Big City Greens: The Elves

The Green family pickup truck sped down the road one cold December night. The reason they were in such a hurry is because they were visiting relatives on the other side of the country and didn't want to be late for their flight. However, in their frenzy to get to the airport on time, they forgot crucial detail.

"I think we're gonna make it on time." Bill said.

"This better be worth it." Alice grumbled in the seat next behind him.

"It's good we'll be visiting your cousins. I don't think we've seen them in a while." Nancy said.

"Well, at least someone agrees with me." Bill commented.

"I can't wait to visit the cousins." Tilly squealed in excitement. "What about you, Cricket?"

Unfortunately, she didn't get a response. She then looked to her side to see an empty spot. It was at that moment, she made a crushing realization.

"We forgot Cricket!" She gasped

The truck screeched to a halt as soon as she said that.

"WHAT!?" Bill cried.

"Oh, this ain't gonna be good." Alice gulped.

True to their fears, the house was a disheveled mess due to Cricket being left there on his own. He had taken a nap and he woke a lot later than expected only to find that he was completely alone. Now initially, he was ecstatic and proceeded to do whatever he pleased but after about an hour of this, he started to get rather lonely. He had no friends to hang out with because Remy and Gloria were all away with their parents

"Man, this was not as fun as I thought it would." Cricket sighed sadly as he slumped into the couch.

Getting up, he decided to head to the kitchen to grab a snack. As he rummaged through the fridge, he suddenly heard the doorknob clicking. It was locked so no one could get in. He peeked out of the kitchen to get a look of what was going on. His eyes widened when he saw three men outside wearing elf masks trying to get in.

"I gotta call the cops." Cricket gulped.

He quietly made it to ta nearby phone and tried to call the authorities only to find that the phone was dead.

"Oh right, the phone bill." He said.

Suddenly, there was the sound of shattering glass, causing the hairs on the back of his head to stand on end. He didn't want to know where they were now so in a panic, he ran to his room, locked the door and hid in the closet. The boy whimpered in fear as he tried to keep his mouth shut. He could hear their footsteps growing ever louder the closer they got.

Peeping through the crack, Cricket saw the door being effortlessly kicked open. Seconds seemed to turn into eternity as they tore the room to find him. Suddenly, the closet doors swung pen and he was face-to-face with the intruders. He could only scream his lungs out.

The worried family hastily ran for the door, hoping the house wasn't too bad of a mess. When they went inside, though, their eyes went wide with horror and awe. One man in an elf mask had his throat slit, another's head was smashed open, and the third was currently being stabbed a bunch by Cricket. He only stopped when he saw them.

"Well... you had an eventful evening." Bill stammered.

"I can explain." Cricket began.
