Something fishy
It was a really nice day on Mako Island. The sun was shining and there was a gentle breeze. I guess Silver and Tails decided to take advantage of that and now they were pulling the boat on shore. Tails jumped out of it and looked at all the vegetation rising in front of him.
"So. This is the place that turned you into a fish." Tails said, taking a deep breath of the fresh air.
"A merhog, Tails." Silver corrected him, visibly irritated.
"Yeah, that's what I meant. Tough, I was expecting something more... Anticlimactic."
The kitsune grabbed his equipment and told Silver to lead the way. Once they were in the jungle, they started climbing.
"So, where are we going?"
"See that volcano?" Silver pointed. "The cave is up there."
"What? Why up there?" Tails complained.
"I want to find answers Tails. It takes hard work."
Tails pouted.
"Well it was nice of Knuckles to borrow us the boat. Pity we can't use here."
After a pretty long time, they finally reached the volcano and the river.
"The entrance is there, near that waterfall." Silver explained. "I can't get any closer or I'll..."
"I know, I know. You'll transform." Tails looked like he understood that part. "But, how do you get in then?"
"I swim."
"You swim?" Tails was simply stunned. "You mean... The hike was optional?! I could've just swam in there?!?"
"Fifty meters? Without coming out for air?" the ivory hedgehog asked boldly.
"Right! Point taken. Air is good."
"Anyway. The entrance is right..."
"Wait! Don't tell me!" Tails interrupted. "I think it would be better if I discover the cave the way you guys did. That way it would be more... Scientific!"
"Watch your step then." Silver warned.
"Don't worry." The fox said walking forwards. "I'm a scientist! I know exactly what I'm..."
His foot slipped and he fell right into the entrance to the cave, tumbling down, him and his equipment. Well, I guess Tails' wish came true?
Silver crouched over the entrance.
"See you down there!"
So he turned back the same way they came.
In a few minutes, he was in the water, swimming to the secret entrance. When he got his head out of the water, Tails was just entering moon pool cave. He looked around with awe and then up, through the volcano cone. His reaction was:
"Wow."
"Pretty cool, huh? So, where do we start?"
Tails put down his stuff and inhaled.
"First, I'll have to map this place. And then, I'll need some rock and water samples for testing. Something in this environment triggered your transformation. When I find out what that something is, we'll find out how you got your tail..." He sat down on the white sand and crossed his hands." And then we start asking 'why?'."
At Marble Café
"The 'Miss Sea Queen Pageant'? Are you serious?"
Shadow was at the café with Sonic and Amy. Mostly because Sonic had a few hours to spare before he had to go to the Marine Park.
"The 'Miss Sea Queen Pageant'!?" Amy exclaimed. "Let me see!"
Shadow handed her the flyer with the info on it. Amy took a glance at it but it was quickly snatched out of her hands. Amy looked up surprised.
"Oh. Monika... I didn't knew you came back."
Monika gave Amy disgusted look at inspected the flyer.
So, I should explain what's with Monika. She is Matt's cousin and she is two months older than Amy. She has a more brownish color compared to Matthew, but she had the same, deep cyan eyes, much to the confusion of ones, that could swear that their brother and sister. She ussualy wears light clothes and a jean jacket, plus her obligatory black belt.
She was gone for a few weeks in a neighboring town and she didn't tell when she would come back. Unfortunately for Amy, she just found out.
"You don't think of entering the pageant, do you? Probably because I'm entering!" Monika announced.
"Well, maybe I want to enter!" Amy said defiantly.
"Don't even think about it. There's no chance for you to win. And plus, I always had an affinity to the sea."
"You?!" Sonic decided to stay quiet till then but now he was done with it. "I'm the one with the affinity to the sea, how dare you even think about..."
Shadow stepped on his foot, hard, interrupting him mid-sentence. When Sonic looked at him angrily, he slowly nodded negatively.
At Sonic's house
Lilly had looked everywhere into her closet. How could she not have a black belt? She had an orange, a purple and a white one, but none of them matched her shirt. She growled in annoyance and walked down stairs, into the living room, where her mom was doing the vacuuming.
"Mom? Where's Sonic?"
