Kara sat at her seat, anxiously picking at her nails. What if she didn't like Daxam? What if the Daxamites didn't like her? What if everything her parents had told her about the Daxamites were true?
Looking over her shoulder, she could see the same worried expression on her parents' faces.
Mon-El walked over to her, putting a hand on her shoulder, "Are you okay, Kara?"
Her heart skipped a beat, as she nodded. She dared not tell him what she thought of his planet, and prayed that her opinion of the Daxamites would be wrong.
Mon-El gave her as comforting of a smile as he could muster. He knew that she was worried. His hand inched closer to hers, and Kara's hand felt warm as he touched it. Kara seemed to relax for a moment before she pulled her hand back.
Kara lay back on the bed that she was sitting on, and, in seconds, fell asleep.
She awoke to her parents shaking her awake. Sitting up, she stared out the window at the reddened city before her. Queen Rhea smiled as she opened the door, "Welcome to Daxam."
The Daxamite guards helped her down the stairs slowly, as she gestured to their guests. Alura smiled, but she kindly took their hands as they offered to help her, as did the rest of the household. Kara, on the other hand, looked concerned, asking them in Daxamese, "Are you okay? You seem really tired."
She took in every detail. Looking at the guards dressed in a white-grey robe with the family crest of the Royal Family upon it, a circle with what seemed to be a V-shaped symbol.
[A/N: Not real, created for the purpose of this story.]
Kara had always imagined Daxam to be a place where people splurged, somewhere that they never worked, but partied day and night.
She was welcomed into the Palace. A shining, tall structure. Alura looked a tad uncomfortable, and as they walked in, they noticed that it was the Throne Room, and, as Queen Rhea had mentioned, was the size of their home, only slightly smaller.
They were treated to a feast of dishes, which were, in fact, quite scrumptious. Though they felt that it had a tad too much flavour, they never spoke it out loud. Kara shoved her hands into her pockets. She donned a light blue dress with the 'S' of the House of El's coat-of-arms embroidered upon it in a darker shade of blue. She remembered what Queen Rhea had said about white clothes in a family. This was to preserve her family's dignity, as well as to respect the Daxamites' traditions.
She noted the stares of everyone around her, and her mouth clamped shut. Grabbing Alura's outstretched hand, Kara kept her head down for the rest of the day.
Mon-El took note of his new friend's every movement, how she didn't act like how she did back on Krypton. There, she was everyone's friend. Here, she was no one.
He walked up to Kara, "Hey."
"Hey."
"You look lovely in that dress."
The ends of her lips tugged upwards, as she cracked a small smile. He wanted nothing more than to make her feel at home.
"Today we are participating in a Daxamite tradition - the Transition."
Kara nodded. She knew exactly what he was talking about.
"Where you guys celebrate the stages of modernising."
"Kara! Let's go!"
Kara skipped out, her footsteps lighter than they were before. She grabbed her Mother's hand as Alura brought her to the place.
The Daxamites danced around the fire, wearing what would be considered inappropriate on Krypton. Clothes made from plants and animal skin. Even Mon-El looked uncomfortable.
Queen Rhea smiled at the Kryptonians. She knew how they felt, personally and politically, about the partial nakedness of them all. [A/N: I'm so sorry!]
They moved on to the afternoon, where they dressed in slightly more modern clothing, something that looked like ancient garments and robes. They ate food that tasted strange, but something that activated every taste bud that they had.
They transitioned to wearing something more modern, but visibly different from anything that they would be spotted wearing now. They sipped something that tasted similar to Thoni Tea and ate food that seemed to be a fusion of both Kryptonian and Daxamite flavours. The time of peace.
Finally, as they approached midnight, they partied at clubs and bars, drinking wine and downing beer.
The Kryptonians were not very surprised that it was a party in the end, but they could not deny that they had fun that day. Kara seemed more uplifted, especially since she had spoken with many of the children, the younger ones more than willing to talk, but the older ones occasionally shunning her.
Her attitude got her several new friends in one day, more friends that Mon-El had made in his entire life.
Before she left, Mon-El gave her a metallic piece with the sigil of his family carved into it, and Kara gave him the broadest smile she had ever given anyone.
"I never approved of your ways before, but monarchy seems to make your subjects happy, and I guess that's all that really matters."
"Likewise, Alura. Likewise."
The children stepped into the room upon hearing that they had been summoned.
Queen Rhea looked at them, beaming, "Alura and I have come to a consensus. When you come of age, you two will be married to keep the peace of our two planets."
Mon-El just stood there, his face slightly flushed, his mouth agape.
Kara looked appalled, "Shouldn't I choose who I want to wed?"
Alura saw how distraught Kara looked and smiled, "Please just agree to this. This is for both our planets. The people who live on them."
Kara pondered, "Fine."
The planet shook beneath their feet.
"Kara, I want you to take Kal, care for him on Earth."
Kara nodded her agreement, "Yes, Mother, Father. I won't fail Kal-El, or you."
She smiled as she climbed into the pod. As the glass lowered over her head, she stared in front of her, where her Uncle Jor-El launched Kal in his pod.
A lurch. Then she was in hypersleep.
The pod was lined up, its path headed for Earth.
"Listen to me. We are sending you to a planet called Earth. When you reach, locate Kara and live together. Both of you."
Mon-El's fingers rubbed against the necklace that Kara had given him. He looked at his mother, "Okay. I will."
[A/N: They are heading for Earth! I know this chapter was rushed, at least it felt so to me, but I had no idea of what they would do on Daxam, so I wrote whatever I thought of. The plot here is quite vague, but once they are on Earth, I would also make references to the comics as well. I really just wanted for them to reach Earth, and I honestly feel relieved that it's finally happening. I hope you go on to enjoy the story!]
