Chapter 5

.

The night of October 28th Amanda was home, alone, or so she thought. She was texting her friends, perpetuating her theory that Mary made up the whole story about being harassed by a serial killer. Amanda enjoyed this, the power of deciding who was popular and who wasn't. WHo could be harassed with impunity. Most of her so called "friends" like Amy and Kalil, they weren't true friends, but her approval was addictive to them, and Amanda was powerful in that sense. But on this night, she got a call. In her haste, hoping this was her boyfriend Greg, she answered the phone.

.

Amanda: Hey Greg.

Caller: Who's Greg

Amanda: Who's this?

Caller: Just someone who wants to talk to you.

Amanda: Is this Mary?

Caller: What if it is? Didn't you claim she faked her conversation with me?

Amanda: I know you did for attention. Figured those religious parents of yours would be more forgiving of the fact that you like girls if you were harassed by a serial killer.

Caller: Not to split heirs, but to qualify as a serial killer, you have to kill people, on three or more seperate occassions.

Amanda: And you don't have the guts to actually kill anyone.

Caller: I haven't yet, but every psychopath has their first.

Amanda: Maybe I should tell my father, the cop, how you're harassing me. But maybe prison, with all those women, sounds appealing to you.

Caller: Not particularly, maybe I should kill you, eliminate witnesses.

Amanda: That's it, I'm calling 911.

Caller: You won't.

Amanda: What makes you think that?

Caller: Because then I'll tell them what you and Greg do at that old abandoned barn in the woods.

.

The mention of the old barn visibly shook Amanda, but she tried to conceal it.

.

Amanda: So Greg and I had sex there, no big deal.

Caller: Please, if it were just that it would be nothing. But Greg told me everything you two did there.

Amanda: He wouldn't. He'd have more to lose than me.

Caller: Maybe, but you'd be amazed what people will say under torture. Truth is, the two of you are guilty of more crimes than I am.

Amanda: What do you want?

Caller: To play a game, I'll even give you a choice about the stakes. I'll ask you one trivia question, about horror movies. If you get it right, I'll destroy the evidence I have against the two of you.

Amanda: And if I get it wrong?

Caller: That's up to you. Option A, I turn over this evidence to the police. Option B, I still destroy the evidence implicating you, but I kill Greg. What will it be?

Amanda: You will really destroy the evidence against me?

Caller: I'm a psychopath of my word.

Amanda: Then yes, do that.

Caller: And risk your boyfriend's life?

Amanda: Just ask the question.

Caller: Very well. In the 1941 movie "the Wolfman" who played Larry Talbot's werewolf sire.

Amanda: I'm not sure. It was either Boris Karloff or Bela Lugosi.

Caller: If you don't know you might as well guess.

Amanda: Karloff.

Caller: So close, it was Bela Lugosi. But like I said, I'm a psychopath of my word. I'll destroy the evidence against you, and even murder Greg so he can't implicate you later.

.

The caller hung up. Amanda could now tell it was done with a burner phone. She tried to regain her composure, had to think what to do next. It seemed the safest course would be to do nothing. If she called the police, even if they caught this person, what would stop them from revealing what went on in that barn. And Amanda really didn't want to spend the rest of her life in prison. She would miss Greg, but she decided that her life was more important than his. Tomorrow at school she would have to put on a good poker face, and act horrified when they told her he was dead. For now Amanda just had to go about her business and try to forget what a psychopath may or may not be doing to her boyfriend. She tried not to imagine these things, but soon she wouldn't have to imagine it. This person snuck into her house in the dark, and while she was distracted they snuck up behind her and plunged the knife into the back of Amanda's neck. Amanda now saw this person, dressed as Ghostface, like the numerous serial killers who once stalked Woodsboro. Amanda was too weak to fight back, she could only beg for mercy.

.

Amanda: Please don't kill me.

Ghostface: I am a psychopath of my word, I destroyed the evidence against you. But letting you live was never part of our deal. Every serial killer has their first, you get to be mine.
