Monday morning rolled around, and a new school week commenced as soon as the first bell rang.
Richie was sitting in History class, trying his best not to get caught arguing with his conscience.
So, you're telling me you and Eddie are…done?
'Who knows what the future holds, but for now, Eddie is my friend – through and through.'
Damn, and I was liking the idea of you two.
Richie slowly nodded, both in agreeance with his teacher's point and his conscience's.
'Again, who knows what the future holds; maybe we become secret boyfriends or something, but as far as I know, he'll probably find a cute girl.'
And you?
'When the time comes, I'll find my man.'
The end of school rang through the building, and Richie felt exhausted.
'Thank goodness today is over…now to trudge on home and start the list of homework…'
"Hey, Richie!"
The teen turned to see Eddie sprinting towards him.
"I got something to show you."
Eddie fished around his book bag and pulled out a copy of the New York Times.
"Read this, and tell me your thoughts."
As Eddie finished turning to the eighth page of section A, he pointed to the top right of the paper, with a title that gave Richie chills.
Rights for Gay Couples in Denmark
Richie skimmed through the article and was flushed with adrenaline.
"So…you're telling me that there's a small glimmer of a chance of something like this happening here?"
"I…I don't know," Eddie said, scuffling his feet, "but if it can happen there, it could happen here."
"I can have the wedding of my dreams!"
"Who, chill. Let's get through school first."
Richie laughed, "Oh, Eddie; you're such a good friend."
Eddie smiled and gave his friend a hug, "Anytime."
It was odd to Richie, as though the events that transpired throughout the weekend didn't really matter anymore.
He knew who he was, and for the time being, all was right.
Okay, there you have it! I hope you all enjoyed reading this fic as much as I did writing it. May everyone have a blessed Christmas holiday, and a great 2021; until next time, this is Pantastic signing off! :)
