Chapter 3: Battle in the Snow
(Out on the battlefield, the Rebels, in their snowgear, look out in the distance for any signs of enemy forces. Spitelout and Silent Sven stand above the trenches viewing the vast snow plain before them.)
Sven: You sure we can hold them off?
Spitelout: Yeah, unless they have some giant robot camels, we should do fine.
(They then see small, dot-sized objects coming over the horizon, making their way towards them. Sven looks through binoculars to see what they are. He passes the binoculars to Spitelout.)
Sven:Uh, Spitelout? Those are giant robot camels.
(Spitelout looks through the binoculars and sees a close up of half a dozen large, metal Imperial walkets, AT-AT's, moving through the snow. He notices the feet of one of them.)
Spitelout: Check it out. That one's wearing croc's.
Sven: So, think we're done for?
Spitelout: Well, they may win the battle. But we only need to fight them long enough for everyone to get away. (speaks through his communicator) Echo station 3T8, we've spotted Imperial walkers coming from the north ridge.
(His call makes it through to the base. Tuffnut and the other pilots get in their snowspeeders and take off from the hanger. The Imperial walkers enter through the perimeter and open fire on the Rebel battlelines.)
Spitelout: Open fire!
(The Rebels in the trenches and turrets shoot back it the walkers across the ice fields. The squadron of snowspeeders race through the sky toward the battlefield. Tuffnut flies in the front.)
Tuffnut: (in transmitter) Echo station five-seven, we're on our way.
Rebel: (through transmitter) Good, we'll see you-
(There's an explosion then static.)
Tuffnut: (in transmitter) Uh…I mean, Echo station five-eight, we're on our way.
(The speeders zip over the trenches at full throttle and over the plain towards the distant walkers.)
Tuffnut: Alright, people, keep it tight.
Eret: Right with you, Tuff!
Tuffnut: Attack pattern delta. Go now!
(The walkers fire at the speeders with the mounted cannons on their heads. A few speeders shoot past them and bank to the right.)
Tuffnut: Alright, I'm going in.
(He turns his speeder and directly charges at one of the walkers from the side and fires on its torso. The laser fire barely penetrates its hull as he flies right between the towering legs.)
Tuffnut: Speedy, Eret, you still with me?
(Two speeders fly directly at the head of a walker then split and fly past it. Speedifist pilots one with Sharpknife as his gunner. Eret pilots the other with Atali with him. Rebel troops in the trenches shoot down the field at the walkers as small explosions from the walkers lasers occur around them. The speeders keep flying around and between the walkers. Some are shot down by them. In the head of the lead walker, General Grimmel, in grey battle armor, and two white armored pilots focus on the Rebel battalion in the distance before them as their war machine lumber forward. Speeders keep shooting at the bodies, but have no effect.)
Tuffnut: That armor's too thick for blasters. Their necks the weakest. We got to get them exposed. Rogue group, use your harpoons and two cables. Go for the legs. It might be our only chance of stopping them.
(Some of the turrets by the trenches get hit and blow up. In the head walker, Grimmel speaks to a hologram of Viggo on the console.)
Grimmel: Yes, Lord Viggo, I've reached the main power generator. The shield will be down in moments. You may start your landing.
(Tuffnut continues flying his speeder around.)
Tuffnut: Rogue three.
Eret: Copy, Rogue leader.
Tuffnut: Eret, we're going for the one on the left. Since I got no gunner, you and Atali will have to make the shot. I'll cover for you. Set your harpoon and follow me on the next pass.
Eret: Coming around, Rogue leader.
(He flies his speeder through the legs of one of the walkers.)
Atali: Activating harpoon.
(Atali pulls the firing switch on her back gun. The harpoon flies out and buries itself into one of the walkers legs.)
Eret: Great shot.
(Their speeder circles around the walker's feet, trailing the cable behind them. They circle around a few times, getting more of the cable around the legs.)
Eret: One more pass.
Atali: Coming around. One more.
(They sweep left to right ahead of the giant legs.)
Atali: Cable out. Let her go!
Eret: Detach cable.
(The cable detaches from the back and snaps loose and the cable drops away.)
Atali: Cable detached.
(They fly away from the walker as it attempts to take a step and then topples forward, crashing to the icy ground. The Rebels in the trenches witness the sight.)
Sven: Walker's down!
Spitelout: That's how you do it!
(The speeders fly overheard to the downed walker and shoot at the exposed neck. The walker explodes and spreads debris over the frozen ground.)
