Emily walked down the stairs and into the kitchen, early that morning, where she saw Jack eating his cereal for breakfast at the table.
'Hey Jack,' Emily kissed his head lightly.
'Hi Emily,' Jack looked up at her with a cheeky smile.
'Did you sleep okay?'
'Yeah,' he nodded, 'where's dad?'
'He had to go into work for a bit so you're stuck with me. Is that okay?' Emily sat next to him.
'Yeah that's okay.'
'Cool, I was thinking we could go to the shops and get a fathers day card for tomorrow, and then maybe bake a cake or some cupcakes? Is that good?' Emily asked.
Jack kicked his legs excitedly and smiled. 'Yeah, I want to make cake.'
'Okay good, well let me just have a coffee and then we'll go, why don't you go and get ready in the mean time,' Emily suggested.
When they got to the shops, they went straight to the baking aisle. 'Can we make chocolate cake?'
'Yeah, chocolate cake is good, we'll get loads of chocolate. Do we want to make little cupcakes or a big cake?'
Jack thought about it for a minute as Emily picked up the eggs and checked them inside. 'A big cake.'
'A big cake, okay shall we have white chocolate in it as well and icing and make it extra chocolatey,' Emily suggested.
Jack jumped up with a cheer and the old couple near Jack looked on at him with a smile. 'Yes extra chocolate.'
'Cool, do you want to help me choose one of the icings to put on top? Then we can go pick the cards.'
'Can we have chocolate icing?' Jack gave Emily the puppy dog eyes.
'How can I say no when you look that cute,' Emily laughed and ruffled his hair. 'Of course we can. Let's go get the card now.'
'Are you going to get one as well?' Jack asked when he noticed Emily standing by the cards and searching for the right one.
'I'm going to get a different type of card for him.'
'My dad really loves you. He's happy now,' Jack smiled up at Emily.
She had tears in her eyes when she heard what Jack said. 'Aw, he makes me happy as well and I really, really love him to.'
Jack responded before running off to the cards with Emily not far behind. She sent a message to Hotch, letting him know how everything was going. 'I love you x️' she pressed send with a smile on her face, before arriving next to Jack as he looked at the large selection of cards in front of him.
'I love you to Emily x.'
Emily chose a fathers day card and helped Jack choose one as well, before they went to pay.
Later that day.
When Hotch walked in, the place was spotless, the cake had been made and Jack had written his card. Now he was lying on the floor, watching a movie, with Emily asleep on the sofa.
'Hey buddy, I'm home,' Hotch tiptoed quietly to his son.
'Hi dad,' he replied absentmindedly as he concentrated on the movie in front of him.
'Did you have a good day with Emily?'
'Mhm.'
Hotch smiled and shook his head as he let his son carry on with the movie, he could talk to him later.
He cast his attention to a peacefully sleeping Emily on the sofa, and picked up the blanket to wrap around her, to keep her safe and warm. For a few moments he just stared at her, before pulling out his phone and taking a picture, for keepsake. A smile met his lips and he pressed a soft kiss to her forehead before going to make a cup of coffee.
It was around 20 minutes later, after Hotch had had a shower and was starting to make dinner, when he felt a pair of arms wrap around his waist from behind, and then a kiss pressed on his shoulder.
Hotch smiled before turning around. 'Hey,' he kissed her softly and put his arms around her. 'Are you alright?'
Emily nodded. 'Mhm, how was work? When did you get back?'
Hotch rubbed her back slightly before answering. 'Like half an hour ago, work was fine. How was Jack? Did he behave?'
'Of course he did, he was brilliant. We went to the shops this morning, and when we came back we had some lunch and baked a really chocolatey cake, and he started a movie whilst I cleaned up.'
His interest was peaked at the mention of chocolate cake. 'Chocolate cake?'
Emily laughed. 'Yes, but you can have some tomorrow.'
'What's tomorrow?'
'Fathers day,' Emily kissed him.
'Oh, so that also explains the flour,' Hotch nodded.
Emily looked around her. 'Where's the flour? I thought I cleaned all that up. I hoovered and mopped.'
Hotch laughed. 'It's in your hair,' he ran his fingers through her hair. At Emily's guilty look he asked how that happened.
'We had a mini... very small flour fight. There was flour everywhere when we tried to make the cake and Jack flicked some flour at me,' Emily revealed and they both laughed. 'So that's how it started. I cleaned everything up though... apart from my hair apparently.'
'It's absolutely fine, I don't mind. I wouldn't have known,' Hotch kissed her head softly.
