A Dream Of A Journey
Rachel and Katie were snug in the blonde-haired girl's bed as Optimus was telling them a story about the Dream Femme, a femme that brought good dreams to children. "She was born from a mixture of good dreams and a starry night sky," the Autobot said as the girls listened to him, spellbound by the story.
"Has anyone ever seen her, Daddy?" Katie asked curiously.
"Not very many," he said. "They say that sparklings can see her, but only if she allows it. Mostly, only the very young ones, babies in human terms, can see her as she likes to visit homes where a newborn is and give them their first dream."
"Is she really pretty, Uncle Optimus?" Rachel asked. "Like Aunty Elita, Aunty Arcee, and Aunty Chromia?"
Optimus chuckled. "She's very beautiful," he said. "It's said that even Primus himself fell in love with her."
The girls giggled at that. "Like how you and Mommy and Chromia and Hidey are in love?" The honey-haired girl asked.
Her father chuckled again and nodded. "Yes," he said before seeing it was a little past their bedtime. "Alright, it's now time for you two little ones to go to sleep so that the Dream Femme can visit you."
"Okay," Rachel said before yawning and hugging her sister, who hugged her back. "Night, sissy. Night, Uncle Optimus."
"Goodnight, Rachel," he said, kissing her forehead in affection before picking up Katie and holding her in one arm so that he could tuck her sister in. The blonde-haired girl was sound asleep in moments and Optimus carried his little girl over to her bed, setting her down gently and tucking her in, giving her a kiss on the forehead too. "Goodnight, sweetspark."
Katie gave him a cute, daughterly kiss on the cheek. "Night, Daddy. I love you," she said sleepily.
"I love you too, sweetie."
He turned on the nightlight and left the room, leaving the two girls to sleep peacefully.
But little did anyone know that deep in space, there was a crystal egg flying through the cosmos, looking for a planet with aurora lights. The planet Earth came up on radar and the space pod flew down for Earth.
Inside the crystal egg was the Dream Femme and she was on the run from someone who wanted her power to rule the world. The Quintesson leader. He wanted the Dream Femme to be able to rule Cybertron again, but she had fled, using her powers to make herself transform into a crystal egg and Primus helped her escape from the villainous aliens.
For many years, the space pod traveled, but now began entering Earth's atmosphere, streaking down from the sky and burning brighter than a comet. The pod picked up more speed and the metal of the pod turned red from how hot it was getting.
And its point of impact was now becoming more clearer. Right beside the ARK.
All was peaceful at the base that morning when all of a sudden, a very loud whistling sound startled everyone before a very loud explosion sounded out and shook the ARK with the force of a minor earthquake.
Having been woken up by the sounds, Katie quickly ran over to Rachel's bed and the girls hugged each other, huddling close together as Katie clutched Blizzard and Rachel clutched her white leopard plush. Skids came rushing in right then and saw the frightened girls reaching for him. "Hold on, lasses. I'm here," he said, scooping them up into his arms and getting them out of their room and to the rec room. Both clung to him in fright and he gently shushed them. "Shh, it's alright. It's nothing to be afraid of."
"What happened, Skids?" Katie asked him.
"Something landed nearby," he said.
"A bomb?" Rachel asked.
"I don't think so, but it certainly created a lot of noise like one, huh?"
She nodded and he hugged them comfortingly. "Don't worry, lasses. We won't let anything hurt you."
They began to relax a bit, trusting him as they knew he wouldn't break a promise.
After a few more moments, all was quiet. "Well, whatever it was, it landed right beside us," said Trailbreaker.
"A Bot or 'Con?" Jazz asked.
"Too small," Springer said.
"Look," said Twin Twist. "That looks like an escape pod."
Roadbuster took a closer look at the picture. "He's right," he said. "That's an escape pod."
"It looks really small though," Ultra Magnus said in worry, to which the other Wreckers agreed.
Moonracer gasped. "A sparkling?" She asked, hoping it wasn't.
Red Alert's horns suddenly began sparking and he looked up and let out a shout. "Decepticons!" He cried out.
Optimus, remembering the day, stepped forward, especially when he saw Megatron holding a white flag. "Hold your fire," he said. "Remember, the Autobots and Decepticons have a truce starting December first and going to the end of the month."
