I should talk to All Might? he asked himself. However the thought came with doubt to it, All Might would no doubt try and reassure him that everything was going to be ok somehow but…how? He didn't know, no one did, what Shigaraki's next move was now. The plan, from what his friends and he had gathered, was to capture all the villains in one fell swoop, but they didn't count on Shigaraki gaining the quirks that All for One had stored and copied from others to be transferred into him.
It caused a sense of unease, as though any minute he could simply appear and lay waste to whatever city he wished. What if he just does that to try and draw me out?! No, no that doesn't make sense, All for One hid away and worked in the shadows, even with a new….host, he's not at full power. Yet. If he just starts randomly attacking cities then it'll just redouble the Heroes' efforts to capture him. he thought, looking down at his bandaged hands.
Right now, Izuku was probably the most dangerous piece on the board for All for One, he was his target now…..just like All Might had proclaimed, it was his now his turn…and he needed to be smart.
Swinging his legs over the side of the bed he made his decision, I can't stay here. I can't stay at U.A. either, not until I've beaten Shigaraki….not until it's safe for everyone. he thought as he walked over to the chair on the opposite side of the room where a bag of his clothes Ayoama had snagged from his room at his request for when he was discharged was. I can't tell anyone….not even All Might …If I keep moving then…then I'll figure it out. he hastily decided as he changed out of the hospital clothes he had on.
It was less then an hour when it was discovered that Izuku Midoriya had left the hospital unattended, Iida had come by to visit his friend and to wish him well in recovery on is way home when the attending doctors told him that Izuku was nowhere to be found. The youngest Iida son quickly pulled out his phone and sent a mass text to the rest of his class.
Midoriya is missing! -Iida.
It didn't take long for chaos to eerrupt inside the group chat.
What do you mean missing?! - Uraraka
Are you sure he's just not in the bathroom or something? – Kirishima,
The doctors told me that they've searched the hospital and haven't found him! – Iida.
I'm on my way there. – Todoroki.
Same here! -Mina.
How far could he have gotten? Is his arms ok now? – Mineta.
I'll fly overhead with Dark Shadow to try and find him. – Tokoyami.
I'm on the train now, I'll join you when I get there. – Shoji
Within another hour, Class 1A was already searching for their lost friend…..Iida however had to deal with a small issue at the hospital. "GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY FOUR EYES! I'M GOING TO FIND THAT USELESS BASTARD MYSELF AND BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF HIM FOR LEAVING BEFORE ME!" Bakugo shouted as Iida, stood between him and the door of the hospital while a nurse and doctor tried to pull him back to his room. "AND YOU TWO GET THE FUCK OFF ME!" he roared at the two, startling them and making their grip slack on him so that he nearly stumbled into Iida.
The nurse and doctor readied to try and escort Bakugo back once more, but Iida raised a hand up to stop them, "Bakugo your still recovering from the battle. Your in no condition to search for Midoriya." he stated calmly but firmly. Bakugou looked the Tenya brother in the eyes unwaveringly. Iida looked back with equal determination, "Please. If he comes back here then someone has to be here to notify us." he asked rationally. Bakugo let out a growl of acknowledgement, he wasn't wrong, there was a chance that Deku could actually return to the hospital any minute, "And given my Quirk, I can cover more ground faster alone then making you're ok."
"Oh fuck off and go after him." Bakugo shot back before turning around to the nurse and doctor, "And what are you two dumb bastards looking at!? Maybe if you two were good at your jobs I wouldn't have needed to get up out of bed!" he reprimanded.
…..it was at this time Iida remembered exactly why Bakugo wasn't given his provisional license along with the rest of his class. However despite the bluster, he knew that Iida had a point, one of them did need to stay here if Deku came back. But Iida wasn't faster then him…..and even if he was, Bakugo would be faster the next time Deku decided to run off and do something stupid.
Iida walked out of the hospital and found all of Class 1A who could help present, Ochaco, Tsu, Tokoyami, Mina, Mineta, Momo, Ojiro, Sato, Sero, Kirishima, Kaminari, Jiro, Toru, Todoroki, Koji, Aoyama, and Ojiro. "All right! Our friend is missing and we need to find him, Tokoyami, Sero, you two gain vantage points up high and search from there. Jiro and Shoji you get to spots where you can hear the most and relay any information to us, the rest of us will split up in groups and search on foot. Understood?" he asked, the class rep seeing his fellow students all nod in agreement before pairing up and dispersing.
