Chapter Eighty Seven
**Meagan's Point of View**
After spending several days in hyperspace, going around battles we arrived back on Coruscant. Much to Obi-Wan's displeasure, Anakin and the two padawans handled checking in and unloading, while Obi-Wan and I headed back to the Temple. Despite his grumblings that he was healing fine, I practically dragged him to the healers.
By the time the examination was over, he was quite grumpy. Especially when the healer agreed he was healing, but still needed to rest and limit his activities until the ribs finished healing and for his body to replenish the blood loss. I saw him back to our quarters, getting him settled in before leaving to get Sasha.
Thankfully my husband was in a better mood when I returned and Sasha was more than happy to have both of us home. As I put something together for dinner, I could hear her telling him what she learned while we were gone.
"Where is Uncle Anakin?" She asked sometime after dinner. "Did he not come home too?"
I sighed as Obi-Wan explained that Anakin was completing his duties as well as seeing to his new padawan. At the last part, Sasha looked a little hurt. Even at the age of four, she knew what that meant as she saw how close her own father and padawan were as well as other Jedi teams around the temple.
Wanting to comfort my baby, I hugged her close. "Anakin will always love and care for you, no matter what."
She nodded, trying to be brave, seemingly to accept that answer, at least for the moment.
Her brave face only lasted another day as I picked her up in the afternoon. We were walking through the corridors hand in hand, with her telling me about her day when we saw Anakin and Ahsoka. They were sitting at one of the tables in a common area, obviously working on something as their heads were bent close together. Sasha sniffed as Anakin placed a hand on her shoulder.
She suddenly let go of my hand and bolted down the hall. Not wanting to cause a scene I quickly headed after her. I found her a little ways down the hall, hiding in a corner. The sound of a few tears broke my heart. Once reaching her, I pulled her close, wanting to ease her hurt. "Come here, Sasha." Eventually I pulled back, leading her back home.
Sasha moped about most of the evening, despite my trying to cheer her up. Of course it did not help Anakin had not been able to stop by to see her. Had he not been tied up with the Council with battle plan meetings that evening, I would have threatened never to feed him again unless he stopped by soon. It took time to settle Sasha to bed, but finally she slept peacefully. Feeling quite drained myself I took a hot bath and soon sought my own bed.
"Mummy." Sasha shook my shoulder some time before dawn. "Mummy, teddy and I can't sleep."
I wiped my eyes as Sasha scrambled onto the bed. "Okay, Sasha, you can stay here if you be quiet and go back to sleep."
"Yes mummy." She cuddled close, whispering. "I miss him."
I kissed her forehead. "I know you do, honey, it will be alright."
She did not look like she believed me but thankfully soon fell asleep. I glanced over to find my husband asleep, his injuries still healing, making him sleep more and deeper than usual. Sighing, it was a bit before I followed my family.
The funeral for the two masters was held the following day. Obi-Wan and I stood together, my hand clasping his. Jared stood toward the front, a fellow Padawan by his side, obviously a good friend. Ahsoka was only a couple feet from him, Anakin standing directly behind her, his hands on her shoulders. Obi-Wan watched Jared carefully. He had not wanted to intrude into the young man's grief but knew one of these days he would. We left the great hall in silence and I couldn't help but wonder how many more funerals we would attend before this was over. Obi-Wan seemed to know what I was thinking, his face nearly grim, telling me it would be much more than any of us would have liked.
Later as I tucked Sasha into bed, Obi-Wan left our quarters, knowing it was time to talk to Jared. I know everything happens for a reason and I couldn't help but think that Obi-Wan losing Qui-Gon finally served a purpose to help this young Jedi deal with his own loss.
Over the next several days, Jared seemed to be doing much better, whatever Obi-Wan said really seemed to have helped. Being only on light duty, Obi-Wan's injuries were healing remarkably well, much to my relief. Sasha, despite liking to seeing her father a lot more, did not seem to be doing all that much better, still moping about at times.
