Chapter 1: I didn't Want to be a Half-blood

Theseus' Perspective

"Thes, wake up," Clare ,my step mom, called. I sat up and let the clouds of sleep leave my head. I look at my alarm clock. 7:30 yMa 31, 2012. Not yMa, May. This new Dyslexia I've been developing is very agitating. Looks like the world can't give me a break for my birthday. I think of my sister. 5' 4'' with brown hair and almost black eyes. She is supposed to come over later. I look over at my bedside table. It has the invitations I need to pass out today. I think about the conversation I had with Skylar ,one of my friends in highschool, last night on my dad's phone. Who was the kind he talked about, Scyler Martenez? We had never talked about him before but he acted like he was our best friend. As I sit I realize my migraine was gone.

Last night I stayed up late reading. I finished the book at 1 o' clock. When I finished it a migraine took over. I was going to get some tylenol, but as soon as I put down my book my head hit the and I fell asleep. My newfound ADHD did not like me sitting for so long. My mind drifts to when I told my Alexandrea, my birth mother, about it.

We sat at her kitchen table after I asked if I could have some tylenol. She looks at me like I was in danger. "Did the headaches start when you started reading those books?" I nod my head holding The "Titans Curse'' in my hand. "Well, stop reading them," She said as if it was the simplest thing in the world. I shake my head. I couldn't. This book was my escape. Escape from expectations, stress, and problems that adults say I shouldn't even have to worry about.

"No,"

"No, what do you mean no!"

"I-"

"You don't get to say no to me! I am your mother!" I grit my teeth so I don't say a string of insults.

"I am not going to stop reading these books. Think about what you are saying. Reading a specific book series is causing me headaches? The dyslexia is what is causing me headaches, reading any books will cause headaches," she looks at me. She wants to say something, but to me it wouldn't be logical. Just then I see my sister some down the stairs by mom's chair. She opens her mouth to say something but I shoot her a look and she gets the exactly what I'm thinking. She goes back up stairs.

"Fine then I'll tell your father to tell you to stop," She pulls out her phone and calls my dad on speakerphone.

"Hello Alexandrea, what do you need,"

"Theseus is being disrespectful and He is yelling and he is refusing to stop reading the Percy Jackson books. I need you to tell him to listen to his mother,"

"Theseus if you can hear me right now I am telling you that you can read whatever you want and I know you did not yell at your mother. Alexandrea, most kids his age are struggling with multiplication and instead of video games theseus is obsessed with books. He can read what he wants as long as it is appropriate. See you tomorrow night Theseus," After that mother looked like she was going to blow off one of the veins on her head.

"I am going back to my room," As I walked away I heard her say something about camp and too soon, but I didn't care. I just walked away savoring my small victory.
