Chapter 19

As Lavan awoke, he became aware that something had changed. It had been a few days since he found this place and as he got up he took a quick look around, drawing his sword just in case.

Noticing that nothing appeared out of the ordinary he carefully peeked outside, only to be shocked to see a few people in Healers robes in the sky! We're they working on him, trying to get him out of his coma?

He hoped that was the case, and if so, it was time to return to the place and try to get to the bridle. He had a sword now so he could open doors without being sent temporarily out of the coma only to be forced back in, leaving him vulnerable to capture like at the gate.

He had to reach the bridle to escape the coma permanently. Seeing the Healers in the sky gave him a newfound energy. He began to head towards he castle wall where he had piled up those crates and stones.

It took Lan the better part of a candelmark to reach his destination, especially with all of those Karsites patrolling the city.

At one point, Lan was convinced that he had been spotted by a patrol an was being followed, turned out to be just a hungry bird.

Arriving at his destination, Lan saw three Karsites standing there, guarding the makeshift ladder he had made. Lavan frowned.

They were expecting me. I should have known they would, otherwise it would have been too easy. Now he had to fight.

Lan calmly stepped out of his hiding place and approached the Karsites. They quickly spotted him and Lan heard one of them say in their deep sinister voice. "There he is!" Before he was immersed in the fight.

Weapons master Odo's training kicked in as he dodged and ducked his opponents strikes whilst dealing out attacks of his own.

Finding an opening, Lan smacked the pommel of his sword into one of the Karsites heads, knocking him unconscious before spinning to face the next.

After a few minutes of exchanging blows, Lavan Disarmed one of them before knocking him out too.

Turning to the last one, Lan took the offensive and, before long, the last Karsite was knocked out.

Finally, Lan had managed to subdue the Karsites. It felt like it took five minutes but he guessed that it was closer to fifteen when the fight had ended.

Panting, Lan started to drag the unconscious Karsites over to a nearby shed where he stashed them and locked the door after disarming them. Once finally finished, Lan climbed up his tower and over the wall again.

Once at the bottom of the wall, Lan carefully took a look around. There were no Karsites in sight and, seeing no threat, Lan began to head through Companions field toward the palace.

Hoping that he would finally get out.

Once Pol and Tanea had finished their breakfast, Pol sent an enquiring message to Satiran. :Do you think you could give me directions to Lavan's room please Satiran:?

:He's in the coma ward, look for room eight:.

Pol sent a grateful reply before leading Tanea through the halls of Heralds Collegium and out onto the grounds. From there they headed towards Healers Collegium.

Once they had entered the building, Pol guided them towards the nearest staircase and directed them up two flights of stairs. Once on the third floor Pol paused, trying to remember where the coma ward was.

:It's in the northwest wing chosen:.

:Thank you:.

Pol then pointed in the direction and continued to lead Tanea through the hallways, dodging around the many people in Healers greens, until finally they reached room eight. When they stepped in, they saw at least three Healers bent over Lavan, examining his condition.

A few minutes later. at the sound of the door opening, Pol turned his head and saw his daughter enter. Then, turning back to the Healers, he shook his head ruefully. Of course she had shown up, she must have been anxious to see her friend again.

As Elenor woke up late. She had slept in and it took her a second to remember where she was, and after remembering, she quickly changed before rushing off to the dining hall.

Once she had eaten, she went back to Healers, looking for the patient roster. Once she had found it, she flipped through it until she had found Lan in the coma patient section, the roster had told her that Lavan was in room eight.

Entering the room, she noticed her father and Tanea were already there. She could see that there were already three Healers there, examining the coma no doubt.

After a good ten minutes had passed, Elenor, her father sat down on some small chairs that had been placed against the far wall. They were not very comfortable, but it was better than standing around and possibly getting in the Healers way.

She turned her head when she heard the door creak and saw Macy and Tuck, along with two people whom she assumed were Lavans parents. After a while, the Chitwards decided to sit down, with there being only one spare seat, Elenor decided that it would be courteous of her to vacate her chair for them.

So, after they had taken her seat with gracious nods she went over to Tuck and Macy. Once one of the Healers obscuring their view moved, she heard their intake of breath before Macy spoke so softly, she barely heard her. "I didn't quite believe it when Herald Pol told me, but here he is"!

At that moment, she saw her mum enter carrying a vial with a medicine in it. She handed it over to the Healers before coming over to the group. "We have established that the problem is mental, and the liquid they are about to give Mr. Chitward. If it will work, should bring him out of his coma by destroying whatever is keeping him there".

"How are we going to know if it worked"? She said.

"If he wakes up around ten minutes after administration, we'll know". Said Ilea. "If not we're going to have to come up with a different soloution".

After she had said this, Elenor saw one of the Healers administer the medicine. And then they waited...

And waited...

And waited... Until finally Tuck couldn't take the silence anymore. "Has it been ten minutes yet"?

Ilea turned to check the candle, then turned back to them with a morose expression on her face. "I'm afraid so, we're going to have to start to look at other options". And with that, Ilea turned back and started chatting with the other Healers.

To say Lavan was startled when the sky turned green and the world started to shake would be an understatement. He ran back to the palace wall and sprinted up the stairs and into the nearest tower, trying to get a better view.

What he saw was terrifying. There at the horizon line, he saw a green light glowing. It was creeping forward at a steady rate, and everything it touched got destroyed, dissolving into mist.

After seeing that, he turned and began to head for the palace, doubling in his haste to get there.

As Elenor waited, she thought line and hard. If the problem was mental, and she was a mind healer, maybe...
She stood up suddenly, making everyone's gaze turn to her. She addressed the Healers "I think I have an idea". She then proceeded to outline the plan.

A/N: Fun fact, instead of these line breakes, in my writing program I have flame icons like in the book. Unfortunately doesn't allow me to add images.
