September 2nd

Mia woke up drenched in sweat, tears pouring down her face. 'I have to be strong, James can't know.' Mia thought. 'Who is that woman and why did she do this to me' Mia trembled.

Mia looked at the clock on the wall, which read 6:30. Not too early to wake up, Mia quickly got up and pulled on her new Gryffindor uniform.

She checked the time again, 7am. 'Might as well head down to the common room'.

She was shocked to find the boys already downstairs waiting for her.

"We were wondering when you'd come down." James said cheerfully.

"Why are you all up so early." Mia asked them. James always slept in as long as humanly possible.

"We figured you and Remus would be up as early as possible to get to our classes early." Sirius shrugged.

"That's right! What are we waiting for?" She said, practically jumping out of the common room portrait.

Once they were all in the Great Hall, the boys ran to find enough empty spots for all of them and began to shovel food onto their plates. Suddenly, what seemed like hundreds of owls flew into the Great Hall. Including Hedwig, who James and Mia had decided would be more comfortable with the other owls in the owlery. Mia and James both had a letter dropped in front of them from their parents. They'd written to them the night before, briefly telling them about the sorting. Mia also had a second letter, containing a small note that said:

'Chocolate Frogs are particularly delicious this time of year. Maybe even tomorrow.

A.D'

Mia figured this would be the password to Dumbledores office for lessons tomorrow. Remus and Peter both had owls from their mothers, and Sirius had a howler.

"Black, what is that?" Lily asked curiously.

"That is a howler." Mia informed her, not taking her eyes off of the letter in Sirius' hands.

"But what does it do?" Lily asked, clearly annoyed that her question hadn't truly been answered yet.

"Well you're about to see, Evans." Sirius said, breaking the seal on the envelope.

"SIRIUS ORION BLACK! YOU DISPICABLE EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN. HOW DARE YOU! A BLACK IN GRYFFINDOR!? HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING?! WHY COULDN'T YOU DO ONE THING. ONE THING THAT HAS BASICALLY BEEN PROMISED SINCE YOUR MISERABLE BIRTH. I WISH I'D NEVER DELIVERED YOU ALIVE- YOU BASTA-"

"Incendio" Mia said as the letter burst into the flames. The whole Great Hall had eyes on Sirius.

"Thank you." Sirius said, wide eyed

"Like I said, your mother is a horrible woman and my ears were about to bleed with her screeching." Mia said with a shrug.

"Still thank you." Sirius said, looking genuinely thankful.

Mia looked over to Remus and saw his plate nearly completely empty, unlike last night when he, Sirius and James had their plates piled sky high.

"Remus are you okay?" Mia asked, concerned. "You're not eating."

"I am eating Mia." Remus snapped, rolling his eyes and gesturing to his plate.

"Not as much as you did last night. What is going on with you?" She asked. She put her hand to his forehead. "You don't feel warm.."

"Merlin Mia! I'm fine, just drop it!" He snapped at her. "You're not my mother, stop babying me!"

"Fine. I'll see you in charms, James." She said, grabbing her plate and leaving to sit with Gideon and Fabian.

"What's your problem!" Sirius glared at him. "Mia was just concerned about you. Right now I am too."

"I'll apologize to her. I didn't sleep much last night." Remus said sadly. He shouldn't have snapped at her, no matter what condition he has. They didn't really believe him but shook it off.

"Crap, that reminds me." James said, beginning to walk to Mia. "I'll so you guys in music okay?"

Mia heard footsteps and looked over to see James walking towards her.

"Are you ready? I'll walk you to class." James asked her. Mia nodded and waved good bye to Gideon and Fabian. The pair walked out of the Great Hall into an empty corridor.

"So how was it last night?" James asked.

"It was great. No nightmares, Hogwarts must help me somehow." She lied with a smile.

"Really?" James questioned her.

"Really. I promise." Mia told him.

"Well then, come on let's get you to charms." James said. He didn't totally believe her, but he left it alone.

"No, no, no. You're going to take someones eye out." Mia scolded Sirius. They hadn't been in class for more then 10 minutes before Professor Flitwick asked them to try the spell 'Wingardium Levisoa'. "It's Levi-Osa not LeviosA."

"Well if it's so easy, Mia, why don't you do it." Sirius dared her.

"Easy, Wingardium Levisoa." Mia said with a swish and flick of her wand. The feather in front of her started to levitate.

"Excellent Miss. Potter. 10 points to Gryffindor." Professor Flitwick praised.

"Here let me help you, maybe it's your hand technique." Mia told Sirius. She spent the rest of class trying to teach him how to perform the charm until he finally did it.

