Chapter 21

.

Despite everything, including a possible serial killer on the loose, the children and teens of Woodsboro still celebrated Halloween. The local school arranged for "Trunk of treating" in the school parking lot this afternoon. This was similar to trick or treating, except done on a more confined location. It was done for safety reasons in many communities, with so many children wandering at night it was easy for child-molestors to abduct victims. It wasn't even the first time that the parents of Woodsboro preferred this over the normal trick or treating. The teens were throwing their usual Halloween night party at a suppossedly haunted house. Back in the 1950s two teen lovers died in this house on Halloween night. Theories regarding their death circulated ever since. The police at the time claimed that the boy murdered his girlfriend in a jealous rage then shot himself. However some believed the police covered up the truth, that the gun was found in the girl's hand. This would have made it impossible for him to kill her then himself. It probably was no coincidence that he was black and she was white, and at the time it was much easier for people to believe he was the aggressor. But perhaps she either killed him and then herself, or it was a suicide pact. Every year the teens of Woodsboro held a Halloween party at this house. A part of Dewey longed for the days when this suicide pact was the biggest massacre in Woodsboro history. Tonight, at least ost of the teenagers would be in one place that could be watched, as oppossed to several Halloween parties spread throught the town. Sydney and Dewey kept watch at this party. They looked the other way on drugs and alcohol, as long as it was all consensual. Amy came here with Kalil. Sydney was suprised to see Amy here, after all she'd been through. But Amy said she didn't want to live her life in fear, Sydney respected that. And apparently she trusted him. Maybe it was just a coincidence that Kalil and this Ghostface used similar words. Mary and Christina were also here at this party, but they seemed to be avoiding each other. Finally these two went outside for a conversation.

.

Christina: You don't like me much do you?

Mary: You accused me of being a serial killer.

Christina: I put you on a fairly long list of suspects. In case you forgot I also put one or two dead guys and, oh yeah, myself.

Mary: Maybe you are the killer.

Christina: Maybe I am, but you have a more believable motive, to avege your father's sins.

Mary: And your motive?

Christina: Maybe I'm just a psychopath who enjoys killing.

Mary: I don't believe that. Murderers and psychopaths are products of their environment.

Christina: Some of us are just born bad. That's how the world sees us anyway.

Mary: I used to assume my father was a good man who would never hurt a defenseless girl. I don't make assumptions anymore.

Christina: Why'd you even come here, this doesn't seem like your kind of fun?

Mary: Maybe there's someone here I wanted to see.

Christina: What are you saying?

.

With that Mary kissed Christina. She feared that Christina would pull away, might even slap her. But instead Christina continued kissing Mary. It seemed that their anger at each other was just masked sexual attraction.
