I Don't Own Yugioh
I yawned to myself as I looked out at the group of students all watching each other, all clear;y waiting on the woman next to me to start the meeting. Though it make me realize I didn't ask her name earlier while I was blackmailing her. I thought about asking now just to watch to see how that would effect the slight bit of tension in the air but instead I played it a bit more comfortable and just nodded her forwards, smirking to myself as I watched as she glared at me before walking forwards.
"Hello everyone, I'm glad to see you all are here" It was clear she wasn't, after all, I was pretty clearly looking around and making note of every single face here just in case she thinks she can break this up I'll still have the ability to point them all out in a line up.
"As you all can see...he's a bit touchy about his appearance, but don't mind that, he's a power duelist all the same so if anyone wants a good challenge he's here" Yeah, I didn't bring my jack and I was wearing a black scarf at the moment, which was brought up to cover the lower part of my face which was basically as good as a full body suit going by anime logic. The darkness of the night also helped but with this many people here, I didn't see a reason to risk it so much. I might act a bit reckless to get into a situation like this in the first place but I'm not an idiot.
"With that you all can pair up and get your own antes up" As she said that she quickly walked away from me as I noted the large number of people here. At least thirty, and judging from the large clearing and the open space in between the trees, some naturally seemed to head to, there was normally maybe a couple more, maybe another dozen. For a school with about two thousand students, about fifty might not seem like a lot, but it was still something. Much more with the fact that that girl pulling the strings is pretty new to this, it was clear with how easily I caught her off guard. Meaning more and more will join later on.
"Hey!" I turned and blinked as I noted that the teen in question seemed to stomp up to me before saying in a somewhat harsh tone which I wasn't sure I deserved...yet.
"I challenge you. If I win I want you to leave me and my group the hell alone!" Oh? Fun, it would be interesting to see what all she has, as she must be something of a good duelist if she can manage this many people, with the clear mix of respect going around. Plus, this let's me segue into something else that I was planning for this little group.
"Of course, this won't be a probably, but if I win, I need you to get some of your tiny little minions to go and get some rarer cards for me. It's clear that this group plays with antes, but that's just in trading after a while so it's clear your getting new cards from somewhere, probably getting some income off it as well but I won't bother with that at the moment" She just stared at me a moment as I gave her an amused look, as much as I could with the scarf I was using as a mask.
"You-...Fine! It won't matter after I crush you!" I didn't bother to use my mouth and instead just gave an eye smile as I was now getting use to the lower half of my face covered so I don't have to put on some expression to help piss someone off. Anyway, the two of us just walked a couple feet away from each other as I watched as she activated her duel disk for a moment as she seemed to wait on me as I thought about something as I called out.
"Hey, by the way, what's your name?" That seemed to shock her for a second before saying.
"Rose, it's Rose" Not giving me a last name? Maybe as a minor protection so I can't just turn her in from name alone, it won't take to long to find her last name out. Still, thoughts and plans for later as I reached down before giving it a moment of thought before slotting one of my decks into my duel disk, the two disks connecting as our life points flashed up in front of us.
Kyu: 4000
Rose: 4000
"I've seen how you duel, so I'll be nice and give you the first move" Her sarcasm was beyond clear, but I just smiled as I drew out my five cards into my hand as I looked them over for a moment to see what all I had to work with. I would have preferred the extra card just naturally but I can make due with what I have all, what's one extra card when I can have two?
"I activate Pot of Greed, obviously drawing two cards" I pulled said two cards out and looked them over as they joined my hand for a moment before calling out.
"Now, I activate my field spell, Mountain, I'll get to it's effect in a moment, but first I summon Red-Eyes Wyvern(1800/1600) in attack mode, now because of Mountains effect, Wyvern's attack and defense both increase by 200 points(2000/1800), next I'll be placing a card face down and end my turn" She seemed to be quite surprised at the sight as our surroundings morphed until it looked liked we were in the air, over looking a long mountain range. She was expecting my burn deck, and I had figured this would help if she had made a counter for it, but going by her smile, I feel like using my burn deck would have been smarter.
"Interesting, but now it's my turn! I draw!...First up, I activate a continuous spell card, The World Tree, then all I'll do is set one monster face down and end my turn" It was short but I didn't trust it, though a plant deck...With a name like Rose and the world we're in, I should have expected that. I'm pretty sure plants have a lot of effects but that's all I can remember.
"Neat, I draw... Up first, I play a spell card called Double Summon, it's pretty self explanatory so I'll just get onto the summoning itself. First up I summon out, Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4 in attack mode also boosted by the Mountain(1800/1200), and next I tribute my Red-Eyes Wyvern to summon out Luster Dragon #2 also effected by the mountain(2600/1600)" I watched as the two took to the field for a moment, just enjoying the sight before deciding to be a bit risky as I called out.