It was only natural that Uraraka would pair with Iida for the search of their missing friend, "I've tried calling him but he hasn't picked up once." Uraraka said sadly, looking at her flip phone to see the that her call hadn't been answered, the icon of Deku beaming at her only making her worry more. She had found him after the fight with Shigaraki, there had been so much blood but thankfully the injuries that Deku had sustained were all healed by now, but it still reminded her of their summer training camp ad how badly Deku had been hurt.
"We'll find him." Iida said assuringly, the pair had taken a minute to recover from Iida's quirk, Uraraka made herself weightless while Iida zoomed through the city streets. While it allowed them to cover ground fast, Uraraka was understandably a little queasy from the experience, "Are you all right? I didn't mean to go so fast." he asked.
She gave him a small smile and waved him off, "Oh it's fine! I'm just not used to going that fast, it's like a roller coaster." she said before looking back at her phone. "…..why did he leave?" she asked quietly. Iida pressed his lips together, he had been wondering the same thing. "I mean if he was in danger then he would have told someone, one of the heroes or the doctors or the teachers or…us." she pondered.
When his older brother had been hospitalized by Stain, all Iida could think of was revenge. Looking back on it he knew that while there was no shame in the anger he felt, it shouldn't have been what solely driven him, that wasn't what a hero was. "When I was…..keeping things to myself. I did it because I felt that no one could really understand." he explained, Uraraka turning to Iida and giving him a saddened look. He turned and smiled at her, "But I also didn't know how much having friends could help. Maybe we just need to remind him of that." he said positively.
The gravity user smiled at the notion, touching her hands together, she floated up into the air as Iida turned around, grabbing onto his shoulders she held her breath before patting his shoulder, the engines in Iida's calves extruded out before the Tenya heir shot down the street in search of their missing friend.
"Are you…ok?" Momo Yaoyuzu asked her partner Todoroki as they made their way through an alley. The youngest of Endevor's children had been quiet…well, quieter then usual. Aside from the messages to the group he hadn't talked to anyone more then needed after the war. The red and white haired teen turned to her, his usual stoic face had a small amount of stress to it.
"I'm Fine." he said calmly, "It's Midoriya who we should be concerned about." he said logically as they turned a corner. Momo's reasoning that he would avoid busy roads is what led them to searching alleyways of Mufasu. With Midoriya being such a planner, it made sense that he would make sure to not be seen while he escaped.
The creative heroine nodded in understanding, "Right it's just…never mind." she said, shaking her head, he was right, they needed to focus on Midoriya.
Todoroki however noticed the disappointed tone she had and sighed, "I…..I apricate the concern. I just….I'm still processing everything." he admitted.
Momo looked down, "We all sort of are."
Todoroki hummed, "Probably what Midoriya was doing…..you think that's why he ran off?" he asked. He knew that All Might was the green haired student's idol, but Izuku had a admiration for heroes overall. But now with everything being thrown into question? It could be getting to him, it was affecting a lot more people then him if it was.
Momo gave him a unsure glance, "I don't think so. Midoriya isn't the type to just…..give up." she explained, she wasn't the closest to their classmate, but he was always very nice and polite to her, to everyone really. Iida and her may have been the leaders of the class on paper with their roles as Class President and Vice President, but whenever they were in a dire situation, Midoriya took charge. She envied that honestly, but she also knew that it came with it's own burdens.
Todoroki nodded, "Your right…..he never gives up on people." he said, recalling what he called out to his father during the revelation that his brother was in fact Dabi.
Sure the past never dies! And that's why I'm watching Endeavor real hard as he tries to do better! And guess what?! You aren't Endeavor!
Despite all the wrong his father had done, he couldn't deny that he was trying his best to right them. "Which is why we'll never give up on him." he added, Momo smiling a little at Todoroki's conviction.
Izuku had never run away from anything in his life. His dream, danger, his friends, his goals, none of them….so it really shouldn't surprise him that he had no real clue about HOW to run away properly. This seemed like a much better idea at the hospital. he thought as he sat on a bus stop bench. He didn't have so much as 2000 yen in his wallet, that could MAYBE get him out of Mufasu Ward on a train. But they were closed at this time of night and in theory a Bus was the next best option.
Izuku adjusted the sleeves of his white hoodie, he didn't undo the bandages around his arms, the skin was still tender from the battle, but with the green vest and pants he wore he didn't look too out of place on the street. Certainly not like he had left the hospital in the night without telling anyone where he was going since he planned on running away.
And by 'planned' he meant just did it.
