Hiccup immediately summoned Inferno and jumped in the well before anyone could grab him. However, the moment that his left foot touched the ground, a magic circle appear beneath it. When he tried to move his foot, he found that he was unable to do so and was completely stuck in place.
"W-what's happening?" said Hiccup.
"Just making certain that you stay put," Johann smiled. "You see I had Zar created magic circles around the well. The moment one of your feet touch the circle, it immediately gets stuck in place until the caster releases you."
"But my foresight, how would you know I wouldn't just simply avoided?" Hiccup asked.
"That was easy," said Zar as he tapped his staff on the ground immediately appearing around the well in several rows was several magic circles. "We just make sure that you will be able to miss one."
Hiccup couldn't believe he had been so careless, he should have expected a trap. Johann then approached him and immediately yanked the Eye out of his hand.
"I don't believe you'll be needing this," he said and smiled at the crystal. "Just as my father described."
Hiccup watched as they and gagged everyone; clearly, they only gagged them so they could warn him of the trap they had set.
Atras then bent down towards Heather. "And here I fall that our can be brought down lower, but you actually aligned yourself with humans. Being betrothed to a Light Elf was bad enough, but you would lower yourself by joining forces with the weakest of all the races."
Heather narrowed her eyes. "If humans are so weak, then how come more of them are in Valhalla? I remember hearing of a Dark Elf being welcomed into the hall the fallen."
Atras then slapped her across the face. "Shut it!"
"You leave her alone!" Ragnar roared.
Atras then turned his attentions on him. "Ah, the disgraced Light Elf, so we finally meet. I have to say I had been looking forward to this meeting."
"That makes one of us," Ragnar grunted.
"I'm actually being honest, I've always wanted to see what a disgraced Light Elf would look like and I have to say I'm rather disappointed. When I look at you, I can't see anything disgraceful about you, in fact, quite the opposite as far as I can see."
"If only my people could see clearly," Ragnar grumbled.
"Atras, leave them be," said Johann as he held Odin's Eye in his hand. "You have them both ones our transaction is complete and not before."
Atras rose to his feet and looked at him. "You already have the Eye what more could you possibly want?"
"I want the knowledge this Eye contains our treaty was rather explicit on that," said Johann.
"And how you plan on obtaining it?" Hiccup asked.
"Surely you know, it requires a sacrifice," Johann smiled.
"I know, but I don't think any of you are going to willingly sacrifice any part of you," said Hiccup.
Johann smiled at him. "Indeed, we may be allies, but none of us would make such a supreme sacrifice to gain such knowledge. Even I would not be crazy enough to gouge out my own eye for such knowledge."
"Are you calling my dad crazy!" Snotlout yelled.
"What would you call a man who gave up his eye just a drink some water?" said Johann narrowing his eyes. "The man was crazy enough to hang himself from a tree and stabbed himself with his own spear."
"So he could become a better king," said Hiccup.
"And look just how well he has ruled over his people," Johann scoffed. "He abandons his homes, and they can go wandering around the Nine Worlds to gain even more wisdom leaving his wife in charge in his stead. Also, in his infinite wisdom, he decided to change up the very wolf, my brother, who was going to devour him, creating the circumstances that would get him killed."
"Odin is a wise ruler, more than I can save with your father!" Astrid spat and then looked at the twins. "No offence."
"None taken," said Tuffnut.
"Yeah, our Mum is a real piece of work," Ruffnut nodded.
"I cannot believe that we're related," said Johann looking at them with disgust. "Instead of assisting me, the two of you decide to help the enemy."
"We're not their enemies," said Fishlegs.
"Yeah, Mum has never done us any favours, so why should we do anything her?" said Ruffnut.
Ordinarily, it would be weird to call a male god mum, but Loki is a shape-shifting meaning he didn't change his shape; he also changed his gender. In fact, one time he had transformed into a female horse and ended up giving birth to the eight-legged horse and Hiccup didn't know which was weirder.
