I am sorry this was up later than expected, I know you guys appreciate the frequent updates. But last night was very tiring for me. I hope you can understand :)
There is a MAJOR plot twist in here ladies and gentlemen...
Chapter 20…
{Clary's POV}
"Dear mother, it's been a while"
I snarled at Jocelyn.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see Robert Lightwood edging closer to me.
I did not look at him, but simply pressed the seraph blade closer to the little boy's throat.
Enough to cause a small bit of blood to stream down Max's neck.
"I wouldn't come much closer if I were you "
He stopped instantly in his tracks.
"You BITCH. Hurt my brother and I will kill you, I don't care what special blood you have."
Izzy spat at me.
"Temper, temper. I think you should be more careful with your words Isabelle. Little Max here is currently breathing"
I put emphasis on the 'currently' , to remind everyone in the room who was holding the cards.
"Oh and don't think about reaching for that whip"
I cautioned Izzy - as she held the only weapon in the room that could cause me actual pain.
"Name you terms Clarissa"
The voice belonged to the Inquisitor,
"Ah finally, the business end of the deal."
"I need to return to my father now. So I wish to have my sword returned firstly."
I demanded, Imogen nodded at a shadowhunter to her left.
Who left the room and returned with Heosphorus.
"Toss it"
They threw the sword across the room.
Whilst still keeping a strong grip on the seraph blade I caught it in my left hand and in one swift motion slipped it back into it's sheath.
I felt more at ease now, as if Heosphorus gave me more power.
"You have your sword, let go of my son!"
Maryse Lightwood shouted across from me.
As I was about to respond I saw Jace come running into the room.
I had been wondering what had taken him so long to arrive.
But why were you thinking about him?
Said a small voice in the back of my head, I pushed it back quickly.
He had arrived with another boy a bit older than myself and Jace, this boy looked startling like me. His red hair was a bit lighter than mine, but he looked familiar.
Then I remembered who this was - this was the boy by the lake, the one I had taken a smooth swipe at.
"And who might this be Blondie?"
"Clarissa, I am your brother"
The other boy said plainly.
"Ah, father told me of you. I was wondering when we were going to cross paths"
"Clary you don't have to do thi-"
"Thanks, but I'm not looking for a family reunion here bro"
{Jocelyn's POV}
I didn't want to believe it, that Valentine had taken my innocent child and turned her into this monster.
Who was threatening the life of a young boy, and innocent child.
Not even Valentine would have been this evil.
And for the first time since I had realised who my daughter was I thought,
There is no saving her now.
She will only cause death and destruction in her wake.
And Clary was still not at her peak, when she turned 18 she would become even stronger.
Ignoring her brother and Jace, Clary shifted to the side and began drawing with a stele.
It was beautiful, her soft strokes with the stele.
That's possibly the only thing she got from me.
I thought sadly.
The rune she drew began fizzing and spiraled into a portal.
Gasps echoed around the room.
No shadowhunter had ever been able to create runes outside of the Gray Book before.
But I had gotten used to expecting the unexpected from my daughter.
"Clary, let the boy go now. He is innocent"
I pleaded.
A look of resentment and hurt washed over Clary, however briefly.
"Coming from the woman who tried to murder a baby!"
Clary replied fiercely.
I was taken aback, murder a baby?
At that, Clary shoved Max forwards and leaped through her portal.
{Jace's POV}
I ran at the portal the second Clary stepped through - but it had closed seconds after she had disappeared through it.
Little Max had sprang into the arms of his family almost immediately.
I couldn't blame him, it wasn't often that a demonic and angelic creature held a blade to your throat.
But I was starting to think it might become a more common feature in my life.
Because I knew something was just beginning, I was going to see Clary again.
I still felt pulled towards her.
I was appalled at myself, this girl had just threatened to kill my little brother. But I felt no resentment towards her.
Jocelyn's face was paled, not helped by Jonathan's next question.
"Mom, what did Clary mean?"
We all knew what he was referring to, 'Coming from the woman who tried to murder a baby'
I saw Jocelyn swallow,
"He, he told her.. I, I did it…" she was breathless between her words.
Luke held her hand and gently asked her,
"Did what Jocelyn?"
"The poison, she.. She knows."
"When I discovered what, what she was."
Jocelyn had to pause before she continued.
"I didn't know what to do. The first time I held Clary I was repelled, I thought I was a terrible mother, who could hate their newborn child. But when I found out what Valentine had done to her. It all made sense, so I…"
She was clearly struggling to speak, but what she said next sent a wave of nausea to my stomach.
"I knew what he would make of my daughter. He would make her his weapon, the ultimate shadowhunter. I knew she would grow up to believe in his ideals, she would be the end of us all"
"I knew I had to do everything I could to stop it."
"So I… I gave her poisons in her food."
Everyone's facial expressions tightened.
Jocelyn had tried to murder her child.
I only knew Jocelyn as the caring mother she was to Jon. I found it impossible to imagine the same woman attempting to kill her own flesh and blood.
"Why didn't the poisons work?"
My father asked,
"Clarissa, her… her demon blood was more powerful than could have ever imagined. The poison made her stronger"
Nobody knew what to say, but after a while Celine spoke up.
"Jocelyn, I understand"
And she went over to hug Jocelyn, who now looked destroyed.
I am sure living with the memories was pain enough, let alone admitting to others.
Celine, Maryse guided Jocelyn out of the room - she was in no fit state to talk strategy now.
Taking Max with them,
"We need to find her, before it's too late."
Alec stated.
"No shit Sherlock."
I earned myself an unpleasant scowl from Alec.
"Well being the amazing shadowhunter I am. Have a plan."
I could almost burst with pride as I explained my plan to the others,
"Clary took my stele. But as most of you know I lose it from time to time-"
"-more like every other day"
Alec mumbled.
Ignoring his comment I continued.
"I implanted a tracking device into it"
"But won't the wards of wherever Clary is repel the tracking?"
My father queried.
"It is a mundane tracking system, I am assuming Valentine won't have planned for that"
I saw everyone's saddened faces light up just a little.
I grinned - that's all I had needed them to have.
Hope.
{Clary's POV}
My portal had landed me just on the outskirts of the manor, I smiled.
Feeling the grip of Heosphorus in my hand.
I needed to add 'Single-handedly escapes an Institute on full alert' to my résumé.
I stalked up to the house, and was caught off guard as a hand grasped my arm and yanked me behind a tree.
I would have started throwing punches, but that hand felt familiar.
Amatis.
So Jocelyn tried to kill Clary as a baby !
Tell me what you think of that in the reviews.
Also, I don't think I will be killing off Max - for those of you who are worried ;)