Mia continued on with her day. She had double potions with James. Professor Slughorn seemed very interested in her potions work and said she was a promising student.

Next Mia had Herbology with Lily, and she and Lily raced to give answers to the questions. Laughing everytime, they earned 50 points for Gryffindor in one single class.

Mia then had Transfigurations with Remus, which she was not in the mood for. She'd already forgiven him for snapping at her, but she just couldn't figure out why.

She walked into the class to see Remus already there, no one else had entered the classroom yet.

"Mia, I am so sorry. I shouldn't have snapped at you. Can you ever forgive me." He said with pleading eyes.

"I've already forgiven you Remus. I'm just confused, you don't eat and you snap at me. Something isn't adding up, the Remus I saw last night eats more then James and Sirius combined, and he certainly never snaps at his friends." She said in a hurt voice.

"I wish I could tell you Mia. I don't want to tell you that will never happen again but it probably will." He told her.

"What do you mean?" Mia lowered her eyes in confusion, she'd read these symptoms somewhere before. But where?

"I can't tell you Mia. I'm sorry." Remus said apologetically.

"It's fine we are all entitled to our secrets." She told him with a smile. She'd research it later.

Professor McGonagall entered the room soon after and began teaching class. Mia loved Hogwarts so far, it had been one day and she'd learned more than she had learned researching in her library all summer.

The four of them had DADA together, which for the first time truly bored Mia. The Professor hadn't taught them a single thing. He did however play "Get to Know Me" games until they were blue in the face.

Their last class of the day was music, which Mia couldn't wait for. She could sing of course. Not that she told anyone, and usually sang only in the shower. 'I'm not good enough to perform in front of my peers. I'll stick to playing instruments and humming in the background.' The boys were once again staring at Professor Newcombe.

"Welcome Class, today we will be learning how to play instruments that we wish to learn for this year. Hopefully we can get you comfortable with two different instruments this year. At the end of the year you will be required to sing in a group or by yourself in front of the class. I hope you enjoy this class and I will be coming around to see your progress on the first instrument of your choosing."

Everyone ran to the first instruments they saw. Sirius chose an electric guitar, James chose drums and Remus chose a bass. Mia looks around as people picked the "cooler" instruments, but a classic grand piano caught her eye. She picked up the Piano for Beginners Book, and began to play different chords. Soon she started playing small songs, lost in her own world. She could hear nothing but the piano and the tunes she was playing.

"Well seems like we have a natural talent here." Professor Newcombe said, causing Mia to jump in fright. "Sorry dear I didn't mean to frighten you. I always the natural piano players make the best singers. Can you sing?" she asked Mia.

"Um, no." Mia said quietly. She wasn't sure why she lied, but she really didn't want to humiliate herself in front of everyone.

"Well not a problem dear, I just thought I would tell you class ended a few minutes ago. Your friends tried to call you, but you were lost in your own little world." Professor Newcombe informed the young girl.

"Oh no! I'll be late for dinner." She grabbed her bag and started to run out of the music room.

"Wait! Mia, take this with you." Professor Newcombe said, handing her the book. "My door is always open if you want to come back and play."

"Thank you Professor." Mia said with a blush, leaving the room.

"Hey Mia. We tried to call you but I guess you weren't listening." Sirius said. "I heard you playing that piano, you sounded pretty good."

"Pretty good, she sounded brilliant!" James exclaimed. "Really Mia. I was rubbish at drums but Newcombe is helping me with that."

"Thanks guys." They'd already started eating by the time she'd gotten there so she grabbed a couple of quick things. "So how did everyone's first day go?"

"Good" Remus said. She noticed he wasn't eating again.

"Okay." James told her.

"Not bad." Sirius shrugged.

"You guys make it sound so basic. We are at Hogwarts, your days should've been amazing." She told them with a shocked expression on her face.

"It's more homework then I thought." James told her.

"It's an insane amount of homework." Sirius corrected him.

"Oh it is not that bad." Mia told them. She quickly finished her food. "I'm going to the library, see you guys back at the common room." She grabbed her bag and ran out of the hall.

Mia spent hours in the library looking for something that could indicate what Remus had but she couldn't find anything. Eventually she went back to the common room to find the boys in a heated round of exploding snap with Peter.

"Mia! Have you heard?" James leaped towards his sister excitedly.

"Um-No?" She told him, confused.

"We have a flying lesson with Madame Hooch the day after tomorrow. No morning classes just flying." James told her.

"And I should care why? I already know how to fly James." Mia reminded him.

"Yes but we get out of class." James told her.

"You haven't told her the worst part." Sirius looked up from the game. "We have flying lessons with the Slytherins."

