"Cadman. Come in." John said when the Lieutenant knocked on his office door.

"Sir."

"I need your help with something." John said.

"Of course Sir. Is this a new mission?"

"It's not exactly duty related. More personal." He explained looking awkward. "I would ask Lorne, but he has previously proven himself useless with this."

"Okay." Laura said not sure where John was going.

"Despite my best intentions I think all my actions have ended up causing nothing but trouble for the doc."

When he paused Laura asked. "Did you want me to argue or agree?"

"The point is." John said ignoring the question. "I want to make it up to her, but I'm not exactly sure how. I was hoping you could give me some ideas."

"You want me to help plan the perfect date for Jennifer?" Laura asked trying to keep a straight face.

"Exactly." John said before actually processing what Laura said and adding. "Apart from the date part. But I don't want to cause more problems and you said there was the flower guy waiting in the wings. Although Jennifer didn't know that."

"Sometimes Jennifer, as smart as she is, can't see the thing right in front of her."

"So there is a guy?"

"That depends."

"You are not making much sense." John said.

"Permission to speak freely Sir."

"Of course."

"If you want to make it up to Jennifer, don't worry about the flower guy. Or perhaps decide if you want there to be a flower guy."

"What?" John asked lost.

"How about we just focus on the date?" Cadman suggested.

"Okay. So what would you suggest?"

"You have no ideas of your own?"

"Well Jennifer mentioned never having a prom so I thought maybe something along those lines."

"Jennifer doesn't like the attention." Laura pointed out. "So how about a quiet, more intimate dinner? You can still dance, but just without the crowd."

"Any music choices?" John asked.

"Just keep off the heavy metal and punk."

-00-

"What's going on?" Jennifer said as she joined John on the balcony. "I thought we were meeting for dinner."

"We are." John said moving to one side so Jennifer could see the candlelit table.

"This looks a little more formal than dinner."

"Ah well I wanted to make it up to you."

"Make what up to me? I'm sorry, I shouldn't have blamed you for the wedding thing."

"It's not that." John said.

"Then what? Is this still about the tantrum you threw in the infirmary."

"No." John said. "Although I am very sorry about that."

"Is it-" Jennifer started only for John to interrupt.

"You could stand there listing everything I have done wrong, but we would be here all week. So perhaps I should just tell you."

"Um okay. Sorry." Jennifer said looking a little embarrassed.

"When I heard about Rodney and Ronon I wanted to help you. But it seems like I have caused one complication after another. For that I am sorry. So tonight I want to make it up to you."

"You don't need to." Jennifer said.

"I know. But I want to." John said pulling out a chair and waiting for Jennifer to sit.

-00-

"This is the most relaxed I have seen you, ever." John said an hour later as they sat talking and laughing by candlelight.

"Blame it on the company." She smiled. "Thank you for tonight."

"I am not done yet." He said standing. You mentioned you never had a prom so I wanted to give you that experience, only Cadman said you probably didn't want to do that publicly so here we are, without the formal attire and people. But I have music." He said pressing a button causing a song to start playing. "So may I have this dance?"

"Last time we danced we ended up married." Jennifer reminded him.

"So tonight should be far less eventful." John said taking Jennifer's hand and pulling her first to her feet and then close to him.

"I'll hold you to that." Jennifer said. "But your foot is still in danger."

"Relax doc, I trust you."

"You have previously made a pact with Todd, a Wraith. Your judgement can be a little suspect." Jennifer reminded him.

"I think Todd would feel offended by that." John said as they slowly danced.

"Just don't blame me when you end up with more than twenty six bones in your foot."

"I won't." He said, spinning her round before pulling her back into his chest just as the song ended. As the silence descended John looked down at Jennifer and said.

"I don't want there to be a flower guy."

"What?" Jennifer asked lost.

"I don't want there to be a flower guy."

"I have no idea what you are talking about." Jennifer said still lost.

"Cadman said there was the flower guy waiting in the wings."

"Laura likes to meddle." Jennifer replied before taking in what he said and asking. "Wait, what's wrong with there being a flower guy?"

"Nothing, only I don't want him to be another guy." John said.

"Colonel-"

"John." The Colonel corrected.

"John, I have no idea what you are talking about." Jennifer said.

"Sorry, I'm not very good at this. I have always done better with the showing rather than the telling." John said before dipping his head and capturing Jennifer's lips in a kiss.

When he finally pulled away he looked down at Jennifer who seemed to be rooted to the spot, too shocked to move.

"I'm sorry. If you don't want this I will go and we will never mention this again." John said.

"This?" Jennifer asked, still not fully processing everything that was happening.

"Us." John said.

"Us?" Jennifer questioned wondering when she had lost the ability to speak.

"I want there to be an us. If there is going to be a flower guy, I want that guy to be me."

"You want an us?" Jennifer asked in disbelief.

"Yes."

"Why?" Jennifer asked, kicking herself for not being able to speak in sentences.

"Because I like you." He said.

"You like me?"

"Yes." John said as he started to misinterpret Jennifer's lack of enthusiasm for a disliking of him. "I'm sorry." He said taking a step back, leaving Jennifer's chest suddenly feeling cold. "I shouldn't have- I mean I thought- You're right, I mean, why would you be interested." He said before noticing Jennifer had grabbed hold of one of his hands. Looking down at his hand he then looked back at Jennifer who stepped towards him.

"I want an us too." Jennifer said before raising herself onto her toes and kissing him.

"Morning Colonel." Woolsey said as he passed him in the Corridor.

"Woolsey."

"You are looking happy this morning." Woolsey commented.

"What's not to be happy about?" John asked.

"I assume that question is rhetorical so I won't list everything that keeps me awake at night." Woolsey replied.

"Your to do lists still growing?" He asked.

"Yes. Mainly thanks to your team." Woolsey pointed out.

"Well I think I can take one thing off your plate." John said.

"What's that?"

"Hold off on my divorce will you?" John asked before walking off.
