Hey guys, so I had a couple of question about the fic, again this is based on Debt of TIme but in later chapters, you will see this story is completely different. Also the spell "Alterus Belandio" is one of my own creation there is not a Latin translation and the spell is an elemental spell which will come into play in future chapters I hope you are enjoying so far and can't wait to see those reviews
Hermione woke up, and saw only white when she opened her eyes. She blinked, then looked around and noticed it looked like the Hogwarts library but...whiter? 'Am I dead?' she thought.
"No, Hermione. You're not dead yet" She turned around and saw Ron and Harry standing there, smiling like idiots. She ran towards them and threw her arms around their necks, pulling them into a tight embrace.
"Good to see you too 'Mione" Ron said, chuckling. Hermione was so happy to see them, but weren't they supposed to be dead? She had seen them both die.
"Hermione, we are dead." Harry said sadly. He put his hand on her shoulder to comfort her.
"But if you guys are dead and I'm not, then where are we?" Hermione asked curiously.
"The inbetween." Ron said, answering her question.
"What's that? Am I almost dead?" She asked, even more confused than before.
"Hermione, do you remember what happened after I-er died?" Harry asked.
"Well, I remember running and then I was hit with four different curses, I knew 3 of them but the last one i'd never heard of before." She said, recalling the events of the past few minutes.
"Let me see if I could explain this a bit better Harry." Ron exclaimed, trying to help his friend explain. "You were hit with both an ice and a fire curse, which caused your body to go into shock. You were also blown up at the same time. If that makes any sense."
"Then how in Godric's name am I still alive?" Hermione asked, pointing out that by all logic she shouldn't be alive.
"Well Hermione, that last spell seemed to cause you to absorb all the curses into your magical core." Harry told her, hoping she wouldn't freak out.
"Oh my Godric! Has this ever even happened before? What is going to happen to me?" Hermione said, as she was starting to panic.
"Hermione, please try to calm down. I can't explain all of this very well if you're not listening." Harry said as he helped her sit on one of the white library chairs, kneeling before her and looking into her eyes. Once he saw that she had visibly calmed down he continued. "All of these spells hit your broken time turner, which is why you're here with us right now."
"Harry, my time turner has been deactivated, it's useless." She said
"Well Hermione, the power from the spells actually made your time turner activate again." Harry explained, "It wielded powerful magic that has sent you back in time."
Hermione thought about this. If she went back a few hours she could wake up and fix everything. 'No one would have to die' she thought. She could save everyone and give them enough time to defeat Voldemort.
"Hermione, I know that look and it's not what you think." Ron said sadly, reading her thoughts.
"But I could go back! I could save everyone!" Hermione said excitedly
"Hermione you weren't just sent back a few hours, you were sent back years." Harry told her, awaiting her reaction. She stared blankly into his eyes.
"How far?" She asked simply.
"1971" Harry told her quietly.
"WHAT?! Harry, you're not even alive then, I'm not even alive." She said, jumping out of her chair pacing back and forth. "There has to be something we can do, I can find Dumbledore and-."
"No, there's no other way 'Mione." Ron said sadly. "There's no coming back."
"So what am I supposed to do Ronald! Just live my life in the 70's?" She said, irritated. 'If anyone could find a way back I could' she thought.
"Yes Hermione, that's exactly what you are going to do." Harry said. "When you wake up, you are going to live your life. You are going to have a childhood, one where you aren't getting petrified by Basilisks or chasing horcruxes."
"Harry I am not a child anymore." She said getting angry. She continued pacing, searching her mind for a way to fix this.
"But you will be, Ron and I talked about this and we have a plan. Now are you ready to hear us out, or are you going to continue trying to find a way to get home." Harry asked sternly, looking at her. She nodded gesturing for him to continue with the explanation. "The plan is that you are going to be 11 again when you wake up. You are currently in the hospital wing at Hogwarts in a coma. Me and Ron talked about it and we are going to lock your memories away until you turn 16, so you can have a normal childhood without remembering what has happened to you. When you turn 16 then you can go to Dumbledore and tell him what you know about the future. You can end the war the first time Hermione, you can save my parents, Sirius, all of us."
"Okay." She replied simply.
"Okay?" Harry said, confused. "We thought we'd have to drag you kicking and screaming." He said with a chuckle.
"What you are saying sounds really nice Harry." Hermione said. "But you look like you're not telling me something." She knew that look, they were both hiding something from her.
"Well, you have powers 'Mione." Ron said quietly.
"I am a witch, Ronald. Of course I have powers." She said, rolling her eyes at him.
"What Ron means Hermione is that you have more abilities than a normal witch." Harry informed her. "You were hit with curses that bonded to your magical core, giving you special wandless abilities. You will be able to control the elements, fire, water, ice, earth, and wind."
