Mandy and Randy had been talking for the last month. In that time Mandy was surprised to learn that Randy had a two year old daughter, named Alanna from a previous marriage. They gotten very close over the last month. They were finally going on a date tomorrow night. They were talking on the phone. It was setup where anything Randy would say came up on Mandy's TV.
"How was your day?" Randy asked.
"Good."
"I can't wait to see you tomorrow."
"I can't wait either."
"I hope you like the restaurant I'm taking you to."
"I've never been there but I'm sure I will." "How's Alanna doing?"
"She's good."
"Did you win your match today?"
"Yeah." "I can't wait to get you to a show." "I know you'll love it."
"Well I like watching it on TV."
"It's a lot different when you're there."
"I have to go so I can grade papers."
"Ok." "See you tomorrow."
"Ok bye."
The next day Mandy was on her lunch break. Jennifer sat next to her.
Tonight's date night isn't it? Jennifer signed smiling.
Yes it is. Mandy signed smiling back.
Are you two making it official tonight?
You mean labeling what we are?
Yeah.
I don't know.
Are you guys gonna have sex?
Jen, it's our first date.
So? I know how much you like each other.
We aren't sleeping together on the first date.
Do your parents know about him?
No.
Well if you feel things getting serious, you need to tell them.
I know.
Later that night Mandy was waiting for Randy. She was in a light grey dress. She was very nervous. Her lights started blinking indicating her doorbell was ringing. She took a deep breath, stood up and answered the door. Randy was standing there.
"Hi." She said.
"Hi." "You look really beautiful."
"Thanks."
"Ready?"
"Yeah."
They were driving to the restaurant.
"How was your day?" He asked.
"I can't really understand you right now." "You're driving and it's dark."
He stopped at a red light and looked at her. "I'm sorry."
"It's ok."
"Way to go dickhead." He thought.
They were at the restaurant eating and talking.
"Randy there's something I haven't told you yet." She said.
"You're not married are you?" He said smiling.
She laughed. "No." "Nothing like that." "You're the first hearing man I've ever dated."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"What made you change your mind?"
"I thought you were cute." "I know this is only our first date and we're a long way away from this, but if I ever introduce you to my parents, it might a problem."
"Since I can hear?"
"Yeah." "They're not used to it." "I don't know how they'd react."
"You said they're both deaf to right?"
"Yeah, and they don't speak."
"I guess I'll have to win them over with my charm, if the time comes." He said smiling. She smiled.
After dinner he drove her home. They were standing outside the front door.
"I had fun tonight." She said.
"Me to." "Will you be my girlfriend?"
Yes. She signed. "That means yes."
"I know." "I'm not fluent yet, I have a long way to go but I've been practicing." Can I kiss you? He signed. "Did I sign that right?"
"Yes you did." They kissed slowly. "I better go in, otherwise I think I might invite you upstairs." "I don't think we should, yet."
"I understand." "Goodnight."
"Goodnight." She went inside.
