A/N: Happy Holidays! I hope that you all enjoyed some Jaggie fluff during this crazy time. Thank you for reading and hope you all enjoy the day. Remember to be safe.
Jackson was grateful that Maggie had fallen asleep so quickly. He was planning to get on the highway and drive around for a little while until she fell asleep. Their destination was actually close by and he was running a big risk of her figuring it out.
Jackson settled in for the thirty minute ride. He and Maggie had recently talked about purchasing a home since they were actively trying to get pregnant. They had started seeing properties and there was one that had stolen Maggie's words. She had said that it met dream home standards. It was luxurious, but not ostentatious. It was big enough for a growing family, but it wasn't too big for just her, Jackson and Harriet.
One thing Jackson knew was that the way to Maggie's heart had nothing to do with a price tag. Sentimental things meant the most to her. Maggie wasn't concerned with what he could do for her and that only made him want to spoil her more. So, he had moved heaven and earth to purchase the newly built, but never lived in home for his bride.
Like he had told Ben, he was sure that Maggie would fuss about him making such a big decision without consulting her, but he knew that she would ultimately see the sentiment behind it.
When Jackson pulled up to the house he saw the decorations and smiled. Pulling this off hadn't been easy. He had to enlist the help of his mother and from what he could see of the outside at night it was more than worth it.
Jackson turned off the car and leaned over in his seat kissing Maggie on her lips. He rubbed her cheek softly and whispered, "Maggie. Babe, wake up for me."
Maggie didn't open her eyes she just stretched and mumbled, "Jackson, I just fell asleep. You said I could sleep."
Jackson gave her a soft smile that she couldn't see because her eyes were still closed. He said, "Maggie, we're here. Wake up."
This time she did open her eyes, but she didn't take in her surroundings, she focused on him. She said, "How far did we go, because I know I wasn't asleep for that long."
Jackson just smiled at her. Maggie said, "Don't look at me like that."
Maggie turned to look at their snoozing baby in the backseat. Since Maggie hadn't yet taken in her surroundings Jackson said, "Babe, close your eyes for me. I'm going to wake Harriet up and then I'll come around to your side to get you. Don't argue, babe. Just humor me."
Maggie's eyes flashed in mock anger. She said, "Fine," and closed her eyes.
Jackson quickly exited the car and open the back door. He unstrapped Harriet from her booster seat and then proceeded to wake her up. Maggie whined, "Jackson, hurry up. It's getting cold."
Once Harriet was awake he pulled the little girl into his arms and walked around to the passenger's side of the vehicle and grabbed Maggie's hand. He said, "Babe, step out for me. I've got you."
Once he had Maggie out of the car and the door was closed he led her to stand in front of the vehicle. He released her hand and said, "Go ahead and open your eyes."
Maggie opened her eyes and looked at the marvelous structure in front of her. She then looked back at Jackson with confusion in her eyes. She asked, "You rented my dream house for us to spend Christmas? Oh my gosh Jackson. How sweet is this."
Maggie took a tentative step, she looked back asking, "Can we go in?"
Jackson just smiled and nodded. Jackson walked behind her as she slowly, yet gleefully walked up the driveway and up the front stairs. When they got to the door Maggie stepped to the side. Jackson shifted a still sleepy Harriet in his arms and handed Maggie a set of keys tied with a festive bow. Maggie looked down at the keys and smiled. She said. "You went all out didn't you?"
Chuckling Jackson said, "You have no idea."
Maggie put the key in the lock and opened the door. Before she could step across the threshold she heard cheers of surprise. Her eyes widened as she took in her father, her sisters, nieces and nephews and Richard and Catherine.
Maggie also briefly took in the room that was not only decorated festively but furnished in furniture that she loved and would've picked herself. As a matter of fact, some of the furniture was furniture that she had mentioned to Jackson in passing.
She immediately turned to her husband asking, "Jackson, what's going on?"
He smiled that charming grin again and said, "Marry Christmas babe. I didn't rent the house for the holiday; I purchased the house as your gift. Before you get mad, you should've never said the words dream house. You know I try to make all of your dreams come true."
Maggie's eyes flashed in amusement at his words. She said, "You don't gift homes for Christmas, Jackson."
Harriet who had fully awakened when she saw her cousins asked, "Where's my room?"
Everyone chuckled at her as Jackson placed her on her feet. Maggie made her way over to Meredith. She said, "You were in on this. You planted camping seeds knowing full well what he had planned. And you went along with it."
Amelia shrugged as Meredith asked, "So, what are you going to do about it?"
Maggie then went to hug her dad. She said, "You didn't tell me you were coming."
Bill held his daughter close and said, "That's the point of a surprise Maggie."
Next she found herself in Catherine's arms. She said, "Thanks for watching Harriet earlier and thank you for all of this. I know that Jackson had a hand in it, but I'm pretty sure you were in charge of getting it all together."
Catherine laughed. She then took Maggie's face in her hands asking, "How far along are you?"
Maggie looked around to find where Jackson was. He was across the foyer speaking with her father. She smiled nervously at Catherine, "Shh. Jackson doesn't know yet, actually no one does."
Catherine said, "Oh, Maggie."
Maggie held onto her mother in laws hands and squeezed. She said, "Catherine, please. I don't want to ruin the surprise for him."
The older woman smiled and patted Maggie's cheek.
