Chapter Eight Five,

***Undisclosed location, third person***

Chancellor Palpatine was reading over the latest battle reports, but it really wasn't holding his attention. His latest failure was. Oh, the war was going overall in his favor, a draw between the two sides, something he was slowly working on to drain the Republic of the Jedi and its resources in order to take over. However, it was securing his next apprentices that he was failing at. Dooku was only temporary, a help during the war, a political figurehead to recruit systems to the Separatists, but he would have to be dealt with, once his usefulness wore off. But it looked like he was gaining no ground when it came to Skywalker and Kenobi. He was convinced Bane would bring the child to him on a silver platter. The Jedi would have followed her and turning Skywalker would be an easy job since he would do anything for her. Then with his lineage secured, the galaxy would be his.

But that wasn't what happened. Obi-Wan Kenobi somehow figured out his plot, rescuing his daughter and captured Bane. What made matters worse, Meagan Kenobi had gotten Bane to talk, when he thought the Jedi would never get him to crack, but she managed it. As a result, the entire plot was completely ruined. His grand idea of setting spies into the Jedi was brilliant and wonderfully executed and even succeeded, until Bane got himself caught. The Jedi eventually won the battle, freeing the children, saving Sasha Kenobi and getting back the holocron.

Palpatine sat down the datapad he had been trying to study, seething with anger. He wanted Sasha Kenobi, but no matter what he did, he couldn't seem to get her. He could be patient, he could wait. After all he had been waiting years to get a war started so he could rule the galaxy, but with a young Jedi, he wasn't sure he had the time. The older she got, the more indoctrinated she would become to the Jedi ways. Her father would make sure of that. Obi-Wan Kenobi served the Force with absolute conviction and would no doubt teach the same to his offspring. Time was not on his side with this one, as if the Force itself was protecting her, guarding her.

He rose from the chair and turned to stare out into the city. Even through the growing twilight, he could make out the spires of the Jedi Temple. She was so close, but yet, so far out of his reach. He knew getting Kenobi was the key to defeating the Jedi. He couldn't explain why he had felt that since the moment he heard of her birth, but it had almost become an obsession. And the more obsessed he became, the harder it became to take her.

But someday he would come up with something or maybe he had to take the Jedi down first, somehow remove the protection her parents provided, but she would call him Master. And in securing her, Skywalker's devotion to his beloved niece would entice him to follow and it wouldn't be too long before they both were his. His plan would succeed, they always did, at least eventually. He would have to be patient and be willing to change plans when and if the Jedi foiled one again. But that didn't really deter him much, he had felt her power, felt the connection between Skywalker and young Kenobi, that they would be a force to be reckoned with. But with all of his confidence of turning them to serve him, his one concern, not wanting to call it a fear, that standing together against him, could defeat him.

**Meagan's Point of View**

"I still don't think you have it in you." I awoke with a start, Cad Bane's voice echoing through my mind, still present in my dreams. I pulled myself from my bed and went across the hall to find Sasha sleeping peacefully, having recovered from the attempted kidnapping much better than I had. I re-tucked the covers around her, relieved she was safe, but I couldn't completely rest. Not until the war was over, not until the Sith was dead and the threat against my daughter was gone.

"Meagan?" My husband's voice shook me from my thoughts as he walked towards me, a survival bag in one hand and still clothed in his travel cloak. "Are you alright?"

I nodded, still not taking my eyes from my sleeping daughter.

He set down his bag before stepping into the room, leaned down and kissed her cheek before turning to me. "Come on love, let her sleep."

I allowed my husband to lead me from the room. I sat down on our bed as he began to undress. For the first time, now in the light, could see how dirty his clothes were. "Obi-Wan what happened?"

"It was a dusty windy place is all. Just weeks worth of grime. I'm not injured." He shrugged it off and I felt instant relief. "Now, what are you doing up? It's the middle of the night."

"I just woke up…." I sighed as he just looked at me. "I couldn't sleep knowing you were coming home….."

He came and sat down next to me, tugging his boots off before speaking again. "Are you still having that dream?"

A month had passed since Bane tried to take Sasha in which I was still occasionally being haunted by a dark caped figure kidnapping my daughter as well as Bane's voice taunting me that I couldn't do it. Though I knew deep down I was so angry with him, I could have killed him. A fact that still disturbed me. "Did we do the right thing?"

He knew what I was referring to and he too was struggling with it. "Maybe, maybe not. We did rescue the two younglings from a dark fate, as well as future generations. But the end doesn't always justify the means."

