Chapter 4
.
Sydney Presscott gave sheriff Riley and his deputies what help she could. She'd experienced no fewer than four different such incidents, she was the target in each one. Sydney had also helped others who'd been through similar horrors, a young woman named Emma in Lakeview, a young man named Deion. And Sydney's book was written to help others, let them know that they could overcome the psychological horrors and recover. On this day, October 28th, Sydney met a new fan, a young girl named Amy. Amy, and her friend Kalil, walked into the police station and right up to Sydney.
.
Amy: Sydney Presscott?
Sydney: Yes?
Amy: I have a copy of your book. Would you mind autographing it?
Sydney: No problem. Who do I make it out to?
Amy: Amy. This book, it probably saved my life.
Sydney: I'm glad to hear it helped. Do you mind if I ask, about these scars?
Amy: No, it's fine. Last year, I was just walking home, and some lunatic attacked me, cut my face. The police caught him, he's in prison. Anyway that's part of the reason we moved, figured I deserved a fresh start. I dealt with PTSD, even considered, like I said your book probably saved my life. You're my hero.
Sydney: I don't know about that, but it is possible to overcome trauma.
Amy: Good to know. This might sound weird, but could you ask your friends here to do me a favor?
Sydney: What kind of favor?
Amy: I just want to make sure that the man who did this to me is still in prison. I know I'm being paranoid and stupid...
Sydney: It's not stupid. After what you went through, ofcourse you're still a little afraid of him. I'll ask sheriff Riley to look into it.
.
Dewey Riley looked into this psychopath, John Harrison. John Harrison indeed had a long history of violence against young women. The previous summer he was arrested for attacking a 15 year old girl, slashing her face with a knife. The official report ommitted the victim's name because of her age, but Amy's scars were very real, so Dewey assumed it was her. But John Harrison was killed a month ago in a prison riot. That news should put Amy's fears at bay, but Dewey knew enough about horror movies to know that if he hadn't actually seen the dead body, they probably weren't really dead. This was real life, not a cheesy horror film. Still, Dewey couldn't help but wonder.