Mrs. Sertori, or easily said, Laure, stopped the vacuum and looked at her daughter.
"No, he must have went out." she answered.
"He is never here anymore!" Lilly complained. "He's always out with his stupid friends!"
"Don't talk like that." Laure lectured. "And I'm sure that if you want to play with him, if you ask nicely he could..."
"I don't want to play with him! I just wanted to borrow a belt."
Lilly turned around and ran upstairs into Sonic's room.
'I don't need his permission anyway. I can just take it and everything's cool.'
She opened the closet and started looking through the clothes, but when she opened a drawer, she found, under a stack of nicely packed t-shirts, a red notebook. Curious, like any child, Lilly took the notebook and opened it at the first page. She raised a brow.
"My secret life? That's weird."
Lilly turned the next page, only to be greeted by some weird drawings. She crashed on her stomach on the bed and with every page she turned she became more and more confused.
"What is this?!"
At the Marine Park
"Two of your most expensive loafs of ice-cream please."
Sonic looked up from the inventory jar and wasn't pleased with the view. He was handling the ice-cream cart that afternoon and he was going to try and respect Marine's rules. 'Always smile at the client!'. Even if the clients are Matt and Monika.
"Oh, it's you." Matt observed before Sonic could answer him.
In a sort of an awkward stage, Sonic asked.
"Flavors?"
"Umm.."
Monika pushed him on the side. What a jerk.
"I'll handle this one." She smiled superiorly with her eyelids half closed. "Oh, ypu choose. I'm feeling spontaneous and... Overconfident. I've seen a list of contestants at the pageant, not on my level. And sadly, your pinky little friend is not among them. If she is even going to participate. I also finished the preparations. Right now I have a costume that is... To die for. And I made it myself..."
She was shortly interrupted by Matt.
"Hey! You didn't make it by yourself! Give me some credit!"
Sonic was forced to stay there and listen to all that. He did knew that Amy wasn't going to participate, she told him herself, though it was clearly visible that she wanted to.
"Well then, good luck." He said sarcastically.
Apparently, nether of them got it, so after paying, they left without saying anything else.
Sonic sighted. Was Amy really not going to compete. She had a lot of creative ideas all the time, she could win for sure. Forget Monika and her stupid attitudes! How is...
"Ah, Sonic! There you are." Marine fortunately interrupted Sonic's thoughts. "We're low staff for the Miss Sea Queen Pageant. Can you do nine to four?"
"Uhh, yes! Of course!"
"Good. Then..."
"But actually, I have a friend that would like to enter the pageant."
Marine was nicely surprised and, smiling, she asked for the person's name.
Sonic answered with a smirk.
"Rose. Amy Rose."
She was entering the pageant.
"Mom? Don't you think that Sonic's been acting a little weird lately? Like he is involved in some sort of cult?"
Laure put down the iron and chuckled at her daughter's naivety.
"Do you even know what a cult is, Lil?"
"No... But I know it makes people do weird stuff."
Lilly was disappointed that her mother wasn't taking her seriously. She wanted to be taken seriously! She still had no idea what that dairy was all about but Sonic had to be hiding something. And speaking of the devil...
"Mom, thank chaos your home." he placed his bag down and looked at Lilly. "This doesn't involve you sis, so scram."
Lilly 'obediently' left the room, but she left the door slightly open so she can hear the conversation.
"So mom, is it a problem if Amy comes by later today?"
"No, why would it be?"
"Well great! Because we're going to need your sewing kit."
Laure was somewhere between shocked and surprised.
"My sewing kit? But what do you need it for?"
"Meh, you'll see later. But now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go upstairs."
Sonic smiled innocently and went to his room.
But Lilly wasn't gonna let that slide. She tip toed to Sonic's room and placed her ear on it to listen.
"Hey Ames! Guess what, you're in!"
'In what?'
"In the pageant of course!"
'What are you talking about? I didn't sign in to any pageant.'
"But I did! For you."
'WHAT? Have you lost your mind? What stupid gave you the idea to do that?'
"No one. Just that when you told me you don't want to participate, your tone was telling the exact opposite!"
Amy growled.
