Chapter 5:
This is the story of what happened to Susan Roberts that led to why she was admitted to an Nehushran Medical Hospital.
Christmas Day 1977:
Susan had been knocked on the floor by her enraged husband set off by a broken glass, drinking cup. Bobby had been thrown out of the house rejected by his own daddy. Susan's husband Richard found Bobby about two blocks from home weeping and Richard still in rage put Bobby in the car and while Bobby was weeping and pleading along the way. Robert drove him many miles from home and left him in a wooded undeveloped area where even if he screamed or cried no one would hear. At that evil moment his father actually hoped his son would die of neglect but Bobby remembered what he learned from his granddad two years earlier in 1975 when they were camping together about what's edible in the woods and what wasn't. Bobby survived but became very bitter.
Richard never came back home. After 3 days of not showing up for work an official from the Kentucky State Prison came by the Robert's home and inquired of Mrs. Roberts where her husband has been. She made the excuse that Richard left on an emergency she hasn't heard from him since. The prison kept calling the house and she kept making excuses it got so she just didn't answer the phone.
Susan dropped out of Church in 1978. One day she went grocery shopping and her Sunday school teacher, Deborah Reynolds came up to her and she started saying, "Numbers of us from the 'Ladies For Christ' class have tried to call, visit, mailed class postcards but none of us have been able to contact you. Are you and your family doing ok. We love you, we miss you."
Susan answers, "If you don't mind, I'm in a hurry. I have to get this meat home. I'm busy good day Mrs. Reynolds."
Susan had to find work to pay the bills since her husband left her. She got a job at a restaurant called ''Burger Chef."
One evening when Susan was going to her car the Pastor of the Church the Roberts used to go to and his wife we're leaving Burger Chef at the same time Susan was getting off work. Pastor Wilkerson asked Susan, "Is everything ok?"
Susan responded in a tired and aggravated voice, "Your wife's dress is ugly." Then Susan got in her car and drove off.
Mrs Wilkerinson responds to her husband whose trying not to show his anger towards Susan for assaulting his wife. Mrs Wilkerson says, "She didn't mean it honey, she's distraught, confused something is terribly wrong to make her act like that. Don't hold it against her. If she would only lower the walls and let someone in. I pity her."
Susan's condition only got worse, she told a customer off one day at work and lost her job.
Susan faked a disability and got disability insurance. She stayed at home most of the time. One day her front door was open she was still in her nightgown both weeping and laughing tossing a knife up in the air and catching it. Sitting on the end table she sees a picture of a man in in a Sears and Roebuck catalog in jeans so she stabbed the picture and moaning saying, "RICHARD, RICHARD, RICHARD!" then says, "I'm sorry, did I hurt you?" and continues stabbing at the picture. She open the Sears catalog and sees a boy advertising for a ball cap she hugged it wailing, "BOBBY, BOBBY, BOBBY!" She screamed and fell to the floor. The agony overwhelmed her making her umconscience.
The mailman passing by who also is a member of the Church that the Roberts used to go to heard the commotion and saw her on the floor with a knife in her hand and he called an ambulance. The doctors determined she was crazy and was admitted to Nehushran Mental Hospital. Susan crawls around her room alot shouting, "Where's my teddy bear?"
Is there hope from Heaven for Susan or is she too far gone?"