The Autobots nodded, remembering as the 'Cons touched down and transformed. Megatron looked around curiously and then looked at Optimus. "Prime, we detected something crashed nearby," he said. "It looked like an escape pod."
"Yes," said the leader of the Autobots. "But, it's a very small one."
Thundercracker looked worried. "A sparkling?" He asked, feeling horror fill him that if it was a sparkling, it might be injured.
"Let's hope not," Astrotrain said.
Skywarp had seen the Aerialbots trying to carefully clear the dirt from around the pod. "Maybe we'll have better luck combining into Superion to get it out," said Silverbolt.
"But what if we damage the pod further?" Air Raid asked.
Skydive have an idea. "What if we can just scoop out the dirt around it so that it's like in a cocoon and then we set it down and work on getting the dirt off of it."
"That could work," Fireflight said with a nod.
"Let's give it a try," said Slingshot.
"I can give you a visual from the air," said Skywarp, to which the five nodded.
It wasn't long before their idea had worked and Ratchet placed a sheet over it and just in time as the space pod began to shake. "Um, is that supposed to happen?" Inferno asked.
"Take cover!" Drift cried out, recognizing what was going on. "It's a fail-safe!"
Katie looked up at Skids. "What's a fail-safe?" She asked as he turned and ran to find cover.
"It means that it's possible that escape pod is going to blow!" He said worriedly.
"But what if someone's inside?" Rachel asked.
"Don't know, lass," he said as he ducked behind a rock, holding them close.
A small explosion sounded out and it was quiet for a bit until they all began coming out, curious to see what happened. Katie, feeling she had to know if whoever was inside was hurt, ran to the sheet, determined to help out.
"Katie, don't go near that!" Sideswipe warned, but she ignored him and slowly approached the sheet, grabbing it and yanking it upwards, quickly standing back in surprise at what she found.
On the ground, among the remains of the shattered escape pod, was a crystal like egg. "What is it?" Prowl asked.
"It looks an egg," Skyfire said.
"I've never seen one like that before," Blaster admitted. "How about you guys?"
The four cassettes he guarded over came out, but shook their heads, having not seen anything like it either. Megatron looked at Soundwave. "Soundwave?" He asked. "Have you seen anything like it before."
"Answer: negative," Soundwave said in his monotone voice. "Conclusion: must be important."
Lazerbeak chirped in agreement with his master and Starscream noticed something. "Look," he said. "It seems to have a purple hue."
"He's right," Hound said, having noticed that too.
Katie once again approached it and picked it up. "Wow! It's so pretty!" She said, holding it up. The sunlight caught on the reflection and made it sparkle more.
"Be careful, Katie," Elita said gently.
"Yes, Mommy," the little girl said as she held the egg with care.
"What should we do?" Jazz asked.
Rachel, who was watching curiously, perked up. "Maybe Santa will know a good place for it," she said.
Megatron suddenly got a ping on his comm and lifted a hand up to his head, listening for a moment before his eyes widened. "Soundwave, we are needed," he said urgently to him.
"Megatron?" Optimus asked.
The warlord looked a bit nervous. "Something that requires mine and Soundwave's attention has come up," he said. "It seems something was picked up on our radar and it's a signal that...seems familiar, but I'm hoping it's merely something else."
With that, he and Soundwave left and the others looked surprised. Wheeljack turned to the Seekers, but they looked equally surprised. "Hmm, Lord Megatron is asking that we stay here," said Starscream, but his voice lacked its usually contempt.
"Something must be up," said Thundercracker.
"Well, since that is that, why don't we all go to the North Pole?" Skywarp said. "Because I think Rachel's got the right idea about Santa knowing what to do with that egg."
"I agree," said Astrotrain. "Or at least he'll know where it came from."
"Let's shove off then!" Sky Lynx said with a nod.
It didn't take long for them to be on their way and they were soon flying, but Skyfire picked up something on his radar. "Optimus, there's a large storm ahead of us," he said.
"Be careful," he said, knowing how bad the winter storms could be.
Skywarp suddenly let out a sharp cry as a huge gust of wind knocked him off course and he slammed into a tree. "Warp!" Thundercracker cried out in alarm as he dove down, but ended up crashing too because of the weather.