"Whatever, I have to do homework. So shhh." She said them.

"You were in the library for hours, why were you there if you weren't doing your work?" Peter asked.

"I was researching something personal." She told the boys vaguely.

"What kind of personal?" Sirius asked her curiously.

"If I told you it wouldn't be personal." She worked on her homework and even had time to play one round of exploding snap with the boys before she yawned.

"I'm headed off to bed, see you boys in the morning." She told them as she walked up the stairs to her dorm.

"Good night Mia." They called to her.

September 4th, 1971

Mia was not looking forward to the flying lesson, or the whole day, really. She just wanted to have her lessons with Dumbledore. She had already gone for her lessons yesterday, but Dumbledore was called away for an emergency. Remus was in a more foul mood then yesterday, he hadn't snapped at her yet but he was irritated all day. He'd gotten worse over the last couple of days, each day he looked more and more sickly. She stepped onto the Quidditch Pitch with the boys in her flying robes.

"Welcome to your first flying lesson. Well, what are you waiting for? Everyone step up to the left side of their broomstick. Come on now, hurry up. Stick your right hand over the broom and say, 'up!'"

"Up!" Mia commanded the broom, and it shot into her hand. She looked up to see that everyone but Peter had their broom in hand.

"Now get on your broom with a firm grip, and push off from the ground. Stay in the air for a moment then land your feet back on the grass." Madame Hooch instructed.

Mia got on the broom and held on with a firm grip, she pushed off from the ground, hovered for a moment and landed. She looked to her left and saw Remus turning green.

"Madame Hooch! I think Remus should go to the hospital wing!" She called over to her Professor. Madame Hooch took one look at Remus before shouting,

"Alright! I'll be right back, keep all brooms and feet on the ground while I am gone." Madame Hooch lead Remus up to the hospital wing. The class stood, quietly chatting to their friends until Alecto Carrow decided to have some fun.

"Ohh look at this." Alecto pointed at a pin on Mary's robes. Alecto took a few steps closer to Mary and ripped it off, starting to play with it in her hands. "Aww a tiny little pin."

"Give that back! My mum gave it to me." Mary told her sternly.

"Let me think about that...no. I think I'll keep it. It'll look quite good on me, right Amycus." She teased, asking her brother. James and Sirius were about to say something, but not before Mia pulled out her wand, pointing it at Alecto.

"Give it back, Carrow." Mia said with a glare.

"Guess you'll have to catch me first." Alecto said, getting on her broom and flying away. Mia put her wand in her pocket, swiftly getting on the broom to follow Alecto.

"I said give it back!" Mia told Carrow while chasing her around the pitch.

"Fine, if you want it. Catch it." Alecto teased, throwing the pin towards Professor McGonagall's office window. Mia raced to catch up with the small pin, never taking her eyes off of it. She finally got the pin in her grasp, caught in between her thumb and pointer figure. Mia looked up and saw Professor McGonagall staring at her through the window, shocked.

"Um, Hi Professor." Mia said with a tiny wave. Mia flew back down to the rest of her peers. James and Sirius pulled her into a hug.

"That was amazing." They both told her wide eyed.

"It was nothing." She told them. She turned to Mary and gave her the tiny pin back.

"Thank you." Mary said as she embraced her friend.

"You would've done the same for me." Mia told her. Maybe this day was going to be good.

"MIA POTTER!" Professor McGonagall yelled. "COME WITH ME!"

"Yes, Professor." Mia said with her head hung low. She followed McGonagall until they stopped in front of a potions classroom.

"Just one moment." McGonagall told her. "Professor Slughorn, can I borrow Gail Wood please?"

"Certainly." Slughorn replied

"Did I do something wrong professor?" Gail asked confused, he looked over and saw Mia looking even more confused.

"No nothing wrong. But I have found you a seeker." Professor McGonagall said.

"That's great but who?" Gail asked.

"Mia Potter here." McGonagall said, gesturing to the raven haired witch.

"Seriously?" Gail gave Mia a once over. "Her?"

"I just saw her race from the pitch to my office trying to catch a tiny pin. It was quite impressive." McGonagall gave Mia a smile.

"Well then, Welcome to the team. I'll come find you later to help you train. We've got a game coming up in a few weeks and we'll need to get you caught up with the rest of the team." He told Mia. "May I return to class Professor?" He asked McGonagall. She nodded and he left.

"So I'm not in trouble?" Mia asked her professor. "But you want me to join the quidditch team?"

"Correct." McGonagall replied simply.

"But I'm a first year." She told McGonagall. Her professor laughed.