His head lowered, "I probably should have thought this through." he admitted to himself. If he was going to stand a chance of confronting Shigaraki he needed to actually think things through from now on and not just act on instinct. Rubbing his head, he had considered trying to use float but given that he didn't know the nature of how the Quirk worked yet (All Might's notes on it were vague) he could very well end up being like that Ball that Uraraka had thrown back in their Quirk Assessment test and just float up into space forever…
He grabbed the bench to be safe.
A Slight pain in his head made him snap up, Danger Sense! Is it Shigaraki!? Is he-
"DEKU!" Izuku turned his head just in time to see both Uraraka and Iida skid past him, the former trying his best to stop around such a quick corner and barely managing to keep upright as he slid around to face him on the sidewalk with Uraraka clinging to Iida's head from behind for dear life. When the pair were stable, Uraraka dropped off Iida and rushed over to the bewildered inheritor, "Oh thank god Deku you're ok!" she exclaimed as she ran into him, wrapping her arms around him.
Izuku looked up to Iida who ran over to him as well,"Uraraka?! Iida!? What are you guys doing here?! How'd you find me?" he asked as Uraraka pulled back, when he saw the worried look on her face however whatever questions he had died in his throat. Looking up at Iida he saw as fear slowly turned into relief, Oh…..Oh god what have I done?! he asked as he realized what he had done, "I-I'm-" he began as Iida walked over to him and put a hand on his shoulder.
"It's ok Midoriya…..it's ok." he said calmly.
Izuku shook his head, brushing Uraraka's hands off him as tears gathered in his eyes, "No! No it's not I-! I didn't…I didn't want you all to worry about me…." he weakly said, he hadn't even considered what him leaving would do to his friends and classmates. He should have left a note explaining himself so they wouldn't worry and not looked for him!
His friends looked at one another oddly before turning back to Izuku, "Deku….look, let's go back and-"
"I can't." Izuku replied, looking down and not being able to look them in the eyes, "I don't…I don't want anyone else to get hurt because of me." he lowly said.
That raised about a half dozen red flags for Iida and Uraraka. However outside at midnight at a bus stop probably wasn't the best place to have this talk, "Deku…..please talk to us." his brown haired friend pleaded, "We're your friends. We all are and if there's something wrong we want to know." she offered, Izuku looked up at the welcoming looks his two best friends gave him.
No…..no you owe them. You owe all of them an explanation. He nodded in agreement before standing up wiping the tears out of his eyes.
It took Kirishima, Iida, and Kamnari all together to hold Bakugou back from killing Izuku.
"YOU DUMBASS I SWEAR IF YOU EVER PULL A STUNT LIKE THAT AGAIN I'LL MAKE YOU WISH YOU WEREN'T ABLE TO LEAVE THE HOSPITAL!" Bakugo shouted as Midoriya took cover behind Uraraka, who in turn was taking cover behind Shoji in Izuku's hospital room. Iida of all people came up with the lie that Midoriya simply wanted some air and lost track of time. Izuku didn't know what surprised him more that the doctor believed that or that Iida was able to lie so easily.
Between that, Mina giving him a hug that made him think he might be admitted here longer, and Kirishima shaking him for making them worry so much, everyone had thankfully calmed down. Izuku sat on the edge of his bed with Iida and Uraraka by his side, while the rest of his class was huddled around the bed on the floor and sitting in the chairs that Momo had made with her quirk.
"Dude, why'd you bail?" Mineta asked rather bluntly, earning a smack in the back of the head from Tsu's tongue that reached out and hit him. "What?! We're all wondering!" he replied.
"Kero. There's this thing called Tact that you really need to learn." the frog hero replied just as bluntly.
The exchange however made all eyes fall onto Izuku, whom was looking down at his folded hands, looking up at his friends he took a deep breath before exhaling. "It's…..it's Shigaraki….." he said, the room was quickly covered with an eerie silence. The head of the league had come up a few times in conversation, for the most part it was speculatory. Such as where they thought he was, why he had such a bone to pick with All Might, how he got his hands on the Nomu to begin with. All of which had been answered by this point, "He….during the war, he tracked me down." he explained, glancing at Bakugou who gave him an even look.
Kaminari rubbed the back of his head, "I mean yeah dude, it was a war."
"No you dumbass, he means….." Bakugo barked out before stopping himself. He and Deku shared a look, the inheritor nodded. "….he means crusty face can track him." he clarified.
