Hiccup woke up the next morning, and after a good breakfast, he started to make his way towards the care shelter. On his way, if he was being stalked and every time he turned around the corner, he couldn't help look back. Though every single time you did, he found no one was tailing him though that only needs more concerned.
He still hadn't received any kind of contact from his friends, not even a letter. Of course, it wasn't for lack of trying he tried to contact them several times. He can expect to receive anything from Ragnar as he was a bit of a traveller, the last he heard he was still trying to track down Johann.
His deepest concern was the lack of contact from Astrid, their relationship was rather lucky when they first met, but it had improved greatly during their last quest. Facing certain death on a regular basis somehow gotten closer as strange it might sound.
Regardless he reached the care shelter and began going to work by helping the other volunteers with helping the homeless. It felt good helping those who needed it it was certainly more peaceful than fighting all kinds of monsters.
He was currently in the kitchen, getting lunch ready when Eric entered carrying a whole bunch of plates.
"Who ready yet?" Eric asked.
"Almost done," said Hiccup.
Place the cleats down and looked at him curiously. "You seem to be rather chipper today."
"Finally managed to convince my dad to go on a date with his therapist," Hiccup smiled.
Eric blinked. "Really?"
"You sound surprised."
"Well, your father is quite stubborn, a trait that you share."
"Good thing otherwise I wouldn't be able to convince him."
"Hoping to get a stepmother out of the deal?" Eric asked as he got the plates prepared.
"I just want him to be happy, and truth be told I don't think you ever find someone to replace my mother."
"Yeah, my father said the same thing," Eric nodded. "Though I have to say you're much luckier than I am at least you still have your father."
Hiccup sighed. "Eric…"
Eric held out his hands. "Not that I'm jealous, just saying that you're lucky the most."
Hiccup half laughed as he began cutting vegetables. "Lucky? Me?"
"You father that cares for you, you go to this fancy school, which you tell me very little about I might add, you have friends and girlfriend."
Hiccup nearly sliced off his fingers. "I don't have a girlfriend!"
"You keep talking about this girl Astrid, she has to be someone special you keep going on about her."
"Not even sure with friends, we haven't stayed in touch since we left for the summer."
"When you told me she's trying to patch things up with her mother," said Eric folding his arms. "Though I find it strange that most are your friends seem to have single parents."
Hiccup was beginning to wish that he had mentioned anything about the Academy, the more Eric knew the more danger he would be in. He let slip that he went to a boarding school out in the Yorkshire Dales and that he had several friends with similar lifestyles. Naturally, he neglected to mention that two of them were an elf and a dwarf and all of them were demigods.
"If you don't want to tell me that's fine," Eric shrugged. "The man must have a few secrets."
"Look, it's not that I don't want to tell you it's just that I can't."
"Don't tell me to school to train super spies or something."
"No, no," said Hiccup quickly. "Though I think you could say that it is rather militant."
"Given that, your father was a former soldier that shouldn't be a surprise," said Eric.
It was then the door burst open, and Hiccup was grateful for the change of subject. That was until he found that it was Butch and his goons that burst into the room.
"So this is well the losers gathered," said Butch as he looked around.
Hiccup sighed as he didn't need to have foresight to know that trouble was in the near future. "What do you want we're rather busy."
Butch snorted. "Yes, helping to feed all these losers must be a taxing job."
"I would show a bit more respect here, Butch," Eric advised.
"Why should I show respect when none of them have any."
Hiccup normally didn't let his anger get the better of him, but he was starting to lose his patience. "How you get to the point, Butch! If you're looking for food then you're out of luck, this food is for people who actually need it."
"As if I would want anything from you."
Hiccup narrowed his eyes. "Then what do you want?"
"Just to show you who is boss around here."
"You really want to start trouble here?" said Eric rolling his eyes. "There's no way you'll be able to get out trouble if you start something. Besides, I can think of more important things to do than dealing with you. For instance, helping all these poor people."
Butch shook hadn't discussed. "Why would anyone help losers like these are never know."
"I'd watch what you say, you may end up in trouble one day, and no one will help you," Hiccup warned.
Butch snorted. "Like I need anyone."
"Yet you need your motley crew," said Eric gesturing to his goons.
Butch narrowed his eyes. "I can take you down all by myself."
"Then prove it," said Eric as he removed his apron.
Hiccup was now starting to get concerned. "Eric, what are you doing?"
"Don't worry Hiccup, there's no way he would have the guts to challenge me all by himself."
Hiccup normally didn't question Eric's wisdom, but right at this moment, he was doing just that. He had no doubt that Eric could beat Butch one-on-one, but he very much doubted that Butch would honour such a challenge. Additionally, he was rather concerned that the fight might damage the shelter.
"Perhaps we should take this outside," Hiccup suggested.
"He is as good as places any," said Butch.
"So you are fighting?" said Eric sceptically.
There were several tense moments as the two try to stare the other one into submission. They stood there for a full minute, but Butch chickened out.
"We're going off with a warning," he said.
Hiccup gave a sigh of relief, for a second that he was afraid of a fight would break out.
"No," said Big Boy as he stepped forward.
Hiccup's heart sank to the pit of his stomach as he looked as if they want out of the woods just yet.
"Big Boy, I said we're leaving," said Butch grabbing his arm.
"I don't take orders from you," he said.
He then swatted but with the back of his hand as he was sent flying into the table. Hiccup was completely stunned, Big Boy was strong, but he was nowhere near that strong. The rest of Butch's goons appear to be just a surprise as he was.
"Let's get out of here."
The two of them then ran with their tails between their legs leaving Butch slumped over the remains of the table.
Big Boy then slowly approached Hiccup. "Johann sends his regards."
He then started to grow until he was about 10 feet tall and his skin was completely ice blue.
