"You are the dumbest girl alive!"
Midoriya cringed at the exclamation, but understood his rage. Ashido had just gotten into a bad fight with Todoroki. She desired to get him to use his full power, and not be held back by his malice towards his father. In the process she ended up hurting herself really badly, she kept using her already broken fingers for attacks. Both boys knew that couldn't be good for her health. Ashido was also very afraid of breaking her bones, so she pushed aside her fear just to help someone else. Midoriya loved that about her. She was always looking out for others. Kirishima on the other hand hated that about her. Mostly when she'd put herself in danger. He was clearly expressing that at the moment. Midoriya walked in, hoping to see if he could calm him down. He felt that Ashido had to already have been was no need to make her feel even worse in his eyes.
He pushed the door open, to see Kirishima waving his arms wildly in frustration, while Mina sat there with a sad smile on her face. Shadow was behind him of course, face palming. He was the first to notice Midoriya had come in. He tried to get Kirishima's attention by shaking his shoulder.
"What!?" He snapped, frustration in his voice.
Shadow pointed at the door, and Midoriya gave an awkward wave. He had a bouquet of roses in one hand. Ashido already had one, leading the young boy to figure Kirishima brought them. He could tell Kirishima's rage wasn't because he couldn't understand why Ashido would do something like that. He was angry out of concern. In spite of knowing where it was coming from, Midoriya couldn't help but be a bit scared.
Kirishima waved back. "Hey…"
Midoriya walked over to Ashido and handed the flowers to her. She gave a big grin and hugged her flowers before putting them next to her. "Thanks Midori."
Midoriya smiled back and nodded, before looking at Kirishima. He took a deep breath before speaking up. "I'm not happy about what she did either. But… I don't think this is necessary. She's already done it, and she's paying for it. Do we really need to kick her while she's down?"
Kirishima held the bridge of his nose and sighed. "I'm sorry. Both of you. You're right."
"It's nice to know you care!" She chirped.
Kirishima took a seat next to Ashido. He placed his hand on her shoulder. "I… I was so scared. How are your hands?"
"They're fine now but…"
"...But?" Midoriya asked, feeling the anxiety growing within him.
"If… I break my finger again... Recovery girl says she won't be able to heal me. My bones will be broken forever."
Silence filled the room, to the point where one could hear a pin drop. Midoriya was the first to speak up. "How will you use your quirk then?"
"...I don't know. I guess it's time to learn how to really control it."
"I guess so." Kirishima agreed. "At least promise us you won't do anything that outlandish again."
Ashido looked downward. Her silence was deafening. "I… I don't have a choice. I can't. But I also don't know if I can promise that. What if I need to…"
Kirishima put his hands in his face. "You can't put yourself last here Ashido."
Midoriya put his hand on her shoulder. "We'll cover you if we have to."
Ashido looked up at him in confusion. "What are you talking about?"
Midoriya smiled at her, and looked at Kirishima. Kirishima gave a grunt of understanding, just by looking at him, the boys were in sync. Ashido on the other hand, still was lost. Maybe she just didn't get boys. She was hoping they'd explain soon.
"We'll protect you." Kirishima stated bluntly. "If you need us, for anything. We'll be there. We won't let you hurt yourself like that again. And we won't let you handicap yourself."
"Right." Midoriya agreed. "You can count on us."
Ashido looked at them both. She was the one with the quirk of a legendary hero. She felt she should be protecting them. She didn't want them to feel obligated to be at her side at all times. Not to mention, it made her feel pathetic. Like she was some incompotent person who needed to be supervised. She finally had power, the ability to be a hero. Yet here she was, being protected by her best friend again. Now with Midoriya added to the equation. "I can't ask that of you guys."
"You're not asking though." Midoriya reassured. "We're doing this because we want to. Because we care."
"We really do Ashido. And we'll do anything for you." Kirishima added on. "Even the strongest heroes need someone watching their back. But you need to be able to ask us for help. Call us when things look bad. And we'll be there in a picosecond."
Ashido blinked a few tears away. She didn't want to break down in front of them. Sometimes she felt like she didn't deserve such good friends. She looked at them both and smiled brightly. "I… really appreciate that."
Kirishima and Midoriya were happy that they managed to get through to her. Ashido could be stubborn, so her relenting so quickly was a miracle. Ashido would always do what she could to protect everyone, but especially the two of them. It was only fair they returned the favor. Even if she had vehemently denied their idea, they wouldn't have cared. They'd do what they had to. All this did was make things easier on them. Not that they'd complain about the idea of not having to restrain their friend in order to keep her safe.
"I'd hug you guys, but I think I shouldn't move too much." Mina said half-jokingly.
"No worries." Kirishima responded.
The two boys lightly hugged her. She blushed happily, even if she felt a bit embarrassed. They finally released her after a few seconds.
"We should leave you be. You need your rest." Midoriya noted.
Kirishima smiled at her. "Stay out of trouble Ashido."
She gave one last smile to her friends as they left. They closed the door behind them, and Mina slumped in her bed a bit. They made it so hard to figure out which one of them she actually liked. She wondered briefly if she liked them both, but dismissed the idea. She was probably just tired. She laid her head down and drifted off to sleep. She hoped that she'd have dreams as sweet as them.