I nodded as I laid my head on his shoulder, glad he at least somewhat cleaned himself off, even if he didn't get around to washing his clothes. "I know, but I think we took it too far." Jedi philosophy was far from my expertise, but I knew the guilt when I did something I probably shouldn't have. I was protecting my daughter, but that didn't give us the right to do what we wanted to.

He nodded, running his fingers through my hair, well knowing my thoughts and feelings and what my next question was, what do we do now? "Well, first off, I'm going to see if the shower here can get off a week's worth of grime and you are going back to bed. We can meditate together in the morning and I think, overtime, we will heal together."

Well knowing my husband was right, I allowed him to tuck me into bed and then kissed me gently. "I can help you sleep if you need it."

I shook my head. "Having you home will be enough." He nodded and turned to go, but he stopped as I ventured a thought that had been in mind. "Can we just leave? Vanish into some distant planet till the Sith are gone and Sasha will be safe?"

"Meagan you know we can't ." He said after a few moments of silence, his voice hushed. "Anakin is the chosen one, and his destiny is somehow tied with hers. It will follow us wherever we go. Despite what happened, she will be safer with the Jedi for protection."

I wanted to protest his words, but I knew he was right. But as he leaned down to kiss me again, I couldn't help but get a little sassy. "You are going to owe me when this is over. I mean a real vacation, some beach somewhere where no one will bother us and I don't care what objections Windu or Yoda make."

He smiled indulgently, his gentle touch soothing me, and I began to feel the pull of sleep. "Whatever you say my dear."

I fought the yawn, grinning up at him. "I mean it, Kenobi, you and me naked together on a beach." He laughed as I continued. "I'm holding you to it too."

He kissed me again, his touch so gentle and soothing, especially since I'd been alone the last two weeks, trying to handle all this alone. "I won't be long. Sleep well love." I watched him as he ran his roughened fingers through my hair but soon felt my eyes closing as I drifted off to sleep.

Over the next little while, thankfully Obi-Wan hadn't been called away, and we spent some time together, continuing to discuss what happened as well as meditating together and finally beginning to heal from the ordeal. Of course the war continued on, battles being fought, weapons the CIS made, destroyed. At one point we had nearly captured both Grievous and Dooku at separate times but both managed to escape. Even though we had the sith's name, the Jedi had been unable to find out anything more about him, except that this was the master. Every time I heard his name a shiver passed over me, like I should know something about him, but couldn't quite place it.

But that wasn't the worst news, the Council got word that Chancellor Palpatine was working on new legislation, thinking he may be altering the constitution. Try as they might, Obi-Wan told me the Council hadn't been able to get any details about exactly what he was working on, just that it wasn't too major. But no one within the Temple had a good feeling about it. The war was slowly changing everything in the Republic and the Order but yet there was little we could do.

"Except end it, but how likely is that any time soon even though it's been nearly a year since Geonosis?" I asked Obi-Wan one night as we were discussing it as we lay in bed together.

"I know, Meagan. That's what we try to do, but it won't be over till we get the sith, Dooku and Grievous. The rest of them can run a muck but once the real leaders are gone, the CIS won't hold together for long."

I knew he was right but that didn't make things any easier as the Jedi could feel the end of the war was not in sight, like it was still almost just beginning, that the worst was still yet to come.

"Meagan, don't dwell on that." His voice was quiet and soothing. "Remember to take one moment, one battle at a time and we will survive."

I had been trying to, but sometimes it was just so hard.

"I know my love, I know." He leaned down, kissing me gently. "Try to get some rest."

I nodded against him, not knowing when one of us would be called away. Sure enough two days later he was gone and I followed only a few after that.

**Obi-Wan's Point of View**

After hearing about the Separatist taking over an entire sector, the Council sent both Anakin and I to help. They hadn't heard from either of the two Jedi teams so they weren't sure if something had happened or if they had just lost communication.

"Cody see if you can't see what enemy vessels are out there before we get too close." I instructed as Anakin and I stood side by side on the bridge.

"And see if you can't see if it's Grievous." Anakin added, glancing over another terminal of a map of the area. "It was rumored he was here and only he is capable of the damage we keep getting reports of."

"Yes sir." Cody and Rex both answered as they got to work as Anakin and I continued to form a plan of attack.

A few minutes later, Cody and Rex gave us the info they had managed to gather. "Very good." I said once they were done. "Now, Cody if you could block that area." I highlighted the spot on the map. "If we attack here, I think that would be a point the droids might run to."

When the plan was finished, Anakin and I gave our orders to the men. Once we arrived we put it into action. From my vantage point, I could tell it was working and when the time was right, my men and I closed in, closing the droid commanders in.

"I believe you owe me a surrender." I informed the general, who was a rather formidable field commander.