Hiccup, however, was a little bit more preoccupied trying to figure a way out of this mess, but he lacked many options. He still had his sword and shield, when the orcs try to disarm him the weapons always returned back to him. Apparently, his shield was able to transform into a bracelet which was a dragon eating its own tail.
However, these alone were not enough to turn the tables, he was still unable to move thanks to the magic circle trapping his foot, and even if he could break free, everyone around him would quickly kill him. He had considered he used his foresight to see if he could find a way out of this mess, but he decided to only use it when things were even grimmer though he can see how grimmer they could get.
"Can we get back on track on how you're going to unlock the wisdom inside that Eye?" Eret asked.
Hiccup has somewhat been hoping that Johann would continue to do a monologue while he tried to fit your way out of this. Sadly, there was no way could let the others know what he was thinking or for them to tell him what they were thinking.
"Yes, we do appear to be straying from the point," Johann agreed. "As I said, no one here would be willing to give up a piece of them as Odin did. However, thanks to our Dark Elf friends, we have another means of acquiring this wisdom."
Heather looked confused. "But if there had been another way to acquire the knowledge Odin would have already done that?"
"Because there are things that he draws the line on like sacrificing innocent lives," Johann smiled viciously.
"And who are you planning to sacrifice?" Hiccup asked not liking the evil smile on Johann's face.
"Well, generally sacrifices work best on a beautiful human maiden," he said.
"You're going to sacrifice me your own sister?" said Ruffnut.
"Uh, sis, I think he was talking Astrid," Tuffnut whispered.
Hiccup tried to move, but it was impossible, so he had no choice but watched helplessly as one of the orcs grabbed Astrid and pulled her towards Johann. He then drew out a knife and smiled down at Astrid.
"It's not anything personal my dear and believe me it'll hurt me a lot more than it will hurt you," he said.
"I sincerely doubt that," Astrid glared.
Johann looked at the orc. "Hold her down."
The orc firmly grasped Astrid's shoulders, preventing her from moving, and Hiccup decided to use his foresight to see if there was any way out of this mess. He saw several visions which he assumed to be possible futures, but almost all of them ended up with Astrid being sacrificed. However, there was one where Astrid would live there were required a sacrifice from him.
Hiccup watched as Johann drew closer towards Astrid holding the knife mean his hand he realised he had no choice. He took a deep breath, grasped his sword tightly and then with one slash he cut through his left leg just below the knee.
It took every bit of Hiccup's willpower to not scream as he did not want to bite his tongue off. He quickly wasted no time and immediately used all his strength to hop towards Johann and the orc. Luckily everyone was still preoccupied with the sacrifice to notice him, it was only until he collided with the orc when they all saw him.
"What happened? How do you free himself?" Snotlout stared.
"He didn't," said Heather with tears in her eyes. "He made a sacrifice to save us."
"He was willing to go this far?" said Atras.
Zar actually looked impressed. "No questioning the boy's spirit."
Hiccup didn't waste a single second and immediately plunged his blade into the orc before he had a chance to react. Then with some blinding speed immediately removed his belt around his trousers and used it to close his wound for he fell unconscious due to blood loss.
Johann looked at him, who managed to recompose himself after Hiccup's heroic feat. "A valiant effort, but all for not. You sacrificed your leg in order to kill one orc, but there are plenty more where he came from, and now you richly don't have a leg to stand on."
"Hiccup, I hate to say, but he's right," said Astrid.
Hiccup noticed that during the chaos, she had managed to roll away from Johann.
"I had to do it, there was no other choice," said Hiccup.
"How romantic," said Johann, who looked as if he was about to throw up. "However, I still possess the Eye, and I have all at my mercy. What hope do you possibly think you—"
He then stopped, and everyone stared as the Eye of Odin began to glow. Then suddenly it shot out of Johann's hand and flew over towards Hiccup landing in his palm. The moment it touched his skin Hiccup was slammed with a wave of knowledge. It was hard to describe; it was like reading an entire textbook every second.
Hiccup was starting to worry whether he would ever stop, but no sooner had the thought come into his head, it quickly stopped. He then noticed that everyone was looking at him bewildered, it was only then that he noticed that he was glowing in a bright blue aura.