"Horus attack the face down" The smallish low leveled dragon blasted out a small ball of black flames which instantly destroyed the set down card as I watched as the monster flipped up and was sent to the grave before Rose suddenly called out.
"Thanks, you just destroyed Dandylion, who when sent to the grave can special summon two Fluff Tokens(0/0) both in defense mode" I just hummed at that as I thought it over for a second before calling out.
"Luster Dragon, attack the token on the right, then I end my turn" The dragon followed my command and with that there was only one, minor, defense monster on the field, the only thing I was worried about was her using it to tribute something but keeping both on the field would be an even worse move so I did what I could. But that doesn't mean I'm finished just yet.
"Now since my turn has ended, Horus my LV4 dragon's effect activates, since it destroyed one of your monsters in battle, I can now send him to the grave and bring out Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6, with a 200 mark up of course, (2500/1800)"
"Cute, I draw. Now I summon Lonefire Blossom(500/1400) in defense position, now I activate it's effect, by tributing my token, I can instantly summon out any plant monster in my deck, and the one I pick to crush you with is...Talaya, Princess of Cherry Blossoms (2800/1200), but it's not over yet, her effect activates and she gains 100 attack for every plant monster on the field, (2900/1200), now Talaya destroy that pathetic Luster Dragon #2!" I just grinned before calling out.
"I don't think so, I activate my trap card, Spikesheild with Chain, instantly boosting Luster Dragon #2's attack by 500(3100/1600), which means you're taking damage instead of me" She just frowned as I watched her life points tick down.
Kyu: 4000
Rose: 3800
"Just because I fell for that doesn't mean anything, I end my turn" I just nodded to her like I was just going along with her words while I actually was pretty deep in thought, that plant with a few more monsters on the field could certainly pose a problem to me. While I have a few cards that I could use to over power it even if it does get over this 3100 barrier, it might take me a while to draw them, I need to get rid of it now then. This shouldn't be a problem.
"I'm sure, I draw" I pulled out my next card before almost sighing in a mix of relief and minor frustration. I do love a good back up plan, still, this wasn't what I really needed at the moment but I can make it work.
"First I set one card face down, and then I'll be summoning out another dragon, I'm sure you already understand the Mountain's effect so I'll just go straight to the numbers when I summon out Blackland Fire Dragon(1700/1000), now, Luster Dragon #2 attack that weed" I said weed because I had no idea what it's name was, it was way to long for me to bother to remember, but it worked the trick as I watched the monster get destroyed and her life points tick down just a bit more.
Rose: 3600
"Now, Blackland Fire Dragon, destroy the Lonefire Blossom" With another burst of flames the plant was gone, no damage since it was in defense mode but that won't matter with this.
"And finally up, Horus attack her life points directly, from there I think this will be a great time to use my Dragon's Gunfire, I'll save you the details, but you take 800 extra life points of damage" In Horus' lower leveled state, it was just a small black ball of fire, now it was a roar of black flames with a tint of purple to it as she yelled out as her life points shot down even more.
Rose: 300
"Damn it! Don't think this is over!" I just called out right back at her as she said that.
"Well, let's see it then. Because so far, I got to say I'm not impressed" She just glared at me as she called out in a near rageful tone.
"I draw! Then I play Pot of Greed, getting two more cards, now I use my continuous spell cards effect, as it's been gaining counters every time you destroyed one of my face up plant monsters, you've destroyed three so far, so I get three counters, and I'm using all three to bring back from the dead my Talaya, Princess of Cherry Blossoms (2800/1200)! But don't you dare think I'm done just yet, you've pissed me off and now your going to pay!" I just gave her an unimpressed eyebrow raise to which she just laughed before calling out.
"Now I play my spell card Mark of the Rose, by banishing my Dandylion from my grave I can equip this to one of your monsters and then take control over it, and I'm taking that Luster Dragon #2 you seem so proud of!" Ok, that was a bit more of a problem, 3100, plus 2800 wasn't exactly something to sneeze at.
"But that's not all, I still have my normal summon after all, and I'm summoning out Botanical Lion, who gains 300 attack for each plant monster I control(1900/2000), but who says I have to stop there! I activate Raging Mad Plants, meaning I get another 300 attack to my plant monsters for every plant monster in the grave, to bad I only had one!(3200/1200)(2200/2000)" Now, this was certainly what I would like to call a problem, hmm, this is pretty fun.
"Now! Luster Dragon destroy that Horus! And you Botanical Lion attack that pathetic Blackland Fire Dragon!" It was from practice that I didn't wince out of reaction as the attacked seemingly slammed into my dragons before going past them and buffering into me. It was weird, and kind of tingly the feeling as I watched my life points drain.
Kyu: 2900
"Time for my revenge! Talaya, Princess of Cherry Blossoms, destroy him!" It would be my first defeat, yeah, no, I'd rather not. So with that I did the only reasonable thing to do, I pissed her off even more as I called out.
