The Sleeping Sleuth was in France.
For one, there was a note on the door that said he was travelling to France and didn't know when he would he back.
Number 2, there was video footage of him being checked at the airport.
And 3, less than a week later, he was on the front page of a Franch newspaper after he had solved a cold case.
The translation of the article described him as an absolute genius, it singing nothing but praises for him, even described how he was able to understand Franch well and communicate through paper in fluent French.
Japan may have given up on him but the international market hadn't.
Those outside had to see for themselves if the rumours of him becoming a moron were true, only to be delighted when they found out this was not the case.
Kogoru went on to solve another smaller case and demonstration on live tv with a translator behind him, the first rules of being a detective.
Now usually, Japan wouldn't really care what he did when he want abroad until they had to look up his cases, however, he had made the news for his crazy fast solving skills.
The theory was indeed proven correct and many people heard the words of a genius that day.
More people than normal we're paying attention to what he was doing abroad and to make matters more interesting, he had completely disabled his phone.
Perhaps he stopped using his phone because it would have beer ringing nonstop after what he did?
Every he went, Japan heard nothing but awe and it made people wonder if he was truly back in the game.
However, only a few people knew that he was never in the game, to begin with.
Then the news that he was coming back to Japan reached sharp ears and Kogoru did in fact turn his laptop and phone back on, only to be hit with ringing.
"Hello?" He said.
"Kogoru!" said Inspector Megure. "I've been trying to get a hold of you for almost two weeks"
"Well, I was in France and other places so I was very busy," he said. "And right now, I'm still am. I have 46 hours to get rested and then I'll be heading to Switzerland."
What?
He had absolutely dumbfounded the man.
His other self was grinning like an idiot, though.
"Wow, Kogoru. I had no idea that you were doing that well." said the man. "I was honestly wondering if you were free to do a case with us"
It had come.
He thanked God the man couldn't see his expression right now.
"I don't know. It would have to be pretty small." He said. "Even I need to sleep."
"Of course. We just want you to look over some information and see if there are any inconsistencies" said the man. "Should we schedule for tomorrow when your more fresh?"
"Alright then" he said. "I'll be over at 3."
He ended the call and made a yes motion.
He did have another job lineup but he wanted to make an impact on the Japanese police and if he made an impact, then they would call him up for tougher cases, and that meant being included in the one's all the big detective were involved to be in.
He came home, locked the door and slept, he was then awakened by an alarm and cleaned and dusted his office.
Then he had a shower and headed to the police station.
The look on the police men's faces as he strolled in with his new classy suit, shoes and coat was commercial.
The inspector was shocked, nobody had ever seen him look so good.
He was directed to a table with a file and computer.
Crime and suspicious calls we're happening every day so the police couldn't follow up on all of it.
He sat down and opened the folder and looked at the computer.
He must have looked at it for a few minutes before he said. "The person B is lying. His alibi is impossible"
Everybody was shocked.
"What do you mean by that Kogoru?" said the Inspector.
"What gave him away was this building he said, he saw," he said, repeating what his other self was telling him. " I just saw both locations on the way back here. As of now, the human eye can only see everything within 3 miles. These two locations are 4 miles apart and he said he saw this building in the dark. Unless he was wearing night-vision extra sight enhancing googles, his eye sight should have been much shorter due to the lack of light particles. That's why his alibi is impossible. You could go around the block and you still won't be unable to see it."
He then said. "You can ask the civilians to test this out if you want. Shinichi Kudou already proved that the public will go out of their way to help in a case"
Silence.
Dead Silence.
And then he began to get ready to leave.
"W-Wait, Kogoru! What about the others?" said the Inspector.
"Others, what others?" He said, stunning them. "I only agreed to do this one case because of our friendship. If not for that, I would be asking you for a check right now. I have a flight to catch soon and I'll rather spend time preparing for that than give these low-level cases anymore of my time. Inspector, have your forgotten? You didn't just call anybody here. You called the Sleeping Sleuth"
They were all stunned.
"Oh and inspector. You really should do your laundry earlier so you wouldn't have to wear old trousers" he said. "That poor button looks ready to pop"
He left and the moment he was out the door, the button indeed popped, it flew and the man's trousers dropped.
The look on everybody's faces was amazing as the man was forced to wear lost and found pants.
The inspector called Kogoru daughter that night and said. "I was just wondering if you had talked to your father recently? Other than in that case"
Ran was stunned and said. "The last time was a month or two ago, I was asking if he was eating properly"
"No, Ran. I mean really talk to your father" said the man stunning her. "Your father came in earlier today for a small case and he ripped an alibi a new one within a minute. He started going on about light particles, eyesight and distance. He even accurately told me that I wasn't wearing my usual trousers and the button was going to pop. Honestly, it was like listening to your husband. I don't know what happened but the Franch were right. Your father is more amazing than before now. He's actually awake"
She was silent as the phone ended.
A few hours later, she called her Father up.
He answered and said. "Oh, hi, Ran. You don't have to yell, I had a salad, tonight. So how is married life?"
She was taken back, at last, she was starting to realise it had been a while since they truly talked about him.
"It's good," she said. "How are you doing? Isn't your office in need of cleaning?"
He said. "Ran, what are you talking about, My office is spotless. How can a father, relay on his married daughter to clean? Heaven forbid she's pregnant. This comes a time when a man learns to clean his own place and we have gone passed that."
She was taken back again.
Her father was cleaning his own office?
"Ran, is there something you want to talk to me about?" He said, there was silence on the other end before she said.
"Dad, would you like to come over for dinner tomorrow?" she said, and he was taken back.
Honestly, the last time he had been to his daughter house was shortly after she had gotten married, but everybody was there including Shinichi parents and his ex-wife.
My God did he and his wife fight.
"Tomorrow? I'm sorry" he said, stunning her. "I'll be out of the country by tomorrow. I have another case and I've already taken the money. I don't know when I'll be back, perhaps I'll call you"
She was silent.
"Ran, your father is fine," he said. "I may not like your husband but he makes you happy and that's more than enough for me. You're married so you should be focusing on your own life and not what your old man is up to. If your constantly worried about your old man, your hair will turn grey before mine does. I'm fine" and then he ended the call.
Honestly, he didn't wants to hold her back, there were times where he wondered why his daughter still stayed by his side when she could have chosen to go to her mother any time.
He needed to stop expecting her to come and whip him into shape, every morning.
Meanwhile Ran on the other end was still holding the phone as it beeped dead.
She didn't notice it until her husband began to put the phone down.
"Ran?" He said.
And that's when she did a karate kick at the wall.
"Damn it, not again!" She said.
She knew what this feeling was, she had gone through it with her husband.
Her own father was avoiding him.