"T.C.!" Starscream cried out in alarm, sending worry through the Trine bond and hoping his brothers were okay.
Sky Lynx suddenly grunted. "This wind is pushing against us!" He cried out before a huge gust made him turn end over end. "Hold on tight!"
"Don't have to tell us twice!" Sideswipe said.
Katie gripped the egg closer to her, clinging tightly to Hot Spot, who held her protectively as the others gathered around. Skyfire was also struggling to fly, as was Astrotrain before the three ending up crash landing too. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the seekers had ice on their wings, which would hinder them in their flight.
"What are we going to do?" Rachel asked as Perceptor held her, the snow swirling around them. "We're still far from the North Pole."
"I'm afraid she's right," said the scientist. "We need another way of travel."
Blades spotted some train tracks and he had an idea. "Astrotrain! Can you still transform to your train mode?" He asked.
"Yes," the triple changer said before looking over and he grinned. "Train tracks!"
The others looked and Katie cheered happily before suddenly realizing something and looked at her friend. "But Astro...how can you carry all of us?" She asked.
"If we can find some train cars to hook together and then attach them to me, I should be able to carry you all with no trouble," he said.
Quickly setting to work, they found some abandoned rail cars nearby and it wasn't long before Astrotrain was ready to go. Everyone climbed aboard and it was surprisingly roomy for everyone. Once all were aboard, the triple changer began moving, picking up a good speed and the journey continued.
Katie leaned against Hot Spot's chest, feeling a bit sleepy as she held the egg close to her. Moments later, she woke up and found herself in space, still holding onto the egg. Suddenly, a starry sky surrounded her and she saw Cybertron down below and it transformed into Primus, who smiled at her. "Hello, Princess," he said.
"Primus," she said with a smile before seeing another familiar figure beside him. "Grandpa?"
"Hello, little one," he said before looking a bit worried. "I wish this meeting was under more pleasant circumstances, but there is danger approaching."
Katie cocked her head to the side and Primus looked at her. "Someone very evil is after the Dream Femme, Katie," he said. "She's in the very egg which you now hold."
The honey-haired girl gasped as she held up the egg. "This is the Dream Femme?" She asked.
"Yes," said Alpha Trion. "She was nearly captured by our enemies, but Primus helped her escape and she took this form to protect herself. Once the egg hatches, she'll be a sparkling again, but will soon return to her adult self."
Katie looked at them. "Who is after her?" She asked, holding the egg tightly.
Primus looked at her before sighing. "A very dangerous alien with five faces," he said. "If you see them, beware. They are cunning and will do anything to get what they want."
"Especially when what they are after is very valuable," the little girl's grandpa said. "The Dream Femme is very powerful and if those monsters get their hands on her...they'll destroy everything."
The little girl clutched the egg close to her. "I won't let them," she said fiercely.
"Atta girl," Primus said, pleased with her reaction and words. "Guard her well, Katie."
"The Dream Femme must be kept safe, or it will mean doom for everyone," Alpha Trion said.
The little girl nodded and then felt herself wake up. Seeing the egg was still in her lap, she hugged it tighter. "I won't let that monster get you," she promised in a whisper.
"Won't let who get what, Katie?" Ironhide asked, having heard her.
She looked at him. "An alien with five faces is after this egg, which is actually the Dream Femme."
The reactions were instant. Optimus, Elita, the Protectobots, Ultra Magnus, Ironhide, Jazz, Ratchet, Moonracer, Bluestreak, Hound, and Mirage let out gasps while Firestar, Chromia, Arcee, Sunstreaker, Perceptor, Sky Lynx, Wheeljack, Kreemzeek, Thundercracker, Astrotrain, and Skywarp looked around rapidly, pulling out their weapons and seeming to look around. After a bit, the triple changer sighed in relief.
"They're not here," he said.
Everyone looked relieved and Jazz looked at Katie. "Katie, where did you hear about that?" He asked.
"How do you know about the Quintessons?" Firestar asked.
Rachel gasped and clung to Perceptor, who rubbed her back. "I...I thought they didn't exist anymore," the young girl said.
"Oh, no," said the scientist, gently shaking his head. "Just as there are numerous Autobots and Decepticons, the same can be said for those deceptive, five-faced aliens."