'But there's no way I can beat Monika!'
"Listen here Amy, I bet 10 rings that you can win the pageant. If you don't, my loss. Ok?"
'O-ok... But I don't know if I can make a costume in time!'
"That's why you can come by today and I'll help you!"
'Um, thanks. And when exactly?'
"Maybe at five?"
'Alright, I'll be there! Bie!'
"Bie!"
'He hung up. Now what? It's quiet. No, wait... Nah, it's too quiet. I'd better check it out.'
Lilly opened the door. Sonic was cleaning his fish tank, but there were no fish or water in it.
"Why are you always shutting your door?" She asked.
"To keep you out." Sonic said coldly. "Did I say come in?"
"But why do you want to keep me out?" Lilly tried taunting him.
"Because you're annoying. Now get out."
Instead of leaving, Lilly just closed in even more. She carefully studied her brother. Even if he seemed indiferent, it was clear that he was tense. His jaw was clenched, and so was the hand he was holding the sponge with. For some reason, Sonic was slightly holding one of his hands slightly up.
"Where are the fish?"
Sonic froze.
"Uhhh...their in the bath. "
Lilly looked suspiciously at her brother and walked into the bathroom. The bath was empty.
'I knew it. He's just trying to trick me.'
She went back into the room and, to her surprise, the fish were in the tank.
"How did you... THERE IS NOTHING IN THE BATH!"
"Did I say bath? Sorry, I meant bucket."
Lilly was about to crack.
She ran out of the room without saying anything, and, unknown to her, Sonic sighted in relief, happy that Lilly didn't see the fish in a floating sfere of water hanging from the ceiling.
At five o'clock, Amy came alright. She brought some materials for the costume. They started working at a table while pretending to read a book, but instead, while spying on to them from the couch, she was looking through Sonic's dairy.
Their mother was just cleaning around.
"What are you reading Lilly?" she asked, taking her by surprise.
"Uhh, something for school."
"Must be good."
Lilly nodded.
"It's very educational."
Because her attention was to Lilly, she didn't notice where she was placing her hand and she knocked over a glass of water right on Sonic's hand.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't meant it."
But Sonic didn't pay attention to her. Panicked, he quickly glanced at Amy and zoomed past his mom, to the bathroom. Lilly followed him, trying to keep up. When Sonic got up stairs, he slammed into the bathroom door, and he had to get up again and open the door, wasting precious seconds. It was enough for Lilly to catch up with him, and before Sonic could shut the door completely, he transformed, and his sister caught a glimpse of his tail.
In a combination of horror and triumph, she thought :
'So it's true!'
Repeated knocks in the door could be franatically heard in the house, interrupting the game of cards the family was currently involved in. Silver, as being the big, responsible brother, immediately stood up and went to answer the door. He wasn't really expecting anyone, maybe apart from Tails, but instead...
It was Lilly, Sonic's little sister.
"Oh...Hello there." Silver greeted, a bit awkwardly.
"I came here to see Venice." Lilly explained her visit.
"What for?"
Venice was a yellow hedgehog with blue eyes, like her mom (A. N. Yes, I officially changed Silver's mom to a yellow color.) and the quill stile of her dad.
Silver quickly created an excuse.
"Umm, I'm gonna go clean my room."
"We'll come and help you!"
Once only Lilly and Venice were in the room, Lilly sat down on the couch and Venice next to her. The light blue one took of her back pack and pulled out a red notebook.
"Look, read it, it's Sonic's dairy."
"I'm not reading someone's else's dairy!" Venice rejected.
"It's for your own good."
"It's private!"
Lilly took a deep breath.
"Look, I have reasons to believe that my brother, your brother, and... Possibly Shadow, are merhogs! Read it!"
Venice finally opened it and once she looked at the first page she felt like she was about to laugh. How naive Lilly could be sometimes.
"It's in code."
"So? It's all there."
A pause.
"It doesn't make any sense. They could just be doodles. I like to doodle." Venice said instead.
"But look at this!" Lilly started to turn the pages. "And this, and this, their merhogs! Besides, I saw Sonic in the bathroom with a fish tail!"
Venice was shocked.