'Okay, I'm going to wash my hair now and then I'll come help with dinner.'
'Dinner would be ready by then, but don't worry, go wash your hair and relax.'
The next day, Hotch woke up to a card from Jack and breakfast in bed from Emily.
'Happy fathers day dad,' Jack gave him a hug as he handed Hotch the card. 'We made you a chocolate cake yesterday.'
Hotch feigned shock. 'Oh really? Can I have some now?' Hotch tickled Jack's sides and he giggled uncontrollably.
'No, you can't have it yet,' Jack laughed.
'Okay,' Hotch laughed in return as he stopped tickling him.
Emily sat in the bed next to Hotch and watched them contently with a smile.
When Jack left Emily and Hotch alone, she kissed him deeply. 'Happy fathers day.'
Hotch kissed her again. 'Thank you.'
'Your an amazing dad,' Emily told him.
'I don't always feel like one, but thanks, it's nice to hear,' Hotch stroked her face softly.
'I'll remind you more often,' Emily promised. 'But don't doubt that you're not a great dad, because you are.'
'I believe you,' Hotch smiled. 'Are you meeting up with JJ or Penelope today then?'
Emily laid down next to him and rested her head on his chest. 'No, I'm staying with you today. Today is about you.'
'Okay that's great. I'm just happy spending the day with you and Jack.'
'I've got something for you as well but I'll give it to you after dinner,' Emily pressed a kissed to his chest.
'Chocolate cake?'
Emily laughed. 'Hopefully you think it's better than that.'
'Is it you? Because that would be perfect.' Hotch kissed her neck gently.
Emily smacked his chest playfully. 'It's part of me,' she laughed.
'That's good enough,' Hotch gave her a kiss.
When Hotch and Emily finally made it out of bed, she got in the shower with a smile, whilst Hotch spent time with Jack drawing random objects.
After getting ready, Hotch got in the shower, whilst Emily and Jack got ready to watch a film, Jack sat their waiting impatiently as Emily made herself and Hotch a coffee and took out some cake, before starting to put dinner on.
When everything was ready, Hotch came into the room with a smile as he saw Emily and Jack laughing about something. 'Do I smell cake? And coffee?'
Jack let out an excited giggle at the mention of cake. 'Yes, we can have chocolate cake now.' Hotch made his way over to help Jack cut some cake for them.
'I made you coffee as well,' Emily smiled as she looked up at him from the floor.
'Thank you,' Hotch gave her a kiss. 'What movie are we watching?'
'Avatar.' Emily replied as she moved to the sofa.
'Oh one of my favourites,' Hotch smiled and sat down next to Emily as she pressed play.
Emily rested her head on Hotch's chest and got settled in when Hotch wrapped his arm around her shoulder. 'Are you okay?' He asked quietly when the movie started.
'Yeah I'm good. Are you okay? Are you enjoying yourself?' Emily looked at him with a smile and intertwined their fingers.
Hotch pressed a soft kiss to her head. 'I'm good, I'm really enjoying myself today, thank you.'
'You deserve it.' Emily kissed him again before they continued watching the movie.
Half an hour into the movie, Emily remembered something. 'Oh shit.'
'What's wrong?' Hotch asked.
'Nothing, I just forgot the food I'd put on,' Emily got up quickly and rushed towards the kitchen.
'Do you need help?'
'No it's okay, carry on watching the movie, I'll be out in a minute,' Emily called back as she carried on rushing around the kitchen.
Hotch smiled to himself. 'Okay, let me know if you need help.'
Emily mumbled something incoherent back to him and carried on.
It was only a few minutes later when Hotch and Jack heard a massive BANG in the kitchen followed by something falling after it. 'Ow...'
Hotch got up and walked into the kitchen with a frown on his face, which quickly turned to concern when he saw a knife and a pot on the floor. Emily was standing next to it, holding her bleeding hand as she rushed to the sink and put cold water on it. 'Crap.'
Hotch manoeuvred quickly and picked up the things off the floor before going over to her. 'Hey, are you okay?' Hotch rubbed her back and checked her hand carefully. 'I'll just get you a plaster hold on.' Hotch kissed her head before grabbing the first aid kit on the side.
Hotch came back a minute later to Emily wiping her hand with a tissue but moved when he spotted blood seeping through it.
'Here let me help you,' he took her hand carefully and wrapped a bandage around her hand gently but stopped when she winced and her body tensed. 'Are you okay? Is that too tight?' Hotch turned to face her and stroked her cheek softly.