"Everyone, keep your sensors alert," Optimus said. "Though...Katie, who told you about the Quintessons?"
She clutched the egg tighter. "Grandpa and Primus appeared in my dream and told me," she said. "Grandpa said that Primus helped the Dream Femme escape those mean aliens."
"They must know she's here on Earth," said Hot Spot.
"Perhaps that's what Megatron was so worried about earlier," said Arcee.
"You might be right," said Thundercracker.
Katie looked at them. "Even Megatron is afraid of the Quintessons?" She asked.
"Yes," said Skywarp.
"They are not to be taken lightly," said Starscream, shuddering in fear.
Astrotrain came to a stop. "Guys, we've got a problem," he said.
Arcee, Elita, Optimus, Sideswipe, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Starscream, Mirage, Hound, Rachel, and Katie came out and were surprised to see that there was a huge lake that was iced over and it apparently was covering the train tracks. Sideswipe looked up ahead and pointed across the way. "Looks like the train tracks go either under the ice or someone decided to be funny and try to run the train tracks through the lake," he said.
"Astro, do you think you can make it across?" Katie asked worriedly.
Rachel moved closer to the ice and placed a hand on it, peering down at it, but she couldn't see any water. "I think it's froze solid," she said.
"I don't think that's quite possible," Mirage said gently as he took a closer look. "The water is flowing underneath, but the ice is fairly thick too. It should be able to hold all of us and Astrotrain."
The triple changer took a look and nodded. "Alright, but we'll have to be careful," he said. "Everyone climb aboard."
The ride started smoothly, but as soon as the last train car came onto the ice, things began to go south. "Hold on!" Astrotrain cried out.
"Astro! What's going on?!" Rachel cried out in worry.
Mirage held her with one arm and held onto Astrotrain with the other. "We're fishtailing!" He said. "It happens when the wheels of a vehicle can't get any traction or grip on a surface!"
"In other words, one wrong slip and we'll go through the ice!" Thundercracker said.
A sharp bump jarred them and Arcee screamed as she nearly fell off, reaching out and just missing the railing. "Arcee!" Astrotrain cried out in worry.
Skywarp reached out and grabbed Arcee's arm, to which she grabbed his arm with her hands. Thundercracker grabbed his brother and the others quickly formed a chain to try and pull Arcee back up but also to keep each other from falling. Sideswipe was near Katie and wanted to help, so she grabbed onto him, not sure what help she could be, but she was going to try.
She suddenly felt strong hands gently wrap around her waist and she turned to see her grandfather behind her and he was holding onto her and Primus was there too, placing his hands over Alpha Trion's as both helped Katie pull Sideswipe back, but they vanished moments later as that one pull was enough to get everyone, including Arcee, back on board. Springer ran forward and hugged the pink femme close and she held onto him, shivering a little at her close call.
Sideswipe looked at Katie in shock. "Katie, where did you get the strength to pull us back like that?" He asked.
She just lightly shrugged, deciding not to say. Just then, Astrotrain heard something that filled him with dread and he began moving as quickly as he could towards the tracks just on the other side of the lake. As he did so, the sound became louder and they all looked and to their horror, the thick ice was cracking and breaking.
"Brace yourselves!" Optimus said as they did so.
"Astrotrain!" Rachel cried out in fear.
"Hold on!" He cried out as he calculated the distance and their speed. "It's going to be close!"
Another sharp bump jarred them and Katie screamed as she fell away from Mirage and began to stumble to the side, holding onto the egg with all her might. "Katie!" Elita cried out, leaping into action.
"Mommy!" The little girl cried out as she nearly fell off but the femme grabbed her, but felt her feet start to slip, nearly taking them both over the side, but Elita felt someone grab her and reach around and grab the little girl, pulling her in so that the child was being held tight against her mother as both were pulled to safety and into two strong arms. Elita looked up and saw Starscream looking at them in concern, holding them both.
"Are you alright?" He asked, his face a look of worry as he gently stroked Katie's head.
"Yes," the pink femme said, giving him a grateful look. "Thank you, Starscream."
Optimus came up to them and he nodded. "Thank you for saving my mate and my daughter," he said.