Eret: Whoa! That got'em!
Tuffnut: I see it, guys. Good work.
(In the command center, large chunks of ice tumble around the walls as Ruffnut and the others moniter computer screens.)
Stoick: I don't think we can protect two transports at a time.
Ruffnut: It's risky, but we can't hold much longer.
Stoick: (in transmitter) Launch patrols.
Ruffnut: (in transmitter) Evacuate remaining ground staff.
(Out in the hanger, as it shakes from the explosions outside, Hiccup and Toothless work desperately to fix whatever they can on the Millennium Falcon.)
Toothless: Is this right?
Hiccup: No, no! That one goes there, that one goes there.
(In another hanger, Fishlegs watches as Snotlout is lifted up and fitted into the back socket of Tuffnut's X-wing fighter.)
Fishlegs: (worried) Snotlout, you take care of Tuffnut and yourself, you here me?
Snotlout: (smiling) He's not going anywhere without me right beside him. I'd be more worried about yourself, Fishface.
Fishlegs: Yes, I better get back to Ruffnut and leave with her. I'll see you soon. (walks away) Oh dear. Oh dear…
(Back on the battlefield, the combat becomes more intense as the walkers close in toward the base. More turrets are destroyed at the trenches. In the cockpit of the lead walker, Grimmel observes the control console and speaks through a transmitter.)
Grimmel: All troops will debark for ground assault. Prepare to target the main generator.
(Tuffnut and the speeders fly in formation towards the other walkers.)
Tuffnut: Okay guys, set harpoons. I'll cover for you. Watch those cross hairs. Stay tight and low.
(Tuffnut flies ahead with two more behind him. Suddenly the other speeders are hit by laser fire and explode. Tuffnut is also hit and loses control. The speeder fills with smoke and the controls short-out.)
Tuffnut: Blast it! I'm hit!
(He descends to the ground and crashes stuck in the snow. He opens the cockpit door and sees the giant foot of a Walker heading towards him. He then hits a button on his console.)
Female employee: (through transmitter) Onstar, what is the nature of your emergency?
Tuffnut: Yeah, I just got shot down by an Imperial walker and I need roadside assistance.
Female employee: Of course sir. Am I speaking with the admiral?
Tuffnut: (shiftily) Ye- Yes. Yes, I'm the admiral. (gruff voice) It's a trap.
(He sees the walker closing in.)
Tuffnut: You know what, just cancel that. (sighs) Things are so not going my way in this one.
(As the foot gets closer, he desperately picks up all his equipment out of the speeder and jumps out just before the walkers foot comes down crushes the small wrecked vehicle. In the hallways of the base, Hiccup makes his way through to the control room. He passes Rebel troops and engineers rushing to get out as the base shakes and cracks on the wall appear as chunks of ice rain down. He passes two troopers carrying a third, who looks dazed, in their arms.)
Dazed trooper: (slurring) I love you guys. We had a great summer.
(Hiccup hurries into the command center and finds Ruffnut and Fishlegs near a control panel.)
Hiccup: You all right?
Ruffnut: (surprised) Why are you still here?
(Hiccup picks up a set of keys off a desk and smiles sheepishly.)
Hiccup: Well, I just realized my spaceship works better when I have the keys. Duh!
Ruffnut: Well, you got your clearance to leave.
Hiccup: Don't worry, I'll leave. But first I'm gonna get you to your ship.
(The room shakes violently again. Fishlegs stumbles backwards into Hiccup's arms. An announcement comes on the loudspeaker.)
Announcer: Imperial troops have entered the base! Imperial troops have…(feedback) Sorry, I dropped the thing. Imperial troops have entered the base.
Hiccup: Come on…that's it.
Ruffnut: (to controllers) Give the evacuation code signal. And get to your transports!
(Hiccup grabs her hand and leads her out. They run down the corridor with Fishlegs struggling to keep up.)
Fishlegs: Wait for me!
(Outside on the battlefield, the remaining walkers had reached the perimeter of the base and the Rebels were now running back as the trenches and turrets now lay in ruins.)
Spitelout: Fall back! Everyone retreat!
(They flee from the battle as the ground explodes around them from the three walkers looming above them. Tuffnut runs up under the walker on right side and shoots his cable gun up at the underside. He attatches the cable to his belt and gets pulled up. He arrives at the hull, pulls out his lightsaber and cuts a small hatch open. He puts his saber away and pulls out a thermal grenade. He turns to the audience.)
Tuffnut: You may call this fighting dirty, but we're in a war!