"You spied on your brother in the bathroom?!?!"
"W-what? No! That's not that I mean, it's just that... Ugh, look I know it might sound crazy, but if I'm right, they even have weird powers over water."
Venice wasn't entirely sure if to believe Lilly or not. She was her one of her best friends, however she could be a little stubborn sometimes. And if what she was saying was true...
The girls heard footsteps from the hallway and Silver came into seeing. He noticed the girls looking at him.
"Don't mind me, I'm just getting a drink."
He opened the fridge and Lilly found the most opportune time to prove herself.
"He's a freak." she whispered while Silver was looking through the fridge. "What is he going to drink, huh? It can't be water, he can't touch the stuff..."
And bam, a bottle of water, in his hands and on the table. At this point, Lilly was out of words.
Silver opened the bottle and picked up a straw from a nearby container. He placed it in the bottle and he left, leaving Lilly flustered.
"You were saying?" Venice raised a brow with a hint of superiority.
"He's smart! He drinks from a bottle with a straw. So he won't get water on his fur!"
"I think you should leave Lilly."
Venice stood up while Lilly watched her with a stunned expression.
"You have got to believe me!"
"That's the thing. I don't." Vennie lead Lilly to the front door while the little blue hedgehog tried to convince her.
"They already had powers. My brother is fast, yours is psycho kinetic and... Whatever Shadow can do. But with these new ones, they could concur the universe!"
Venice opened the door.
"You should leave now."
Before she exited the door, Lilly warned her.
"One day, they're going to attack. And you are going to be their first victim."
"Venice. Venice! Open up!"
"I'll be out in a minute!"
Silver growled in annoyance. Why did he always had to be the last one in the shower?
"You've been in there for thirty minutes, what's taking you so long? There will be no hot water left!"
"It'll be fine."
Vennie giggled for herself. Sometimes she just loved teasing her brother. Silver sighted and leaned against the wall with his hand. Unfortunately, his hand was right next to the hot water pipe that was in the wall. Unwillingly, his power over water activated and, to Vennie's surprise and displeasure, it started to shower with ice! The small, rock hard pieces were hitting Venice like hail and, like it or not, she was forced out of the shower room. Freezing and trembling, Venice put on her bathrobe and opened the bathroom door, bumping into Silver.
When she looked up, she met eyes with her brother, who was honestly surprised and maybe even a bit worried. Instead, Venice looked at him just once, with a scared face and ran off.
Silver, now confused, glanced at the bathroom and since everything seemed fine, he just shrugged and shook it off.
Meanwhile, in her room, Venice was dialing Lilly with a concerned look in her eyes.
'Hello?'
"Lilly, you were right! A-about everything!"
"One minute I'm having a normal shower, and the next one it's hailing!"
It was morning, and since Vennie called Lilly pretty late, they decided to discuss the problems the next day, in the park.
"Don't worry, we just have to learn to handle this thing properly."
There was a pause before they got to a bridge.
"Maybe we should talk to them."
"Talk?"
"Well, yeah. I always solve conflicts through communication."
Lilly was genuinely about to face-palm.
"Venice, communication is for normal people. They aren't normal, they're like wizards or vampires, they can not be reasoned with."
"Then what do you suggest we do?"
Lilly answered with a confident smirk.
"I suggest we expose them."
Venice opened the front door and entered the house. She hung her backpack in the hanger, when she noticed Silver. He was reading, fully unaware of what it was happening around him. That would be the perfect opportunity to expose him.
She filled up a glass of water, silently, and slowly, she started walking towards him.
When Vennie was about to pour the water on his head, Silver turned his head to his sister, and Venice quickly took an innocent position.
"Hey, your back!" Silver greeted but he noticed the glass of water. "Umm, what are you doing?"
"Nothing! What are you doing?"
"Just reading."
"Would you like some water?" Venice offered the glass to her brother, though Silver quickly avoided her stretched arm to stay a safe distance from the glass, with an awkward agitation that was making it's way on his face.
"No thanks." he used his psychokinesis to lift Venice and move her two meters away from him.
Despite that being a warning to leave him alone, Venice decided to ignore that and walked back next to Silver.
