Gaster stood there in silent shock, his soul pounding in his chest, he couldn't believe it. Every question ran through his skull like a tornado, racing frantically as they tried to gain answers. It didn't feel real..

However, as the roar of the monsters cheers rumbled loudly throughout the courtyard, Gaster felt reality beginning to set in. Prince Asriel and Princess Chara had been found dead and now, King Asgore had just declared war on the humans.

His bones rattled quietly, there were so many questions he wanted to ask. He wanted to know why this had happened and he wanted to help his long term friend to calm down but… It was far too late for that now.

They were at war once again and he hated it.

Several hours had passed since Asgore made his announcement, Gaster walked through the quiet hallways towards the throne room. The king had asked him to come, a part of the skeletal monster was curious but the other half knew. It must have something to do with the announcement.

Gaster soon arrived at the throne room, taking a steadying breath before entering. Asgore was sitting silently in his throne, his long golden locks covering his eyes as his head was bowed.

"Your Majesty, I have arrived." Gaster announced, stopping at a respectable distance. Asgore remains silent for a moment before responding.

"Thank you for coming Gaster, I apologise if I interrupted anything of importance." The king raised his head, he had been crying! His tired old eyes were so worn out, it hurt the scientist to see.

"Not at all Sire, I am here to serve." Gaster politely bowed, looking at his friend with a light smile. Asgore couldn't help but giggle a little at that.

"Now what did I tell you about such formalities? You are my friend, you may just call me Asgore." The goat monster softly smiled, Gaster always knew how to make him laugh.

"I know. Now then, why did you call me here Asgore?" Gaster questioned, he was still a tad curious to know why he had been called here. Asgore's smile dropped and he let out a lengthy sigh.

"Toriel… She's gone. Once I announced war, I found her crown and a note… She didn't want any part of it and left me." The king wailed sorrowfully, his big form shaking as he wept. The skeleton was quick to comfort the king, gently embracing him.

"I… I'm so sorry Asgore, I'm sorry.." Gaster couldn't believe it, Toriel left? How could she? Why didn't she discuss it with Asgore before leaving? Did she intend on hurting him like this?

The scientist thought back on how he first felt when Asgore declared war, a brief understanding washed through him. She could have, at least, tried to talk with him! She's the queen for goodness sake, why would she be so thoughtless!?

Asgore clung desperately to Gaster, sobbing into his shoulder/chest. Gaster stroked his back gently, trying his best to soothe the distraught goat monster.

After a few minutes of this, Asgore pulled back. Shakily wiping his tears away.

"I'm sorry about that.." Gaster shook his head, tenderly stroking Asgore's cheek.

"Don't be. If I were in your place, I would be upset too." The old goat sighed, leaning into Gaster's hand. The gentle stroking was quite soothing.

"Thank you, I appreciate your understanding." Asgore weakly smiled, a deep rumbling purr coming from his chest/throat. He truly was grateful for Gaster's company, he wasn't in the right mind to be alone.