Hiccup suddenly realised that Big Boy was not an average ugly mortal, he was an average ugly frost giant. He can believe he didn't see this coming and he had the ability of foresight. Big Boy then raised his fist and swung it down towards him, but Eric moved in and took the blow.
The blow was strong enough to crack what I was beneath him, but he was holding his ground which was surprising.
Eric then looked up at Big Boy. "Not happening."
Big Boy snarled at him. "You're protecting him?"
"It's my job."
Eric then used all his strength and managed to push Big Boy back, and then Hiccup realised that his skin was ice blue was well. Eric was also a frost giant, but what was even more surprising was the fact that all the time they spent together, he had once tried to kill him.
Big Boy didn't waste a second to act and quickly swung his fist, but Eric managed to dodge it. However, he was so focused on his arms that he failed to notice his legs and was dealt in a powerful roundhouse kick, sending him crashing into the wall.
Hiccup blinked and saw that Eric was still standing and he realised that he just saw a premonition. Big Boy then swung his fist right down at Eric and Hiccup realised what was going to happen next.
"Eric left outside block in ten!" Hiccup yelled.
Eric got the message just as he dodged the best and quickly raised his left forearm and blocked the roundhouse kick.
"Thanks for the heads up!" he yelled.
"No sweat and when we gonna tell me that your frost giant?" Hiccup asked.
"Technically I'm a demigod actually just like you!" Eric yelled back. "I can explain later if we survive this!"
Hiccup certainly wasn't going to argue at least not yet, but he started to wonder if every friend he was going to make outside of the Academy had the surprising secrets.
However, this is not the time to think of such things and immediately twisted his ring and summoned his sword. He then quickly charged in and swung his sword dealing a nasty slash on Big Boy's right arm.
Eric then quickly jumped in and dealt two massive blows against his face causing him to stumble and crashing into the fridge later.
Hiccup could hear screams coming from the next room where all the homeless people were sitting waiting for their meal.
"Earthquake!"
"Everyone under a table!"
Hiccup was thankful for the glamour which shaped reality to mortal eyes to something they would understand. Though sadly he had no control over what they would see and if anyone came in here and saw Hiccup and Eric fighting they could come to the worst conclusion.
"We need to wrap this up quickly," said Hiccup.
"Sadly we don't have much room to move and the kitchen," said Eric.
Big Boy then rose to his feet. "Sadly for you, I don't really care what happens to this place."
He then grabbed a nearby cabinet and tossed it towards them, Eric jumped on the nearby counter, and Hiccup quickly rolled beneath the table to avoid it. Hiccup then jumped off the table and plunged his sword towards him.
However, Big Boy raised his left palm and used it to catch the sword. Hiccup saw blood was pouring out from his palm, but Big Boy didn't seem to care and then tossed them across the room. Eric jumped and managed to catch him in midair and landed on the ground.
"You're able to see into the future, right?" Eric asked.
"I have no control over it," said Hiccup.
"Maybe should work on it when you get back to the Academy," Eric suggested.
"Sadly, that won't be happening, because the two of you are going to die right here and right now!" said Big Boy.
He raised his giant fist node are prepared to crush them, but something hit him in his back, causing him to topple over and landed face-first into the floor. Hiccup looked up, and to his astonishment, he found that Astrid was standing there on top Big Boy with her axe embedded in his back.
"Astrid?" Hiccup stared.
Astrid raised an eyebrow. "What I have met have you got yourself into now Hiccup?"
"Hey, it's not like I asked for frost giant to attack me," said Hiccup.
"Ah, so this is the beautiful Astrid I've been hearing so much about," Eric smiled.
Astrid eyes turned onto Eric and then back to Hiccup. "I hope you have a very good reason why you're fighting alongside with another frost giant?"
Hiccup shrugged. "Honestly I would like to know that myself."
"I'll explain once we're out of danger," Eric promised.
They could hear voices in the other room now that all the fighting was over it appeared to them that everything was safe.
"Has the earthquake stopped?"
"Hiccup and Eric were in the kitchen, I hope that they're all right."
Eric looked at Astrid. "You should meet is outside while we try to clear things up."
Hiccup looked at him. "Clear things up? The place looks like it's been hit by a hurricane and there's a dead frost giant lying on the floor."
"Don't worry, I have a few tricks up my sleeve," Eric smiled confidently.
Astrid gave him a threatening look. "You better not try anything or you'll end up like him," she said, gesturing her head to Big Boy.
Then she walked out through the door without waiting for a response.
"Beautiful, brave, violent I can see why you like," Eric smiled.
Hiccup looked at him. "You seem awfully calm after receiving a death threat."
Eric shrugged. "You get used to them. Now I think we better try and explain the mess."
Hiccup was wondering how they were going to explain all this, after all, they had no control over the glamour. They had a death frost giant on the ground, Butch unconscious on a smashed counter and everything else in the room was completely smashed.
Hiccup braced himself as the doors open, and the other volunteers entered.
"Is everyone all right?" said a woman with short red hair.
Eric then quickly snapped his fingers and Hiccup could have sworn that he felt a draft billing the room.
"A perfectly safe as you could see the earthquake did a lot of damage," Eric assured them.
"We see that, but what about that boy?"
"Came here to harass us and ended up getting a bonk on the head for his troubles," Eric explained calmly.
"I better notify the police, but it looks like we're going to have to cancel lunch and you two had better head off home you've been through enough for today."
"Sounds good," said Eric and then started to make his way to the door. "Come on, Hiccup let's get out of here."
Hiccup was stunned. "How did you—"
"I'm a frost giant remember, and we are experts when it comes to glamour," Eric winked.
Hiccup shook his head, and he had a strong feeling that his summer vacation with be cut short.