"Very well Kenobi, what are your terms?" I was quite surprised at his rather quick surrender, but took it anyway.

"Where are the Jedi and the troops with them?"

He nodded toward a building behind us, their command center obviously.

I turned to Cody. "Send a squadron in to free them."

"And this scum?"

"Oh, I'll keep him here with me for the moment, at least until he deactivates his droids." With that Cody and his men left, leaving the two of us.

"Now, where is General Grievous?" I asked, wanting to get the top droid out of the picture.

He glared back at me, not saying a word.

I wasn't too surprised and didn't try again but just stared down at the other leader. We stared at each other for a while, until Cody came back, two Jedi Padawans with him.

"All the hostages appear to be alright." Cody said. "I had all of them report to the Sassy's infirmary. I'll debrief them later."

"Very good Cody. Have some of the men put him in lockup. He'll be taken to the Senate for a trial." I turned to the Jedi as several of the men took him away. "Now, can you tell me what happened?"

The older one, who wasn't much younger than Anakin, introduced himself and went onto explain the battle with the younger one interrupted every so often and that Grievous had murdered both of their masters. My heart sank at the thought that the monster had killed two more Jedi, leaving two young ones alone.

"It's alright." I assured both of them. "Cody escort them back to the Sassy and get some rest."

They both protested especially the younger one, but once I leveled them with a look, they soon headed off. I began to see about the clean up when Anakin reported back telling me he had fought Grievous who had, once again, managed to escape. We found the Masters who had been killed and placed their bodies with the rest of the dead to take back to the Temple for a proper burial.

Anakin and his troops soon arrived, adding to the mess and confusion of ships and soldiers. It took some doing but we finally got it all sorted. Heading back to the Sassy, I settled into my office off the bridge as Cody gave his final report.

"Everything is off planet and stored in one of the ships. Several troop transports, arc 170's and y-wings were damaged but both of the Jedi's flagships are undamaged for the most part. I have a report of all the details of the damage as well as causality reports."

I thought about that for a moment before speaking, taking the reports from him. "Now, Master Langeston's captain was killed correct?" At his nod, I ventured on. "Have Rex report to me. He should be able to take the majority of her crew as well as the injured and dead back to the Temple."

"And the Fearless General?" Cody said after I lapsed into silence for a long moment.

"Anakin can have that command for now." I said thinking it was about time he had his own flag ship. "Both of us will stay here for the moment." I was about to tell him to take some rest when the door chimed. "Come in."

Anakin stepped into the room, dirt smeared across his face, testament to his recent fight. "Do we have our orders?"

"Not yet." I told him. "Though I need you to go over to the Fearless and take over for the moment." At his perked up look, I added. "I'll see if the rest of the Council will agree to let you keep her."

"She's a good ship." Anakin immediately agreed. "Can I get Rex too?"

"I'm sure you can." I said, sitting back in my chair. "I am sending him back with Master Langeston's ship first."

"Alright." Anakin agreed. "And the padawans?"

"Cody, have you seem them lately?"

He shook his head. "Once the medical droid cleared them, they were given quarters and been there since then I assume."

I nodded. "Tell them I will be sending for them shortly, I just need to contact the Council first. Make sure the men get some rest and that includes you."

"Yes sir." With that Cody left.

Anakin and I were able to discuss the battle for a brief moment when Rex reported in and he was soon on his way back to Coruscant. We finished that discussion before I put a connection through to the old folks home to reach Masters Windu and Yoda. We talked about what happened for some time before they all looked at each other.

"Obi-Wan if you could keep track of Jared Motley . He is getting pretty close to being knighted so if you could measure if he is ready or not." Windu said.

"What about Ahsoka, Master Langeston took her as her padawan not more than a month ago?"
"Handle that young Skywalker should be able to." Master Yoda put in.

"Wait a moment." Anakin, who had been a silent observer, put up a protest. "Me take a padawan? I don't think so."

"At least keep an eye on her temporarily." Windu put in with authority. "We can work on something more permanent later."

I could tell Anakin was still unhappy about it but agreed. "Yes Master."

Once the transmission was ended, I turned to Anakin. "You don't think you are ready to take a padawan?"
"A padawan would only slow me down." Anakin argued.

"Anakin, teaching is a privilege and it is our responsibility to teach the next generation of Jedi." I couldn't help but add this next part. "Besides, have you not said that you have thought of taking Sasha someday?"

"Yea, but that's what, at least another eight to ten years. I'll be old by then."

"You will at least think about taking her on permanently." I inquired, completely ignoring his old joke.

"I will, but don't get your hopes up." Anakin said, still trying to get his point across.

