Hey everyone, here you go.
I had a bit of writer's block with this chapter, so I'm sorry if I have let you down in any way.
Chapter 46...
{Clary's POV}
Jace and I had been walking for around 8 hours before we decided it was time we took a rest, the sun was beginning to set and I would rather not be a sitting duck during the night.
Years ago I had learned of the rogue wolf packs that inhabited Brocelind Forest, and I did not want to be caught off guard in their presence.
Jace had brought a small canteen of water with him and he offered it to me as we sat down opposite one another.
"We are only about 6 hours from the Lake now."
I told Jace, I could tell something was bothering him, it was written all over his face.
"Clary, what are we expecting when we get to the Lake?"
I was slightly startled by his forwardness, but then again he had a right to ask.
"My father will be there accompanied by his closest inner circle members. They will be awaiting our arrival prior to the ritual."
"What ritual?"
Jace questioned back quickly.
"My father will attempt to raise the angel Raziel, and he needs the Mortal Sword to complete the triangle."
My father had told me his plans hundreds of times so that now they were burned into my brain.
"So why are we bringing him the one thing he needs to complete the ritual?"
I sighed out loud before answering, not that Jace was annoying me - I just resented speaking of my father.
"If we do not then he will do something far worse than summon Raziel. He can summon Lilith. My mother."
I spat the words out. Referring to the Queen of Hell as my mother disgusted me immensely, not that my other mother had made a very good impression on me until recently anyway.
"How?"
Jace picked his tone carefully, noticing the anger in my voice.
"The mortal instruments were put in place by the angel Raziel, yes? Therefore they form parts of the angel, however if someone were to replace one of the instruments with something belonging to the opposite of Raziel…"
"Then the being that was the opposite of Raziel would be summoned."
Jace finished for me, figuring out what I was implying. But judging by his facial expression I could tell he had more questions.
"What would he replace the Mortal Sword with then?"
I smirked at the memory of when my father offered me the 2 swords that day.
"Phaesphorus or Heosphorus."
Was the choice I had been given, although now I see my decision has played right into his hands.
Absentmindedly I reached for Heosphorus at my side and gripped the hilt as I explained.
"The blade Phaesphorus was created for the Morgenstern bloodline by Wayland the Smith. It is made of gold and adamas, but was dipped in dark silver that it sometimes looks almost black, however this silver wasn't ordinary. The silver forged with the blood of Lilith created the weapon for the Devil. That sword will replace Maellartach if we do not reach them in time."
Finally seeming satisfied with the information Jace remained silent only nodding at the words I spoke.
The sun had near fully set when me and Jace decided we should start walking again.
It was hard not to think about what was going on in Alicante, were they fighting already? Was everyone safe? Should we have stayed?
The questions kept swirling around in my head, until a sharp sound cut through my thoughts.
Jace's head had snapped up too, we had only been walking for around 2 minutes now. Many would have put that sound down due to animals in the forest but I knew better.
"Moloch."
I breathed, and Jace seemed to have heard me as his eyes widened in confusion.
The first greater demon my father had summoned for me to fight was Moloch, the oily stench that surrounded the denom was easily recognisable.
I didn't realise I had broken off into a run until I felt Jace's hand on my arm steering me behind one of the thick oak tree trunks.
"Why is there a greater demon here?"
Jace whispered harshly into my ear.
"Remember when I said my father would be surrounded by his inner circle members? This is another obstacle of his, we have to banish Moloch back to Edom."
I briefed him. Instead of panicking, which is what most young Shadowhunters would have done, Jace looked me with a glint in his eye. A glint I was very familiar with now.
"Ladies first?"
He offered with a menacing smirk creeping onto his face.
{Jace's POV}
Gladly, Clary matched my knowing smirk as we both pulled out blades from our belts.
I knew Clary felt most at home when she was in the heat of a fight, and one was presenting itself here perfectly.
Leaning against the trunk of the tree we both spun around it opposite ways.
As I turned I stared at what was before me, Moloch was no ordinary Greater Demon. He was renowned for being one of Edom's most fearsome warriors, and by the angel did he live up to his reputation.
His form was made of smoke and oil, the enormity of him was overwhelming - I could see why many feared him deeply, it seemed as though he covered every inch of my vision at once.
Chancing a glance at Clary I saw she was frowning, not in a confused manner though, she looked like she was putting together the pieces of a puzzle.
Finally she looked up toward the demon, it didn't have a face so she just glared at the centre of the being.
"Moloch. Come for another round?"
The demon made a horrific high-pitched noise, somewhere between a cackle and scream.
Seemingly unimpressed by the Demon's response Clary took on a low fighting stance and moved swiftly toward the vile creature.
Swinging her blade at an unimaginable speed it seemed that she was only succeeding in separating the smoke Moloch was made of.
After dealing the demon fatal blows Clary pulled a frustrated face, and I realised where I had seen that expression before.
Yesterday in the gym when we were training.
If Clary fought that recklessly now she could be wounded, she wouldn't be thinking clearly. But what scared me more is that I didn't know if I would be able to snap her out of it.
The second her eyes grew a malevolent, endless black I knew I had to do something.
"You see Clarissa, I've learnt a few new tricks of my own."
The demon's voice was poison in the air, and I started to dive over to where Clary was.
However, Moloch's advances on Clary were faster than my own and it seemed that the creature suddenly engulfed her.
Shielding my eyes from the thick black smoke I saw Clary being suffocated by the ominous mist of the demon, her eyes were wide open and screaming in my direction that something was very wrong.
My hearing suddenly went numb and after a few seconds I realised it was Clary's scream, her body was convulsing in the heart of the smog.
I knew I had to do something, but I had no fucking clue what.
Shit. Shit. Clary would know what to do.
Unnaturally my body began moving of its own accord, and I realised I had raised Maellartach high in the air as I leapt above the vile monster.
Gravity quickly took hold of my body and I made myself as heavy as I could, increasing the force I put on the blade as I pierced it through where the creature's heart would have been.
Simultaneously to when the Sword sliced through the centre of Moloch, he let out a skull-splitting scream. Though I was too caught up in the drive of the Mortal Sword through the demon to notice.
Closing my eyes as I landed hard on my feet, the penetrating sound coming from Moloch had evaporated along with the creature it seemed.
I opened my eyes suddenly to see Clary kneeling with her arms tight by her side and her head hanging abnormally low.
A rise of panic rose up in my throat as I crouched opposite her and pulled her chin up sharply.
Her eyes were blinking up at me as I stared her up and down - checking for immediate injuries, but she appeared fine.
"Clary are you alright?"
I had attempted to not sound worried, but my voice failed me miserably.
"We need to get to Lake Lyn now."
The darkness in her eyes frightened me as she glowered.
"Why Clary, what did you see?"
Widening her eyes at me she stood up slowly before speaking,
"The future. Jace I saw the future."
Perplexed by her meaning I yelled at her,
"Clary, what did you see!"
"They all die. Nephilim Blood will run through the streets of Alicante if we fail. I saw it, all those bodies. They were all slaughtered."
Hope you enjoyed the chapter, I was really nervous about publishing this one as I don't think I was myself.
Please review and let me know !
I am returning to school in a couple days so my updates may become more infrequent, but I will do the best I can.
Love you all and hope you had a good weekend.
