Chapter 3

Majo-chan arrives on another world Part 1

POV: Sayuri

My name is Sayuri, I'm 13 years old. Normally, those who are on my age are spending their time enjoying their teens, going to places and experiencing exciting things. That's not how it is for me.

Because of my frail body, I have to spend my childhood going in and out of hospital. Sometimes spending a few days inside the ICU when I overexert myself. I was being admitted to the hospital so frequently that almost all the nurses and doctor had become familiar with me.

My family eventually grew tired of taking care of me so they just gave me some money and left. They abandoned me like a sick pet they can't take care of.

At first, I was devastated but eventually, I managed to get back to my feet. Now I spend most of my time playing online games. Lately, I got into a game called World Fantasy online which is a VRMMORP.

At first, I thought it was a pain to play because even if it's virtual reality, I still have to technically move my body inside a virtual world which looks tiring compared to just sitting down in front of my computer playing a game using mouse and keyboard but after a while, I started to enjoy playing it and almost spent most of my time online.

Today is no exception. I logged in to play the game as usual since there was a new event that will start today.

"Good morning, Sayuri-sama."

The NPC in maid uniform greeted me like usual.

"First off, I would to congratulate you."

The maid NPC whose name I already forgotten because of how forgettable it is said. Wait, does she even have a name to begin with?

"Congratulate me? For what?"

The maid NPC smiled and countless boxes suddenly appeared around us.

"You have been selected to be given a very special reward."

She said and pointed her hands on the countless boxes that are surrounding us.

"From these present boxes, please choose one that you would like to receive."

"I can choose any from these boxes?"

"Yes."

I can choose any from these boxes but I don't know what their content are. My Job is a mage so it would be great if I can get a legendary staff or something. Worst case scenario is I might end up getting a sword. I'm a mage so a sword will be completely useless for me.

That's why I hate gatcha games.

Well, let's just pick something and deal with it later. If it really ends up being a legendary sword, I can still have it dismantled for materials later.

"I pick this one."

I said to the maid NPC and pointed at the box that is directly in front of me. The other boxes disappeared and the box that I picked opened. An equipment set appeared from it. So, it's not a legendary sword. Thank goodness.

I took a look at the set. It was a [Witch] set. A witch hat, a black robe, a collared light blue long sleeve blouse, a black skirt with white trim, a pair of black pointy shoes and a pair of black and white gloves. A simple looking wand was also included in the set.

The set also have stats. So, it's not just an avatar skin but an actual functional equipment set.

[Witch Set]

Witch's Hat: Increases magic proficiency based on Player's level.

Witch's Robe: Increases defense based on player's level

Witch's Uniform (Blouse and Skirt): Auto Heal. Mana regeneration. Heal and Mana regeneration is based on player's level.

Witch's Wand: Increases attack power based on player's level

Witch's Gloves: Increases Spell casting speed. Gloves can only use specific type of magic.

Black Glove: Offensive spells.

White Glove: Defensive spells

Witch's Shoe: Increases Player stamina.

What is with this cheat like set. It increases my stats based on my level? The hat even increases my magic proficiency.

Magic proficiency is a newly added system to the game and the way it works is pretty simple and straight forward. The higher your magic proficiency is, the more types of magic you can cast simultaneously.

It's a system that is put in place to balance out the different jobs in the game. Mages spamming different spells from long range had been a huge problem for players with physical type jobs so the game developers decided to add the Magic proficiency system. Now, players with magic type jobs have to spend their precious skill points to also increase their magic proficiency.

This was more than enough to balance things out since payers only get limited number of skill points as they level up. Now they have to choose between being able to cast powerful spells one at a time or being able to cast several weaker spells simultaneously.

I'm not max level yet but I'm pretty high level myself. With just the [Witch Hat] and [Witch wand] alone, I can single handedly dominate the local ranking and overwhelm players who are of higher level than me.

"Is there any problem with the set you received?"

