I do NOT own Fairy Tail and Shelter, sadly.
Chapter 1: A New Day
There was just so little time left after you were born.
I don't know how much love I managed to pour into raising you after your mother died...
But your smile kept me going. (^_^)
I would like to have come with you, but I couldn't.
I wanted you to forget everything and move on... I knew you'd be alright.
But you'll get lonely, and remember.
I know you'll grow strong, and read this letter someday.
I really wish we could have spent more time together. I'm sorry.
You were so young back then, too young to understand what they meant. So let me repeat...
My final words to you.
-Dad
In the depths of space, a seemingly endless void of dust and particles, a low whirring sound can be heard. A marvelous sleek black spacecraft meandered aimlessly, its engine whirring and leasing a couple of hisses before quieting once more.
It's passenger, a pale skinned 17-year-old girl with long brown hair that supposedly ends past her rear, can be seen slumbering peacefully in the spacecraft, with wires embedded deep in her skin, keeping her alive.
What would have otherwise been a fantastic and thrilling experience of traveling through space was marred by the very idea that its passenger is the very last of humanity.
Who knows how long will she stay there?
Oh.
There was no one left but her and her alone.

The beaming lights overhead made Rin's eyes hurt as she fluttered them open, squinting. She winced briefly, shielding her eyes with the back of her palm as her eyes slowly adjusted to the brightness. And there she lay, staring at the ceiling, not the lights, mind you.
After a while, Rin sat up, grabbing the tablet that lay next to her. Scrolling through its contents. She checked if there were any messages, none. She sighed, but not in disappointment. It didn't bother her the slightest, it had hardly ever mattered anyway.
"What day is it…" Rin asked herself, reading the numbers floating in the center of the screen. 'No messages in 59 days.' It read.
"Oh yeah, the letter..." she mumbled, still half asleep. She yawned loudly, stretching her limbs. "Not now." She told herself, clambering out of her bed and setting the tablet aside. She smoothed out the sheets and fixed her array of pillows, not paying any attention as the walls and ceiling around her seemingly dissolved, leaving her and a few other belongings in a transparent cube. She stared outside. A blanket of white covered the outsides of the cube's confines. A never-ending white.

"And done!" Rin cheerfully declared as she looked up from her tablet. A tremendous crumbling stone arc supported by massive stone columns. They stood ostentatiously over a lush grassy hill, littered with buttercups. She smiled proudly and tried giving herself a pat on the back, the action proving itself to be quite taxing.
Giving up, she decided to inspect the stone structure up close. The pillars stood mighty and straight; intricate designs etched deep in its stony body. The columns were near twice her height. She was pretty sure she was around 5 feet tall.
Rin scaled the stone structure and had nearly fallen off. "Note to self, do not climb crumbling structures." She sternly told herself, wiping the dust off her cardigan, and had decided to just stand by and admire it.
Satisfied with her creation, she saved it in a file to return to and started scribbling away furiously on her tablet.

Later that night, before going to bed, Rin decided to draw one last time.
An endless field of grass, a bit of shrubbery and foliage here and there, its horizon dotted with towering mountains with wafts of clouds enveloping their snow-covered peaks, but the sky is the most detailed and most spectacular of them all. A magnificent shade of purplish-blue, with a hint of red and green if you looked well enough. Specked with thousands - no billions of stars that seem twinkle and shine erratically.
Rin laid down in the open field, slightly giggling as the grass blades tickled her nose. Smiling as she closed her eyes, feeling the dampness of the ground beneath her and the slight breeze caressing her cheek.
"I might want to take another bath before I go to sleep tonight." She said to her herself, sprawling her limbs in a carefree manner.
She opened her eyes to look up at the stars only to marvel and awe at the sight she has created.
"Wonderful… I think this is the first time I've ever made this. It's beautiful." She mumbled before reaching out her hand towards the sky.
"It really is pretty; I wonder if this is how space looks like… Besides from those stars, are there any more stuff out there?" She pondered, eyes twinkling.
As if on cue, a meteor sailed silently through the night sky, its bright trail illuminating the dark sky.
"Woah, so cool! I wonder if I'll ever see one of those… things again." Rin chirped as she sat down with her palms touching the ground, her neck bent backward as she observed the sky.
"I wonder if I would ever get to see another human again, I kind of wish I will…" she trailed off.
If only she knew.

The following day, everything seemed the same as usual. But Rin can't shake off this feeling of uneasiness. She decided to look around her. The paranoia was gnawing away at her.
She sighed and grabbed her tablet. "Nothing was displaced, and everything seems to be working." Rin reassured herself. She switched on her tablet. Nothing. She paused for a while, then switched on her tablet. Still, nothing.
"Huh?" A bead of sweat ran down from her scrunched brow. "The tablet…" She switched it on again. It still wasn't working. Rin stared at her reflection on the black screen. She's starting to panic. "Wh-what the?"
Her surroundings seemed to bend as blank patches started forming in her peripheral view. She tried to move, only to figure out she could not move, as if she was immobilized, paralyzed. Her head started to spin. Everything seemed to melt into a haze, and she's getting nauseous. She couldn't help but think that perhaps, her spacecraft was severely damaged and that she was about to die. Then, she blacked out.
There was a sudden flash of light, enveloping the hazy environment and Rin with its brightness.
;-;
In the real world, an enormous gateway had suddenly appeared out of nowhere, right in front of the spacecraft's trajectory. Unable to devise an alternate route quickly enough to avoid it, it was engulfed by the gateway instead. As soon as the spacecraft had safely passed through it, the gateway closed by itself, leaving no sign of it and its only passenger…
A/N: Clover here!
This is my first ever fanfic and crossover. Honestly, I'm quite excited at how this turns out.
I'm planning it to be a story of epic length, considering it's a fairy tail crossover.
By the way, the message at the start of the story is a rough translation of the text message Rin's dad sent.
So, here's a quick rundown:
Story takes place a few months after the Shelter animation.
And Bam! Rin is engulfed with bright light.
PS: This is a revamped edition. I'm planning on revamping the other chapters. Sorry if I've not been uploading for a while, cause you know, real-life responsibilities.
