A/N: I'm going to be putting Len through hell for the next few days...even though it kills me to, it's also perfect Captain Canary setups, so...that's why. Fair warning.

Disclaimer: If I owned LoT, Len wouldn't be dead and Captain Canary would have been more than casual flirting and one kiss. So basically no, it's not mine.

Day 6: Never Giving Up

"Do you always pull a Mick when you're depressed?"

Leonard looked up at Sara's words. He had been "pulling a Mick," as she'd put it - alcohol and donuts - but he didn't realize she'd picked up on his mood.

"What do you mean?" Leonard asked, avoiding the question.

Sara walked into the room and snatched the scotch from his hands. He scowled at her but figured he'd probably had enough - while he could hold his liquor almost as well as Mick could, it still probably wasn't a good idea to have too much. Sara also stole a donut, a feat which both impressed Leonard and made him shake his head.

"Well," Sara said, gesturing with the bottle, "let's see. You haven't come out of your room all day, you're acting more like Mick than yourself, and also I'm just perceptive. What's bothering you, Leonard?"

Leonard stayed silent. Sara downed the scotch and gave him a concerned look.

"I'm serious, Len, what's wrong?" Sara asked, deferring back to the nickname he only let her use. "You haven't been yourself lately."

Leonard shrugged. "Just not feeling much."

Sara's look grew even more concerned. "I've seen you 'not feeling much'. This isn't it. Leonard, talk to me."

Leonard turned away. Sara sighed. "Look, I know you don't like the whole feelings thing because I don't either, but I'm worried about you. The whole team is worried about you. Even Mick, though he tries to play it off because he's Mick." Sara sat down on the bed beside him and took his hand in hers. "So tell me, please. What's going on?"

It was Leonard's turn to sigh. "I've just been thinking a lot. About the Oculus."

Sara drew in a sharp breath. That was a subject no one was allowed to bring up with him. When Leonard had appeared back on the Waverider with little memory of how he got there, Sara had expressly forbade the Legends from asking him anything about the Oculus. Even she had never brought up the subject with him.

"Do you remember anything?" Sara asked gently.

"I remember...telling you to get Mick out of there," Leonard said slowly. "Your protest. The kiss. After that...the Time Bastards showed up right before the thing exploded. I think my final words were 'There are no strings on me.' Then...nothing. My memory shorts out. Or maybe it was just dark." He shook his head. "I don't know."

Sara gave Leonard's hand a gentle squeeze, prompting him to continue.

"I keep getting these - these random flashes of what I think are memories of what happened after the Oculus, but they're all so confusing I can't tell," Leonard confided. Sara was rather impressed by the simple fact that he was talking about this at all.

"Is there anything you want me to do? Is there anything I can do?" Sara asked. "You know I hate seeing you like this."

Leonard shrugged. "I don't know," he admitted.

Sara stood and stole another donut. "Well, first you need to stop acting like Mick. Get your ass together, Leonard, and then we'll figure out what to do about your memory fragments."

Despite himself, Leonard smirked. "Yes, ma'am."

He just liked the way she had said we.

This was one of those times where I really didn't know what was going to happen in this one until it happened. I hope you liked it, please review!
