It was 9:45 AM, Sonic walked down the stairs to the basement beneath Tails' Lab, where he was finishing welding a part onto a large contraption.
Sonic greeted Tails, "Hey Tails, long time no see"
Tails lifted up his welding mask.
"Hey Sonic, my homeboy, you're just in time to try out my latest invention"
"Wow, what does it do?"
"Well...I don't know actually, that's why I want you to help me"
"Wait, you're gonna put me through a machine that you have no idea what it does?"
"Yes," noticing Sonic's unease, Tails added "but from my calculations, it should be 100% safe and 101% reversible, whatever it does"
"Ok, I'm sure nothing will go wrong. You have never done anything strange to me in the past, so I trust you on this one"
Tails rubbed his hands together, "Great, just step into that chamber there and let me do the rest"
Sonic hesitantly walked into the chamber and stood in the center. The door closed behind him, sealing him in the machine.
Sonic thought to himself, "I get the feeling something really bad is going to happen... nah, i'm just overthinking this." He told Tails "Ok Tails, ready!"
"Ready!"
Tails flipped a switch, and the machine started making noises reminiscent of the machine seen in the intro to Half-Life. Steam began to spurt out of the machine.
He looked over his calculations, searching for an error to explain the malfunction.
"Uh.. it's probably not a problem.. probably.. but I'm showing a small discrepancy in.. well, no, it's well within acceptable bounds again. Sustaining sequence."
Some of the rivets started shooting out and the machine began to fall apart even further.
Tails yelled to Sonic over the cacophony of sound emitted from the machine "Uh oh, Sonic, I have to get you out of there, but it's almost finished! hmm...what shall I do?"
Sonic didn't respond. Tails crouched behind his workbench and shielded his eyes.
The machine emitted an energized, explosive boom and stopped running. The door to the chamber opened up, and what appeared to be Sonic emerged through a thick cloud of steam. Tails came out from behind the workbench and looked at the silhouette in awe.
"S...S…Sonic?"
Sonic passed out and collapsed to the floor. About one hour later, Sonic briefly opened his eyes while unconscious to see Tails' face uncomfortably close to his own. Since he hadn't regained consciousness, he couldn't comprehend what he was trying to do. Sonic eventually woke up lying on the couch, he looked over to see Tails tossing something in a biohazard bin.
Sonic spoke to Tails, "T..Tails?" His voice sounded different than he remembered.
Tails jumped and looked back at Sonic.
"Oh, Sonic, you're awake"
Sonic sat up on the couch and massaged his eyes.
"What happened, why does my voice sound different?"
"Well, take a look for yourself"
Sonic got up and walked over to a large mirror. He discovered he had long eyelashes, his hair was in a bob, and he now had a well-endowed female physique. He, who is now a she, covered up her breasts and crotch with her hands.
"What! I've been turned into a chick!"
Tails exclaimed "Not just any chick, you're a total babe! isn't it great!"
"What!"
"I mean...I had no Idea this would happen, but I'm not complai...I mean, I'd like to apologize"
"I don't want you to apologize, I want you to change me back!" snapped Sonic
"Ok, but it might take me all day to fix it. we can star…"
Tails was interrupted by an answering machine with a message from Amy Rose.
"Hello Tails, I was wondering where Sonic is. We are supposed to be on a date at 12:30 PM today, please call back whenever you can. Oh, and Sonic, you won't get out of marrying me this time, I'm sure of it"
Sonic was dead silent for a few seconds, "This is going to be a huge problem"
"Actually, I think you've got two huge problems"
Sonic glared at Tails, "Were you always fantasizing about this happening or is this a recent development?"
Tails looked down at the floor and muttered "...Um, this was entirely an accident"
"Well if we're going to solve this, we're gonna need help"
Sonic picked up the phone and dialed a number. On the other end Shadow picked up the phone.
Shadow responded, "ugh...Hello"
"Hey Shadow, I need your help, come meet me at Tails' lab"
"Wait, who is this and how'd you get this number?"
Sonic Immediately hung up without telling him. A few minutes later, Shadow arrived and knocked on the door, Sonic walked out wearing a blanket to cover up her body.
"Oh, Shadow, there you are"
Shadow didn't appear to be paying attention, as he was clearly staring at Sonic's body in confusion. They then both walked inside and Tails began to talk to Shadow.
"Ah, Shadow there you are, we need…
Shadow interrupted him and asked "Um...Tails, who is this prostitute living at your house and why is she naked?"
Sonic checked to make sure she was decent and then said "let me explain when we go downstairs."
Shadow sat down on the couch and Tails started to explain what happened.
"Here's the deal, this contraption I built intentio...unintentionally transformed Sonic into a chick, and he wants to be changed back. We need you to help us find out how to fix the machine and change him back within two hours.
"Okay, do you know what part of the machine it caused this?"
"Well, I ended up installing Rouge's used toothbrush that I found in the garbage..."
"Wait, what?" interrupted Sonic
"Shhh, let me finish. Anyway, I included it as part of the machine...BY MISTAKE, I SWEAR!"
"I think I know what the problem is, you'll need to add another component containing DNA with the exact opposite of that toothbrush, which will cause it to become more balanced and vastly more stable. The closest thing I can think of is...the Doctor's mustache"
Tails sighed, "And that will take a long time to get"
"Great, there goes my date." complained Sonic. "I probably wouldn't have liked it anyway, but I have another idea."
Sonic went into the closet and came out with a can of blue paint, a brush, and a pair of green-eyed non-prescription contact lenses.
Shadow eyed the items, "Is that paint pet-safe?"
"Only one way to find out"
A few minutes of painting passed until Shadow was entirely coated in blue paint.
"Is it over yet?"
"Take a look for yourself."
Shadow looked in the mirror, unconvinced by the sight before him.
"Wow, I look like a real fake hedgehog now"
Sonic grinned, "That's the spirit, you're acting like me already! Now go out and please that crazy girl for me"
Sonic shoved Shadow out the door and closed it behind him. She immediately removed the blanket, exposing herself.
"Alright, it's time for me to get that mustache!"
As Sonic was about to leave, Tails immediately stopped her.
"Wait! You can't run around outside in the nude like that!"
"Oh yeah, almost forgot I'm not a guy anymore. Got anything I can cover up with that's better than a blanket?"
"Here, put this on"
Tails handed him a schoolgirl uniform, Sonic took it and put the uniform on.
"Tails, why exactly do you have this? More importantly, why is it my size?"
Tails shoved Sonic out the door.
"That's not important right now, what's important is that you'll be stuck like this forever until you bring that mustache back. Also, take this radio so I can talk to you while you're out and about"
Sonic took the radio then headed out the door, running away from the lab.