Jackson gave everyone a tour of the house and Maggie found out that her family was spending the weekend in the new home with them. Jackson said, "Some of our colleagues are coming over tomorrow for a Christmas eve brunch/holiday party."
Jackson knew that Maggie was tired, so he told everyone to make themselves at home, although he knew that they already had.
They left Harriet with Meredith and her cousins and Maggie took a shower while Jackson made sure everyone was settled and brought their bags in.
Maggie was fresh out of the shower and was standing in the bathroom mirror moisturizing her face when Jackson came in. He sat on the counter next to where she stood. He admired her in her towel before saying, "So, what do you think? I know you're mad that I made such a huge decision and such a big purchase without speaking with you, but Maggie I wanted to do this for you. Please don't fight me on it."
Maggie leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. She said, "Do I like the fact that you bought and entire house without discussing it with me? No, because we are supposed to weigh and measure decisions like this together, but I'm starting to understand that spontaneity can be fun especially when your partners needs, and desires are obviously considered which in this case they were because I did tell you this was my dream house. I'm also learning that life's surprises are what makes life worth living. Things sometimes come out better than you plan. So, thank you Jackson. I will fuss after the holidays. Plus, it'll be easier to move now than after we get pregnant and/or give birth."
Jackson said, "I can't wait until you're pregnant and we start decorating the baby's room. When we start arguing because I want you to remember you're pregnant and you want me to know you're not an invalid because you're pregnant."
Maggie smiles sweetly at him. She says, "See, you already know this so we can skip those fights, right?"
Jackson laughs at her. He says, "I thought you were a genius. You don't actually believe that do you."
They both broke into laughter together. Maggie sobered first saying, "If we have a son you're going to want him to have every single pair of shoes that you have. Don't deny it because Harriet is a girl with an extensive shoe collection, and I know that didn't come from her mother."
Jackson said, "I wasn't going to deny it. My son's shoe game is going to be amazing. I'm kind of getting excited. We should go work on a baby now."
Maggie smiled slyly and asked, "Do you have a preference? Girl or boy?"
Jackson sobered, "People often say that they don't care as long as they have a healthy baby, but you don't really realize how true that is until you go through not having a healthy child. I just want a healthy baby that's you and the good parts of me."
Maggie fought back tears saying, "Yes the best parts of you and the best parts of me."
Jackson shook his head. He said, "Nope, you're perfect. So, a baby that's part you and the best parts of me."
Jackson asked, "Do you have a preference?"
Shaking her head, she answered, "I do not. I'm just glad that I get to experience this with you. We're not waiting to find out the sex, though."
Jackson laughed, "Oh, I expect nothing less from you. I can't wait. I finally get to enjoy a pregnancy."
Maggie looked into her husband's eyes and knew that any fears she ever had about her and Jackson were all for naught. She stretched saying, "I'm going to bed. Get ready, I'll wait for you."
As she walked out of the bathroom she heard Jackson start the shower. She tip toed out of their bedroom and went downstairs in search of the gifts that they had packed up to take on their trip. Surprisingly it seemed like everyone had retired to bed already.
She located the gifts sitting near the tree. She grabbed the box that she had specially wrapped for Jackson and tip toed back upstairs. She placed the box on the nightstand and then crawled into bed.
Their new bed was so comfortable and as tired as she was, she was sure she'd be asleep if Jackson didn't hurry up.
About ten minutes later Jackson slid into bed next to her. He reached for her pulling her close. He kissed her and she said, "Do you remember last month you kept bugging me to take off for my birthday, but I couldn't because I was swamped with paperwork at work?"
Jackson yawned, "Yes and I had to take you away earlier in the month to accommodate your schedule."
She smiled because he sounded annoyed, but she knew that he didn't really mind accommodating her. She said, "Right. You gave me a gift that weekend, and I want to share it with you."
She turned to grab the giftbox from the night stand. He sat up and frowned. He said, "My gift to you wasn't shareable and it wasn't this big."
She sat the box in his lap and said, "Open it."
Jackson slowly undid the ribbon and lifted the lid on the box. Inside was a beautiful brass picture frame with a sonogram inside. Upon further inspection Jackson could see it was Maggie's sonogram. In the bottom right hand of the glass was an inscription that read: Baby Avery Coming in August.
Jackson sat in stunned silence for a moment. Tears welled in his eyes and he continued to stare in shock. He felt Maggie move closer to him and rest her head on his shoulder, but he was paralyzed.
His entire relationship with Maggie flashed before him. He remembered almost losing her, but he hadn't and now they were here. They were married and expecting a baby. Jackson cleared his throat. He said, "So, it's not in the future? We're pregnant right now? We just started trying."
Maggie giggled at his shock. She said, "Overachiever here."
He set the box aside and pulled her into his arms. He started placing kisses on her face. He said, "Baby, thank you. Words can't express how excited I am!"
Maggie's gasp was caught when Jackson crashed his lips into hers. He had it all. His mother was doing well despite her illness, she had a husband that loved her, he had a beautiful daughter, and he had the girl of his dreams and she was having his baby. Jackson was starting to believe that wishes really did come true, especially during the holidays.
Maggie's thoughts were similar. She was completely happy. The only thing that could make things perfect were if her mother was here to experience this with her. She had a man who loved and accepted her quirks and all. Harriet was an extra special bonus. Add to that her sisters and their children, her dad, Richard and Catherine. She was surrounded by love and looked for to spending more holiday's with everyone in the future.
