Chapter 2

As soon as the mysterious caller hung up, Mary called the police. Just as she predicted they were all there in five minutes, which was apparently enough time for the caller to escape. Phone records showed the call was made from a burner phone, the primary tool for criminals of all types. Dewey Riley, the sheriff of Woodsboro, talked to Mary himself. The next morning he was briefing his deputies on this, when an old friend walked in. This was Sydney Presscott, who had more experience with this than almost anyone on the planet. Dewey went to talk to her in private. She seemed to be shaking a bit.
.
Dewey: Syd, what are you doing here?
Sydney: I heard some new psychopath is killing people. I came to help.
Dewey: I appreciate that, but hopefully that might be unneccessary this time.
Sydney: What do you mean?
Dewey: Someone called this local girl last night, harrassed her, threatened to kill her if she couldn't answer a trivia question.
Sydney: What was the trivia question?
Dewey: Who was the killer in the first "Friday the 13th" movie. Mary said it was Jason, and the killer hung up and let her live.
Sydney: Jason didn't appear until the sequal. The killer in the first movie was his mother, Mrs Voorhees.
Dewey: I noticed that too. This leads me to suspect that this "killer" is a troll who likes to torment people, but is willing to stop short of murder. Possibly a homophobe, he mentioned Mary's ex-girlfriend, claimed to have tortured her. We questioned the girl, Jill, she says noone ever hurt her. A couple of my deputies think that Mary made up the whole thing for attention. In any event, noone has actually been killed yet.
Sydney: Still, I think I'll stay in town, at least until after Halloween. Just to be safe.