'No it was just pulsing a bit, but it's fine thank you,' she kissed him.
'What happened?' he asked again.
'I was rushing around after turning the hob lower and I ran into the pot, and the knife was right next to it. So I tried to catch the knife but instead of slicing food, it sliced my hand,' Emily joked.
'Okay next time you wanna catch a knife, please let it fall. I don't want you to get hurt,' Hotch wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug.
Emily laughed softly as she returned his hug. 'I promise.'
'Okay now let me help you. I'm not taking no for an answer,' he gave her a stern but loving look.
'It's done now just need to let it cook,' Emily gave him another kiss.
'How long does it need to cook for?'
Emily checked her phone. 'Another hour and a half roughly, give or take, but I need to cook the rice before it's finished.'
'Okay, so put the timer on for an hour, and put on the rice. Then you can check the food so it doesn't burn.' Hotch ordered.
'Yes boss,' Emily winked and he chuckled slightly. 'I'm surprised you let me cook after the last time.'
'I'm scared now.'
'Don't worry. I'll be careful, I've got the timer on. Thank you for fixing me, you're a life saver,' Emily kissed him again.
'You're welcome, now let's watch the rest of the movie and relax. I can cook the rice for you.'
'No, it's father's day, you don't need to move or do anything today.'
'Let me know,' he took her uninjured hand in his as they walked back to the sofa.
'I'm just going toilet first, I'll be back in a minute,' Emily excused herself, before running to the stairs and in their room.
Checking that the card she had written was still in the place she had left it, she breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the card and gift were still in place for later.
She felt herself relax again and went down to enjoy the rest of the movie.
'You okay?' Hotch asked when Emily sat next to him and rested her head on his shoulder.
'I'm good now, my hand is fine. Are you okay?' Emily pressed a kiss to his neck.
'I'm fine.'
Emily relaxed against him as he stroked the hair out of her face.
Later on that evening, when Jack had said goodnight and gone to bed, Emily got ready to give her gift to Hotch.
When she came back down, Hotch was in the kitchen making them both a cup of coffee. 'Hey baby,' Hotch gave her a sweet kiss and put his arms around her.
'Hey,' she kissed him back. 'Are you alright?'
'Yeah I'm good, are you?'
'Yeah,' Emily stroked his face. 'I have something for you,' Emily showed him the envelope.
'Okay, I just made us a coffee, let's go sit down.'
Once making herself comfortable, Emily handed him the card.
'Thank you. You didn't have to.'
'It's alright, I love you,' She kissed him.
'I love you to Em,' he kissed her back.
Emily pulled back from the kiss. 'Open it now.'
Hotch nodded and opened the card, which read in big blue letters, 'Happy Fathers Day'
On the inside it read, 'Happy Father's day to the best father in the world, you're my hero, I can't wait to meet you soon.'
Hotch stayed silent for a minute as Emily waited in anticipation for him to say something. 'Wait...' he started before looking at her, a look of confusion and shock on his face.
'There's another bit to it, on the next page.'
Hotch turned the page and opened it to find an ultrasound picture.
'You're... we're...'
'Having a baby. Yeah,' Emily nodded.
'May I?' Hotch had tears in his eyes, as he put his hand on her belly.
'Are you okay?'
'I've never been so happy. I can't wait to have a baby with you Emily. I love you so much,' Hotch kissed Emily with so much passion until she was breathless.
'I love you more than anything.'
'When did you find out you were pregnant?' Hotch asked.
'I found out a couple of weeks ago and they gave me an ultrasound. They said the baby should be born in maybe February,' Emily pulled up her top to show her belly and he touched it gently. 'I'm not really showing yet, but soon I will be.'
'It's beautiful, did you find out if we're having a boy or a girl?'
'No, I didn't know whether you wanted to or not, so I left it, but we have another ultrasound in a couple of weeks, so if you want we can find out, I'm only 15 weeks.'
Hotch kissed her again. 'Our little baby is growing in there, she's going to be beautiful.'
'She?' Emily laughed. 'You think we're having a girl?'
He smiled. 'Yes, I think we're having a girl.'
'What makes you so sure.'
'I just am. I just know it's a girl,' Hotch put his arm around her.
'I think it's a boy, I'm supposed to know, it's called a motherly instinct.'
Hotch laughed this time. 'Okay, I'll take your word for it.'
'So are you happy?'
'I couldn't be happier. Our own little family.' Hotch gave her another kiss and put his hand on her belly once again.