"Why not? I'm happy to share."
Silver had a bad feeling about this.
"I'm not thirsty."
"In fact, I share everything with you because, you're my brother, and all I get in return are secrets and lies!"
Silver was now a bit confused, and the bad feeling was aggravating.
"What lies?"
Venice showed him the glass of water at his eye level and Silver tried to back up. What she was holding, wasn't an every day object anymore. It was a threat.
"Why didn't you tell me you were a merehog?"
"He heh, what are you... What are you talking about?"
"ARE YOU CRAZY? YOU WROTE A JOURNAL?!?"
After the whole incident at Silver's house, the ivory hedgehog heard from his own sister's mouth that Lilly found out about a journal Sonic wrote, and that's where she got all these ideas from. Once Silver came up with a proper excuse to leave, his first stop was at Sonic's house.
"Just a little one." Sonic said, rolling his eyes.
"With every little bit about our merhogness?" Silver asked, still angry.
"Don't worry, I didn't let anyone see it."
Silver's eye twitched.
"Really???"
Sonic stood up and opened a certain drawer from his wardrobe. He rummaged through it a little bit and he closed it with a loud banging sound. He turned around, his muzzle all white and his eyes filled with shock.
"It's... gone."
"I found the dairy in Lilly's room."
All of them were gathered at Marble Café to discuss the problem and meanwhile, Tails was doing mermobian research at the Café's public computer. And speaking of the devil...
"Look who's here." Shadow announced.
"I'm gonna mane her!" Sonic tried to stand up and give his sister the beat down of her life, but luckily, Amy was sitting right next to him, so she grabbed his wrist and pulled him back down.
"Sonic, it's not like that's gonna solve anything! Just ignore them."
Lilly was there with Venice, a table away. The two were determined to expose the merehogs.
"Why are Amy and Knuckles with them as well?" Venice asked.
"Well, they might be just like them. Freaks! We have to finish this." Lilly was confident about it. "Did you brought you brother's old gear?"
Vennie smiled and opened her bag to reveal a big water gun. She closed back the bag and they both giggled for... not really a reason.
"They aren't gonna let this go, are they?" Knuckles asked.
"Not at all." Silver sighted.
"Then we have to do something about it!" Shadow said.
Silver looked around. There was one last way to buy themselves time.
"Tails! Can you come here please?"
Tails heard him and left his spot in front of the computer to sit down next to Amy.
"Wait, Tails is one of them too?" Venice was surprised.
"Most probably."
"Oh, no, I can't see Tails as a merhog!"
"Don't be a dork! He isn't a merehog, he is a... a merfox, like... a fox merhog but... Oh, never mind. But we have to wait a bit."
"How much do they know?" Tails asked.
"Pretty much everything." Sonic clarified.
But how about we turn our attention to another table in the café. That's where Matt and Monika are sitting.
"Wanna hear something hilarious?"
"Hm?"
"Amy entered the Miss Sea Queen."
Monika almost spitted out the juice she was drinking.
"Are you kidding? Heh, imagine her pulling a costume overnight."
"Yeah, well, even better, Sonic is helping her. Buncha losers." Matt smirked.
Guess we'll be alternating between tables from now on.
"We need to create a different reality for them. Make them think that the dairy was about someone else." Tails proposed.
"Like who?" Amy questioned.
Tails glanced around the café. He smiled when he found the perfect victim. The kitsune stood up and made a sign with his hand for the others to follow him. They all gathered around the specific table we've talked about earlier.
"Heeeeeey, Monika!" Tails greeted.
The fox looked up in a seeming disgust and surprise. But a surprise was on the little girl's faces.
"Why are you talking to me? You never talk to me."
"Oh, but we like you Monika! We really do!" Amy said with a bitter sweet smile.
"Don't think I don't know that you've entered the contest, I know that Sonic is helping you, I know everything."
Sonic had a sceptic smile on his face.
"You do? Okkkkk." he pushed Amy out of the café and the others followed him, but Tails quickly returned back to the computer and exited the page he was on before leaving.
Lilly was stunned.
"There's more of them? It's a whole pack of aquatic creatures. We can't fight them here!"
Venice nodded.