"Yes dear, I am aware. However I haven't seen a seeker with your talents for many years, so I am willing to make an exception for the rule. I will need to ask Professor Dumbledore for permission, though I am sure that will not be an issue. As of right now you are the new seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch Team." McGonagall explained. "Now you should head down to lunch. I'm sure your friends will be very worried." Mia finally processed what just happened. She must be the youngest seeker in over a century!

"Thank you Professor, I won't let you down." Mia ran towards the Great Hall. She pushed open the doors and ran to James and Sirius to tell them the news.

"Mia, what happened? Do you have detention?" James asked his sister.

"If she got detention and Alecto didn't I hardly call that fair." Sirius told his friend.

"No it was nothing like that, McGonagall introduced me to Gail Wood an-." She started but before she could finish Sirius interrupted her.

"The Gryffindor Quidditch Team captain?" Sirius asked her.

"YES! She told him that she found a new seeker for the team, ME!" She told them, beaming.

"WHAT!?" They asked speechless.

"I guess she saw a seeker in me when she saw me chase the pin." She told them.

"You must be the youngest seeker in a century!" James told her, pulling her into a tight embrace.

"Congratulations!" Sirius told her, joining the hug.

"I can't wait to tell Remus. Is he out of the hospital wing?" Mia asked, still smiling.

"We tried to go see him but Madame Pomfrey wouldn't let us in." James informed her.

"Oh well, I hope he's okay." She said.

Mia carried on with her day. They only had discussion in defense, they didn't even pick up their wands! Mia couldn't help but worry about Remus, but music class seemed to help her calm down a bit. She'd learned to play Ode to Joy with minimal effort, she continued to play her own little melodys during the class never feeling the eyes that watched her play. Afterwards in the Great Hall, she wolfed down her dinner and stood up to head to Dumbledore's office. She told the boys she was going to the library, and would check on Remus afterwards.

She walked up to a gargoyle statue and used the password,

"Chocolate Frogs."

The statue moved and she walked up a long spiral staircase until she saw Professor Dumbledore sitting at his desk with a twinkle in his eye.

"I hear congratulations are in order." He told the young girl proudly. "Minerva told me of your heroics for Miss. MacDonald today."

"Thank you sir, I'm very excited." Mia told him proudly.

"I suspect your powers may have something to do with your Quidditch abilities. If you can control elements such as ice and water I suspect you can control wind as well, it helps with your flying." He told her calmly.

"Isn't that cheating?" She asked, she didn't want a spot on the team if she didn't truly deserve it.

"Not at all. Your powers are part of your magical core which is how you control a broom, through magic. So you see you are merely more powerful which is why you can use the broom better then most. Your abilities as a seeker, that is raw talent." He explained to her simply.

"I see. Now how do we begin? Nothing out of the ordinary has happened with my powers. I suspect however, that my powers will shine through with my emotions." She told the Head Master. "I was angry at Alecto today, which is probably why I flew faster than normal. I don't want to be in the middle of a high stake situation in Quidditch or DADA and have ice fly out of my hands."

"Well first I want to see what you can do before I teach you how to control it." Dumbledore explains. He wandlessly summons a glass of water. "I would like you to turn this into ice, then back to water." He handed her the glass.

She took the glass in her hands, focused solely on the water. The glass started to grow cold as the water turned into ice. She closed her eyes and thought about it turning back into water. She opened her eyes to see the ice had turned back into water.

"As is suspected, your powers are growing stronger." Dumbledore told her. He summoned a pot of soil, and placed a seed into the pot gently. "Now I would like to test a completely new element, earth. I need you to concentrate on growing the seed." He handed her the pot.

She held the pot in her hands, focusing on it, and watched it grow slowly. Her eyes widened as she watched a sunflower grow in the pot.

"Very good, wind you can test on another day during a quidditch match. I've saved this one for last. Fire, now for this you must have focus. I would like you to try and summon a ball of fire in your hands." He told her. He could sense the worry in her starting to rise.

"Fire? In my hands? Won't that hurt?" Mia said worriedly.

"The elements are a part of you, they can't hurt you unless you let them." Dumbledore explained calmly.

"Okay." She said. She pictured a ball of fire growing in her hands. Mia felt a slight amount of heat as she opened her eyes. There was a ball of fire just blazing in her hand! Her hands started to shake. 'This is dangerous, this is to much power. I can't control it. What if I hurt someone, Lily? Sirius? Remus?...James' Mia thought as she started to panic. The sleeve of her robes started to catch fire. She could hear Dumbledore whispering spells to stop the fire but nothing was putting it out. The heat was becoming to much for her, before she could even have another thought...Mia fell into darkness.
