I don't own Pinocchio
A/N: This is a one-shot fanfiction between Honest John and the Blue Fairy and how they came to be. The name 'Evelyn' for the Blue Fairy was the original voice actress, Evelyn Venable, so I gave the Blue Fairy that name.
Bringing a jug of beer close to his lips, Honest John allowed the cool foamy drink to slide down his throat. He and Gideon had just accomplished another con act, this time from a wealthy victim. However after their con act, something had caught Honest John's eye and it was something that had sparked a familiarity in his mind. That object that he had seen was a white dove preening its feathers. One of those feathers had been plucked and it fallen right onto John's hat but it wasn't as white as the other feathers were, but it had a tint of a baby blue color to it. It was a color that John had seen before those many years ago before an event had happened that had turned him into the person, or in this case, fox that he was today. He wanted to forget that event and the only way that he knew how to do it, was drown away his sorrows with another gulp of the frothy beer.
"My dear John," a voice said to the man as he entered inside a small home that had a minimal amount of decorations. A smile came upon John's lips as he looked up and noticed the blond woman that stood before him with a calm smile upon her lips. She wore a blue dress with a baby blue shawl wrapped around her shoulders.
"Evelyn," John smiled as he walked up to the woman and ran his hand along her blond hair before taking a hold of her and enveloping her into a hug.
He felt her arms wrapping up around him and holding onto him, as if he was the only thing that she valued. If Evelyn was being honest with herself, money had been scarce for the both of them. John wasn't making enough in his job and Evelyn no matter how much bread she sold the money immediately disappeared. However, money or not, Evelyn was glad to have found someone to spend her life with.
John on the other was not happy with his life. He had seen the people that he worked with living a happy life and making more money than he did. His mind craved to have more money so he and Evelyn could be happy living in a large home and just living the easy life. Working for the money was not helping them and his mind had gone through a whole different route. There had been moments where he was close enough in stealing someone else's money, but there had been a conscience in him that had told him not to do it. That conscience was becoming very annoying to the point where it enraged John. There was going to be a moment where he wasn't going to listen to that conscience anymore, but he didn't know when.
Many days later, Evelyn and John were walking down the street arm in arm and enjoying the lovely morning sky. Evelyn kept her head cast down on the ground as she walked whilst John twirled his cane around his hand and whistled a cheerful song. As they walked, the passed by another couple that were elegantly dressed and before the couple noticed a bill had fallen out of the man's pocket. John's eyes immediately fell upon the money and he grabbed it before the man noticed that it was missing. However, this sort of behavior didn't go unnoticed to Evelyn.
"John," she said as she took a hold of his arm, "we must give that back."
John disagreed with her thoughts. "This will help feed us."
"But what if they needed that money to feed themselves?" Evelyn asked him, "it's not right to take someone's money. Who knows how hard they had to work to do that?"
"And I don't do that?" John voiced his thoughts, "they won't notice that it's missing. We'll be well fed tonight. Come along dear," he said and pulled her along with him before she was able to finish the remaining of her words.
After that encounter with the wealthy couple, it was more than enough to make John not listen to his conscience. If he had been able to grab that amount of money without the wealthy man noticing, imagine how much he was able to get if he continued with that route. There had been days when he had returned home with a large sum of cash, much to Evelyn's surprise.
"However did you make so much?" she had asked him.
"A raise," John had sneakingly lied to her and he couldn't tell whether Evelyn believed him or not, but it was enough to at least bring some food to their table.
After a couple of weeks, Evelyn had been growing suspicious of John and this sudden raise in money that he had been receiving, though she didn't dare question his whereabouts. She only hoped that her suspicions were false. She loved that man and if she were to find out about his dishonesty, she didn't know what she would do. Now that she was alone in her home, she thought it best to go out for some fresh air. As she walked down the road, she noticed the same wealthy couple that she had John had witnessed. Just as they passed her, she noticed a bill falling from the man's pocket.
"Sir," Evelyn said as she reached down and grabbed the bill in her dainty fingers. "Your money." The man along with the woman that he was walking with, turned around and smiled to her before taking the bill in his fingers and tipping his hat to her, thanking her for her kindness.
It was a good feeling to show kindness to others, but feeling good was not the intention that Evelyn was going for. She just wanted to do the right thing and sometimes, she wished that she was able to bring good to others. However, she was just a normal resident in Italy and nothing more.
Keeping her eyes glued to the pavement where she walked, she heard the galloping of horses but she couldn't pinpoint where the galloping was coming from. Wait a second...she whipped around and before she could think, her body collided with the hooves of the horses and then the wheels of the carriage. She had never before experienced such a traumatic event. Her eyes tried to remain open, to see through the blurriness that was forming upon her eyes.
"Evelyn!" was that familiar voice that belonged to John's. Slowly turning her head, it was like a part of mind told her that these were her last moments that she had with him. Brining her hand up to his cheek she said, "live honestly." Just then, her eyes closed as she felt the spirit leaving her body.
Up in the Heavens from the North Star, the Blue Fairy looked upon the people of the town where she once used to live in as the woman named Evelyn. To her happiness, she was glad that she had made an old woodcarver happy by granting his wish to turn his puppet into a real boy. Though there was also a sadness that lingered within her eyes. Ever since her death, she had been transported into a place that she didn't believe existed. To her surprise, she had even seen the wealthy man and the lady that he was with up where she was. She didn't know whom they were and what they were doing in this place where she wishes were completed.
On her first night, the man of wealth had spoken to Evelyn and told her of John's dishonesty especially of how he had taken the money and didn't return it back. That money had been the result in giving John a long snout, orange fur, and bushy tail. Changing him from a man that he once was into a fox. As for Evelyn, due to the honesty that she had, she had been bought up to the Heavens where the man of wealth felt that she had a goal to complete. To grant wishes to the people that needed them the most.
Be that as it may, there didn't go a single night where Evelyn didn't send messages to the man, or in this case fox, that she had spent the limited of her time, with. Though she didn't know if he hadn't noticed her signals of the many doves that she had sent to him. White doves where they all contained a baby blue feather. Whether he knew it was her or not, Evelyn had never stopped in sending such signals to ensure that he wasn't alone.
After all, she didn't appreciate the time that he spent with that Coachman and that silly cat, but that didn't mean that she wouldn't stop saving his life from the multiple times that he had been in danger.
The End