"Yeah no, I'm good. I activate Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, negating the attack" Her vindictive rage seemed to continue for a moment as her smile seemed to stick in place before a sneer spread out of it as she angrily, near screaming out, said.
"I end my turn!" I just shrugged like I wasn't as bothered as I actually was when something interesting happened, both her plant monsters suddenly blew the hell up. I just raised an eyebrow at her as she looked on in shook before looking down at a spell card on her duel disk which she had yet to discard out of anger. Raging Mad Plants, it must have had been the thing to destroy her plants, as there had to be some draw back for the ability to insanely increase one's monster's damage. Though my Luster Dragon was still on the other side of the field, it was better but I'm still at a disadvantage.
"Nice to know you really do know your deck inside and out, really helped you there. Whatever, I draw" I needed something beyond lucky to get me out of this, sure I could stall for another turn or two but the second she gets another plant on the field then my chances of winning are going to go down hill like crazy. So when I saw the card I drew, I couldn't help have to hold in my laugh. It was from those card packs I had won not even a few hours ago, I had dismissed it because I had only looked at the card art, but after looking again, I noticed something, it was the anime version.
"I play the Card of Sanctity, meaning both of us draw until we both have six cards in our hands" She just glared at me even as we both drew, though I have to say I was almost disappointed in my selection until I got to the last card before actually laughing, not bothering to muffle myself at the sight of it. Heart of the cards huh? I think I should pick up gambling because this is beyond lucky.
"Now, I activate Hammer Shot! You know, I almost took this out of my deck, I'm pretty glad I didn't, you see what this little buddy does is it destroys the highest attack point monster on the field, and since there is only one here, say good bye to my Luster dragon" Her eyes widened as a massive hammer came down from no where, crushing my dragon in a way that I kind of felt like frowning, it was my dragon after all, but no time for that.
"Now then, I'll be summoning out the only monster I got from those six cards, it would be to bad with how weak it is, but then again, from the looks of things, it's not like you have anything you can protect yourself with is there? I summon Stealth Bird, who as a Winged-Beast gets my Mountains Boost (900/1700)" Was I being a bit of a jerk by dragging this a bit out and insulting her, well obviously, but I was in a really good mood so I don't give a damn as I called out.
"Stealth Bird, destroy her!"
Rose: 0
I hadn't noticed right away but Stealth Bird was blue and it's body seemed to shift as it flew forwards and attacked, it reminded me of something but I just pushed it away as I watched as her life points drained down to zero as she looked on in shock for a long moment before dropping to her knees like she was in shock.
I knew she couldn't see it but I still smiled to myself...It was fun, not to mention a really close duel, one card out of place from either of us, and one of us would have lost, and in the end of the day, we both got really lucky on our draws, I just happened to be luckier. Walking up to Rose, I just looked down at her for a moment before saying to her after a moment to at least let her collect herself somewhat.
"Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 and Red-Eyes Black Dragon, those are the two cards I want you to look out for, though some dragon support would be nice. A deals a deal after all...not to mention the blackmail material but this is a nice incentive. Anyway, I'm going to head out now. See ya" With that I gave her a wave before turning and walking away. This was a lot more fun than I figured it would have been, all in all, this was worth it, and I even got a small group in my pocket, even if most of them don't know it yet.
Something was different, and I couldn't tell what it was yet which was really messing with me. I always notice when I bother to pay attention which is almost always, and yet I couldn't put my finger on it as I looked around again, the feeling that I was being watched increasing more than ever recently. But nothing was around here, so what the hell. After a moment I just shook my head before continuing on my walk.
"Oh hey, it's you!" I blinked as my eyes snapped in the direction of the sound only to be slightly disappointed as my gaze leveled on the form of Jaden as he looked back at me with that goofy smile. I thought about it for a second before deciding that I didn't really have anything else to do right now.
"Yep, it is me, and your you" He blinked to himself for some reason before suddenly saying something completely out of left field, saying.
"And that's a bird?" I blinked at that before turning to look at what he was seeing, only to suddenly realize something, a bird was on my shoulder, a god damn bird is on my right shoulder, and I never noticed...How?! I could feel it's weight, not much to be fair but it was noticeable all the same, and yet...that feeling was gone, what? That's all I can really think right now. What?
"It would appear so" Just because my mind was occupied by internal screaming doesn't mean I don't know how to multitask as I watched the bird take flight after a moment, soaring away from us, and that's when I saw it, or more accurately, I saw nothing and it made me realize something. As it flew into the open sky, it's body, blue and almost forever shifting seemed to blend in almost to well and after only a few seconds of flying away I could no longer see it. A stealthy bird, Stealth Bird. My god damn card. What the actual fuc- hell.