The seeker nodded before Katie perked up. "He saved the egg too!" She said, holding it up carefully.
The ice cracking reached them again, but just as it reached them, Astrotrain made it onto the tracks and the ride evened out. "We made it!" Sideswipe cheered.
The others cheered along with sighing in relief that the worst was behind them. "As exciting as that was, I think once around that was enough," said Thundercracker.
Rachel came up to him and lifted her arms up, to which he picked her up and she hugged him. "But we made it together," she pointed out.
He smiled. "That's right," he said.
Astrotrain gave a few toots of his whistle. "We'll be reaching the North Pole soon and it looks like an old friend of Katie's is here to join us," he said. "Look to the right."
They did and smiled at seeing a familiar polar bear cub. Katie gasped. "Frostine!" She said happily.
The triple-changer slowed down and Roadbuster leaned down from the side like an acrobat, reaching out to the cub, who reached him and jumped into his outstretched arm. He pulled her closer and swung back up onto the platform before setting the cub down, watching as she ran to the little girl, who laughed and hugged her while still clutching the precious egg to her.
But just as they arrived, they found everything to be in chaos.
Santa and Mrs. Clause were getting the elves to safety as the Quintessons were attacking. The big man looked up and felt relief at seeing the Autobots and friendly 'Cons. "Just in time!" He said. "We need some serious help!"
"That's why we're here!" Blaster said as the cassettes came out.
Thundercracker turned to Optimus. "Optimus, allow me and my brothers to join you in helping Katie get the Dream Femme to safety," he said.
"I'll come too," said Astrotrain.
The leader of the Autobots nodded. "Thank you," he said.
Santa saw them and he gasped as he saw the egg. "Katie, you need to get that egg to where the Northern Lights are," he said, pointing to behind the large workshop. "There's a small hill where the lights touch down briefly and they're going to do so soon. Hurry and make sure the lights touch that egg."
She nodded. "We will, Santa," she said.
Rachel looked around before getting an idea and looking at how many elves there were. She ran up to Mrs. Clause and lightly tugged on the lady's apron, making her look at her. "Mrs. Clause, how many of the elves are good at snowball fights?" She asked.
The lady smiled. "Every one of them, dear," she said before chuckling. "I see what you're thinking."
She stood up and whistled loudly, getting the elves' attentions. "Alright, everyone! Make the snow fly!" She said, scooping up some snow into her hands.
The elves cheered and began pelting the Quintessons with snowballs while the Autobots battled the villains back.
One Quintesson saw Katie with the crystal egg and growled. "The egg!" He said, shooting at the 'Cons. Skywarp quickly tossed a rock that shattered upon impact with the shot and they kept running to get to the hill behind the workshop.
Suddenly, Katie screamed as a shot landed at her feet and knocked her off her feet and into the sea that was nearby. "KATIE!" Optimus shouted as he dove in the water after her.
Kreemzeek gasped. "Katie!" He cried out as he could only watch in horror.
Thundercracker looked worried. "Come on, Optimus," he said anxiously. "Come on, Katie."
The leader of the Autobots kept swimming and finally saw his daughter and quickly swam down, wrapping his arms around her and swimming back up to the surface. As he set her down, it became clear that the little girl wasn't breathing and she looked lifeless.
"N-No...Katie...please...come back to me...please!" Optimus cried as he hugged her tightly.
The other Autobots looked in horror. "NO!" Rachel screamed as she tried to run to her sister, but Skyfire held her back. The little girl felt tears run down her face as she cried. "KATIE!"
The red-and-blue Autobot held his daughter close to him. "I...I wish I could save you...," he whispered.
Just then the crystal egg started glowing and then suddenly the Matrix of Leadership started glowing very brightly. Realizing what it was doing, he opened his chest plate and hugged his daughter tightly.
Starscream gasped. "Look," he said just as Frostine came over.
Katie's Matrix crystal began glowing too and the little girl took a deep breath before opening her eyes and smiling. "Daddy," she said.
"Oh, my baby girl," he said, hugging her closer to him.
She hugged him back before looking at the egg and getting an idea. "Daddy, the Dream Femme heard you," she said. "She granted your wish."
He nodded before seeing what she was driving at and he smiled. "Come on," he said. "Let's show the Quintessons that they are not going to ruin Christmas and that they can't destroy our family."
