Chapter 37 – Garden Gnomes

Molly looked again to the family clock. She was worried. Ginny's golden hand was persistently pointing to "home" and for some reason that worried her more than if it had been pointing to "mortal peril".

'What's going on, mum?' Bill, who had arrived from a trip in that afternoon, asked. 'You're pacing around the house restless for hours.'

'It's Ginny. It's getting darker and she hasn't come back yet.' She tried not to show her anxiety. 'And that clock is broken! It keeps telling me Ginny's home, which only gets me more nervous.'

'Do you want help making dinner?' He tried to distract her.

'There's no need. It's mostly made…'

A knock on the front door left her alerted.

'At last you come back!' She said loudly. 'I was dying of worry.'

Molly lost her voice, when she opened the door and realised only Sirius was there.

'Where are the children?'

Sirius looked very disconcerted with the question. 'Hmm… Molly, can we talk?' He said in a tight voice. 'Something happened today…'

'WHAT HAPPENED THIS TIME?' She didn't even notice she was shouting.

'Nothing bad…' Then he added to himself, 'depending of the point of view.'

'WHAT HAPPENED?'

'The children are perfectly sound and safe…'

'SIRIUS BLACK, WHAT HAPPENED?'

Bill decided to intervene, predicting a great uproar. 'Mum, easy. Why don't you let Sirius come inside so we can talk…? Please, come in, Sirius.'

Glancing over his shoulder, Bill noticed Ron and the twins trying to peek from the stairs. 'You there! Call dad, now.' He ordered.

A few minutes later, Bill, Molly, Arthur and Sirius were settled in the kitchen table. Ron and the twins hovered around trying to discover what had happened.

'So, what happened?' Molly asked bluntly despite being more composed.

'Well, today we visited Godric's Hollow, Harry wanted to see his grandparents' house…'

'Yes, we already knew that.'

'The thing is, the house is not simply a house. It's a very ancient castle, to tell the truth… I reckon it is as old as Hogwarts and as magical or even more.'

Bill was listening with interest. 'I understand some people can get great protection spells in a property, but I can't believe there is a property in Great Britain that's comparable to Hogwarts.'

'Did you know Harry is a descendent from Godric Gryffindor?'

Bill raised an eyebrow, while Ron and the twins' eyes were widened.

'Most people think is just speculation, but it's true. James was proud as hell of it and, honestly, after today…'

'What happened today?' Molly insisted.

'When those two stepped their feet inside the property their magic reacted somehow to the castle's magic. It was like the place had strengthened them in a wat… I never… They're much different now… It's worse than when they bonded.'

Sirius still didn't comprehend what had happened, that's why it was so difficult to explain.

'What do you mean? Are they alright?' Arthur asked worriedly.

'Yes, they're fine. They're doing extremely well, they're just a bit… odd.'

'Odder than the usual?' Fred asked half amused, half alarmed.

Ron's eyes were still wide, but he silently agreed with his brother.

'Odd how?' Bill asked.

'They seemed having… how should I say… remembered their past, I guess.'

'What past?' Ron inquired without understanding. 'They've known each other for only a year.'

'I meant to say past lives… A specific past life. They remembered the last time they lived in that castle, they also say they built it.'

'Harry and Ginny built a castle?' George asked.

'A magical castle like Hogwarts?' Fred added.

'But they're only eleven!' Ron wasn't resigned.

'Let me see if I've got it straight.' Bill cut his brothers' chatter. 'Harry and Ginny alleged they've remembered a past life where they lived in the Potter Castle?'

'It's called The Lake Castle, actually. But it's exactly that, Bill.'

'What difference does that make?' Molly asked. 'Why didn't they come telling us themselves? I mean, everything became confusing since this soul-bond, but we comprehend it.'

'They don't want to live the castle… In particular, Ginny doesn't intend to leave any time soon and Harry will do anything she asks for.'

Molly squeezed her eyes. 'What do you mean she doesn't want to leave? Doesn't she want to come home?'

'I'm afraid she doesn't… She was the one who asked me to come here and to invite you for a visit tomorrow. She wants to be the one to explain.'

'What's that girl's problem? I know our home is not a palace, but it is HER home!'

Sirius took a deep breath and said, 'To be honest, when she asked me to invite you she said "I won't leave my home". And she meant it, I think there's something about the garden.'

'WE HAVE A GARDEN!' Molly yelled.

'No, we don't, mum. We just have garden gnomes. It's different!' Fred quipped, even though he knew he was risking.

'Molly, you aren't getting it… They've changed.' Sirius tried to explain.

'In what way did they change?' Bill asked.

'They've been maturing very quickly since the end of June… You must have noticed that! Only now they act as true adults… To be honest, I reckon they would make Dumbledore seem like a rebel teen such is their maturity… It's scary.'

'They are just children.' Arthur said, looking depressed.

'I know… but they aren't normal children.'

'It doesn't matter.' She spoke decidedly. 'I'm going there right now and I'll bring my daughter home.'

'You can't.' Sirius told her. 'She only allowed the visit for tomorrow. If I understood correctly, the castle obeys to their will. Magic can be so supernatural and powerful… Trust me, you wouldn't see the lake even if you were drowning in the damn lake.'

'Is the castle near a lake?' Ron asked curiously.

'The castle is in the lake.' Sirius corrected.

'That's impossible.' Bill remarked.

'Harry and Ginny love to challenge the impossible!'
