A/N: So this one is angsty...and tragic...and yeah be prepared for possible crying. That's all I'm saying.
Disclaimer: If I owned LoT, Len wouldn't be dead and Captain Canary would have been more than casual flirting and one kiss. So basically no, it's not mine.
Day 5: Fire Meets Fate
"We're leaving," Rip said, sounding hurried.
"Where's Raymond and Mick?" asked Leonard.
"Ray is in my pocket," Rip siad, "and Mick has elected to stay."
Leonard looked alarmed. "Why?" he demanded.
"Someone needs to be present to destroy the Oculus," Rip explained. "Mick has elected himself."
Leonard went for his cold gun and turned to head back out of the Waverider. "No, no, no, no, no, you can't. There isn't ti-"
But Leonard was already out the door, Sara chasing after him.
They fought their way back into the Oculus. Sara fought off the guards while Leonard raced to his friend's side.
"Mick," he said.
"Get outta here!" Mick yelled.
"Not without you, Mick!" Leonard yelled back, defiant as ever.
"Pretty boy said I gotta hold this stick for the ship to blow. So I'm holding the stick. Now leave!" Mick insisted.
"My old friend, please forgive me," Leonard said.
"For what?" Mick asked, and then collapsed with a grunt as Leonard hit him in the head with his cold gun, then immediately siezed the failsafe.
"Get him outta here," Leonard said, lookign at Sara.
She stared back, as defiant as he was. "No."
"Just do it!" Leonard all but ordered, and Sara understood; he needed to know his friend was safe and alive. Wordlessly, she walked over to him and kissed him, remembering idly her words from before: You wanna steal a kiss from me, Leonard? You better be one hell of a thief. He kissed her back, as desperately as she felt. She pulled away after a few moments, held eye contact for another few, and then dragged Mick out of there.
"Ray!" She called into the comms. "Firestorm! Either of you, come get Mick out of here!"
Firestorm was there first. "What about you?" he asked.
Sara looked at him. "I'm going back for Leonard. I can't just leave him."
Firestorm nodded and took the unconscious Mick away. Sara ran back inside. Leonard noticed her and looked somewhat pained.
"I said leave!" he yelled.
"Not without you!" Sara shot back. "Even if it means we both die here, I am not leaving you behind, Leonard!"
Leonard seemed to understand. Sara crossed the room to him and he pulled her in, as close as they had been when they almost froze to death in the cargo bay. And closer still, as their lips connected again in another desperate kiss.
Words were whispered, the ones that needed to be said before the end. Two hearts became one as the Legends prepared for the final explosion, as their lips brushed again, as their hearts frantically beat out adrenaline-fueled staccato rhythms, as if they knew this was the end.
There are no strings on me.
The light from the Oculus grew brighter, and Leonard closed his eyes.
"They traded their lives for ours," Ray said on the Waverider after the explosion. "They were heroes. Which I'm pretty sure is the last thing he wanted to be remembered as, though her I'm not so sure about."
There was a silence for a moment, then Jax said, "But that's what they were."
"What do you mean, heroes?"
"Yeah, you should know that by now. We're not heroes."
The Legends all turned to see Sara Lance and Leonard Snart, a little banged up but otherwise unharmed, standing side-by-side in front of them.
Sara smiled at the looks of mingled relief and confusion on the team's faces. Leonard glanced at her and hid his own smile, then turned back to the team and said:
"We're Legends."
What? You didn't think I was *really* going to kill off Len AND Sara, now did you? My whole story behind their escape this time was Sara's ingenious idea of using duct tape to hold down the failsafe lever, with Leonard's "There are no strings on me" left as a note rather than spoken words. Don't ask where Sara got the duct tape. I have no clue. Anyway, despite this being short and angsty, please review and let me know what you thought!
