NOTE: I do not own any of Criminal Minds characters. All I own is the main character and some other random side characters lol.
"This unsub is a white male, approximately late 20s to mid 30s. He will have a military or law enforcement background, most likely dishonorably discharged. He will be athletically fit." Hotch announced. The team stood at the front of the room, facing the officers.
"He doesn't hesitate to contact law enforcement, suggesting he needs his mission or goal to be known. This may seem that he's a narcissist, but he isn't. He actually has a low self esteem, perhaps due to an abusive parent. In his first message, he says 'I need to prove myself!' We believe he has an urge to please or impress another individual. Most likely a woman." Reid said. "In his second message, he shows a small sign of remorse, apologizing for the officers he killed. He gave a name for himself, The Times Square Sniper. This suggests his confidence is growing."
"This unsub likes to work alone. He is probably a nobody in real life, just your average office worker. But he has one drive motivating him. In fact, he may have divorced someone to pursue this particular individual. This man is desperate for attention. He'll need to have another big moment." Serena concluded.
"Thank you." Hotch nodded his head, and everyone went back to work.
"I'm going to release the profile to the press." JJ said. After the approval from Hotch, she rushed to make some calls. Soon, she was having an interview outside the station.
"How does she do that?" Serena asked. She had always hated media reporters. They were nosy, arrogant, and just plain rude.
"JJ works miracles." Prentiss smiled.
"She really does." Serena replied. Suddenly, her phone rang. She excused herself from the room and looked at the caller.
Shit, shit, shit! She thought. She grimaced, holding the phone. Then she hit the red cancel button. She really didn't need to hear from them. Not now.
"Who was it?" Prentiss asked, as she stepped back in the room.
"Oh, just a friend." She replied casually.
"Hey, a woman just came in! Said she knows some creep who's been following her and he fits the profile to a T." Detective Harvey reported. The team rushed out to meet the woman.
"Hey, Danielle? My name's Serena. I'm with the FBI. Could you tell me more about this man?" Serena asked kindly. The woman was shaking.
"Uh-yeah, sure. His name's Kyle. Kyle Bromwell. He's a creep. He even orders the same things I order at restaurants. He's always bragging about his army days, saying how his ex wife was horrible. But I didn't think...Detective Harvey said it's because he's trying to impress me? God, are those people dead because of me?"
"Danielle, the only person to blame for those deaths is Kyle. Do you know where he lives?"
"Y-yes. He's told me it numerous times…14600 Gate Prancer Lane."
"Kyle Bromwell, FBI!" Morgan yelled, knocking on the door. No response. Morgan kicked down the door, and everyone filed in, guns drawn. Soon, shouts of "Clear!" filled the house.
"We found his rifle. He's totally obsessed with Danielle, he's written her thousands of love letters asking how he did for the shootings. He's definitely our guy, but he isn't here." Hotch said. A sudden movement outside caught Serena's attention.
"Yeah, he's outside." Serena replied, rolling her eyes. Kyle was trying to make a run for it. Stupid. She raced out the door and kicked down Kyle Bromwell.
"Ugh!"
"Kyle Bromwell, you're being arrested for multiple murders at Times Square, and the killings of three police officers. You have the right to remain silent. Everything you say can and will be used against you in court of law." She said, cuffing him. The team watched as Serena shoved him into a police car. For her first day, she had definitely impressed everyone.
Serena sighed as she sank into a chair on the jet.
"Hey, good job today." Hotch complimented her. She had a feeling that he didn't compliment people often.
"Thanks." She replied, smiling.
"Note to self." Morgan said from across the aisle. "Do not mess with Serena Chen. She will kick your ass." The entire team burst into laughter, even Hotch smiled a bit.
Serena's phone rang again, and she got up to go to the back of the jet. It was the same caller. Ugh. Just leave me alone, already! Then again, this bastard hasn't been very good at doing that. Serena grumbled. She knew it'd look weird for her to cancel two calls in a row, so she faked a polite conversation, then returned to her seat.
"Hey, Nala!" Serena greeted her black german shepherd excitedly. The dog wagged her tail happily. Serena put her gun away, and sat down, ready to relax, but her phone rang.
Again? Ugh.
Serena sighed, and picked up. She said in the most casual voice possible, "Hello?"
"God, I was wondering when you would pick up." The other voice said.
"You're lucky I did." She replied.
"Ouch…"
"Shut up Alastair. What do you want?"
"So...FBI huh? Don't you think that's a bit outta line? Since you're talking to me," He ignored the question.
"Alastair I swear to fucking god I will kill you."
"Oh I'm so scared."
"What. Do. You. Want."
"Well, uh. Don't shoot the messenger. Promise?"
"Ugh. Just get to the point."
There was silence on the other end. That was strange. Alastair was a talkative guy. She had known him for years, when they were both teenagers on the streets.
"Spit it out already."
"Fine. I'm just gonna say it. Merissa's after you."
Fuck. Serena dropped the phone. She could hear the small echoes of Alastair's voice, but she didn't care. She started pacing the apartment, sweeping papers off desks, and banging the wall. Nala whined and got up, trying to comfort her.
"DAMMIT!" Serena yelled, undoing her braid and ruffling her hair. Nala whimpered and backed away.
Serena stood in her living room, huffing. The place was a mess. She was surprised that her neighbors hadn't filed a complaint to security. She began to pick up the books and papers on the floor. When she was done, sighed.
No. I'm done being afraid of you. I'm not hiding anymore. She thought defiantly.
But I'm definitely not going to be able to sleep. She scoffed, poured herself some coffee, and went to apologize to Nala. But before she left to go find the dog, she took her gun out of the safe.