The maid NPC asked while looking at me with her facial expression that never changes. Seriously, why do they have to model this NPC's facial expression to that of a sales lady from a department store.

"No. Everything is perfectly fine."

"Well then, can I ask for your cooperation in answering a set of questions prepared for you?"

"A survey, huh? I'm fine with it."

"Thank you for your cooperation. Well then, for the first question. Do you think World Fantasy Online is more fun than reality?"

What's with this question? Well, whatever it is let's just get this over with so I can try this new set.

"Of course, it is. I actually wish this was reality instead."

There were no lies in my answer. In this game, I can do whatever I want. I don't have to worry about my health. I can walk, run, fight and talk to other players. In the real world I can't even walk to the nearby convenient store without compromising my health because of my frail body.

"Next question. Is there anybody important to you in the real world?"

Wait, isn't that question hitting a little low below the belt?

"There is none."

My parents abandoned me after getting fed up with taking care of me after all. No one ever bothered visiting me and I have to provide for myself. That is why I rely on my earnings from making online content.

"Next question. Is there anything important to you in the real world?"

"The closest thing I can think of is money. Without it I won't be able to provide for myself. Aside from that there is nothing."

I said money but I don't really have much of it. I barely have enough to pay for everything since a huge chunk of the money I earn goes to buying all my medicines that I need to take every day.

"Next question. Do you believe in God?"

"No. The world doesn't make sense even in the slightest if there is really a being called God. People have to suffer unreasonable fate and endure unbearable challenges while others gets to live an easy life without putting any effort to obtain it. For that reason, I choose not to believe in the God that people speak off."

I've been enduring my illness for as long as I can remember even though I never did anything wrong to anyone. This is just too unreasonable. I can't even go out to enjoy myself. Why do I have to suffer like this?

"Last question. Did you like the Witch Set?"

"Of course, I do."

There is no better set than this. With this I can dominate the ranking board and become the strongest player.

"Thank you for your cooperation. Well then, please enjoy this brand-new world."

The maid NPC said and the room was filled with blinding light and the next thing I knew was that I was already in the middle of an unknown forest.

"Wait? Why wasn't I teleported to my house? Maybe some bug?"

I mumbled in surprise when I saw that I was in the middle of an unfamiliar forest. I looked at myself and immediately realized that the clothes I am wearing was the Witch set that was given to me earlier.

"Well, at least I have this set on. Maybe I will open the map to see where I am exactly. It would be nice to see some monsters to practice my…"

My voice trailed off when I tried to open the status menu to look at the map but all I saw was a status board with my name, the set I currently have equipped, skill list which was mostly empty and my level which was level 1.

"What? Level 1? What is happening here."

I closed and opened the status menu several times but my status remained the same. Also, there is no log out option.

I placed my finger on my chin and assume a thinking pose.

I am level 1 and was respawned in a middle of an unfamiliar forest. Furthermore, the NPC said something before I was sent here.

"Please enjoy this brand-new world, huh."

I turned my head around and looked at my surrounding.

"Could this be one of those situations where I am sent to another world that I often read in manga and saw on anime?"

I looked at my surrounding again.

"Nah, maybe this is just a system bug. I will just go around while walk around and wait for them to resolve the issue. Would be great if this is really another world though."

I dismissed the idea of being sent into another world and started to just aimlessly walk around. The idea of being sent into another world is just too farfetched. Those kinds of things only happen on light novels.

As I was walking around aimlessly, I heard the familiar sound of an email notification. I opened my status menu to see it but there is no email inbox in the menu. What? How am I supposed to read the email if there is no inbox on the menu?

As I was looking at the status menu, a message box suddenly appeared in front of me which surprised me. I decided to read the content of the email since it might be the email from the GM that I am waiting for.

Sender: God

Congratulations, Sayuri-chan. Based on the result of the survey, you have been selected.

Clap clap clap clap (applause)

The world you are in is not the game world, but the world I manage.