She nodded and Rachel cheered at seeing her sister was alive. Optimus transformed into his trailer and broke apart. Roller came out and Optimus transformed again with Katie in his arms. He placed her on Roller, who beeped happily. "Roller, follow my lead," he said.
He began running towards the Quintessons and Roller was right behind him with Katie, the little girl hugging the egg and closing her eyes. "I wish...for the Quintessons to go away and that Christmas be wonderful for everyone," she said.
The egg glowed and just as Optimus returned a few shots that the enemies had blasted towards them, a mighty sound filled the air and before everyone's eyes, the Quintessons vanished into midair. As quiet settled over the North Pole, everyone began cheering and Katie began running to get to the small hill she could now see, seeing the lights were about to start.
She set the egg down gently and saw the lights were almost reaching it. She then got an idea and began vocalizing. Rachel perked up as she recognized the song her sister was vocalizing. "My Heart Will Go On," she said. "It's the theme from the movie Titanic."
The Northern Lights reached the egg and it began to hatch, moved by the beautiful lights and the song that was being sung in a pure voice by the honey-haired girl. Before everyone's eyes, the egg fully hatched and a sparkling that was colored purple and had silver wings on her back while her armor looked glittery like stars came out of the egg, opening her beautiful blue eyes.
Katie got down on her knees and crawled towards the baby Dream Femme and sat in front of her. The sparkling cooed curiously as she watched the young girl, who began gently rubbing her wings, making her purr and giggle.
The young girl giggled too. "Hi, I'm Katie!" She said cutely.
The sparkling cooed as she looked at Katie and then started waving her arms up in the air. "Hey, what are you doing?" The honey-haired girl asked curiously.
The sparkling began to glow and magic filled the air. Santa smiled. "The Dream Femme is using her magic," he said. "This is quite an occasion. She doesn't do this for just anyone."
The sparkling looked at Katie and then looked up towards the Northern Lights, pointing up. The young girl looked up to see herself at Cybertron with Optimus, Elita, the Autobots, and her 'Con friends by her side.
Ultra Magnus smiled. "It's said that if the Dream Femme lets you see your dream clearly, it's most likely to come true," he said.
The sparkling suddenly began floating and transformed into her full adult form, smiling as she picked Katie up and hugged her. "Thank you, Katie," she said, her voice sounding like an angel and small happy bells ringing all at once. "You and your family not only saved me, but restored me too."
The little girl hugged her. "We weren't going to let those mean aliens hurt you," she said.
The Dream Femme nodded. "I will always be with you and your sister," she said, seeing Rachel coming up to them and she picked up the blonde-haired girl too. "And...I will trust you two with my name."
The girls blinked before Rachel smiled. "I bet you have a very pretty name," she said.
The femme chuckled. "My name is Skydream," she said. "Whenever you girls need me, I'll be there."
"Skydream?" Katie asked, amazed because it was a beautiful name.
Skydream nodded and kissed both girls on their foreheads. "Merry Christmas, girls," she said, setting them down gently as her body began to glow brightly and she started levitating before she began flying away into the galaxy. "And thank you, Katie!" They heard her call out before she vanished.
Katie looked down, a bit upset that the femme couldn't stay a bit longer. Optimus, seeing this, went up to his daughter and picked her up, hugging her comfortingly. "Don't worry, sweetspark," he said. "We'll see the Dream Femme again one day."
Rachel nodded. "She's our friend," she said.
Everyone nodded. "Well, we better head for home," said Elita.
"I can use my magic to send you home," said Santa.
The Aerialbots combined to form Superion and the Protectobots merged to form Defensor. "And we'll be alert so that our enemies won't surprise us," said Superion.
"We'll keep everyone safe," said Defensor.
Nodding, Santa used his magic and it wasn't long before they were all back home. Blaster smiled. "Well, looks like we're just in time for the party," he said.
"What party?" Katie asked.
He smiled. "This one," he said as the lights came on and streamers filled the air along with confetti and balloons.
The Christmas spirit filling them all, they all began enjoying the party, having fun as Skydream looked down at them with a smile, using her magic to make the air feel even more magical before she flew away, able to spread more good dreams to the children of the world.