THAT fact made all eyes snap to Izuku with realization, "He has a quirk that can track people, but…..he sensed I was there and-"
"That's why you left." Uraraka finished, when Deku had abruptly left during the evacuation of Jaku, she had found it odd, but with Bakugo going with him she didn't pay it much mind. "You left because…..you knew he was going to come after you."
Todoroki gave the inheritor a confused look, "Wait, but how could you know that? At the time we didn't even know Shigaraki was awake, or that he had escaped capture." he asked.
Sero shook his head, "Wait, wait, wait, why would he target you in the first place? I mean you told us that he found you at the mall at the end of the first semester but that was just on accident." he recalled. All of them had reported t the police to try and help aid in the villain's capture but with Deku and Uraraka being the only ones who saw him, they were the only ones who could really help.
Once more Bakugo and Deku shared a look, this had been a conversation they had a number of times since his new quirks began to manifest. How long could they keep One for All under wraps, Black Whip was nothing what he could do before, the only reason the others thought it was a new way for him to use his current quirk was because that was what he theorized to them. But now he had Float, now he had Danger Sense, what if next he could shoot lasers out of his eyes? Or change his shape somehow? They only knew a few of the previous inheritor's quirks, and it was only a matter of time before they ran out of lies.
Bakugo shared the concern with All Might, the cat was gonna come out of the bag sooner or later, he was convinced that they could keep it under wraps with Deku training in preparation for the other quirks before they manifested so it seemed like they were natural. But that was if the other quirks could seem natural to the others he developed, making his jumps look like hangtime might work for a while but when people start noticing he doesn't need to come down?
Bakugo sighed before turning to everyone, "Listen up. What he's about to say? This doesn't leave this fucking room. Got it?" he asked.
Kirishima gave him a confused look, "Wait, you know what's going on here?"
Izuku shut his eyes and nodded, "Yes…..there's a few people that know but…we didn't tell you guys because…it's dangerous to know." he admitted, causing confusion and concern amongst his classmates.
Todoroki was the first to speak up, "Jiro, Shoji, make sure we're alone." he asked. The two nodded, Jiro's earphones jacking into the ground and Shoji's arms spreading and the hands on end turning into ears. After taking a few minutes to confirm there were no eavesdroppers, they nodded.
Izuku used the time to prepare himself mentally for what he was about to do, All Might told him to never give out the secret of One for All. But that was when it was just the two of them involved, all his friends were now a part of it without even realizing it. They deserved to know, "I….it's hard to think of how to start this but…..All for One, the villain All Might fought in Kamino Ward. He….he's the reason All Might was All Might." he began.
The class was silent as Izuku informed them about All for One, how he could take and give quirks, how the first user was given his power. And how it passed on, and on, and on, and on until it reached Nana Shimura. And it was passed onto All Might. "Woah, woah, woah! Wait-what?!" Ojiro exclaimed as Deku reached the point in the tale, "Isn't that the lady who….All Might's final fight, that's who he said Shigaraki's grandmother was isn't it?" he asked.
Iida turned to Izuku, who gave a solemn nod, "Yeah…..All Might told me after Kamino." he explained.
Toru's clothes shook, "That….that's so messed up! He-he just…..he got Shigaraki just so he could hurt All Might more?!" the invisible girl asked, baffled by how much hatred and spite All for One must have possessed. Todoroki was tense, it was just like his brother, how he had been used to twist the knife in deeper to his father, to the rest of his family.
Izuku recalled during the war, seeing Nana in the mindscape with Shigaraki and All for One, part of him wished he could speak with her, talk to her about what her grandson has done, and maybe some way to reach him or…..something. "Yes he did….she was training All Might by the time she….died….and then All Might finished his training in America." he continued, the knowledge now more public. "Later though when All Might faced him again he was….he was badly injured."
"Kanimo…" Momo muttered, "That was it wasn't it? That's when he transferred his quirk to someone. He said…."
"Now it's your turn." Iida recalled, "So then All Might has a successor as well!" he exclaimed as his hands raised perpendicular to one another. "Then One for All lives on then!" he realized.
Deku and Bakugo both stared at him blankly, then each other. Then to the rest of the class.
Uraraka however seemed to focus on the question, "But what does all of this have to do with…." she trailed off as she remembered something. When Shigaraki first appeared at the mall, after the USJ, he found Deku and held him hostage. But when he let him go and left, Deku asked him what was All for One's plan…. "….it…..it's you….isn't it?" she quietly asked in awe. The entre room once more became silent, instead of shock however their expressions conveyed disbelief.
