This fic is inspired by 'No Instructions Included' by addxks. I loved the idea of them being friends with benefits after their divorce around season 3-4, so I thought to give it a shot and here we are!
Typical disclaimer: I do not own Grey's Anatomy.
After the panties and Mark back on their lives, they both ended up getting a divorce. It's not like they had worked their asses off for their marriage, they were both defeated and lazy, deep down they both knew it had no remedy. Addison was going to miss Derek, and he was going to miss her. Going back to being single after all these years? It was strange. They had decided to end it all, go their own way, grow as individuals, forget the last twenty years ever happened.
Now she was stuck in this rainy city, nowhere to go. And he? He was McDreamy, he was adored and everyone wanted to be in his service, even if he had kept his marriage a secret when he first arrived at Seattle Grace, he was still the perfect neurosurgeon, and Addison grew from Satan to McHot. Addison was not McDreamy, but at least she had her own charms and was less hated than when she had first arrived.
They sat there at Joe's after a long hard working day and just drank in silence. It was no coincidence they were sitting together, Derek had chosen the seat next to her for some reason. They were not sure whether to speak or not, joke, maybe chat, ask something… but no, they just sipped in silence.
Then she made the first move, she grabbed Derek's scotch and took a sip, surprising him. She swallowed the liquid that was indeed strong.
"Wow," She said, still feeling the burning scotch on her throat.
"One of the purest single malt scotch, Bruichladdich."
"How do you drink this? It's definitely the strongest I've tried," She said, sipping her gin and tonic, hoping it would help get the scotch's taste off her taste buds, but no, it got even worse.
"Felt like I needed it."
She gestured to Joe, "Water, please," Addison said nicely and when she turned her head to look at Derek, he was smirking, "What's so funny?"
"That happens to you for stealing my drinks."
Addison couldn't respond, because Joe came back with her water and she drained the full glass as fast as she could, her ex-husband laughed at her. Addison smiled to herself, the taste of Derek's awful scotch not as strong as before, thankfully now she could barely taste it.
"Happy birthday though," He mentioned.
She looked at him surprised, "You remembered?"
He nodded, "I did. I would have told you sooner, it just was a busy day," Derek said in such a soft tone it made her feel special.
"It's okay. Thank you for remembering," Addison said, smiling at him, her eyes on his.
Derek smiled back, "It's nothing really."
"At least someone remembered," Addison commented, her smile fading, she took her gin and tonic and took a sip.
He frowned at her, "What do you mean?"
"You're the third person that has wished me a happy birthday today. Nancy, Savvy and now... you," She said, looking down at her drink sadly.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Derek said, resting a hand on top of one of her own.
"Don't be. It's better. I feel less old," Addison shrugged and slowly moved her hand off from underneath his, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"I'm 38 too."
"Exactly."
They both chuckled.
"You're mean."
"Hey, it's my birthday, be nice," Addison fake pouted at him.
Why was she all alone on her birthday? As much as Derek wanted to ask her, he wouldn't do it. He wouldn't cope to hear she's lonely, that she has nobody, because she had Mark, and Richard, Miranda, and maybe even him. She looked so sad and down it sort of hurt.
"Happy birthday, Addison," He said, grabbing his drink and holding it up.
Addison did the same and their glasses clinked, "Cheers," Addison said.
"Cheers," Derek replied.
"And this…" Addison said and opened the door, "Is where I live."
Addison opened the door wide for Derek to enter and then closed it behind her back as they were both inside her hotel suite, Derek took off his coat and Addison turned on the lights, they weren't too shiny, she had found a way to get them lower, since she always got to her hotel room after a long day with the purpose to sleep, so shiny bright lights were not her favorite for that sleepy-like process.
"No dogs eating my Choo's, no squirrels watching me sleep and no poison oak."
"A damn castle," Derek joked, making her laugh.
She nodded, "A castle with a mini bar."
Addison took off her coat and shoes, then opened a bottle of champagne that was on the mini bar and filled two glasses with the bubbly liquid, meanwhile Derek was getting comfortable on the carpet, sitting like a child on the floor.
Addison handed him his glass and sat next to him on the floor, sighing before raising her glass again, "For us."
"For us," Derek repeated.
They clinked their glasses and both took a sip from their champagne glasses. Addison let out a sigh, "I know I shouldn't say this, because it would make things weird or worse than that, I don't know... but I've missed you. Your company. I've missed this… well, you."
"Yeah, me too," Derek nodded and he rested a hand on her knee, just in the line between her skin and the fabric of her skirt, "Sometimes I wonder what you're doing and I run scenarios in my head."
"To be honest I do that too. It's strange, don't you think? Us not being together anymore," Addison said, looking out the window to the city lights.
"It's for the best, though."
"Yeah," She nodded, "Although it was nice when we weren't hurting each other."
Derek sipped his champagne again, "Addie?"
"Hmm?"
"Would it have been different if we had kids?"
"I guess maybe yes," Addison said, sipping her champagne, "Maybe we'd have something to stay together for."
"Right," He looked down to the absence of his wedding ring.
Addison looked at him, his eyes were glued down to his hand, "Why do you ask?"
"Meredith asked me that once."
"Oh… and what did you say?"
"I didn't know what to reply when she asked, I guess it took me by surprise, but I think maybe it would have been worse. I don't know. Maybe I would have become indifferent anyway and our child would have been in the middle of it all."
"Or I would have slept with your best friend anyway and I would have been Satan," Addison whispered and watched him look back up at her.
He lip-closed smiled in an apologizing way at her and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, "I'm sorry."
"I should be the one saying that."