But Monika was left to contemplate.
"Amy... She's got something up her sleeve. I'm not sure what that is."
"We should check." Matt smirked and walked to the computer Tails had used, with Monika behind him. He entered the history, accessed the newest page and they found...
"Mermobians?!" Monika exclaimed.
"That's what I call a rad idea." Matt teased his cousin.
"Shut up, Matthew, let's go."
Once the last two were out of the café, the little blue hedgehog ran to the computer wich was, hopefully, still on.
"Now this makes sense! Matt and Monika are the leaders!"
"Why do you think that?" Venice asked.
"These two are always the leaders."
At the harbor
"I need to pull a new costume over night, it's big, but I can do it."
"Oh you will, because you've always been a screw up when it comes to working!" Matthew laughed.
"I do not appreciate your humor Matt, so stop humiliating yourself."
What they didn't knew was that they were being spied from two sides. On the one side by Sonic, Shadow and Silver, and by the other side by Lilly and Venice, from behind some metal barrels.
They stopped next to a fisherman and Monika started fuzzing about what she needed. After she received them, the fox smiled in satisfaction.
"These are going to go great with my new outfit!"
"What are those?"
Monika laughed at her cousins lack of knowledge about fashion.
"Ah, they're accessories, you moron."
She passed her hand through her hair and she saw something behind some metal barrels. Or maybe two of someone. She walked over to the barrels to discover Lilly and Venice. She leaned down to them.
"Your Sonic's little sister, aren't you? I know what you're up to, you are not getting my secret. So stop spying on me, or you'll get it!" Monika finished up with a sadistic smile.
She straightened her back and walked away with Matt by her side.
"Wow, Mon, you can be really intimidating sometimes, no pun intended."
"It's a pageant Matt." Monika told him like he didn't know. "Can't take prisoners."
Despite the warning, Lilly and Venice ran after them and hid behind a car.
But, from the little cabin where the three other hedgehogs were spying on Monika and Matt, Sonic, Silver, nor Shadow, could to much of what they were talking.
"If we're gonna make this work, we have to make them think that Matt and Monika are the ones with powers." Silver said. "We just have to wait the proper time."
"Like when?" Sonic asked, a bit impatiently.
Silver looked outside to find a proper spot to make their number. He spotted a hose that wasn't closed properly, and it was dripping water, forming a puddle right in the middle of the alley way. Matthew and Monika were just a few feet away. Perfect timing.
"Ready? They are almost in position."
"Please, allow me." Shadow smirked mischievously. He took Silver's place and activated his power over water right about when the duo reached it. The liquid started to evaporate and once they got past it, it covered their back into a thick mist of water vapors. Upon seeing that, Venice's jaw dropped in shock, and Lilly smiled victoriously.
"Now do you believe me?"
At the Marine Park
"So, tomorrow, Amy, Monika, Matt and my freak brother are going to be on the scene for the pageant. Here, at the Marine Park, the perfect time to expose them." Lilly was now about to explain her master plan. "Because Sonic is helping Amy and Matthew is helping Monika with their costumes, they will sit right next to the girls. We'll take down the leaders, and then the others. "
"I'm scared..." Venice admitted.
"That's exactly what they want, Venice, now listen carefully. You will be here, behind the stage, next to the fire hose. I will be here, directly behind the stage. At my signal, you will turn on the fire hydrant and angle it over to this wall. The water will hit the stage, turning them into their wicked forms and us, into heroes! Any questions?"
"No..."
"You have to be brave, Vennie. But our reward will be countless. I just can't wait to see the look on Sonic's face when he finds himself lying on the floor, unable to run. Guess his speed won't help him there, huh?"
"I don't know."
"Anyway, remember Venice, if there is something somebody to fear, are the Mermobians." Lilly finished in a dramatic tone.
The next day, at the Marine Park
The sky wasn't really sunny, but outside wasn't too cold. Not the perfect day for a pageant, but hey, who's complaining?
"And now we have Jade Peterson as a... Starfish!" Marine was the presenter pageant. She was doing a pretty good job. The audience clapped. "And what a beautiful starfish she is! It reminds me of a..."
"Who are these people?"