"Harry that's not possible." She told him in disbelief.
"Well you'll find out soon enough, we are running out of time here and you are going to wake up soon." Harry said sadly, knowing this would be the last time he'd ever see her at his age. As his best friend.
"Do you guys have to go?" Hermione asked with watery eyes.
"We have to move on, to the other side." Ron told her. "But we will always be with you."
She understood in that moment what all this meant, they'd never be the "Golden Trio" again. They wouldn't remember her, and she wouldn't remember them for a very long time. By the time she saw them again, they'd be infants. She walked towards them and pulled them into a hug.
"I love you guys, and I'll miss you so much." She told them in a shaky voice.
"We'll miss you too." They told her. They released her from the hug and both planted a kiss on her forehead.
She felt herself slowly slip away, forgetting everything and everyone. She could feel her body shift back into the 11 year old girl she hadn't been for so long. Then everything around her was darkness.
August 1st, 1971
She woke up with a pounding headache, and her eyes flickered open as she heard a voice come from beside her.
"She's waking up!" A woman said as she ran towards her, forcing her to drink the glass of water in her hand.
"Where am I?" The curley haired witch said confused.
"My name is Madame Pomfrey. You are at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Now can you tell me your name dear?" Madame Pomfrey asked the brown eyed girl.
"I-I don't remember. I think my name is Mia?" The girl said, trying to remember.
"Is there a last name that goes with that child?" The question came from a man in long maroon robes with a long white beard.
"I don't remember my last name." Mia said, with tears in her eyes
"My name is Albus Dumbledore and I am the Headmaster here at Hogwarts. You needn't be worried about remembering we will find your family and return you to them shortly." Dumbledore reassured her.
"I don't have any family." She said sadly. "I don't remember much but I have a feeling they are dead."
"We will find some wonderful people to take care of you then, Mia. Let me just owl around, and you should be ready to go to your new home by the end of the day." He said, standing up to leave while the young girl recovered.
"Wait! How did I get here? What year is it? How old am I? I have no many questions." She started asking.
"I am sure you do but for now you need to rest, I will however answer your questions." Dumbledore told her. "The truth is we don't know how you got here, or where you came from. You were lying outside the castle in the courtyards when we found you. You're injured, though not too severely. The date is August 1st, 1971, and you look like you are around the age of 11. Which reminds me…" He reached into his robes and handed her a letter. "That is your Hogwarts letter. If it is your wish to attend this school we need your reply by the end of the week. I'm going to ensure you have a place to stay. Until then, please do try to get some rest." He turned away and left the room without another word.
Hermione spent the rest of the day anxiously awaiting Dumbledore's return, and for news as to where she was going. Right after she was given dinner by the house elves, Madame Pomfrey and Professor Dumbledore walked in the room with a man and a woman she'd never seen before.
The man was wearing grey and black robes, and he was tall with short black hair. His chocolate brown eyes were full of curiosity as he looked at the girl on the bed. The woman, who Mia could only assume was his wife, was wearing a knee length modest green dress with capped sleeves. She had black hair as well, though hers was long and curly, and grey eyes. Mia thought she was beautiful.
"Miss Mia, this is Euphemia and Fleamont Potter. They've agreed to adopt you since you've said your parents are deceased. They have a son about your age, his name is James. Is that correct?" Dumbledore looked at the Potters for confirmation. They nodded, confirming his statement. "We are unsure of the danger you were in before you came into our possession, so we feel it is best to change your appearance and your last name."
"Danger? What do you mean danger?" Mia asked her voice filled with half-worry and half-confusion.
"The world is a dangerous place my dear, we don't know who your family is or was, but people could be looking for you. Looking to harm you." Fleamont said speaking to her for the first time. "It is important that we keep your identity hidden, which is why we are going to say that you're James' twin sister."
"Will he be aware of this? Or will you just tell him you've kept his secret twin in your basement for years?" Mia said, chuckling to herself.
"James will be aware, but he is not to ask you any questions." Euphemia said. "But we want you to know that we will treat you like family. You are our daughter Mia, Mia Elizabeth May Potter. I hope you're okay with us giving you a middle name but you needed one."
"That sounds beautiful." Mia said repeating the new name in her head a few times. "You said something about changing my appearance? Also what should I call you, Mum and Dad?"
"Well when we are in private you can call us Fleamont and Euphemia if you want to, but in public it would be best if you called us Mum and Dad. Are you okay with that Mia?" Mia nodded and Euphemia continued. "As for your appearance, we are going to make you look more like us, like a Potter. We can preform a simple charm to make your hair permanently black, and you already have the brown eyes so we don't need to change them."