Seeing he was not going to change his mind right now, I let that drop. "Well, I guess we better send for them and inform them of what's going on."

"You really want to take on another padawan?" Anakin asked as I reached for my comlink to page them. "Don't you have enough with the war, the Council and a wife and daughter?"

"If he isn't knighted in a few weeks it would only be for another two months or so." I told him. "Motley has been a padawan Master Colbert has felt is ready. So, it's really not that much."

"Meaning, he didn't get into as much trouble as I did."

"Something like that." I couldn't help but tease him. "Now, let's get back to work."

We had called the padawans into my office and they both stood solemnly in front of the desk where I sat. Anakin was leaning against the wall behind me, his arms crossed his chest.

"What's going to happen to us?" Motley asked quietly.

I sighed. "You will stay with me for a while. I'm not sure if your Master had informed you or not, but you are in consideration of becoming a Jedi Knight. This way I can help the Council decide if you need to be reassigned to another master or be knighted."

The young man bowed slightly with a yes Master and remained silent. I then turned to the younger one, barely twelve years old. "Now Ahsoka, your case is different. Master Skywalker has agreed to take you on for at least the present time, until a permanent arrangement can be worked out."

Ahsoka nodded. "Yes Master."

I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose, wishing these two young ones were not going through what I gone through, especially the older one. "I know nothing I can say will change what happened or how you feel, but I'm sorry that I hadn't gotten here sooner or we may not be having this meeting. But it did happen and we are going to deal with this as best as we can." I paused before continuing on. "I won't be assigning any of you to any duties for the next several days to give you some time to adjust." I looked up and gazed at them for a moment before continuing on. "Please know that if either of you needs to talk, my door is always open."

They acknowledged their thanks and I dismissed them. I sighed as I watched the two of them leave the room.

Due to the Separatist activity in the area, we were commanded to patrol the space lines. Three sectors bordered here and it could determine who ruled the entire system. The men took turns taking the smaller ships out to patrol further down the lanes, Anakin and Ahsoka often going out with them. From what I could tell, despite a war, she was upbeat and outspoken. She had been assigned to Master Langeston for only a month, having not really bonded with her, making this transition much easier for her and was looking forward to learning from Anakin. However, when Anakin complained about her being a free spirit and not listening to him, I couldn't help but burst into laughter. Anakin didn't think it was so funny.

The ship lanes we were guarding remained quiet and the Separatist were pulled somewhere else. I was expecting the Council to pull us to another battle but we were ordered to stay. I could tell the men were getting bored and wanting to get back into the action but there was a reason why we were sitting out here. That reason came a couple of weeks later when Grievous struck again only a system away. He nearly destroyed one of our outposts, destroying a small village in the process and moving onward to the next planet in the sector. Our orders were simple, but quite difficult. Stop General Grievous. As our fleet flew through the hyperspace lanes, Anakin and I made our battle plan. It wasn't the most sound, counting on things that might not happen, but with the time and resources we had, this was the best we could do. The rest the Force would have to handle.

Quote from Charmed, we've been watching it lately on Amazon Instant, from season four when Phoebe is queen with Cole.

Phoebe: "Can you do anything about this thunder? 'Cause it's making me nuts."

The Seer: "I have no sway over the weather. I do have a friend who works with the wind, but she's out of town."

Ashokanerd: Meagan can certainly be like a momma grizzly bear, which can be a good thing but it also gets her into trouble. Cad Bane was fun to write since our story was different than the show's version. It's been a challenge and quite fun as well to work story arcs or characters into the story and there will be more to come. As for Ashoka, she will be more of a younger teen but she'll grow as the story progresses. We do hope you enjoy meeting her for the first time thought it wasn't that much but there will be more of her in the next chapter. She and Sasha are going to be….interesting…

The Song Bird Still Sings: Meagan certainly turned Bane into a wimp, but you really don't want to mess with mothers sometimes. We hoped you enjoyed meeting Ashoka in this chapter and there will be more of her as the story continues. We have many surprises in mind. Thanks again.

Sharnorasian Empire: That story sounds good, but we really haven't had too much time to do so, but we are glad you found some other stories that you like. As for Bane, he certainly likes to cause trouble to say the least and unfortunately he will be back at some point. Thanks again and we hope you liked this chapter.

Phygmalion: Thank you for such a well thought of review in reaction to the last chapter. We haven't read those particular books but certainly see the point that just because you have power to do something doesn't make it right. Something we ourselves didn't completely see in our writing of this story arc. So thank you for pointing it out to us. We hope Meagan and Obi-Wan discussing it a little in this chapter addresses those concerns some. Thanks again and we hope you continue to read our story.