"Um, why did you have a bird on your shoulder?" I heard it but I didn't really process it, even as words came out of my mouth as I was still to busy thinking. Duel Spirits, those were a thing right? In this show anyway, though I kind of just mostly forgot about that out of not seeing a reason to care, but now, I think I have a pretty damn good reason to start. One of my own cards has been stalking me for almost two months. Maybe? It's naturally hard to see, and it's a bird so I'm not sure it can talk, especially when being stealthy is it's thing, but still.
"Honestly, not sure, but then again I don't comment on the fact that you have a little fuzz ball that follows you around" Jaden's eyes widened a bit as I noted what I had said about two seconds after I had said that. This would be real awkward if Kuriboh hasn't shown up yet, but I'm pretty sure the fuzzy thing has so it's probably fine.
"You know about Winged Kuriboh?" I just blinked at him for a moment as I absently looked around, making sure I wasn't about to be interrupted by another bloody spirit before saying to him.
"Yeah" He just looked looked at me for a short moment before smiling to himself before saying.
"Cool! I just recognized you from the expelling duels, anyway, I'd love to chat but I gotta get to class, Sy's probably waiting on me!" With that he took off sprinting towards the main class building...Today's Sunday though, so why is he... I'm just going to chalk it up to the fact that he's kind of dumb and move on with my life by going back to my internal screaming about birds. I feel like this is a fair reaction to be honest.
I have a duel spirit? I wasn't sure what I should do with this information, though at least I can keep an eye out for it now, now that I actually know what I'm looking for this time. It was a bit annoying that I never noticed but it's a monster that's whole design is made to be hard to see, not to mention the spirit thing which might be it's whole other thing, like how Jaden took a while to actually see that fuzz ball instead of just hearing it. I've been noticing it for a long while now but never seeing it, maybe it's the same?
If that's the case then where did Stealth Bird even go? It, he? She? Should I debate gender for a card bird? Whatever, it just flew off and I have no idea where it headed to, just that it seemed to fly off towards the mountain area of the island, I think, it was hard to tell with how hard it was to see as it flew off...This entire thing is so strange, though I'm mostly curious about why I have a duel sprint, and why it was Stealth Bird instead of one of my other, much more used, cards. I mean I've only used Stealth Bird once at this point.
Besides all that I also need to think about what this actually means for me as well, I mean, it's not that big of a deal right now, but for all I know, having a duel spirit is going to put a hit on my back later on in canon. This is going to be a minor problem I feel like. At least it might be a bit more interesting than everything I've dealt with so far. At the very least I'm feeling even less bad about having that Rose chick go and get me some better cards. Though I already didn't feel bad about, so maybe that shouldn't count.
Moving on, maybe it's about time that I go and talk to Alex and do that whole reveal thing, after all, he might know more about this world's plot than I do, which wouldn't be to hard so it'd be a nice advantage. Winter break or holiday or whatever the academy is calling it, so I should bring it up before hand and see if he's going to stay over the break, with his family, I'm assuming he's going to try and stay but it might not be a grantee if he's family pushes it.
If I tell him before he leaves then he might come up with some things on his own that I'd rather not him think about so it would be best to get it all out of the way before then. I'll tell him tonight then, we still have a few weeks until then, so I might be acting a bit paranoid but overreacting is kind of a big thing in this world.
I blinked as I looked around as a Slifer coated girl moved quickly to get out of my way as I walked through the halls . This wasn't an uncommon thing to be honest, a lot of people seem to look at me with a weird mixture of worry. At least the first years, most of which in Slifer and Ra, I've dueled and crushed in one way or another, through the few tournaments I've signed up for or class duels. Each and every one of them I have yet to in once.
It doesn't help that at some point I started to hold onto cards during especially boring duels so I could make a combo to send someone from 4000 to zero life points in a single turn, which is hard to do with my main deck. Which is probably why I've seen to have gained a reputation, I didn't really care about it but it was something interesting to make note of. I wasn't exactly threatening looking on my own if I'm not trying to be, which I wasn't, so the fear is solely from the fact that I'm pretty good at a children's card game.
Anyway, I've arrived at my destination as I looked over the packs of sandwiches, so far I've only gotten really one good thing from this, the other thing I got from this was given to my from Alex, though it did come from this box so I guess it counts. Anyway, time to test my luck again, though I made a small note, as I pulled out a sandwich, that the older woman that I still didn't know the name of seemed to focus on me, well, more the package. It would seem that the eggwich thing is starting up then. I never did find that hobo student, though now I have a new incentive if he's starting to gather good cards.
I still don't really get how this works though, for one, there isn't anything to protect the cards from the sandwiches even if they don't damage them it's a bit of a risk for the cards, and to be honest, I don't remember this card factor bonus from the show, but I wasn't going to complain, with that I pulled the sandwich out and removed the card as well, giving it a look over with my free hand as I placed the wrapper between my arm and chest so I wasn't littering as I had both my hands full.
