Thank you for the reviews.
Now this one is the shortest one of them all. Just because it was all I could write to fit the idea. And, obviously, we have skipped ahead a bit. Because I had to because of the song...
Set during 2014.
Day Two
Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?
Maybe, just maybe, Rachel is a little sick of a very popular Disney song and Eddie knows it.
Word count: 977
Eddie knew that Rachel hated the song. Actually, he knew that she hated all the songs from a film that they aren't allowed to speak about around Isobel otherwise she would ask where it is and Rachel would eventually give in and remove it from her hiding place, just to hide the DVD again once Isobel had (thankfully) lost interest again.
The Christmas period of 2013 was full of the songs and the hype around the film hadn't died down over the last year. Even more so when the sing-along version of the film was released (something that Isobel had to have and Eddie gave into her in the end to the annoyance of Rachel).
"I'm just going to have to ban it." Rachel huffed.
"Rachel, the film was only re-released two weeks ago."
"And we have two weeks left until the end of term. Eddie, I am sick of it. I have had a year of students tell me to just 'Let it go'. And god forbid if it does decide to snow. I come to work and there is Frozen. I come home and Isobel is talking about Frozen. It is a good film but not that good. And you should have never bought her the other version on DVD."
"She did have me."
"Eddie, she is four."
"And I told her that I would think about it if she was good when we were out shopping. She was good."
"She has you wrapped around her little finger."
"Okay, guilty of that." Eddie paused for a moment. "So where have you hidden it this time?"
"Not going to work, Lawson."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I am going to have a Frozen free weekend. Something that I feel like I haven't had since March."
"You say that…" He started until he saw the look on her face. "You know what is a good Disney film. Bug's Life."
"That isn't a Disney film."
"Isn't it?"
"It is a Pixar film. And it is A Bug's Life."
"No, it's Bug's Life."
"Still not a Disney film." Rachel said as she turned her attention back to her paperwork.
"Shrek."
"Not a Disney film."
"That is still a good film."
"Just not a Disney one."
It was Eddie's turn to huff as he tried to think about a film that was a Disney film that Rachel would approve of. It meant that it couldn't have any catchy songs in it. Although he felt that might just be every Disney film going.
"Brother Bear." Eddie finally said.
He watched as she stopped doing her paperwork to think about it. She hadn't said no straight away, which was more than a good sign that he had said something right.
"Do we have it on DVD?" She said as she resumed what she was doing.
"I don't think so. I can see if I can get it."
"I've always liked Lady and the Tramp."
"I'll see if I can get that as well."
"Just keep her attention off Frozen."
"Yes, Miss."
Eddie knew the shake of the head and smile that he was going to get off Rachel.
"Don't you have a lesson to go and teach?" She said.
Eddie rose out of the chair at the same time that the bell rang. He walked towards the door and, for some reason, couldn't resist saying something, knowing that it would come back and bite him later.
"Rach, maybe you do just need to let it go." He said before he quickly shut the door to her office.
He was fairly certain that the stress ball that she had been gifted during secret Santa the year before made its way through the window, missing him as he went as quickly as he could to his classroom.
Eddie knew that he was still in the dog house. Even if it had been a week since their conversation. He knew that he was going to be in there for even longer if he said what he wanted to say. But as he passed Rachel over her hot chocolate as she was playground duty (with everyone taking in turns to standing out in the freezing cold), he could help himself as he stood next to her and watched the kids as they attempted to have snowball fights and build snowmen in the little snow that had fallen that morning.
"Do you wanna build a..." He started.
"Absolutely not!"
"Sure?"
"Positive."
"How many…"
"You are the sixth person to ask me that in five minutes."
"Bath duty for next week."
"Bath and bed duty for the next two."
"Really?"
"Well I can punish you, can't I? I don't think the parents would enjoy it if their child came home and said that they had detention because of a song. And if there is anyone that knows my feelings about it, it is you."
Eddie, as always, found the funny side of it, with his smile only growing.
"Alright, Scrooge. Will you be banning Mariah Carey next?"
"Yes, because it is an awful song."
"I can agree with you there."
"God forbid if they bring out a sequel."
"Maybe we should watch some real Christmas films this weekend. I'll see if I can pick up Miracle on 34th Street. And we already have the Muppets Christmas Carol on DVD."
"Now you are speaking my language."
Eddie was glad that Rachel was smiling up at him now, thinking that he might have got himself out of the dog house a little bit. If anything, he was getting a little sick of the film as well, hoping that the hype would calm down over the next year.
"Hey, Sir, Miss, do you wanna build a snowman?"
