A/N: I'm back, everyone! I'm so sorry for disappearing again. The pandemic has took its toll on me and my life as much as everyone else, and college happened. Anyway, thank you so much for everyone who's reading this and who read this. Breaking the Rule will be ending soon—after so many years.
"—ROGUE! FOR PETE'S SAKE, LISTEN TO ME FIRST!" As much as how she enjoyed this side of Rogue; she was getting tired of how ridiculous the one-sided conversation was. She was here to confess to Rogue, not be silenced by the sudden change of character!
Lucy took a deep breath; releasing the pent-up frustrations and emotions that built up for the whole control of the turmoil inside of her, she stared deeply at his eyes. "I like you… you, blockhead!" she yelled—rather dramatically.
Stunned, Rogue could only stare back at her, his eyes widening every second as the blonde's words sink in.
A fuming Lucy puffed her cheeks towards the dense dragon slayer. Moments passed, and Rogue remained still as if her confession was nothing out of the ordinary. As if contemplating whether Lucy was worth answering—or as she overthinks it to be.
'I can't tell what he's thinking,' Lucy thought, biting her lip unsurely. Feeling her eyes prick, she clenched her fists. 'I can't just back down now.'
The blonde took a deep breath, facing the man once again. "I only realized some time ago, but… I think I liked you way before. I'm not demanding for you to tell me that you like me, too."
She blinked a couple of times, raising her head, to blink away the tears threatening to fall. "I like you… I really do," she let out a shaky breath. "That's all I have to say. I'm sorry for disturbing you," feeling that she couldn't handle anymore second of Rogue's seemingly indifferent silence, she forced herself to face him with the last bit of courage she had.
Lucy took a step backward, before bowing a little. "Goodbye, Rogue," with that, she turned away from him.
Her tears fell as if a dam broke out. With every bit of her self-control, she willed herself not to show any signs of crying—though she knew he could smell her tears. Before she could even fully step out of his room, she felt her head throb; her vision suddenly blurred, and everything was spinning.
"LUCY!"
The last thing she saw was the panicked look on Rogue's face before everything went black.
A pained groan echoed around the room. The blonde woman laying on top of a bed tried focusing her eyes which was blurring from the sudden brightness of the room. She looked around, only to see the white walls of a familiar place.
'The guild's clinic?' she thought, clutching her head in an attempt to suppress the sharp pain that shot through as she tried to get up.
"Hey, careful," a velvety voice gently told her, supporting the blonde to sit upright.
Looking up, she saw the handsome face of the raven-haired Saber.
"Rogue," she whispered. Just then, memories of her confession earlier came flooding in—causing her to break out of his grasp.
Confused, Rogue allowed her to wriggle out of his reach. A pained look etched on his face.
"W-what happened?" Lucy asked, averting her gaze. The embarrassment from their earlier situation made it uneasy to look at the face of the man she likes.
His eyes softened as he looked at her, "Kiana said it was due to fatigue. You were probably under a lot of stress."
"Oh," she simply said. After all, what could she say to a man who seemingly rejected her earlier?
Awkward silence filled the air, as both sat idly; looking at everything, except each other.
"Uh…" she trailed, doubt feeding her every thought.
"Lucy—"
"—Rogue"
The two said at the same time, causing them to pause. Giggling after realizing that both were just as eager to break the awkward atmosphere as the other.
"You go first," he ushered, being the gentleman that he is.
The blonde bit her lip, "I… I'm sorry. I shouldn't have acted like that…" she trailed, pausing for a moment before she spoke again, "However, everything I said is true. I'm not pushing you to return my feelings, I'm just glad to let it all out—"
Just as she was rambling, the raven-haired Saber suddenly closed all distance between the two of them, completely capturing the blonde's lips with his.
'Kiss…' she absentmindedly chanted inside her head. Lucy remained dazed even after Rogue's kiss.
The couple were both flushed red that one look at them will give the impression of something to someone.
Feeling shy all of a sudden, the courage that took over Rogue earlier was completely gone. He sheepishly sat in front of her, refusing to make eye contact. Coughing from embarrassment, the Saber looked around the room—as if looking for something interesting.
The conviction that filled Lucy's voice was gone as well. She sat on the bed with no voice coming out of her lips—making her look like a gawking goldfish.
"Lucy!" The door suddenly swung wildly that made the two jump out of their seats. She would've found it hilarious if only she wasn't the one getting embarrassed.
Looking rather guilty, the couple avoided eye contact with each other—the newly arrived people completely unaware of what transpired.
Sting, along with the rest of the Sabertooth gang, began to talk to her animatedly, causing Lucy to giggle in amusement. They didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, it seemed—and she was fine the way that it is.
After all, what could she even say without embarrassing the both of them?
Lucy glanced at the man in front of her whose cheeks were tinted. Right then, she understood.
"I'm alright," she said, winking in Rogue's direction.