Shadow was one of the only ones who seemed to be having a good time.
"Shadow, at least pretend you're having fun." Silver pleaded.
"But I'm not!"
Meanwhile, behind the stage, Lilly was going to put her plan in action. The two girls somehow managed to sneak past the guard who was at the door and they were making their way to the point of action. Before she opened the other door that lead right behind the stage, Lilly gave one last reminder.
"Ok, on my mark!"
Venice nodded and grabbed the water hose in her hands
"And our next jewel of the sea is Amy Rose!"
Amy and Sonic entered the stage, and she was a glamorous... Uh... Umm...
The audience was confused.
"Ah... Um, well Amy decided to be... Uh..."
Not even Marine was sure what to say.
"Will you give us a clue?" Marine said leaning her microphone towards her.
"I'm a Portuguese Man Of War." Amy explained smiling sweetly.
Everyone was still silent. Sonic rolled his eyes and grabbed the microphone.
"She's a jellyfish."
"Aaah, heh, well... that about sums it up!" Marine laughed nervously. " And now last, but certainly not least, please give a very warm welcome to Monika Kate!"
Monika showed up in the stage in her costume in all her glamor, on a wheeled couch (A. N. If that's how they call it, lol) being pushed by a lifeguard, while Matt was just walking by it, full of himself, and a confident smirk, like he's done everything himself.
"And she is a mermaid! How lovely! "
Shadow, on the other hand, was digusted.
"Well, at least I have this bucket to vomit in."
But Marine continued with the compliments.
"My, Monika, you look amazing! Did you do this yourself?"
Matt's smirk dropped.
"All the sewing and beading is hand made!" Monika explained.
"Hand made! That is just fantastic!"
Marine was simply mind blown.
Matt leaned a little to the left to Sonic.
"Wasn't your girlfriend supposed to be a mermobian of some sort?"
"Nope. And she is not my girlfriend."
But now that all of them were in position, it was time for Lilly's plan to shine as well. She gave the signal.
"Go Venice! Now!"
Venice activated fire hydrant, and aimed it just like she was instructed. It started to rain over the stage and all of the ones ones on it started screaming in surprise. But there is something else that happened. Even if he didn't knew yet, Sonic, now being a half mermobian, was able too feel the water if it would be used as a threat. He could feel that something was wrong even before Venice opened the hydrant. Listening to his instincts, he grabbed Amy's wrist and pulled her closer to him, catching her by surprise and activated his powers just before it started to shower. He kept both him and Amy protected from the water, and none of them got wet, even though it seemed like he was the one sheltering under Amy's large hat.
Lilly, satisfied, signaled Venice to stop the hydrant and victoriously entered the stage where her wet victims were standing.
"I knew it!"
She grabbed Marine's microphone. "
"There are mermobians on the stage."
Lilly pointed to Matt and Monika.
"They are their leaders and my brother and his girlfriend are part of their wicked plans!"
All Sonic could do at that point was face-palm. In the public, their parents watched everything in an angry shock.
The bodyguard who was at the door to the backstage, alerted by all the screaming, quickly came to see what happened, only to run into Venice. Without letting her say anything in her defense, he grabbed her by her shoulders and and literally carried her on the stage. When they got there, everyone pointed at Venice, gasping.
"She made me do it!" Vennie yelled to cover the noise, and pointed to Lilly.
Lilly, now being the center of the not so positive attention, she had to do something to prove her point.
"They're evil! And dangerous! Look!"
Ske knelt down at Monika and started to tare her costume!
"No! Wait! STOP! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?"
Shadow allowed a sassy grin to spread across his face.
"Finally! Something interesting."
Lilly was still doing her job fairly well in destroying the materials through Monika's screaming.
"Why is your tail ripping off?" Lilly asked.
"Because it's a cosume you moron!"
The little girl's eyes widened, realizing her mistake.
"Come here!"
Because of the hole that Lilly tore into her fake fish tail, Monika was able to stand up and she started to chase after the little girl. Well sorta.
"I'm gonna get you!" she snarled at Lilly.
When I said 'sorta', I didn't really express myself properly. What I should have said is 'not at all'.