"Let's go see what daddy is doing shall we?" I asked Sasha as we walked along the corridors. "I think he is sparing with some of the older children."
She immediately perked up, as I thought she might, hoping this might improve her mood. When we entered the gym, it contained initiates who if it hadn't been for the war would have become padawans, several padawans as well as a few knights, including Anakin as well as my husband. Ahsoka was standing with a girl about her age, watching.
Anakin was sitting on the bleachers, intently watching two of the youngsters dueling as Obi-Wan was working with a couple others across the room.
Before I could stop her, Sasha hurried over to Anakin, proceeded to climb into his lap, speaking quite clearly. "Hello Uncle Anakin."
I winced, seeing the glare she leveled at Ahsoka. She knew better than that, to act like this in front of other Jedi. Practically the entire Temple was aware of the close relationships our family shared, but that did not give Sasha the right to not respect both Anakin and Ahsoka as Jedi.
Anakin who been busy lately was probably not aware of what was going on, looked completely surprised. However, he hid it well as he gave her a quick hug before sitting her next to him.
"You can watch the padawans dueling with me." He told her as Obi-Wan and I exchanged glances as Sasha was looking quite smug.
Later, as I was making dinner, I saw Obi-Wan come in. He glanced at me before turning to watch Sasha who was coloring in the living area. He went to sit next to her, soon reaching over to take the red crayon lying right next to her hand. Sasha watched him as she resumed using her other favorite color, purple.
All was silent for a few minutes when I heard Obi-Wan speak as they continued to color together. "Sasha, about what happened this afternoon, I know you know to behave better than what you did. Jedi, even if he is your uncle deserve more respect."
I turned at his words and watched for a moment, well knowing he was going to talk with her as before leaving the gym we managed to have a quick conversation on our daughter's behavior.
"I know Daddy." She said quietly, like she was about to cry. "He didn't come see him, he always does. Does he not care for me anymore?"
I put down the dishes I was holding about to go to her, when Obi-Wan spoke again.
"Come here Sasha." He reached over, pulling her into his lap. "Your mother, uncle and I will always love and care for you, even when we have our duties as Jedi." He paused looking down into her eyes and once he saw he had her attention, continued. "I want you to listen to me very carefully. Anakin does have a padawan now, Ahsoka will require his time and attention, but he will never forget you. You are not being replaced."
I could feel she was still upset and so could Obi-Wan as he continued to talk with her. "In your classes, you have been learning a lot of Jedi skills as well as skills that will help you as you grow, like reading, writing, sharing." He called to him the red crayon and held it in front of her. "I borrowed your favorite color but it didn't get lost and came back to you correct?"
Sasha nodded.
"There are times in life when we have to share our belongings, our time, people we care about. Anakin will spend time with Ahsoka or other friends, or be on long missions, but you will always be very special to him. Do you see what I am saying?"
"Yes Daddy." She nodded, cuddled a bit closer to him. "I still miss him."
He kissed the top of her head holding her closer as it took every ounce of my will not to go charging in there to comfort her. "I know you do, but maybe I can see if he can't come over sometime soon, okay?"
"Okay." She perked up a little at that before the two went back to their coloring.
**Obi-Wan's Point of View**
It was after dinner that same night Meagan and I talked about what happened. She was understandable upset at Sasha's hurt. "Honey, you can't prevent her from ever being hurt."
"I know." She sighed as she laid her head on my chest as we settled into bed together, glad my injuries were nearly healed, enough where it could take the pressure of Meagan snuggled up against me. "I have to say you handled it well, I think she at least understands it better."
"Thank you and we will have to see if it really took or not."
"If Anakin can come over to 'play' sometime soon, I think it will."
"So do I." We both lay together in the quiet, both hoping it would smooth this out. Luckily the following day, I was able to explain to Anakin what was happening, which after Sasha's performance was not too surprised and said he would come over some more. I did not think he thought Sasha would react the way she did and honestly I did not either.
So over the next couple days he did stop by to see her a few times, which really helped. Both Meagan and I could tell she was still not sure about Ahsoka but had been behaving when she saw them in the halls together.