The Creator? I vaguely remember this card, level eight, so two tributes...but it lets me have a lot more grave power than what some of my spell and trap cards can manage, in fact I could probably swap a few cards out if I add this in, plus Mountain as a field spell also effects thunder monsters so it still works in my deck. Alright, all in all, pretty good pull, now for my sandwich. With that I took a bit, before frowning. Tuna.
Normally that would be a good flavor for most people but I really don't like seafood, the most I eat from that food category is shrimp on the rare occasion, so this wasn't a nice draw for me, but the card made up for it so I didn't complain. Doesn't change that fact that I don't like wasting food. After a moment I just sighed before continuing to eat the sandwich, just because I didn't like the taste didn't mean I was going to chuck it in the trash, that would be a waste.
Anyway that's my week schedule done, tournament won, and drew a sandwich, now al I have to do now is talk to Alex again, isn't that going to be interest. I wonder how that's going to go. Only one way to find out I guess.
"Yo, I need to talk to you about something" He just stared at me for a second before moving to the side as I walked into his room, looking a bit confused as he did. That was probably from the fact that I was using a more serious tone than normal, and by that I mean I wasn't sounding bored or mildly amused which was good enough.
"Um, sure dude, come on in, what did you want to talk about" I just dropped down on his bed, which honestly at this point was just my chair in this room. I felt like making a joke about how I was on his bed more than mine but I feel like that would ruin the subject I was about to bring up, even if it would be hilarious to see his reaction. I'll try to remember to make that joke later, but for now, serious topic time.
"I could lead you into this so you can figure it out yourself but I'd rather be blunt" He frowned at that as he pulled the chair to his desk out before sitting down in it so he was facing me, clearly not knowing where this was going, and a bit nervous on top of it.
"You're from another world" He blinked at that for like half a second before his face changed in one of pure shock, his eyes widen and for the first time I think I've seen true panic come over his face, like his mind had just blanked out. I was right, it was a good ninety percent chance I was but damn if this would have been awkward if I got it wrong.
"W-what? Uh. No! No, I'm not!" I just leaned back a bit and let him panic for a short moment. Not out of enjoying it, though it was a bit funny, no, I find that it helps when someone at least has a moment to process before continuing on, it helps with digesting information, but this should have been long enough so I just said.
"Yeah you are, it's not that big of a deal" He was still panicking but that seemed to stop him form freaking out at least as he's panicked face slowly changed back to one of confusion as he asked in clear disbelief.
"It's not?" I just nodded before saying back to him.
"Yeah, it's a pain in the- well you get the idea, but it's not something you should be panicking about" I really miss being able to curse, it interrupts my flow in conversation, I've mostly gotten use to it and it's pretty easy to censor myself when I want to but I do get caught on it every now and again.
"B-but! I...Shouldn't you also be panicking! I mean, your friend is from another world!" I just shrugged at that before saying.
"Well, I mean, I'm also not from here either so I would have to be hypocritical to be panicking over you" I think I broke him, Alex just seemed to blank out again as he stared at the wall past me for a long moment before saying after what must have been at least a full minute.
"What?" I just smiled slightly to myself at that before saying.
"Yeah, I'm from another time, about sixteen years in the future where this was just a simple card game and not a way of life. Sound familiar?" He just stared at me for a moment before sighing to himself before dropping into his seat for another long moment as I decided to patiently wait on him. A moment later he said.
"How did you figure out I wasn't from here?" He seemed to be trying to grasp all of what I was saying, like he was trying to understand how this was happening so I just said.
"I was curious about that phone call you had that you didn't want to answer so I looked into it. It wasn't hard, I figured it out in like an hour's work" He just continued to stare at me for a moment, before he seemed to get a tad bit angry.
"You knew for this long and you didn't tell me! Why did you even invade my privacy like that!" He wasn't sure how to react and as such was defaulting to anger as he isn't sure how else to react. A bit annoying but totally expected.
"I was bored which is the reason of why, besides that I didn't tell you earlier because honestly I just wanted to confirm fully before I made an idiot of myself. Though to be honest I don't think it's that big of a deal to be honest" Alex let out a strangled laugh at my words before saying.
"Not a big deal? We're in Yugioh! How is this not a big deal!" He was doing honestly a pretty good job at coping all things considered with how stressful this must be to the average person, still I replied back with.
"Because there is nothing we can do about it, and that's all there is to it really. I mean while yelling damnations at the sky is one way of spending time, it isn't going to help either of us so I just don't bother with it" He just stared at me for a moment before laughing shortly to himself at that before saying.
"Of course, nothing effects you does it? Nothing!" He almost seemed a bit spiteful over that fact but I just shrugged again and said.
"It's just how I am really, it's convenient sure for this, but it does come with draw backs, emotion problems aren't really fun to deal with you know" He didn't seem to know what to say to that for a moment before sighing, his anger seemingly deflating. Yeah, I figured that would work, he isn't the type of guy whose good at staying angry. Add into the fact that I bring up something I've struggled with my entire life that he was starting to be jealous of and that anger goes to shame. I wasn't exactly proud of it, but him being angry at me didn't do anything for either of us.