In other words, this is a parallel world and it has been decided that you will live here.

Of course, sending you here as you are is just mean so I gave you a brand new and healthy body which is free of any illness so you can live a happy life without worrying about your health.

As an added bonus, I also gave you Witch set as a present.

There are also other presents so good luck looking for them.

God? Parallel world? It would have been more believable if I was summoned by a great magician instead. Also, if this is really another world, why do I still have my status board.

As I was looking at the strange email, I heard some growling and I immediately turned around to see a pack of wolf looking at me with hungry eyes and saliva dripping from their mouth.

Wait, just when did they add that kind of realism. The saliva part is just unnecessary and disgusting.

I extended my right hand in front of me to cast a spell.

"Fire ball!"

I shouted as I tried to activate my fire ball skill and to my surprise, nothing happened.

"What? It didn't activate? But I have more than enough mana."

Maybe fire magic is forbidden in forest maps so I decided to try different element type.

"Ice lance!"

Nothing happened.

"Air cutter!"

Still nothing.

I decided to try something extreme.

"Explosion!"

Still no reaction. To make matters worse, my shouting had attracted more wolves and their number is now over a dozen.

"Why is my magic not working?!"

I shouted as I stamped on the ground and suddenly, I wand materialized on my hand.

"Eh? The wand?"

Now that I think about it. They did introduce some maps into the game where you can only use a spell or skill when you have your weapon equipped. That was supposed to add more realism to the game but I just found it bothersome since they didn't give us the list of maps where that mechanic was implemented.

Well, that doesn't matter right now. What matters is me getting out of this situation out alive. The current situation is really bothering me. The thing that the NPC said, me being level 1, The realism that these wolves have.

Regardless of whether this is really another world or not, I can't afford to die here. On one hand, I have a reputation to protect. I was never killed even once in this game even after playing it for almost a year and getting killed here will tarnish my record. On the other hand, if this is really another world and I got killed, then it will be game over for me. I want to try looking for a loli fox type demi-human first!

"Here goes nothing."

I said as I pointed the want at the pack of wolves that are already beginning to surround me.

"Fire javelin!"

I shouted on top of my lungs as I tried to activate my most powerful spell and to my horror, nothing happened. All I can hear was the rustling of the tree leaves around me and the angry growl of the wolves in front of me.

"Ya-be."

I mumbled as I realized how screwed up I am. Without wasting any more time, I turned around and started to run as fast as I can. I'm not sure if I can outrun them but at least I am doing whatever I can to survive. If I get eaten here, I can at least say that I tried to survive.

I continued running until I got into a large open area. I stopped and turned around to face the wolves. Running away from a pack of wolves in an open area is not really the best thing.

This is really great. I don't have a knife or any weapon I can use to at least defend myself. All I have is a useless wand that can't be used to cast any kind of spell. Just my freaking luck.

There is only one thing I can do. And that is-

"HELP ME!"

I let out the loudest scream for help that I can hoping that someone might hear it and come save me. The chances of it working is somewhat slim though since this is the middle of a forest. If this was still inside the game then I will file a complaint to the GM later. If this is indeed another world then I will complain to whoever sent me here. That is if I somehow manage to find a way out of this mess.

Why would you send a 13year-old girl to another world and spawn her somewhere dangerous like the middle of the forest. You could have spawned me somewhere near human settlement.

While I was thinking of how screwed up my situation was, I kept my useless wand pointed at the wolves. Yeah, there is no getting out of this alive.

As I resign myself to my fate, I started trembling in fear. I don't want to die. If this is really another world, I at least want to see a loli kitsune.

As I was thinking of how badly I want to meet a loli kitsune, several spears made out of ice flew out of nowhere and hit all the wolves. The now lifeless bodies of the wolves collapsed on the ground. All of them.

Shortly after the wolves had collapse, my legs finally gave out and I fell on my knees. That was the first time I ever got that scared. I narrowly escaped death. Wait, I didn't wet myself, right?