"What just happened?" said Atras.
"The Eye of Odin bestowed upon him the knowledge I wanted!" Johann roared furiously. "How? How could this have happened?"
"Isn't it obvious," said Heather. "It's because Hiccup was willing to sacrifice his leg to save us. Your human sacrifice would never have worked, to gain the knowledge you yourself have to sacrifice something."
Johann indeed looks furious and glared at Hiccup. "Not like that knowledge is going to do you any good, you are still helplessly outmatched and outnumbered."
Hiccup merely smiled as he knew what was going to happen next. "Better think again."
His eyes and immediately turned towards the sky, and for the first time, everyone had noticed that storm clouds were beginning to form over their heads.
"Storm clouds?" said Atras stunned. "But it never rains here in Svartalfheim."
"Unless someone is channelling their power," said Johann and his eyes immediately turned towards Astrid.
Astrid had managed to free herself by using a rock in order to cut the rope around her wrists while everyone attention was on Hiccup. She had then untied her legs and immediately grabbed her axe, and an electrical aura was covering her body.
"I've been wanting to do this for some time," she said.
"Get down!" Johann yelled.
Astrid then immediately raised her axe into the air, and light inbox began raining down on top of them. Ordinarily, Hiccup would've been worried about lightning raining down from the sky, but Astrid was concentrating the lightning over Johann and his men. The orcs and Dark Elves were scrambling in all different directions as they try to avoid the lightning, colliding with one another. Sadly most of them actually got struck by lightning and fell to the ground chard to a crisp.
Johann looked absolutely furious and decided to turn that rage towards Hiccup. "You always have to ruin everything, don't you?"
Hiccup merely shrugged. "What can I say I like to cause several violent hiccups in your plans?"
"I'll make you regret the day you were born!" Johann roared as he drew out his daggers.
He then charged towards Hiccup, but before he could get 50 yards from him, an arrow struck him in the shoulder. Johann roared in pain as he turned his head and standing there were several heavily armoured Dark Elves and leading them was a woman with short blond hair, a rare thing in a Dark Elf from what Hiccup had witnessed.
"The Defenders!" Atras stared. "What of the honour guard of the Queen doing here?"
"Eliminating several terrorists, that's what we're doing here," said the woman.
Heather smiled upon seeing her. "Mala!"
"You know her?" said Fishlegs.
"She's my brother's wife," Heather explained.
"Your brother is married?" Snotlout blinked.
"Is that really so shocking?" Eret frowned.
Hiccup was grateful for the reinforcements, he can only imagine the amount of power Astrid put into a previous attack she had to be drained. Also, he wasn't exactly in any fighting condition, he was barely able to stay conscious, let alone hop around and fight.
Johann no doubt came to the same conclusion and quickly turned towards Zar. "Zar, portal!"
Zar snarled at him. "You wish for us to run?"
Johann glared at him. "Unless you want to die here and prevent us from fulfilling our mission, I suggest you do what I say!"
Zar was clearly reluctant to run with his tail between his legs, but he merely slammed his staff into the ground, and a portal appeared around them.
"Do not let them get away!" Mala ordered her men.
Johann was the first to jump into the portal followed by several surviving orcs. Hiccup saw a few Dark Elves were literally dragging Atras towards the portal.
"No, not when I'm so close!" he yelled, and his eyes immediately turned towards Ragnar and Heather. "Mark my words, I will kill the two of you, even if it's the last thing I do!"
Once they were through Zar entered the portal himself, and it closed directly behind him. Unfortunately a few orcs and Dark Elves one lucky enough to get the portal in time and were left stranded.
"Put them in chains, all of them!" Mala ordered.
Astrid immediately rushed towards Hiccup. "Hiccup, are you all right?"
Hiccup smiled at her. "I am now that I know you're all right."
Tears began to form in Astrid's eyes as she looked at him. "How could you do something so reckless?"
Hiccup looked at her, but then he started to lose consciousness and fell to the ground.
"Hiccup!" Astrid screamed.
"Get a healer now!" Mala ordered.
Then everything went black.