So, several evenings later, as I was contemplating this, I headed back to our quarters from helping teach a class. Tonight, Padme was hosting a small dinner party with a few friends that included both Sasha and Ahsoka. Wondering if it was going to be a complete disaster I palmed upon the door and found Anakin and Sasha playing together on the floor with remnants of a snack on the table.
"Hi Daddy." Sasha rose, coming over to me, throwing her arms around my legs.
"Hi, Sasha." I smiled down at her before wiping the crumbs from her face. "Did you and Uncle Anakin have a snack?"
She nodded as I glanced up to see a sheepish looking Anakin. "We just finished our milk and cookies."
I raised an eyebrow. "Oh, did you?"
She nodded. "I asked him and he said it was okay."
"Sasha, next time, do not ask for cookies right before dinner." I thought about saying more but decided to let it go. "I want you to go wash your hands and face. Then change into the outfit your mother laid out on your bed."
She scampered off and I turned to Anakin. "Milk and cookies?"
He gave a shrug as he threw a few toys into the basket. "With everything going on, I thought it would be fun."
I sighed as I headed back to the bedroom, Anakin trailing after me. "You could have had fun without spoiling her dinner."
"I know."
Heading into the closet I pulled out a clean set of robes. "Anakin, you should not spoil her."
He grinned a bit. "I know, but she's having a hard time with my training Ahsoka, I just thought it would help."
I didn't speak for a moment or two as I pulled off my tunic then putting on a clean one. "I know she is, but allowing her to con you into doing something she knows she is not supposed to have is not the best way to go about it."
Anakin crossed his arms over his chest. "I know but it's so hard when she looks up at you and her lips starts trembling….."
Slipping into the some clean pants, I couldn't help but chuckle. "I find myself giving in too, but it is not the best for her."
"I know." Anakin sighed before changing the tables around. "So, how are going to handle sibling rivalry when you and Meagan have more children?"
I laughed as I put my dirty clothes into the hamper. "Anakin, we are at war and there is a sith after my daughter, you really think having a baby right now is the wisest thing to do?"
He rolled his eyes in typical young man style. "Of course I didn't mean now, but after all this is over."
I didn't even have to think about it as I pulled my boots on. "I think you and Sasha are more than enough to handle and if I take on another padawan at some point."
Anakin was about to say something else when Sasha came in, wearing her dress. She twirled around before curtsying.
"You look pretty as a princess." Anakin said as Sasha beamed.
I couldn't help but smile, pleased to see her really smiling again. "You do look very nice in that dress. Come on, we need to brush your hair." I took her hand, leading her out of the room. "Anakin do you not need to dress yourself?"
"Ah, yes, I guess I will meet you there." He kissed Sasha's cheek before leaving.
Several minutes later, as I was working on her hair, Meagan came home. "Sasha and I are just about ready."
"Let me go freshen up." Meagan leaned down kissing Sasha's cheek. "You look very pretty."
"Thank you Mummy." She said grinning.
It wasn't too much later that we left for Padme's. After getting through security of the building, we headed up the lift. Dorme greeted us at the door and we were just heading in when Senator Bail Organa and his wife Breha, arrived. Mon Mothma arrived only a few minutes later.
"Sasha, you are such a pretty young lady." Padme came up to greet us, hugging Sasha, ushering us in as Anakin and Ahsoka were already there.
Dinner was a good affair and with a young one there, current events only strayed into the conversations a few times. Meagan and I had not been able to spend much time with the Senators with matters that were not associated with Senate or Jedi affairs, so it was nice to meet with them on more of a personal level. Thankfully Sasha was well behaved, charming the others, but not really addressing Ahsoka. At least it was better than her previous behavior, but she did claim Anakin's lap moments after we adjourned to the living area for coffee and dessert.