(He primes the explosive and tosses it through the hatch. It almost falls back out but he kicks it back in. He quickly detaches the cable and falls back into the snow. He looks up at the walker as it stops mid-step. A muffled explosion flashes from within and the head blows up. The wrecked walker turns on its side away from Tuffnut and falls over. Up ahead, Grimmels walker continues to advance on the base. It turns its head and shoots an attacking snowspeeder that crashes to the ground. Inside, Grimmel and his pilots prepare to get in range.)
Grimmel: Distance to power generators?
Pilot: 17.82
(Grimmel pulls down the scope and lines up the main generators in his sights.)
Grimmel: Target. Maximum fire power.
(The walker fires at the generators and they go up in a tremendous explosion. In the base, Hiccup and Ruffnut rush through the crumbling ice corridor with Fishlegs lagging behind. Suddenly, there's a large explosion from outside and the ceiling in front of them caves in. They stop dead in their tracks as the path before them becomes blocked by debris. Hiccup takes out his comlink.)
Hiccup: Transport, this is Solo. Better take off. We can't get to you. I'll get the princess out on the Falcon.
(Hiccup and Ruffnut turn around and race back the way they came. They pass Fishlegs who turns around as well.)
Fishlegs: Hey! But…where are you going? Come back!
(In another part of the base, a wall blows open and stormtroopers in snow gear storm in. Viggo enters with them. They begin scrambling around and searching the now empty and trashed rooms.)
Viggo: Skywalkers friends are here somewhere. Find them!
(Hiccup and Ruffnut run to an entrance to the hanger. Fishlegs still lags behind.)
Fishlegs: Wait! Stop! Wait for me!
(They go through the door and it closes before Fishlegs can get through.)
Fishlegs: (exasperated) How typical.
(The door reopens and Hiccup reaches out and pulls Fishlegs through.)
Hiccup: Come on!
(They run through the hanger towards the Falcon where Toothless waits impatiently for them. He sees them coming.)
Toothless: About time! The whole place is coming down!
Hiccup: (to Toothless) Get on! Start her up! (to Fishlegs) Hurry it up, goldenrod, or your gonna be a permanent resident!
Fishlegs: Wait! Wait!
(Toothless speeds up the boarding ramp with Hiccup and Ruffnut right behind and finally Fishlegs. The ramp closes up. Viggo and his troops make their way down the corridors to the hanger, ignoring the falling ice chunks. The Falcon makes a engine starting up sound before dying out. Hiccup flips switches at a control panel as Toothless watches a troublesome gauge. Ruffnut worriedly observes their efforts.)
Hiccup: How's this?
Toothless: Not quite!
Ruffnut: (sarcastically) Would it help if I got out and pushed?
Hiccup: It might.
(Fishlegs enters the hold.)
Fishlegs: Captain Hiccup, captain Hiccup? Sir, might I thst suggest you…
(Hiccup turns to him with a stern look and holds up his index finger.)
Fishlegs: It can wait.
(Hiccup gets into the cockpit and flips a switch. Lights turn on then shut off. He pounds the control console and the lights come back on. Toothless and Ruffnut enter behind him. The pilots sit down in the front chairs.)
Ruffnut: This bucket of bolts will never get us past the blockade.
Hiccup: This bucket of bolts got a few surprises left in her, sweetheart. Me and Toothless are on it. (smirks) Ain't that right, bud?
Toothless: (smirks) Yeah, you my nerfherder!
Hiccup: You my nerfherder!
(They fist bump and Ruffnut rolls her eyes. Stormtroopers begin to enter the hanger and approach the Falcon with their blasters. Toothless activities a rotating laser cannon that comes out from under the Falcon and unloads on the attacking stormtroopers. Some of them start trying to set up a big gun on a stand. But are shot before they can.)
Hiccup: Switch over. Let's hope we don't have a burn out.
(Toothless pulls back on the controls and the engine firing up is heard. They smile in relief while Ruffnut still looks uncertain.)
Ruffnut: (to Hiccup) Someday, you're gonna be wrong about something, and I hope I'm there to see it.
(Hiccup ignores her and keeps activating controls.)
Hiccup: Punch it!
(The roar of the engine blasts out as the ship lifts off and flies to an opening. Viggo enters the hanger with more troops in perfect time to see the ship take off through an opening and disappear out of the cave.)
Viggo: Curse it! Inform the fleet I want the Falcon hunted down and captured!
This won't be updated any further until I receive at least five reviews.