"Can we preform it now?" Mia asked, wanting to get accustomed to her new life as quickly as possible.
"If you wish, once that is completed we can take you home to rest, and you can meet James in the morning. We still have to explain this situation to him." Fleamont explained to the young witch.
"Okay dear, close your eyes and I will guide you over to a mirror so we can perform the charm." Euphemia told her. Mia closed her eyes as she was slowly guided to a mirror in the hospital wing. She heard muttering behind her as the spell was casted. "You can open your eyes now dear."
Mia opened her eyes to see her once shoulder-length, curly brown hair was now black and wavy with the curls trailing halfway down her back. "I love it!" She squealed, looking at her adoptive parents with gratitude.
"There is one last thing I would like to discuss with you, Miss Mia." Dumbledore said. She'd almost forgotten he was there. "It has to do with that bandage on your forearm." This was the first time she even noticed the white bandage wrapped around her left forearm. She reached to remove it from her arm.
"Before you do that, I should warn you that what you're about to see will be very disturbing. Just know that it does not define you in anyway and we will be covering it with a concealment charm that you'll be able remove as you wish." Dumbledore warned her.
Mia started to remove the bandage from her arm, facing the 3 adults. When the bandage was completely removed, she heard Fleamont and Euphemia gasp, tears welling up in her adoptive mother's eyes. She looked down and saw the word 'Mudblood' etched in scars on her arm. She didn't know what the word meant, but she could tell it wasn't good.
"What does it mean?" Mia asked when she finally found her voice again.
"It's a foul word, it means dirty blood. Many purebloods call Muggleborns this word." Fleamont explained, never taking his eyes off the scar on her arm.
"You won't have to see it ever again if you don't want to Mia." Dumbledore said as he raised his wand and suddenly the scar disappeared. "If you ever want to view it, just point your wand at it and say 'Finite Incantatem'. No need to worry about reapplying the charm to your arm, it is set to reactive 5 minutes after the charm is taken off."
There was also a large scar on her chest, and she asked if Dumbledore could cover that as well. He informed her that he was planning on it, but this scar seemed to completely slip his mind.
"Are you ready to come home Mia?" Euphemia asked her new daughter.
"May I just have a glass of water before I go? All of this discussion and such has made me very thirsty." She asked awkwardly.
"Of course my dear." Dumbledore said, waving his wand a glass of water appeared in Mia's hands. She went to take a sip and noticed that the glass froze instantly in her grasp. Mia gasped, dropping the glass, shattering it into millions of pieces "Curious." Dumbledore whispered. "That wasn't wandless magic, that was almost like you controlled it. Is there any way you could unfreeze it?"
Mia stared at the ground and concentrated on unfreezing the water, but the frozen water remained untouched.
"I can't sir." Mia said slightly deflated.
"No matter dear, if anything like that happens again I want you to contact me." Dumbledore said, looking at Fleamont and Euphemia. "I sense some strange magic coming from her magical core. When school starts we will have private lessons to look into this more."
"Is something wrong with me sir?" Mia asked, concerned.
"Absolutely not Mia, I just want to see if what you can do is controllable. I also sense that this is just the beginning of the power you possess." Dumbledore explained calmly. "Come to my office on the first day of school, after your classes and we will begin. I've disabled the anti-apperation wards for the next 5 minutes so you can get home. I hope you have a great rest of your holiday and I can't wait to see you September first." He turned away, leaving the Potters with their new daughter and feeling slightly shocked at what just happened.
'I can freeze water with my bare hands. I don't think that's normal' Hermione thought to herself. 'I suppose i'll learn more about it when school starts. I can't wait'
"Well I guess we'll just head home, have you ever Apperated before?" Fleamont asks Mia.
"If I have, I don't remember. So I suppose not." Mia told Fleamont.
"Well that's alright, all I need you to do is hold on tightly around my waist and close your eyes." Fleamont explained. "You may feel some discomfort and may feel sick, but you'll be fine I promise." Mia closed her eyes and held on tightly to Fleamont's waist. "Ready?" He asked, she nodded. "One...two...Three."
Mia suddenly felt a rush as she once again slipped into darkness.
When Mia opened her eyes, she was outside a beautiful old house. It was huge and made of stone, and she could tell it must have been a family home considering how old it looked. Her palms were sweating. 'Do I really belong here?' she asked herself. She was nervous, terrified. She looked and saw Fleamont and Euphemia on either side of her as they grabbed her hands, sensing her nervousness.
"Are you ready to see your new home?" Euphemia asked Mia. Mia nodded, as she was too nervous to speak.
