Chapter 18
It was a few days later and the group was walking through the streets of Haven. The streets looked wonderful in the reds and golds of sunset. Tanea had mastered her shields a couple of days ago. Pol had informed Herald Jedin, the Kings Own of their arrival and how Lavan Firestorm was with them.
As the massive gates of the palace and collegia came into view, Pol saw a big group of Healers waiting. When the gates opened for the entourage to pass through the Healers swamped them, moving the redheaded boy onto a proper stretcher.
As they carried him off to Healers collegium, one of the healers turned back to reassure Pol, in his old leathery voice. "Have no fear sir Herald, young Lavan will be quite safe with us".
Pol nodded his thanks before turning to the group. Adressing Tanea first, Pol asked. "Well miss Tanea, seeing as the boy is safe, might I ask what your plans are now?"
Tanea took a moment to think before she said anything. "I'm goin' to stay ter see the boy wake up so I can thank im, then I'mma gonna go round the kingdom putin me talents ter good use. Which a' can now do"
"If that is the case, I'll have some guest rooms organised for you".
"Thenk ye Hearald, I'd really appreciate that".
"Oh, it's no problem, especially after you brought Lan back to us. Until your rooms have been organised, you are welcome to bunk with us".
At this Tanea nodded thanking them profusely as they made their way to Pol's room.
When they reached their destination, Elenor left the group to return to her room back at Healers.
Pol opened the door and the group went in. Tanea was dazzled, Pol wasn't surprised seeing as from what she had told them, she had been a hermit.
Pol went to their closest and withdrew some blankets and pillows for Tanea; and summoned a servant to bring them up some food from the Trainees dining hall.
Everyone was exhausted, so when the food arrived the three ate it quickly before a servant came to guide Tanea to her room, bidding her goodnight as she followed the servant. Then Pol and Ilea set about settling down for the night. Once in bed they were asleep within five minutes of their heads hitting the pillows. However just before Pol fell asleep he sent a message to Satiran. :could you please arrange for messengers to inform Lan's friends and family that he is alive:?
:First thing tomorrow chosen:.
:Thank you, and goodnight:. And that was the last thing Pol remembered before sleep claimed him.
Elenor lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. Recalling her fathers words from a year ago.
• "Any girl who pins her hopes on him as a sweetheart is going to have her heart broken. He's already lifebonded." •
Thinking back on it, she thought herself silly for assuming he had lifebonded to his sister!
•"Lavan is life bonded to Kalira. There is absolutely no doubt of it."•
But with Kalira gone now... will Lan be ok? She remembered reading that Herald Vanyel had attempted suicide after loosing
T'ylendel, his life bonded partner. Would Lan? Yes, he already had with the firestorm. She also remembered that Vanyel had required some mental healing alongside the physical.
Mentally she shook her head. Those were tomorrow's problems. Kalira was dead and Lan's lifebond had been broken! He had lost his soulmate, he had been healing, surely he would wake up tomorrow.
It was with those thought in mind that Elenor fell asleep, after clearing her mind.
It was early morning, when Elenor awoke. Getting out of bed, she got dressed and when the down to the dining hall. Once there, she sat down at a table and served herself some food. The cooks were serving fried fish today and she gladly gobbled it up.
After she had finished eating she made her way to Healers to where Lan was, hopefully he would wake up soon.
Pol sat up, feeling groggy. He had been fast asleep when Satiran had woken him up, reminding him that he needed to send a message to the Chitward's about their son being alive.
So Pol got up, dragging his feet out of bed, he noticed Ilea had already gone. Walking into the common room, he noticed a note by the sofa. Picking it up he read.
"Gone to help with Lavan, meet me at Healers, remember to send messages to his family."
Pol closed the note and went to find Macy seeing as she lived in the palace and was therefore the closest.
As he opened the door, he was quite surprised to see Macy, standing right there with her fist raised as if she had been about to knock on the door.
The mutual surprise caused a brief moment of silence before Macy spoke.
"Hi Pol, I hear you and the others came in last night, I hope the journey wasn't to difficult." Macy said to witch Pol replied.
"The journey was fine though you should come in as I was just about to come looking for you."
As Macy stepped inside he gestured to the sofa. Sitting down she looked at him curiously.
"Macy" Pol said "On the way back, we found something amazing. Lavan is alive."
At this Macy's jaw dropped. "How? Where is he? Is he-"
"Before you continue, he is at Healers right now and in a sort of coma." She started to get up, no doubt to go running off to Healers, but Pol placed a hand on her arm. So she sat down and let him continue.
"I was wondering if you could deliver the news to the rest of your family I'm not entirely sure how I would go about it. This news would be best to hear from family."
Macy nodded slowly, Pol could tell she still wanted to rush to Healers.
Instead she asked "How did he survive? And how did you manage find him?"
"Well" Pol said. "From what we can tell, his gift can't kill him, after all it emerged to protect him in the first place." Pol replied. "As to how we found him..."
Pol proceeded to explain with Macy asking the occasional question here and there. Finally she left, promising to go and tell her family the good news.
A/N: I know this chapter is awful, but it was the best I could do, sorry.
