Sarah Jane Adventures X Doctor Who
A Yellow Christmas
Chapter Four
Running was the only thing that kept them safe. No mattered how hard they tried to hide the snowmen would always find them, which meant they could never rest and Clara was getting worse every moment they were out here.
As they darted behind another car, Sarah Jane spotted a house behind them. Peeking from around the car, she noticed they were only three yellow snowmen. Looking at the sonic screwdriver in her hand, she slipped it into her bag and then pulled out two of her sonic lipsticks.
"Head to the house I got this," Sarah Jane said.
Not arguing, The Doctor headed to the house when Sarah Jane jumped up, turning the sonics lipsticks up to the max level. She then threw them toward the snowmen before running for the house. The moment she reached the door, an explosion erupted and Sarah Jane smiled at her success.
Inside Sarah Jane made it to the living room where The Doctor was in a chair and Clara laid on the couch. Disappearing up the stairs, Sarah Jane returned a few moments later with a pair of dry clothes for both the Doctor and Clara. Setting them on the arm of the couch, she tipped toed over to the fireplace and threw in some logs. Lighting a match, she threw it in, and just like that the once cold house grew warm.
"Thank you," The Doctor mumbled.
"Don't mention it now, rest," Sarah Jane said.
"Here I thought I could celebrate a simple Christmas," The Doctor mumbled.
"Come on in our line of work, nothing is simple," Sarah Jane said.
The Doctor merely nodded with a small smile as he laid his head back and closed his eyes.
Sarah Jane left the room with a smile as she made her way back to the front door. She sat by the window keeping watch while she let everyone else sleep. Their lives were eventful ones, but anything else would be dull. With her eyes staring out the window, she pulled out her remaining sonic lipsticks and gave them a few tweaks. She yawned, but today the sandman wouldn't take her away, for she needed to remain vigilant.
Morning came, the sun rose within the sky but even its light could not melt away the snow for the air was just too cold. The neighborhood was clear and silent as the snowmen continued to bounce up and down the street and sidewalk.
In the living room, a groan caused The Doctor to stir. He opened his eyes and looked to the couch; a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips for sitting up on the couch rubbing her head was Clara. He sat down right beside her as she looked up at the Time Lord.
"This isn't a dream, is it?" Clara asked.
"No, do you remember Sarah Jane Smith?" The Doctor asked.
"Of course, is she here?" Clara asked.
"Yeah, in fact, she's the one who helped us," The Doctor replied.
Clara tried to stand, but a wave of dizziness pushed her back down on the couch. The Doctor handed her some clothes, and he took the set that was for him. He extended his hand, which she gladly took. Soon the two of them were off the couch and walking toward the main doors.
Hearing footsteps, Sarah Jane turned around and smiled.
"Good Morning," Sarah Jane said.
"Morning, thank you for saving us, but I see this is long from being over," Clara said.
"Your both welcome how about I take you to the restroom?" Sarah Jane said.
Clara nodded she took hold of Sarah Jane's hand leaving The Doctor to keep a lookout. A sigh escaped his lips the moment the two women disappeared up the stairs. He noticed the dark circles under Sarah Jane's eyes and the way she hides her yawns behind a smile. They rested now Sarah Jane needs to do the same.
Standing outside the bathroom door, Sarah Jane struggled to stay awake. The moment she heard the water running, Sarah Jane finally let out a yawn. She hadn't pulled an all-nighter in a long time and this probably won't be the last, but she was glad she wasn't alone.
"How have you been? I notice the children are not around," Clara asked from the bathroom.
"They are all in college, they used to write or call, but I don't hear from them anymore," Sarah Jane said with a hint of sadness.
"I'm sorry," Clara said.
"It's alright, they are probably busy," Sarah Jane replied.
Soon the door open and Clara stood there in her dry clothes. She gave Sarah Jane a big hug. Pulling away, she looks upon Sarah Jane's features but noticed something was off.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Clara asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Sarah Jane said with a forced smile.
Clara wasn't sure, but she nodded and the two of them headed back downstairs.
They met up with The Doctor who was wearing his dry clothes, but his eyes were staring outside leading Sarah Jane and Clara to join him. They were staring at a lone snowman bouncing in place outside on the street. Their eyes widen for moving up the street toward him was a car covered in yellow snow. It seemed to be dragging something. They got there to answer in the form of eight snow cocoons attached to the car, with four bouncing snowmen behind right behind it.
"They're collecting them… this isn't good." The Doctor said.
"Isn't there a way we can stop them?" Clara asked.
"No, I think we should follow them," Sarah Jane replied.
The Doctor and Clara nodded in agreement.
With the snowmen collecting the cocoons, leaving the house would be more difficult than they all thought.