She stepped into the front foyer and saw the antique decor. She walked down the hallway, passing many doors until she saw the den. There was a fire still burning, and she saw the grey couch and leather air chairs. She smelled the air around her and realized, this is home. She looked curiously at everything around her, noticing the photos around the house and the unique plants that she could only assume were Euphemia's.
"We can give you a full tour tomorrow, you've had a long and tiring day. You need to rest. Euphemia told her. "We have a room all set up for you, follow me."
Mia and Fleamont followed her up the stairs until they were led to a guest bedroom that Mia would stay in for the night.
"I know it's plain, but we will go shopping for new clothes and decorations for you tomorrow." Euphemia informed Mia.
"You really don't have to, I don't want to go to all the trouble-" Mia was interrupted by Euphemia who led her to the bed, gesturing for her to sit down. Euphemia crouched between Mia's legs, lowering herself to eye level.
"Mia, you are part of this family and you are my daughter. I know we don't know each other well, and I am hoping we can change that soon. But for now I am going to buy as many clothes and decorations as I want, is that understood?" Euphemia said softly but sternly, Mia nodded. "You need rest. I've laid out one of my old nightgowns for you, our room is just at the end of the hall if you need anything."
Euphemia planted a kiss on Mia's forehead, and Fleamont did the same. Mia looked around the room, seeing a closet, dresser, and four-poster bed with a white duvet on it. She also saw a large wooden desk, and two bedside tables with pretty white lamps on them. She slipped out of the clothes she was currently wearing, covered in mud and what appeared to be blood. 'What happened to me?' she asked herself. She slipped on the nightgown and slipped into bed, and the second her head hit the pillow she fell asleep from exhaustion.
James woke to the sound of screaming coming from a bedroom a few doors down from him.
"NO- I DIDN'T TAKE IT! IT'S A FAKE!" He heard. He jumped out of bed and followed the voice, running to whoever it was. He located the door where the screams were coming from and saw a girl with curly black hair, who looked to be about his age, thrashing around on her bed. He ran to her and began to shake her shoulders, attempting to wake her up.
"Wake up! You're safe! You're safe!" James told the young girl.
He watched as she woke up and sat up straight, tears streaming down her face.
"Who are you?" She asked him, voice shaking with fear.
"Well I should be asking you that, considering this is my house." He said chuckling, trying to lighten the mood, she crawled back in fear, away from him. "Hey, you're safe. I'm sorry if I scared you. My name is James, James Potter, and you are?"
"Mia." She replied simply.
"Do you have a last name Mia?" James asked, trying to gain her trust.
"I'm not sure I should say." She said to him. He looked at her confused.
"James! What are you doing out of bed?" Euphemia asked having heard the screaming. She noticed Mia who was in tears. "Mia! Are you okay?" She walked over to Mia. Mia threw her arms around the woman.
"I had a nightmare." Mia said sobbing into Euphemia's shoulders.
"Oh honey! Do you want to talk about it?" She asked her daughter. Mia shook her head into the woman's shoulders.
"Umm...Mum. Who is this?" James asked awkwardly, not knowing if this was the time to ask his mother about the mysterious girl.
"This is Mia, your new sister." Euphemia told him. James looked at her with wide eyes. He'd always wanted a sibling!
"Well, your twin sister to be exact." Fleamont said from the door frame, where he'd watched the whole scene.
"Twin sister?" James said, very confused.
"Let's talk somewhere else." Fleamont said, leading James away from the room, where Mia was slowly falling back to sleep. "We were going to tell you in the morning, but Mia was found a couple days ago at Hogwarts. She was very badly injured, and Dumbledore seems to think some very dangerous people were after her family. She has no memory of her past, so please don't ask James." Looking at his son sterly.
"Of course." James said without hesitation.
"Her family is dead from what she's told us. Dumbledore thought it would be safer for her to have a new last name and to change her appearance. As of right now, Mia Elizabeth May Potter is your twin sister. She will be having meetings with Dumbledore for private lessons, and you will be expected to cover for her with whatever friends you or her may make while at Hogwarts. Do you understand?" Fleamont asked, looking deep into James' eyes and hoping his son understood.
"Of course Dad! I have a sister! You know I've always wanted one!" He said, laughing.
Fleamont breathed a sigh of relief, happy that his son was so open to all of this.
"It's really late James you should head to bed, try to get some sleep." Fleamont told his son.
"But I want to talk to Mia!" James said with a pout.
"She's had a very long day James, she's been through a lot. You can talk with her tomorrow, but you both need rest. We are going to Diagon Alley tomorrow to get Mia some new robes, you'll be able to talk with her then. For now go and get some rest." Fleamont instructed.
Eventually, Mia and the elder Potters fell back asleep. James, however, was wide awake filled with the excitement of getting to know his new sister.
