Chapter 18
.
Sydney had seen a number of Ghostface's over the years. She had seen and heard of one Ghostface betraying and murdering their own partner. But never had she heard of one Ghostface killing another to protect some innocent civilian. What Dewey told her about the attack at mrs Landingham's house suggested to her that Christina was right, this was someone who considered themselves to be a vigilantie like Dexter Morgan. That still raised the question of why this killer was going after her. But it was enough to relapse and get drunk on this October 30th. It was now 3am, and she had early passed out, when this call came.
.
Sydney: Hello?
Ghostface: Hello Sydney.
Sydney: You, I heard you saved an old woman tonight.
Ghostface: Like I said, you have to keep the audience guessing, and it seemed the best way to shock them.
Sydney: I've noticed that you only seem to believe in revenge.
Ghostface: We have that in common I guess.
Sydney: I don't murder people. Occassionally I've had to kill to protect myself or others.
Ghostface: And all those people you've tried to get the death penalty for.
Sydney: All murderers, and a couple of child molestors in Louisianna.
Ghostface: And you went to their executions.
Sydney: To provide comfort for the families of their victims. I've also fought for mandatory DNA testing, to make sure only guilty people are executed.
Ghostface: We have our preferred victims, but the truth is we both enjoy murdering people.
Sydney: If you only kill guilty people, why Amanda?
Ghostface: Ever hear of Tamika Sanchez?
Sydney: No.
Ghostface: Ask Dewey. Last summer she and Greg had a very brief affair. Amanda got jealous, she and Greg plotted her murder. Greg's father taught him how to get away with murder, made it seem like she just dissapeared. Amanda even said she could tolerate Greg cheating on her, except for Tamika being african-american and hispanic.
Sydney: Is that why you killed them? Was Tamika your friend, family?
Ghostface: Now why do I have to have known Tamika? Maybe I'm just a big believer in retributive justice.
Sydney: So why do you want me dead?
Ghostface: In our recent conversations, you've never once asked me to not kill you.
Sydney: Do you expect me to beg? In my experience that doesn't work with psychopaths.
Ghostface: When I called Mary, you didn't know I was a killer, for all you knew I was a hmophobic troll who was willing to stop short of murder. The truth is, you want to die.
Sydney: You're insane.
Ghostface: Quite possibly, but you still aren't asking. You know that you'll never feel safe again, and you want it over with. Ofcourse, I could be wrong. I'll make you a deal, leave town, and I won't kill you. If you're out of town by sunset, you'll be safe from me. If not, I'll assume I was right and give you the death that you secretly want.