"Are you alright?"

A voice suddenly asked me. I turned towards the source and saw a girl dressed in a cute bear costume. Wait, when did they releases such a cute costume? I want one as well.

"Thank you for saving me. For some reason, I found myself here after logging in and what more, my level has been reset to level 1 and I don't have any skills and my only gear is this witch equipment set that I got from a chest. Then I was attacked by that pack of wolves while reading this strange email and-"

"What did you just say?"

Did I say something wrong? I was just explaining my situation and she suddenly reacted like I just said something that is of great importance.

"Are you perhaps a player as well"

"Eh? What do you mean? Of course, I'm a player. There is no way an NPC will be out here in the forest wearing a combat set. Actually, why are you even wearing such a costume? Is that a limited-edition set?"

What is this girl even talking about? There is no way you can find an NPC in the middle of a forest wearing a combat set. Also, that cute costume is really cute.

The girl in the bear costume was now looking at me as if she found the person who has the answer to all the questions of the universe.

"That strange message you are talking about, is the sender perhaps God?"

"God? Oh yeah. It's an email from someone who claims to be God but I can't pull it out for some reason. Maybe a system bug?"

I tried swiping in front of me but the message won't come out anymore. The flow of things is making it more believable that I am indeed sent to another world. I actually wish that it's true but I still have to make sure that this is indeed another world.

"Listen, it might come as a shock for your but this is indeed another world."

Shock? Oh yeah, the normal reaction for people sent to another world is for them to be surprised. Well, for me, I'm just trying to confirm if this is indeed another world. Well, technically speaking, the virtual reality of World Fantasy online counts as another world. Maybe that is what she is talking about. I have to confirm if that's the case or not.

"Well, technically speaking, this is indeed another world since we are in a virtual world…"

I mean SAO also counts as an Isekai anime, right?

The bear girl let out a sigh and pulled out something from the white bear puppet on her left hand. It was a handheld mirror. She then offered it to me.

"A mirror? This is just an ordinary mirror isn't it?"

I asked as I took the mirror. I then flipped it around to look at it's back to make sure that there is no strange magic circle on it's back. One should always be cautious of the things they receive from strangers.

"Use it to look at your appearance."

"Huh? My appearance? Is there perhaps something on my…"

My voice trailed off as I look at my reflection on the mirror. Ash-brown hair and sapphire colored eyes. This is my appearance in real life and not my in-game avatar. My in-game avatar had light blue colored hair and reddish-brown colored eyes.

"Why? This isn't my in-game avatar. This is what I look like in real life."

"Do you believe me now?"

The bear girl asked with a serious expression.

This confirms that I am indeed in another world. But being sent here by God? The very existence that I had long since dismissed as a fictional being created by humanity's intelligent mind to give meaning to their existence.

"Somehow, I guess…"

That was the only answer I was able to give her. I don't really know how I should react to the current situation. On one hand, I am excited that I am in another world in a completely healthy body, based on that strange message, on the other hand, I might have been sent here to kill a newly revived demon lord or something of that scale.

I don't know if I was sent here as a hero or just an other-worlder. I really hope I'm not a hero.

"My name is Yuna. I'm also from another world. Probably the same world as you."

The bear girl introduced herself and offered me a hand to help me get up. So, she is from Japan as well? But she did say 'probably' so she isn't sure if we really came from the same world.

"Ah. Yes, I'm Sayuri. Nice to meet you, and thank you for saving me."

I introduced myself and thank her for saving me. She appears to be a nice person but the isekai manga and anime that I watched in the past had influence me too much that I can't help but feel cautious around her. She might have saved me but she is still a stranger so I have to keep my guard up just in case.

"This isn't a place to talk so we should return to town for now. I'll let you stay at my house for tonight so we can have a nice long chat. You can also ask me about anything you want to know about this world."

Yuna-san said as I brush off any dirt on my cloths. To my surprise, there is none. Is this Witch set perhaps dirt proof?