"I...sorry, it's just... I don't know what to do with this information" I could give him an easy answer for that one.
"That easy, nothing" He looked up in shock at that with how obvious I had said it but it was true, but I guess he needed that to be explained it a bit, it wasn't a bad thing though.
"Nothing has really changed, we just mutually know something else about each other now, it doesn't change the situations we both are in, it doesn't change who we are as people, and it doesn't change how we interact with others. Frankly I've just been treating this as a fun fact more than anything" He looked at me for a moment for a moment before laughing a small bit.
"You really don't give these things the amount of seriousness they deserve... Fine, I guess your right, doesn't mean I can't just ignore it though" I did the thing again were I just shrugged before saying something, I seem to do that a lot.
"That's fine, like I said, we're two different people, you can handle this however you want, and I'll do the same" He just sighed to himself for a while as he thought about something or another, I just let him as I waited. I would have said something but this would help him understand all this information so might as well give him this. A little while later he said.
"What, I'm not even the main character!" I blinked at that as I turned my focus back on to him as he frowned in clear disappointment at something, though I had no real idea as to what, I mean we both could technically be the main characters. Still, I raised a questioning eyebrow at him to which he reddened a bit at his random outburst before saying in a more subdued voice.
"All Yugioh main characters have 'Yu' some where in there name, 'Yu'gi, 'Yu'ma, 'Yu'ya, and so on, and you're name is Kyu, it has 'Yu' right there" Huh, I knew that but I didn't really think about it much, but he did have a point, wasn't that a strange happenstance, I know it wasn't on purpose, this was practically a second name to me long before I arrived here were it became my only name.
"Huh, I wonder if you're my rival or best friend then...You might be the female protagonist" He just huffed at that before pointing out.
"You're the only one here that looks anything like a girl" He wasn't wrong, I've never been much of a manly man, but my hair was only at about my shoulders at the moment, it wasn't even as long as I use to wear it so I'm just going to ignore that for the time being. It doesn't bother me but it doesn't fit as well at the moment.
"Eh, I'd rather not be gender bent, so how about we break the mold? I'll be player one and your player two, no main character and those tropes just two people playing a game together" I pulled that out of no where but he seemed to get a chuckle from it, along with seemingly liking the idea that he wasn't some side character in someone else's story, though that might very well be the case, I don't think he would like that information, nor would I want to deal with him knowing about it either.
"Deal, I can live with that... Thanks dude, for telling. It's kind of clear your not a normally nice guy but you still help me out and hang out all the same even if you seem bored all the time. It's really helped me deal with all this, and you trusting me with something you could have kept to yourself... it's just nice that you trust me" His face was burning as he looked away, I just let myself smile a bit before saying.
"It's no problem, you're easily the most fun person I know so it's kind of mutual" That seemed to make him feel better, even if I didn't go on as long as he did, it had the same sentiment more or less, which was something I struggled with and he seemed to know.
I was sitting at the moment on a bench that was looking out towards an ocean, as I sighed to myself, it was Monday at the moment, and I was skipping class at the moment. Alex didn't know, but this wasn't the first time I've done this so he'll probably just roll his eyes and just continued on with class. The reason why this wasn't the first time I had skipped was because I was bored out of my mind in there.
It both does and doesn't help that I already know everything they're talking about. I can catch up on the entire days lessons by just spending like ten minutes looking it over. Sure Banner's class was technically called alchemy, but really it's just chemistry which I aced in high school and while it had been a while, I still knew more than enough to skip it without issue.
As to why I was skipping, to be honest, I wasn't sure. I just wasn't feeling all that well today and listening to some idiot teachers babble on for eight hours just didn't sound fun. Might be that tuna sandwich from yesterday coming back to haunt me for not tossing it. It would be a bit surprising as I'm not usually one that gets sick easy but it's totally possible even if a bit unlikely. So here I was, just watching the sea as I listened to the sounds of the ocean.
At least I was when I felt a familiar feeling, moving my gaze up a bit more, I frowned to myself as I thought about it for a moment before turning my head to look at my shoulder which a bird was currently perched on. It's back then, so I can't just try to think of it as a fever dream. Unfortunate, but I already assumed that even my admittedly kind of crazy mind wouldn't make this up.
"Hey there, so your my stalker huh?" The bird just turned it's head and looked at me, not making a single sound. A mute like I figured then. Interesting. A mute sky colored monster in the shape of a bird, and I thought my life was already a tad bit weird already. The thought made a small smile tug on my lips. The bird just turned it's head to the side in a questioning way, lucky for me I happen to be good at reading expressions, though I never thought I would use it in this way, though it did make me notice that the bird's ears looked like bat ones, weird.
