"Hold on, these are the presents so I'll have to keep this to put under the tree, right?, she said with a smirk, only letting her friend take the bag with the cookies.
Then she followed a happily bouncing Kara inside and was greeted by Alex who was just filling a glass with Scotch. To Lena's surprise the agent handed her the glass.
"Welcome, good you could make it", she said and then raised her own glass to clink it against Lena's.
For a moment, Lena stood frozen but at a prolonged glance from Alex she recovered and smiled.
"Thank you, Alex, for letting me celebrate with you." Then she lifted her own glass to toast and took a sip.
"Lena!" Kara's squeal came from the open kitchen and Lena, Alex and all the others spun around to look at the Kryptonian. "You brought my favorite cookies! And so many and all different kinds – even some I haven't tried before!"
Kara was so over-excited it was almost too much cuteness to behold and, accordingly, everyone was laughing as she bounded back to Lena to engulf her in another hug. This time, having set her bag down, Lena could hug Kara back. When the reporter pulled back she gave Lena a quick kiss on the cheek.
"You are the best, you know that, right?" Kara said with a huge smile before adding, "Now, come on and say hello to the others and meet my parents."
And before Lena could do anything but set down her drink, Kara had taken her hand and was pulling her into the living room where everyone was gathered. There were James and Winn who were laughing their heads off at something J'onn must have said. Then there was Maggie who had was lounging on the sofa with Alex, having a drink. She also saw Mon-El, Kara's boyfriend, who was talking to a tall, dark-haired man and a blonde woman.
"Mom, Dad, this is my friend Lena", Kara was saying as she pulled Lena over and they came to a halt in front of her parents.
Upon being introduced to Kara's parents Lena's heart began thumping rather wildly in her chest and the normally so calm and collected, professional woman could hardly hold her hand steady as she stretched it out in greeting, saying, "It's a pleasure to meet you."