"…..yeah. I'm the ninth." Izuku confirmed, feeling as though the weight of a building had been lifted off his shoulders at the admission.
The silence could be cut with a knife it was so thick, until Bakugo spoke, "Well?!" he barked out.
Todoroki was the first to speak, "But your strength….your bones can be broken, and Black Whip-" he began.
"But how?! I mean-what?!" Kaminari exclaimed, still processing.
Izuku turned to the Todoroki son, "One for All it…..I couldn't control it at first. I can only control 40% of it now. All Might was able to use 100% right away for some reason." he answered truthfully.
Mineta raised his hand, "Wait how did he give it to you? I mean if it's through DNA does that mean…." Mina smacked the back of his head.
Izuku lowered his head in shame. "I….I had to eat a hair of All Might's." he admitted in embarrassment. There was a pause before a collective shutter went through the room except for Mineta.
"Ok lot less gross then I thought." he said in relief.
Tsu cupped her chin, "So wait, then Blackwhip is your actual quirk?" she assumed. "I mean you had a hard time controlling it ever since you started using it. Is that why you only used One for All?" she theorized. Momo hummed in agreement, the reasoning he had given them wasn't 100% sound but at the time it was the only thing they could come up with.
Izuku shook his head, "No…..I was quirkless before I got One for All." he explained, feeling another weight on his shoulders that, while lesser, was older then the one he had with the secret of his quirk.
Jiro blinked a few times, "But…..but Black Whip…."
"Deku's the ninth inheritor." Bakugo stated, "All Might was Quirkless too. The others weren't." he began as preference to the next bit of information. "Deku's getting six other quirks."
Izuku was pretty sure Uraraka was frozen next to him, glancing over he saw her jaw was dropped, Iida was no better as she was, for a brief moment he thought there might be outrage, what made him worthy of such a gift? Why would All Might choose a quirkless boy like him? Instead of outrage or rejection however, Uraraka beamed like a spotlight, "That's amazing Deku! You-wait! Is that why we did that training with me, Sero, and Tsu?" she asked excitedly.
"Oh yeah! You were trying to learn to be more mobile!" he remembered, snorting a little as he remembered the afro hair that Deku had as a result of failing to capture Bakugo. He still had a picture of that on his phone that he sent out to everyone in class 1A. Deku's name had been changed to Broccoli Boi by Mina for a solid week.
The Pinkett was bouncing in place, "That's so cool Midori!"
Deku's face warmed, he didn't expect this much praise, "Wait so, One for All, Black Whip, you got five more left!" he realized.
"Um….actually I have three left." Izuku meekly replied.
Mineta nearly fainted, "So…cool." he mumbled out.
"What?! When? How!?" Iida asked.
Izuku's face became stoic, "Shigaraki." he replied plainly, the excitement being sucked out of the room, "When we were fighting, I couldn't let him touch the ground or risk another decay wave going out. Without realizing it I activated Float for the first time." he explained. He looked over at Uraraka, "Nana's quirk is similar to Uraraka's but….I'm still not sure how it works entirely." he admitted, looking down at his hand.
Uraraka gently clasped it, "Then I'll teach you! If it's anything like my Zero Gravity then it should be pretty simple since I've been doing it for years now!" she replied positively. Izuku smiled at her optimism.
"Wait, you said three are left. What about the other one?" one of Shoji's mouths asked.
"That one….well, it's called Danger Sense, and it allows me to sense danger. It makes my head hurt though, and we really aren't sure what it can do." he explained as he looked to Bakugo. "It went off earlier when Uraraka and Iida found me so…..maybe it's to what I perceive as danger? But how it works is…" he shook his head, now was not the time to start muttering to himself.
Tokoyami hummed as he cupped his beat, "While not a flashy quirk, it's extremely powerful. With that you could possibly find villains before they strike." he reasoned.
Mina stood up from her spot, "Ok this explains a TON Midori but…why did you leave?" she asked carefully. "I mean you getting seven quirks! That's-"
"It's not enough." Izuku replied sadly, silencing the room. "I haven't mastered ONE of them yetm Black Whip still hurts me if I use it for too long, and I don't even know how to use the other two yet, or what the remaining ones are." he stated factually. He looked down at Uraraka's hand, that was still holding his bandaged one, "Even with all I have now I couldn't beat Shigaraki by myself….and since he can track me? He can strike at any moment."