"Thanks, you're really a life- Wah! Bears!"

As I turned around, I saw two large bears in front of Yuna-san. Those are massive bears. I was so surprised that I fell backwards and landed on my butt but it doesn't hurt even the slightest.

"They are my summoned beast. The Black one is Kumayuru, the white one is Kumakyu. They are harmless and won't hurt you unless you attack them."

Summoned beast, huh. So, I'm safe as long as I don't try to attack Yuna-san or her bears? I have to make sure I don't get on her bad side, specially with how useless I am right now.

"I'll keep that in mind."

I got up and approached the bears.

"Nice to meet you, Kumayuru, Kumakyuu."

I bowed as I introduced myself to the two bears. I don't know if they can understand me but I have to be as polite as possible. Getting mauled by bears is not on the list of things that I want to happen to me.

"By the way, how old are you Sayuri?"

A random question out of nowhere.

"Ah, yes. I'm 13 years old."

I answered as I stared patting Kumayuru. This bear is surprisingly soft.

"So soft."

I turned my head towards Yuna-san and saw her staring at my chest area. It might just be my imagination. But why did she even bring her summoned beast out anyways.

"By the way Yuna-san, why did you brought out your summon beasts?"

"We are going to going to ride them to town since walking is a hustle."

Yuna-san answered as she keeps staring at my chest area. Yup, she is definitely staring at my chest. I can't really tell because of her costume, but is she perhaps, flat? I can't ask her that question. She might get pissed had order her bears to shred me to pieces.

"Riding a bear, huh. Sounds fun."

I never rode a horse but riding a bear might be fun, specially if the bear is this soft.

"You're not scared?"

Yuna-san asked with a surprised expression.

"Well, let's just say that there are a lot of things that I didn't get to experience having a frail body so if this is really another world, I want to enjoy it to the fullest and starting it off by riding a bear would be a really great start."

Well, I had been given a chance for a new life. I will enjoy it to the fullest and do the things I never got to experience in the past. Also, compared to being surrounded by a pack of wolves, riding a bear doesn't seem to be that scary since Yuna-san's bear does seems docile.

"By the way, Yuna-san."

"Hmn?"

"You had been staring at my chest area for a while now. Are you perhaps…"

I asked as I covered myself with my arms. I don't know why but this action made me a bit excited. Crap. I've read too much yuri manga and it's now influencing my way of thinking!

"O-Of course not!"

Yuna-san denied while waving her hands in front of her.

"Really?"

I asked as I took a step towards Yuna-san.

Somehow, I feel a bit disappointed and I don't know why. Yup, those yuri manga really had too much influence on me. Good thing I won't be reading them anymore.

"A-Anyway, we should head back to town before it gets dark."

"Ok. Well, I don't mind Yuna-san looking at my chest though…"

I answered and then it came to me. I never rode a horse before so how am I supposed to ride a bear. They don't even have a saddle on them.

"You ride Kumayuru, I will ride Kumakyuu."

"But I never tried riding a bear in my life. Actually, I never even thought riding a bear was possible. Can you give a tutorial on how to ride your bears?"

Yuna-san's bear are really big. They are twice my height while sitting so falling from their back while riding them will surely hurt, a lot.

I decided to climb Kumayuru's back and to my surprise, it's really soft.

"Hang on tight so you won't fall."

What Yuna-san scared me so I went and hug Kumayuru as tightly as I can. I hope I'm not hurting him.

"Y-Yes. Kumayuru, please take care of me."

"Alright, Kumayuru, Kumakyuu, let's go home."

""Kuun.""

The bears answered and started running. At first, it was scary but after a while, I finally got comfortable while riding Kumayuru. I looked towards Yuna-san who was riding kumakyuu while leading theway. I then started to look around to admire the scenery around me.

I don't know the reason why I was sent to this world but I am thankful to the opportunity given to me. I don't know what adventures lies ahead of me but I am looking forward to it.