Because the hole wasn't that big, Monika couldn't stand or walk to well. So, when she tried to grab Lilly, the girl quickly dodged and because of that, Monika tripped and fell of the stage. Marine, Matt and the other contestants gathered on the stage and looked at her.
"Well? Any help here?" Monika asked, in a mildly shaky tone, like she was about to cry. Instead, seeing her terrible state, most of the contestants and a part of the audience, started to laugh.
In an end, Matt came to the aid of his publicly humiliated cousin, and because it was clear that she wasn't going to win any prize, they didn't stick around and went home.
Most of the people started, in fact, to leave, including Amy.
Marine just finished talking with Lilly's parents who apologized for the whole mess their daughter had caused when she saw pink hedgehog. She was talking to Sonic, but Marine cought up to them.
"Amy! Amy dear! Congratulations!" Marine said while placing the little crown on the pink hedgehog's head.
"I... Won?"
Amy was just completely stunned. Sonic on the other hand smiled and nudged her with his elbow.
"You owe me ten rings."
Amy burst into laughter when she remembered the bet she had got involved in.
"Alright! I'll give them to you later."
Sonic chuckled and looked around. He spotted a little someone trying to sneak from her parents and run away.
"Wait here a minute."
Sonic dashed through all the people present there and cut off his sister's course. Lilly, instead, looked at her feet ashamed.
"Lilly?"
Sonic knelt down and placed his hand on Lilly's shoulder.
"I know you stole my dairy. Is that where you got all these crazy ideas from?"
"Dad says I'm not allowed to talk to anybody." Lilly said, pouting.
"Look, that journal was in fact an English assignment. We had to rewrite fairy tales. And I chose the one with the mermaids. It's fiction."
"But what about your tail? I saw it! In the bathroom!"
"Uhhh, that was Amy's first attempt of a costume. But it shrunk in her washing machine and she couldn't wear it. She was going to show it to me, but when I got into the bathroom, I hit her bag and it fell onto the ground."
"And the fish?"
"I told you. The fish were in the bucket." Sonic finished explaining.
Lilly sighted.
"I'm such an idiot. Like you couldn be a merhog. You can't even swim!"
Sonic smiled, half in understanding and half in relief. He patted her back.
"Come on. Let's get going."
On Mako Island
"I've tested everything. The water, the rocks, the soil, you name it!"
After that day's crazy incident, the three hedgehogs decided to give Tails, who was still on the island, running tests, a visit.
"And what did you find?" Shadow asked.
"Nothing! Everything seems normal." Tails concluded.
"So, that's it? You give up?" Silver queried.
Tails almost chocked on his drink.
"Hey, I am putting in a 100%!"
A few moments of awkward silence followed, until Silver broke the quiet once more.
"So, Sonic, what did you do with the dairy?"
Sonic smirked, satisfied.
"Don't worry about it. No one's gonna find it ever again."
Oh dear, I can't believe I did it! Just in time for Christmas! Phew. This has to be my longest chapter yet. After I finished my last chapter, I started writing about ten minutes or less every day and a few days ago, I realized that I'm not going anywhere with this so, well, here you are!
But now I have to really explain what's with Monika, heh.
When I started this, I split a few characters, like Louis, into other characters, each belonging to an aspect of his personality. Not all the characters in H2O need to have personality splits like Louis, but the problem is that Miriam is one of them. I had to split her into two parts, Matt and Monika. But here, Matt kinda plays the role of Tiffany as well but I mean, could imagine Matt competing in a girl's pageant? That would be hilarious! Hah! Heh... Uh.
Well, aside from that, it's also Venice. Venice is technically also an OC, but she's not my OC so it doesn't count.
.. Sorry guys, I only discovered 'Ghosts of the future' like what? Two weeks ago? If I would have known about their existence earlier, things would be a little different around here. Also, disclaimer time!

Man, I just love making disclaimers. When I'm in a good mood it makes me laugh how incredibly serious they sound.
In the end, I want to give a huge thank you to XxSilver LeaxX for reviewing, and about that, please review, it keeps me motivated to think that people actually like what I do. :)
Now, have a Merry Christmas and take care!