Bakugo frowned as he recalled just how fucking FAST crusty face was at Jaku, he cleared the city to get to them in what felt like a millisecond. And the bastard wasn't even at full power yet, "He's right, Crusty was at maybe 70% when we fought him." he said, the side where his quirk pierced Bakugo's body stinging slightly.
Mineta swallowed loudly, "B-B-But you can beat him! Right Midoriya?" he asked fearfully.
Izuku was quiet, "….it doesn't matter if I can beat him now. What matters now is making sure he doesn't hurt anyone else." his hand slipped out of Uraraka's. "If I stay at U.A., how long until he attacks to try and destroy One for All? How long until he does to it what he did to Jaku? To all the heroes there to get to me?" he asked., his head hanging low. "I…I can't have anyone else get hurt or die to save me….."
Bakugo's teeth clenched, Gran Torino hadn't made it, he hadn't known him but Deku was trained by him, he trained All Might, and it was obvious Izuku felt responsible.
"You…you were going to leave to protect us?" Sero asked, he knew that Midoriya was possibly one of the most selfless people he's ever met but even that seemed….extreme.
Izuku was silent, Iida's hand found his shoulder, "Midoriya…I…..I can't imagine having to deal with all of this alone." he admitted before looking to the class, "I don't think any of us can." he admitted. Izuku looked up at him, his friend smiling at him the same way the Izuku did when he was trying to encourage them, "But we're heroes too, we know how dangerous this life is. And what kind of heroes would we be if we didn't help our friend?" he asked.
Uraraka took his hand again, giving it a gentle squeeze, "Iida's right Deku. We all got your back."
"Hell yeah man." Kirishima agreed.
"You've got us watching your backs." Sero chimed in.
Todoroki offered a small smile, "After all you've done to help me Midoriya, I couldn't say no if I wanted to." he replied with a soft amount of amusement.
"Yeah Midori! We'll kick his ass together!" Mina cheered.
Oijiro rubbed the back of his head, "What kind of guy would I be if I didn't help?" he asked humbily.
"Midoriya….your pretty rockn'." Jiro admitted with a small smile.
"Yeah you are!" Toru cheered.
"Just tell us how we can help." Momo readily offered.
"I'll do what I can to help!" Koda added.
"We're in this together!" Sato said, clasping his fist in his hand readily.
Kaminari grinned, "For real! We're not gonna leave you hangin' man!"
"We'll fight the darkness with you." Tokoyami said, Dark Shadow emerging from him and giving a thumbs up.
"We are friends are we not?" Aoyama asked, "We'll sparkle together!"
"Of course we'll help. Kero." Tsu ribbited.
Mineta groaned, "I'm gonna die aren't I?! Well you better beat the snot out of that All for One guy!"
Bakugo rolled his eyes before looking at Deku, "Ya moron, what did you think we'd do? Sit back on the sidelines? No way am I letting cursty face get away with spiking me. Next time I'm blowing that bastard straight to hell." he replied.
Izuku was beyond touched….he was inspired. He had told them everything, and they still stood by his side, ready for whatever may come their way. Tears leaked from his eyes but he quickly brushed them aside, "Thank you…..all of you." be said gratefully as he dried his eyes on the back of his sleeve, not noticing hat he was slowly rising off the bed.
"AH! Deku!" Uraraka exclaimed.
"Oh crap he's floating!"
"Uh what do we do?"
"Izuku can you stop?!"
"I-I don't know how I just got to tired last-AHH!" he exclaimed as he fell back down to the bed, he clung to both Uraraka and Iida with his hands, the two gripping their friend tightly in case he started to levitate again.
"Ok yeah, we'll start those lessons when you get discharged." Uraraka stated with a bit of a laugh. The chuckle spread throughout the class as Izuku finally relaxed for the first time since the war ended, he may not have known where things were going in terms of the world. But with his friends by his side? He felt ready for whatever tomorrow would bring.
AN: And that's my My Hero Academia story! What did you think? It's not my first time writing Deku and company, but it's the first time I've written a story cntered around them solely. Please be honest as I really want to portray these characters are they are shown in the Manga and show, this honestly started as a little discussion I was having with a friend on tumblr about what might happen after the war arc. And with it winding to a close I figured next they would deal with the aftermath.
I also heard that MHA will be ending soon, which makes me think that possibly we'll get a DBZ/Shippuden situation where the school is closed down so the 'academia' ends and their lives as heroes continues in another series.
Because let's be honest there' WAY too much left for it to suddenly end. And that's if 'soon' means actually soon too. Anyway, leave a review with your thoughts, I hope you enjoyed the oneshot!