Derek put his glass on the carpet, not too close to him, making sure it wouldn't fall, and then grabbed Addison's, putting it next to his. He turned to Addison and hugged her all of the sudden, running circles on her back.
Addison let out a breath of relief and wrapped her arms around him too.
Addison tried to pull away, and Derek let her. They stared at each other's eyes for what felt like forever, just sitting there, closer than before because of their hug.
"Happy birthday," He said again and grabbed her jaw gently, pushing her face closer to his.
They both breathed heavily as their faces came closer and then Addison opened her lips slightly, letting him kiss her. They were tipsy and melancholic, why couldn't they reminisce for a second?
As they kept on kissing, Addison had pulled him closer and let his tongue inside her mouth, she was moaning in pleasure. But then she opened her eyes and pulled away, "Stop, stop."
"Sorry… I…" Derek said in between pants.
She panted as well, trying to find a clam breath, "It's alright. Just… I don't want strings attached. We're not Addison and Derek anymore, we're single Addison and single Derek, divorced Addison and Derek."
"Right," Derek agreed, running a hand through his hair.
"You're dating Grey, I'm depressed and alone, we can't do this."
He looked at her in the eye and said, "I'm not dating Grey, we're over."
"Still, we can't," Addison said, standing up from the floor, almost tripping because of her tipsy state.
"We could just… have fun," He suggested, standing up.
She looked at him, "Like… just sex?"
"And occasional chatting but yeah, just sex."
"And occasional chatting."
"That's what I mean. We don't have to though… I'm just saying, we're both miserable and available, I don't have time for silly games with interns, I have work, and you have work too… so… what do you say?"
She ran a hand through her hair and took a deep breath, "No feelings, just sex."
"Exactly, just sex."
"Okay then," Addison said before crashing her lips to his.
Derek kissed her back as violent as she did and helped her out of her blouse as she unbuckled his belt, their hands roaming around, touching skin, desperate for touch. He took off his shirt and got rid of his pants as fast as he could. Addison got out of her skirt and bra, leaving her exposed breasts to his sight, she could visibly see the bult that had appeared underneath his boxers. Derek kissed her hard on the lips, so hard and aggressive that Addison thought he was going to leave a bruise on them, they both fell into bed and continued on what they were doing.
He sucked on her bottom lip as she caressed his black curls and gasped for air meanwhile they kept on devouring each other. His hands traveled down her sides, helping her out her panties and then stroking the inside of her thighs, him on top and her back against the mattress, feeling his lips up from her neck to her earlobe, making her groan as their arousal increased.
Maybe they weren't great at keeping a married afloat, but they were great in bed.
Addison felt his hands closer to her core, but she flipped them over to be on top, making Derek gasp. Addison knew exactly what he liked and what he disliked, so when she started stroking his length and he moaned in her ear, she knew she was doing the right thing.
"No," he breathed and gently took Addison's hand off him, "It's your birthday," Derek stated and turned them around, less aggressively as Addison had before, "It's your night," he managed to say as he kissed her lips again.
Addison let him take control and kiss her softly at first, their heart rates still high but now calmer than before. Derek grabbed one of her breasts as he kissed down her neck, Addison letting out small moans as he continued down her collarbone to her other tit. He sucked on it and licked her nipple, while his other hand stroked her other nipple. Addison arched her back, feeling so much pleasure at once.
Derek knew her spots, and she was grateful for it.
Slowly Derek went back up to her, he ran a hand through her hair and kissed her on the lips softly, Addison's hands were on his shoulders, grasping at them because at any minute she would need to squeeze them in pleasure.
Their eyes filled with lust met in the almost dark and then Addison had to get one hand off his shoulder, to guide his hand down her body, to show him exactly what she wanted. She opened her mouth as a small moan escaped it. Derek ran a finger up and down her labia, feeling how wet she was.
"Derek…" She begged.
Derek buried his head on the croak in between her neck and shoulder and filled her up with his length. As Addison predicted, she had to grab onto his shoulders. Derek's hand ran circles on her clitoris, causing her breath to quicken.
He started penetrating her faster and deeper as time went by, and she not only came once thanks to clitoral stimulation, she came thrice, thanks to g-spot stimulation as well, and her clit already being sensitive helped to get her over the edge again. He came too, his arousal was taking over his body, her moans and the feeling of her were amazing, not to mention how incredibly wet she was and how attractive her body was to him. It was all a reason for him to come.
He would have allowed himself more orgasms, but she was the birthday girl, and she deserved them more than him.
Panting and sweating next to each other, they stared at the ceiling.
"I…" Addison tried to say, "Um, thank you for that."
"You too, uh, did you enjoy it?" Derek asked.
She nodded, her heart beats rapid, "Yeah, very much. Did you?"
"A little too much." He managed to chuckle.
She chuckled too, "I like only sex and occasional chatting, it's good."
"Was that a nice birthday present?"
"Oh, my favorite one so far."
Addison and Derek chuckled, then Addison turned to the side, closing her eyes to sleep.
The next morning she found herself alone in bed. They had had steamy, hot, passionate sex and he had left before she could wake up to his blue eyes. They weren't together anymore, and as they had said many times: It was just sex… and occasional chatting. She enjoyed the sex with her ex-husband, she even enjoyed her birthday even if by that she meant the last five hours of it. Derek could make things better in her life, but she had to realize, she had to snap out of her personal nirvana and realize: they were friends with benefits.
They had sex and they chatted, but there was not supposed to be a bond anymore, just hot sex, no communication, just passion, no 'honey's or 'babe's, just moaning each other's names.
Hopefully you enjoyed this! Will try to update soon. Please review.