"I'm not angry, anger is a dumb emotion, besides, you've been around me for a long time now right Stealth? You should know how I am by now" It seemed to try to chirp but no sound came from it, I'll take that as a confirmation. Still, Stealth? A decent enough name for right now, it's not like it has a proper one that I can learn. Heh, maybe I should go and buy a Ouija board for it. It. It is a bit impersonal, he? she? Does it truly matter? No? Eh, I'll about it ask later if I still care.
"..." I blinked as I looked back over at the bird as it tried to squawk something, no, it knew it couldn't it was to regain my attention as it hopped to change direction on my shoulder as it pointed off a little ways away. It saw something in that direction and it seems that it wants me to go there, or at least informing me something is happening...Ah, I don't think Stealth likes that I always seem to be bored, that's nice, I don't particularly like it either.
"Well, I don't really have anything else to do I guess" With that I stood but before stretching a bit as I headed in the direction that Stealth had taken off in. It was still hard to see him, but now that I knew what to look for, it was much easier to at least make out the outline of the bird as it flew. If I didn't know that then I don't think I would be anywhere close to being able to follow it with my eyes as I walked on forwards.
Walking onward still, I just started to hum to myself as I made my way to the cliff side I was being lead to. I wasn't sure what was going on but I didn't really see a reason to not to so I just continued on as I thought about what the bird was wanting me to see. That question was quickly answered as I looked out at the form of a monkey, who seemed to be in the middle of a duel with Jaden...What? I've technically been in a lot weirder situations, but what just seems to be a good word to describe my feelings on all of this.
"What the actual hell" I just said it to draw attention to my as I walked up as Stealth flew back onto my shoulder, it was to light to be a burden so I just pretended the bird didn't exist at the moment as everyone's eyes turned to look at me. I wasn't sure why since I was most certainly not the strangest thing in this clearing. Though after a moment I did begin to remember this episode, doesn't mean I found this situation anyless stupid.
"I usually find things ike this to be interesting but I'm more confused anything at the moment, so would someone mind explaining why Jaden is dueling a monkey" I just said it so they could explain everything so I could get away with already knowing about this. Which they did, though I did catch onto something as they explained it.
"Wait, it's named Wheeler? Really? Damn that's petty" Everyone seemed confused at that, even Jaden as he turned back to his duel, seeing that no one else had a few more brain cells, I just rolled my eyes and said.
"Considering the island this is taking place on, it mean's that this is Kaiba's project, ignoring the fact that this is almost certainly illegal, it means that Kaiba named a dueling monkey after Joey Wheeler" Jaden seemed to get a laugh out of it but no one else responded, probably because this is still technically a high stakes duel, I mean if Jaden loses, that girl who is on the side of the cliff might die, but I mean, I don't care about that. He'll win so might a well get a laugh in. It might also have been about the whole illegal animal experiments as well but that besides the point.
With that I just yawned to myself as I watched the duel go back and forth between the two. It wasn't anything special, though I was mostly using this time to also come up with a few plans in my mind. Blackmail, it seems, is going to be my bread and butter in this world I guess. I seem to think about it a lot at any rate. Anyway, moving on, I noted something about Jaden's deck, it really isn't that good.
Sure elemental heroes are good but he mostly just seems to wait until he gets a polymerization then fusion summons something. Then again, I can't really say anything, I'm fine with admitting that my dragon deck is nowhere near prefect, the number of missing key cards show that, not to mention the fact that I'm not the best deck builder around which I will freely admit.
Anyway, the three goons next to me mentioned something along the lines of animal abuse, so that's more material. Note to self, get a voice recorder at some point, it'll make this easier for me. Though I was now getting a bit annoyed at the three, I really don't like people that mistreat animals. For as much of a bad person I am, I'm not heartless, so that really annoyed me. I noted the sleep dart gun the big one's hand as well as I let a few entertaining ideas go in and out of my head.
A part from that, I noted something, they were calling out attack names, it was interesting to hear, since I don't think I've actually dueled against many who do that. Just one of those things I guess, anyway a pack of monkeys just showed up around us which was interesting. Turns out those monkeys are Wheeler's family, which was weird, from the sounds of things Wheeler was with this experiment for years now, those monkeys should not be able to remember him, especially with how different he looks in that gear.
Anime logic, you just can't fight it I guess. Anyway, from there Jaden won pretty quickly, I just yawned again as I didn't bother to run up with the rest. I was more busy as I looked over to the three goons before saying to them.
"You know, I recommend leaving these animals alone" The short one, which seemed to be the one in charge just huffed in an annoyed amused was before saying.
"No chance you kid, now move aside" I just shrugged at that as I was about to bring up my first bit of blackmail as a smile pulled on my face when I was interrupted by Jaden as he ran up and threw his arms out to the side, stating they weren't going to take Wheeler...Great, I can't really blackmail and stay in a good light at the same time. I mean I could, but then I'd have to deal with them which I don't want to, not to mention I'm sure Kaiba wouldn't take this laying down...but it would be fun... Nah I'll let it go this time. I'm probably already blackmailing enough already.
