Chapter 33...
{Clary's POV}
I had never let anyone see me cry, not even my father.
But it was different with Jace, everything was.
I allowed myself to relax into the security of his arms that night, allowed myself to pretend that if I was with him then all of my demons would stay buried.
But even Jace could not have protected me from what was to come.
{Time Skip}
When I woke that morning, I realized that I had fallen asleep against Jace.
Feeling the blood rush to my face, I slipped out of his warm embrace.
Suddenly feeling cold, I tiptoed to the bathroom - doing well to not wake Jace.
I stood very still, allowing the water to run all over my body.
The hot water stung my wounds a little, but it was worth it.
Pain always seemed to clear my mind - gave me something to focus on.
Once I had felt the water had soaked through every inch of my body I stepped out of the shower.
Wrapping my towel around myself I cussed loudly.
I had not brought in any clothes with me - what if Jace was awake?
But then I pulled myself together and thought,
No, you will not be embarrassed or skittish. You are wearing a towel.
Turning the door knob and stepping into the room I noticed that the room was in fact deserted - Jace must have left.
With a sigh of relief I crossed the room and pulled on some training gear, before I braided my hair into 1 tight dutch braid winding down the back of my head.
As I braided my hair I felt a sharp pang in my chest.
Amatis.
She was the one who had taught me, god knows where she was now.
Or what was happening to her.
I knew that I would have to get her, she would have done the same for me.
She did do the same for me.
{Jace's POV}
I had woken up that morning by myself, I heard the shower running and assumed Clary had slipped out of bed.
Shit, this was now the 2nd time we had fallen asleep in the same bed.
Somehow I felt that it wasn't a coincidence - I had never really believed in the fates that much.
However, there seemed to be this supernatural force pulling me towards Clary. Wherever I was.
A sharp knock at the door snapped me out of my thoughts.
Striding across the room I opened the door and stepped outside, shutting the door behind me.
"What's up Alec?"
I asked in a cheery tone.
"I know we're not at the institute, but I thought we could still-"
"Train?"
I cut him off with a devilish grin spreading on my face.
Thankfully I was still in training sweats and didn't need to go back in the room to change.
"Let's go, I think Izzy is already in there"
Alec stated, already striding to the training room.
When we arrived at the training room I noticed that Izzy was in there, she was practicing her combat skills against a punching bag.
"Not bad form Iz"
I called out to her.
She stopped and turned with a confused look on her face,
"Not bad? I'll show you 'not bad' Herondale!"
Her face twisting into a challenging stare.
"Bring it on"
I matched her.
"You two have fun, I'm going to go practice my shooting"
Alec spoke from the weapons stand, grabbing a bow and quiver.
Izzy picked up 4 wooden sticks and chucked 2 at me, I caught them with ease and settled into a defensive stance.
Spinning viciously she lashed out her arm, and her stick nearly connected with the side of my head, if I had not bent backwards as to dodge.
Countering, I swung both the sticks at her side.
She blocked using both of hers, causing both of our hands to vibrate harshly at the sudden connection.
Noticing that she uses both of them to block, I attempted the same move on her other side.
However this time I only used one of my arms.
As she blocked using both her weapons, I placed the other one on her throat.
Kicking her legs out from under her, both her body and weapons fell helplessly to the floor.
"Not bad"
I repeated, flashing her a trademark Herondale grin.
Offering her a hand up, she said,
"Let's move onto knife throwing - I need to kick your ass at something"
{Clary's POV}
I made my way to the training room and heard loud noises coming from inside.
Quietly, I slipped into the room.
I saw Jace and Izzy picking up a couple of throwing knives each.
Also, I could see Alec getting in some practice with a bow. He wasn't actually that bad, surprising me a little.
Yet, I kept most of my focus on Izzy and Jace.
They seemed to be joking about a bit, before Izzy threw her first knife.
Her technique was all perfect, but her aim was wrong - she was aiming at the heart.
After her 3rd throw I could not take it anymore.
"Wrong, wrong, wrong!"
I exclaimed angrily from the door.
The 2 twisted to look at me, where Jace's face brightened Izzy's glowered.
"What do you mean wrong?"
She spoke defensively,
"You were hitting the heart, that's what's wrong."
I said pointedly.
"How is that wrong?"
Jace asked, curiosity emerging through his voice.
"About 60% of demons don't have hearts. So throwing a knife at an organ that isn't there won't do anything."
"Well it's worked for me so far"
Izzy snorted back at me.
"And how many types of demons have you faced?"
My question silenced her, at our age she would have only faced at least 7 types.
Nothing compared to what I had seen.
"If you think you can do better, then go ahead."
She smirked, probably thinking I could not best her.
"I don't find pleasure in knife throwing as a tactic, it's useless"
I explained, because I was right of course.
"Useless?"
Jace echoed.
"In a battle, once you have thrown the knife you will no longer be able to use it. Meaning you must always have so many on you for it to be considered a useful skill."
Jace nodded at my explanation, appearing to understand where I was coming from.
However Izzy shook her head,
"I just think you're saying that because you cannot do it."
Her eyes glinted malevolently.
"Ugh, fine"
Smoothly, I took the knife out of Jace's hand and took a lazy stance - knowing I would hit my target perfectly either way, it was drilled into me.
I dragged my elbow back, eyeing the dummy briefly.
With an explosion of speed I flung the knife forward and observed with satisfaction as the knife buried deep into the head of the dummy. Only the hilt could be seen protruding from the target.
"You were saying Isabelle?"
I gave her a knowing grin, relishing in the look of astonishment and defeat painting her face.
"Why the head?"
Jace asked thoughtfully.
"The head or the throat are where you should aim. Demons all breathe, so you cut off their air by the throat. And with the head, you can shut down nerve systems - causing them to either go crazy or die instantly"
{Jace's POV}
I think Clary was the only person I knew who could have said such a gruesome sentence with a smile.
Instead of making me wary, although I was a little, it made me admire her for her knowledge and skill set.
"However Isabelle. I seem to remember promising to teach you how to fall from 40 feet. Ready for your first lesson?"
Clary asked my sister with a charming smile.
As her and Izzy moved to ascend up to the ceiling, Clary gave me a small wink. Telling me not to worry.
Sorry this was short and not a lot happened - I am building character bonds.
Review and let me know what you thought!
