Moments later Lena found herself sitting between Kara and her mother and Mon-El was slicing up the delicious turkey and everyone was passing around side dishes which smelled heavenly. Lena couldn't remember ever having had such a Christmas dinner even though she had had a lot of fancy food in her life as a Luthor.
"This looks and smells amazing", she said, "Did you prepare all this yourself Mon-El?"
"Oh no, I'm only in charge of the bird here", he answered, gesturing to the turkey. "Eliza", he pointed to Kara's mother, "and Alex did all the other stuff."
Lena turned to look at the two Danvers ladies and said, "It seems the love for food and talent for cooking run in the family. This is amazing. Thank you so much for going through all that trouble."
Eliza looked a bit surprised by Lena's statement and said gently, "Of course, Lena, it's tradition, isn't it?"
At that Lena's eyes darkened and she turned her face away to look at her lap. She was again reminded of how different she truly was from everyone here. Even Kara, who was from a different planet, had grown up with Earth's Christmas traditions. But Lena had never experienced Christmas as a pleasant thing. In the Luthor household it had been a stiff celebration at which she'd always been clearly shown that she was not a true Luthor anyway.
Kara's voice jerked Lena out of her memories, "It is indeed and I'm starving", she said, "so let's eat!"
Everyone agreed and they started their meal and soon Lena had forgotten all sad memories of all the Luthor Christmases as she was eating her way through delicious dish after delicious dish and listened and talked to the others.