With that I just walked off while everyone was auguring, it would turn out fine, it did in the show after all, and I'm fine with putting my faith in for that so I don't have to do something I find boring.
"So we have a break coming up soon, you got any plans?" Alex seemed to think about that for about only a second before sighing to himself as a frown marred his face. I'll take that as an unwilling yes.
"Yeah, my...family is pressuring me on returning to the summer home. I don't know hwy though, when I'm around all they do is tell me to practice dueling or tell me to act more proper, all of which I can figure out from here" I hummed to myself as I thought about it for a moment before saying.
"It's to insight loyalty" Alex just got that confused look on his face so I decided to explain it in a bit more detail than just that.
"They still think you're their original brat, who was spoiled, and honestly from what I know from your family I doubt the original owner of that body would have liked Ra's accommodations. So by having you go back to luxury for a while, you'd appreciate your family even more, even if all you were doing was dueling or learning boring things, at least you'd not be in drab conditions. It's basic mental conditioning to see one thing as good and another bad to help forge loyalty by positive reinforcement. Especially when it's with kids, who are naturally good at accepting conditioning"
"...Did you study psychology in your past life?" He's worry at my bored assessment of basically low form brainwashing as basic was amusing, still I just answered honestly.
"Nope, I got a nice useless degree in creative writing, I never actually got around to publishing a book though. I just kind of had to learn most of this stuff when I was growing up, most of it was to understand people better but the rest was just things I found out along the way" Alex just blinked at that before shaking his head like he wasn't sure what to say to that which was an expected reaction.
"Uh, I guess I see? Yeah, not really...Why are you asking?" I noted the very clear shift in him trying to get the topic away from something he thinks isn't as awkward, so I just let him and answered.
"Because I was curious, do you think I could go with you?" He seemed shocked by that so I just grinned to myself as I continued on.
"I don't really want to go to my own family, I have no idea who any of them are to be honest, and I don't feel like acting like I know who they are. Plus, if you tell your family I'm the only one who has beaten you and I'm a friend, then it would be easy to convince them to have me over for you to practice against" Alex just looked at me for a moment, I noted a mix of amusement at the first part of my speech before frowning at the second.
"I'm not really sure I'd be able to convince them... I'm not really good at talking with most people, I'm not sure how you think it'll work when I try to talk to people who are apparently my family" He had a point so I just hummed to myself as I tilted my head to the side as I thought about it for like a second before saying.
"Then I'll coach you through it, I mean lucky for you, I happen to make up in all the social skills you lack, so if I help you through it then it should be fine, if not then I can take over and convince them myself" I could probably do it without him involved if I did a bit more research on the one that I was going to be talking to but this way I got Alex to get more use to talking with others, even if it is him lying to a degree. Though I don't think he's actually lost to anyone but me, so technically it isn't lying, it's more of a lack of charisma.
"...I'll think about it, I mean we do have a while left before I have to come to a decision right?" He seemed very nervous about the idea of it but seeing me nod seemed to give him some relief that I wasn't forcing an answer right now. I mean, if he didn't want to hang out with me over the break then that's completely fine, I won't complain but I did want to get off this island for a bit without dealing with my 'family', and taking advantage of my millionaire friend definitely came with some advantages to go with him.
"Take your time, I'm not in a rush, if you don't want to then I'm fine with just staying here, I don't really care" He seemed a bit grateful at that which was fine, still, I'm not really sure what else we should talk about at the moment so I just laid back onto his bed and looked up at the ceiling for a moment, mostly just thinking to myself when I noted a now familiar bird resting on his inactive ceiling fan. Stealth? He seemed to just be roosting, not really trying to get my attention, so he's probably just hanging around me like duel spirits seem to do.
Absently, I glanced over at Alex for a moment before looking back up at Stealth before making my decision. He's already dealing with some stress of his own, another reason why I wanted to see his place and family to see if I could do anything about it, he's frowns when they were referenced annoyed me after all. So I see no reason why to place this on him as well. I'll be fine with whatever this entails for me by dealing with it myself.
Fun fact, I do randomize the starting hands for the duels just to have somewhere to start from without doing everything myself, and even some card draws I also randomize just to make it a bit truer to the card game's luck factor. The reason I'm saying this is because Rose got a terrible starting hand and every time I chose to random draw for her, she got next to nothing useful. Fun fact, her plant deck was originally the one I was going to give to Kyu before deciding a burn stall deck fitted him much better. My point is that the plant deck used was made to be very difficult to deal with, with it's great combos and ability to bring plants from the grave, but she got like none of her overpowered traps or spells out and had a hand with mostly tributes so it took a bit of effort to make it more interesting than what her draws would give her. Anyway, See ya.