**Meagan's Point of view**
Thankfully over the next few weeks, giving Jared a bit of time to grieve, Obi-Wan didn't leave the Temple much. Anakin and Ahsoka had been sent on several routine scouting missions and they were beginning to work as a team. Obi-Wan and I thought those missions might help Anakin agree to take her on permanently, a decision he was going to have to make soon. Sasha was enjoying having both of us home, but was trying to accept the fact Ahsoka wasn't going anywhere but that her uncle wasn't going to forget her because of her. She had not pulled any more stunts but was still clingy to Anakin, especially if Ahsoka was in the room.
On another score, when on planet, when not with either Ahsoka or Sasha, Anakin spent time with Padme. If the glances and words they exchanged at the dinner party were any indication, an engagement wasn't that far off. I couldn't help but smile at thinking of what a joyous day it would be, especially with the growing darkness, a celebration of love.
Breaking my thoughts, I soon felt my husband slip his arms around me, making me feel warm and cherished. "How did the meeting go?"
"As well as it could have." He didn't go into great detail, obviously not wanting to get into it. "I will have Jared for a few more months. The Council agreed he just needs a little more time."
I nodded, leaning back against him. "You two aren't going anywhere anytime soon are you?"
He sighed before answering. "Not sure. Several fronts have been a bit quiet lately, so we'll see what happens."
It wasn't what I was expecting, but I would take him being home anytime I could.
"Come on love, it's getting late, we should be getting to bed. I'm sure Sasha will be awake before the sun comes up."
"She didn't get that from me." I couldn't help but tease him as he led me to our bedroom.
Obi-Wan laughed before leaning down to kiss me. "Of course it is always my fault."
"Of course." I laughed with him as we entered our room.
From The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey, enjoy! This was one of our favorite scenes. We really liked Battle of the Five Armies, the last look of Middle Earth!
Bilbo Baggins: Why don't we have a game of riddles? And if I win, you show me the way out.
Gollum: [talking to himself] And if he looses, what then?
Gollum: Well precious, if he looses, then we eats it! [giggles]
Gollum: [turns to Bilbo] If Baggins looses, we eats it all.
Bilbo Baggins: Fair enough...
Guest: We hope you enjoyed this chapter and hopefully the next chapter won't take as long!
Princess Lermionndriel: Thanks! We are so glad you have enjoyed the story so far.
Rayne: Don't worry, this story is not abandoned, it's just sometimes hard to do! Thank you for such a great compliment! I hope you enjoyed this chapter!
Two80: Meagan and Obi-Wan have been a fun couple to put together, how they balance each other, despite it taking them a while to work through their issues. But that is more true to life. Their relationship has been most of the story's focus and it will continue. Thank you again for reading and reviewing. We hope you enjoy the rest of the story!
Kill3rdarren: We are glad you have liked reading our story and shared it with us. We have some exciting things to come with the war, so we hope you stay tuned. Thanks again!
NavyGirl: Sasha has been a fun character to create, balancing what a normal toddler is like, what a Jedi toddler could be like and hoping to come out with aspects of both! Also, integrating Meagan and Sasha into the films was a lot of fun in trying to change things just enough where it felt like AOTC but did not feel like we were just repeating everything. We appreciate that you saw it and enjoyed what we did. We hope you stay tuned for more. Thanks again.
lotrlover2931: We are so pleased you found our stories and have enjoyed both parts one and two so much. Thanks again and we hope you continued to enjoy our saga.
Coka Cookie Cola: We also went to Star Wars in Concert and had an absolutely great time! We were close enough to see Anthony Daniels and hear the actual music. Here's to hoping they do another tour sometime soon! We think it's great you found our stories from the concert pictures and have enjoyed them as well. Thanks again and hope you liked this last chapter.
ahsokanerd: Thank you for letting us know about the change with the age of the padawans. We were not aware of it, but it makes complete sense, though it would be too late to change our story. Thanks again for your insight, we always appreciate it. We hope you enjoyed this chapter.
Ari'Lizbeth: We're sorry that it has been a while since we last updated the story but we were tied up with other things and now able to work on this chapter, not to mention we kept getting stuck in a few parts! We hope you continue to like our story. Thank you again for reviewing
.
