Even with the interference from Miranda's father's mercenaries the job on Ilium went well. Jack had gone on the mission and had proven very helpful by keeping Miranda calm during the whole ordeal.
Afterwards Miranda had agreed to talk to Kelly about it and had spent a good half hour with her, much to Jack's irritation, but she admitted to Kelly as Jack drug her away that it felt good to talk and she hoped to do so again soon.
Kelly smiled and headed to the lounge area in hopes to talk to Samara but really, she wanted to sit down and go over her reports on Shepard's strike team in a quiet place. So far everyone seemed to be doing fine, even Jack seemed to be doing ok aside from taking her frustrations out on Miranda's pussy.
Samara was fine with talking for a while and invited Kelly to meditate for a while, which she accepted. Afterwards she did her reports and after sorting them in a box she headed to the desk in Shepard's room and put them in a file drawer then decided to take a short nap.
When she woke up an hour later she found herself wrapped in Shepard's arms. She was sound asleep, and Kelly could feel from her breathing that she was having a nice deep relaxing slumber. Kelly smiled at that and snuggled into Shepard's arms. The movement caused Shepard to stir so she waited till Shepard relaxed then began to drift back to sleep.
Then Joker woke them both up, "We're approaching the derelict reaper Commander."
"Fucking hell!" Kelly shouted.
"ETA one hour."
Shepard sighed and momentarily tightened her hold around Kelly before untangling herself from around her and rolling out of the bed to head over to her armor locker. Kelly watched as she stripped off her uniform, put on an under-armor skin, then began to put on the different pieces of her armor suit.
Kelly walked over to help with some of the more difficult to put on pieces. Shepard smiled at her and Kelly could tell that she wasn't looking forward to this mission, and she knew why. Shepard was still spooked by the collector ship and everyone knew it, but they also knew that she was fighting the urge to break down and cry for the sake of humanity.
"What are your thoughts for when this is all over?" Kelly asked.
"Well, I think Ash and I will marry Liara, then maybe move to Thessia, buy a house with some forested land, and then live out our days in peace."
"I read up on that Andromeda initiative."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, depending on how the coming war goes they may have a second wave going within the next ten or fifteen years. Maybe once this is all done… the five of us could sign up and just slip out the galaxy's back door."
Shepard, now in her armor, turned to face her, "Maybe. I'll no doubt be given shit loads of responsibilities for saving the galaxy, so yeah… a way to have a quiet, but possibly hard, life could be nice. As long as I don't need to carry a gun anymore."
Kelly's small smile died, "Sadly Allison I don't think it'll be that simple. You're a warrior, if colonists want anything it's warriors who can keep them safe."
Allison smiled a gave Kelly a kiss on the cheek, "As long as it isn't against armies of evil aliens, I'm happy. Now," She started, getting her Kuwashii Visor and putting it on, "I'd better get going. See you later." And with that she headed to the elevator.
"This place smells wrong, like a bad wound," Runt said as they exited the airlock.
He was right. The place was deserted, and all the equipment was running like everyone just up and left.
Shepard had Runt, Miranda, and Tali with her. They explored the area set up by the research team and after watching several video logs Shepard came to a conclusion about what happened.
"They were being indoctrinated," She said after a log from team lead.
"But how? This reaper is long dead," Miranda said.
"Maybe, but if its core is still active along with some of its other components then maybe the indoctrination signal is just a natural emanation of the reaper," Tali said.
"Aint nothin about this thing that's natural," Runt said.
"Exactly, keep your ears and eyes open for hostiles. Knowing the reapers, were probably going to have to fight husks," Shepard said.
They continued on and as predicted hordes of husks started coming out of the woodworks to attack them. During one encounter however something strange happened. A Geth shot a husk that was advancing behind Shepard.
After it took the shot and when they were looking at it, it called out, "Shepard-Commander," Then walked off.
"That was odd," Shepard said.
"Especially considering that a lone Geth has the brain capacity of a verrin," Tali said.
"Proceed with caution, this just got weird," Shepard said.
They continued through the reaper, found the IFF, got trapped behind kinetic barriers, and then after finding the Geth and watching it get taken down they had a serious firefight while trying to destroy the reapers core so that they could escape with the IFF and the Geth.
Hours later, and after a long shower, Shepard entered EDI's core and looked over the Geth. It appeared to be mostly intact except for a large hole that was semi patched with an N7 chest plate. It took some fiddling, but she eventually got it back online.
After an awkward few minutes Shepard finally relaxed enough to begin talking casually to it. They spoke of what its mission was, the reason for the mission and then about how she could help with the problem of the rouge Geth sect.
After that conversation she began to ask about its name, which it didn't have, so EDI came up with Legion.
After they were done speaking Shepard headed down to engineering to look for Tali. The conversation with her was…
"You re-activated it!?" Tali shouted, "Do you have any idea how much we could learn from such an intact but inactive Geth?!"
"I understand that Tali but think of what we could learn from this Geth. I've already learned that the Geth helping Saron were a splinter group, and that they plan on reprograming all of the other Geth to help the reapers."
Tali sighed, "Does it know where they are based?"
"Yes, and I've agreed to help deal with them."
"Just as long as I get to go with you."
"I wouldn't have it any other way, and with EDI figuring out the best way to install the IFF we have some time before having to dink with that."
"Sooooooo we're going now?"
"Joker already has the coordinates."
"Let's go then."
The trip to the Geth station was uneventful, aside for Legion heading to the armory and picking up a Widow sniper rifle and modifying it with a lighter frame, enhanced scope, a penetration mod, and a high caliber barrel. When they arrived at the Station it pointed out that the lack of windows would aid in avoiding detection.
At first the lack of gravity was disorienting but Shepard quickly got over it and Tali was used to a lack of gravity sometimes. The mission went smoothly aside from having to decide what to do with all the Geth, but Shepard decided to have Legon set the station to self-destruct.
It was tight getting out before the place blew but they made it. Afterwards however…
Shepard entered the AI core to find Tali pointing a gun at Legon. Apparently, he'd tried to send her father's data on the experiments on the Geth back to his people and she was none to happy. But after a calm discussion they'd consented to allowing him to send non-classified data back.
After that Tali headed down to her and Kelly's area in the cargo hold to unwind. Kelly was there of course and after a quick discussion on how Tali felt to be working with a Geth, she was upset and worried of course, they decided to play a few hands of Rummy.
Since neither of them were experts at the game they gave up after a few hands and decided to relax until the reached the next mission location…
That was until Shepard announced that they would be responding to a distress call from a Cerberus base working on a project called Overlord.
